HELP! Adding video effects

Alright, so I am new to Macs, I just got my first for Christmas. It's the newest model Macbook. I'm using iMovie 08, and for some reason I just can't figure out how to add effects. I've watched the tutorial video numerous times, and it says "it's so easy, just double click on the video" blah blah blah. In the tutorial video it shows a box pop up and there you can select "add effect" or something of the sort. Now, when I double click my videos in the project area, it just plays the video starting where I double clicked. I thought I was following the tutorial to a T, but I suppose I'm wrong. Please help!!

The effects are in iMovie 09, which has not been released yet. It will be released in stores in a week or two.

  • Help with adding video effects.

    Okay, so I am very new with Adobe Premiere Pro CS3, and decided to start working with video effects.
    So far I can add an effect onto a video clip that I dragged down from the source monitor, but that applies the effect to the whole video track. I want it to start and end at a certain point.
    I have read the Adobe Help Viewer on effects many times over and over, but still, I cannot get it to work.
    I have set in and out put points in my Timeline, and went into the effects controls and peaked around, but have had no success at all with getting my effect to start and end at a certain point.
    Can anyone help me out a little bit? I'm sure you are all Pro's at this, haha.

    You will also find links to many
    free tutorials in the PremiereProPedia that will quickly show you how things are done in Premiere Pro.
    Cheers

  • Need help adding video to a site

    Hi Everyone:
    I really need some help please. The owner of a site I am
    working on sent me a DVD with video's he has taken and wants them
    put on his site.
    The files are VIDEO_TS and are MPEG files. How can I add the
    video's to the site so that when I user clicks on the link, they
    are able to either view the site or download the video to watch
    later. I have other video's added to the site but I was able to
    copy them and safe them the way there were added. The owner sells
    products from the site I copied them from.
    The site I am working on is www.buggyworld.net. Most of the
    individual pages for the vehilces have videos on them and I am
    trying to add these new ones the same way. I have never done this
    before so really not sure how to. The videos that are already added
    at Windows Media Audio/Video Files and that is how I would like to
    convert this video to.
    Any help would be so greatly appreciated.. thank you
    Linda

    Best bet would be to make Flash video so that everyone who
    wants to (and has
    the Flash Player plugin) can see them. Do you have Flash?

  • Help adding video to composition

    I have the following in a trigger on the timeline so that a video will start at a spcific point in time. For some reason I just can't get the video to play.
    var vid = sym.$("video");
    vid.html('<video width="480" height="270" src="video/convert.mp4" type="video/mp4" controls="controls"  autoplay="autoplay" </video>');
    Any help would be greatly appriciated.

    If you want the video to preload, you can separate the code out so that first, you set the video up in order to get then preload going. Then on click, actually play the video.
    Code on stage.compositionReady:
    // (take code out of the function so it runs right away- note I added an id prop)
    var vid = sym.$("video");
    vid.html("<video width='512' height='322' preload='auto' id='myVideo' >" +
    "<source src='video/convert.mp4' type='video/mp4' />" +
    "<source src='video/convert.webm' type='video/webm' />" +
    "<source src='video/convert.ogg' type='video/ogg' />" +
    "</video>");
    sym.playVideo = function()
         sym.$('#myVideo').get(0).play();
    Code on your trigger:
    sym.getComposition().getStage().playVideo();

  • Help with Video Effect (Aspect Ratio)

    I have a 4:3 Video, but I don't want to stetch it to fit 16:9 widescreen;
    How do I achieve this effect?
    Sorry I'm a bit new to Premier Pro but would like if someone could point me in the right direction.

    Welcome to the Forum.
    Create a 16:9 sequence.  Stack duplicate copies of your 4:3 clip on tracks 1 and 2.  Use the Motion>Scale effect to enlarge the copy in track 1 to fill the frame and then give it a 30% to 50% Gaussian blur.

  • Help with Video Effect: 'Impuls' Zoom

    Hey,
    Im currently working on a Project and I have this one Effect that I would really like to put in the cideo, but im not sure how to do it. The Problem is that I also dont really know how you call this effect, this makes the search for an answer pretty hard. I will try to explain you my wanted effect the best I can:
    What I want to do it to have a Impuls like Zoom in and then Zoom out again. I want to you put it equal to the bass in the song so its really just suppose to do a quick zoom in and zoom out when the big bass comes. Im pretty sure that this is probably really easily done, but Im actually fairly new to premiere Pro Cs4 so I would really apriciate it if someone could gove me a quick but hopefully problem solving answer.
    If you have any questions on how i mean this effect or some other imformation just ask .
    Thanks a lot.

    Keyframe the scale propertie under Motion in the Effect Controls Panel.

  • Need help adding video to Imovie 4.0

    I recently paid a company to convert a VHS tape of home movies to a DVD. I find that I can easily make copies of the DVD, but can't seem to bring it into IMovie. Is it possible to use portions of the DVD, or do I need special software or do I have to convert these files somehow? The files on the DVD have: .IFO, .VOB, and .BUP extensions, if that means anything.

    * DVDxDV (free trial, 25$, Pro: 90$)
    * Apple mpeg2 plugin (20$) + Streamclip (free)
    * Cinematize >60$
    * Mpeg2Works >25$ + Apple plug-in
    * Toast6/7 allows converting to dv/insert dvd, hit apple-k
    * connect a miniDV Camcorder with analogue input to a DVD-player and transfer disk to tape/use as converter

  • Video Effects Problems

    When I go through my video effects and preview them I get white lines, white fragments (blocky), and or the whole screen turns white. When I click on the first effect it works fine and I can adjust the settings but when I go to the next one, thats when video turns bad. I have to click out of video effects to reset the image. This problem just started for me. Does anyone have any ideas on how to fix this problem.
    Also, I recently installed FCE 4. Would this have anything to do with it. Since installing FCE 4 my rendering time has slowed way down in iMovie 06.
    Thanks.

    T -
    I get a similar problem when I preview effects. I just assumed this was some kind of result of max-ing out on processing the preview, so I usually just click onto some other effect outside of the Quartz composer and then click back in and it's fine. I wouldn't worry about it, unless what I suggest won't work. I found this when I was looking to find out why adding video effects takes so long to process. It looks like video is just processor-intensive, any way you look at it.
    good luck.....

  • Keyframing video effects??? Please help

    hello, I am trying to keyframe a video effect, "line art" in particular off...eg have line art keyframe to the original clip. Within the filters tab of the viewer I only have options to keyframe specific parameters of this effect however there are no combinations of these parameters that will allow me to keyframe back to the origianal video.
    The only way that i can do something similar is to stack the same clip on 2 tracks and keyframe opacity.
    Is there an easier way??
    Thanks for your help

    I'm not having trouble with dissolve keyframing. Im using 9 individual frames to make a grid with transitions throghout. < </div>
    That's a completely different situation than the one you posted originally.
    Nest the nine frames. Apply individual keyframes as you call them for other effects to the separate layers in the upstream sequence. Apply your dissolve or keyframe off as you say to the nested sequence in the downstream version.

  • Adding Video FX effect crashes application

    iMovie 6.0.3
    I'm working on a movie. kind of learning as I go along. Currently its 12 + minutes long. I have pics, music and sound effects. The project is saved.
    I want to add to one pic the video effect "electricity". The pics play length is 12:18 seconds.
    Every time I apply - the update bar progresses and then bombs out the app.
    Can you offer any help?
    Thanks

    Hey Sue Thanks for responding - I have 64 gigs free.
    The post b4 yours asked about what version of movie I'm running. It's at the top of the post which I think is the latest - greatest - I went and tried to update - and it stated I'm running the most current 6.0.3
    I tried it again today - now the affect works for 7 seconds out of the 12 and then a black screen for the balance of time.

  • Adding more than one video effect

    I have a short clip that I want to give both the "aged film" look to as well as make it black and white.
    Both these effects are available under Window > Clip Adjustments, but I can't figure out if it's possible to use both at the same time. Anyone know? Thanks.

    In general, no, you cannot do two video effects at the same time.
    However, black and white is a special case, because you can achieve this using Video Adjustments.
    You can select Aged Film and then adjust to Black and White in Video Adjustments.
    Try setting the Saturation slider all the way to the left (0%)
    Then, move the Contrast slider to the right until it is around 50%.

  • Noise in video highlights when video effect added.

    I am getting black noise in the highlight areas of my video whenever I add a video effect.  Even before I make any changes to the settings of the effect, black spots appear in the white (highlight) areas of the video.  Toggling the effect on/off from the effect control window makes the spots appear/disappear.
    Any suggestions as to why this is happening and how to eliminate the problem?
    I am using Premiere Pro in CS6 on an iMac computer.
    Thanks!

  • Video effects for a horror/thriller trailer

    I'm working on recutting a trailer as a different genre and I was wondering how to do a couple of effects.  How do you do the white flash on the screen(not a dip to white transition but in the middle of the clip) and the flash that shows a negative of the original image like you see in some horror/thriller trailers?

    Hi owiseone,
    Here's how I would construct the effect.
    Create the "negative image" effect.
    Apply the Invert effect: Video Effects > Channel > Invert
    Try different Channel Options. I chose "Lightness."
    Desaturate the colors on the negative image.
    Apply a Fast Color Corrector
    Take Saturation down to 0.
    Adjust the Input Levels slider to taste
    Make the effect flash on and off with the original clip by using the Strobe effect, or by manually adding the effect to Add Edits.
    First, do the following
    Copy paste the clip to V2.
    Remove effects from the clip on V1.
    Do either of the following to the clip on V2:
    Apply the Strobe Light effect: Video Effects > Stylize > Strobe Light and adjust parameters to taste.
    With the Razor tool or the Add Edit keyboard shortcut, create splices that are several frames long, create them either the same length, or random durations. Delete portions of the clip between the add edits.
    Play back the effect and adjust parameters until you're happy with the effect.
    Set up a range to play In to Out
    Enable Loop Playback
    Adjust parameters in any of the effects as they play In to Out.
    Hope that helps!

  • Applying video effects in Premiere at the track or media level?

    Hello,
       I am trying to adjust to the Premiere workflow, coming from Vegas, and have a question regarding the application of video effects. Premiere seems to apply effects at the clip level - for example, if there is a cut in the clip, the effect is only applied to a portion of the clip. Vegas allows for the application of effects at the media level - no matter how many cuts have been made - or at the track level. Is there something comparable in Premiere? I have been trying to apply the Neat Video effect, and the only thing I can think of is to select multiple clips when applying it, but it seems to crash Premiere when I do that. Any advice on making this work would be much appreciated.
       On a related topic, does Premiere apply effects in a chain, as they are added, or does it automatically perform an reffect first if it should be applied first? In other words, does it matter in what order the effects are applied, and if so, is there a rough order of how they should be applied?

    I'm running Premiere Pro 5.5 and have been able to lasso and apply my effects to several of my clips all at once.
    Once you apply the effect and fine-tune (if need be), you can right-click and create a User Preset to help save time (say if all of your clips needed to be color corrected). The User Presets are the first folder listed in the Effects bin.
    As far as the effects order are concerned, you pretty much have to play around with those yourself. I use a Video Limiter effect with a ProcAmp and have noticed that if they aren't in a certain order (the first listed effect is the first applied...) it changes how it looks and not always for the best. Best bet is to play around and see what order of video effects works best for you.
    Good Luck!
