HELP! adobe reader XI (11.0.09)  hangs on installation (running scripts package)

adobe reader XI (11.0.09) hangs on installation (running scripts package). I cannot shut my computer down, because the installer won't let it and says "interrupting the install will damage the computer) I just wanted to update from 11.0.07 but it said contents had been changed so I had to reinstall adobe reader. So I am trying but it has been hours.

Hi andrea02,
Are you still facing this issue?
You may try uninstall previous installation copy using Adobe Acrobat/Reader cleaner tool::  http://labs.adobe.com/downloads/acrobatcleaner.html

    Hi Pat,
Here is the solution worked but not sure we can implement this or not.
    Installed Adobe AIR
    Installed Adobe Help Manager
    - Downloaded offline PDF
Changed Adobe Reader EXE AcroRd32.exe compatibility settings to Windows XP SP3
Launched Adobe Reader > Prompts "protected mode" windows to disable> Disabled Protected mode>Help working fine now
Would you mind tell me the importance of Protected mode in New version of Adobe reader.

I can't install adobe reader on PC/windows 7, Message: windows installer doesn't permit updating managed adversed products. at least one feature of the product must be installed before applying the update.

I have no idea what that message means; try uninstalling using http://labs.adobe.com/downloads/acrobatcleaner.html then download and reinstall the latest Reader from http://get.adobe.com/reader/enterprise/

  • Adobe Reader 8.1.2 (linux) hang at startup

We have a number of users who have reported hangs when trying to start Adobe Reader on our CentOS 4.5 linux workstations (CentOS 4.5 is a RedHat Enterprise Linux 4.5 rebuild). When this occurs, the X-server is locked for a minimum of 10 seconds, sometimes longer, until the Reader window finally comes up.
I was able to duplicate this behavior on my desktop workstation; of course, once I tried to run the program through strace I no longer saw this behavior.
Have any other users here seen this behavior? Any idea what is causing it, or is there a workaround to mitigate the problem?
    John Perkins

I was finally able to get an strace of a delayed acroread startup with the Xming xserver (displaying on Windows). I can't use XManager or Exceed (or similar products) when trying to display on a linux desktop.
The strace output I've collected suggests Adobe Reader is trying to
stat() all the font files available at startup time. We run with an AFS filesystem here, and some fonts are in AFS...so those fonts get cached on local disk when Adobe Reader first runs, and stat()'ing the font files goes much faster the next time around.
It may be necessary for us to move these font files to the local disk at some point to improve performance with Adobe Reader, and maybe with other apps.
Some detail as to how fonts are found could be helpful...does Reader try to generate a list of paths from the X-server somehow? Or does it find font paths some other way?

  • Adobe Reader 11.0.03.37 hangs and freezes opening PDF documents

When opening PDF documents with Adobe Reader 11.0.03.37, it hangs and freezes for a few minutes.  Is anyone else experiencing this and is there a fix or work around?
We have Windows 7 Professional 64-bit operating systems.  It takes a moment for the Adobe Reader to unfreeze itself but will eventually.
    Thanks!

Found a fix for my problem.  It wasn't the Protected Mode issue after all.  The fix is to disable In Product Messaging.
Here is the fix for the problem.  Now maybe Adobe can address this issue in the future release or patch/update.
Try it on yours and see if it doesn't fix it also.
The following below link provides the information I am about to share with you.
But open Adobe Acrobat Reader without opening a PDF file. So just open Adobe Reader application by itself.
    1. Click on EDIT
    2. Click on PREFERENCES
    3. Click on GENERAL Category
    4. UNCHECK "Show me messages when I launch Reader"
    5. CHECK "Don't show messages while viewing a document"
This should fix your problem as it fixed mine. See the link below for more information. Looks like I will be doing a regedit script for our network users to get rid of this problem. UGGGHHH!!!!!!
    Hope this helps!

  • Adobe Reader XI 11.0.06 hangs

Adobe Reader XI 11.0.06 now hangs, was working fine yesterday.
    What is corrective action?
Also, if I unstall and reinstall Adobe Reader XI 11.0.06, will I lose all of my existing Adobe files on my desk top?
    Vern

    HI Pat,
Sorry, I spoke too quick regarding the issue being solved.  I attempted to open a file and as usual it hangs and I am unable to do anything with it
other than shut down the computer because it does not respond period.  So, I uninstalled the program and attempted to reinstall it to no avail.
After downloading the the program (AdbeRdrUpd 11.001.msp) and tried to open it. The following error message appears:
Windows Installer:  “The upgrade patch cannot be installed by the Windows Installer Service because the program to be upgraded may be missing, or the upgrade path may upgrade a different version of the program.  Verify that the program to be upgraded exists on your computer and that you have the correct upgrade patch.”  Therefore, the program is not installed on the computer.
This is very frustrating and I certainly would appreciate a solution with your help.
    Kindest regards,
    Vern

  • Is it normal for Adobe Reader 10.1.0 to hang?

As of a few minutes ago I noticed that within Task Manger it said that my Adobe reader was running. Although none of the windows I had open contained anything running off Adobe. Even when I closed my browser window completely  (Firefox 6.0) they still remained. It wasn't until I restarted my computer that they no longer displayed. I did find out what caused Adobe to open in the first place, it was a PDF within the Primavera online highschool course player. However, upon closing the window this time Adobe disapeared as it should. Is it normal for Adobe Reader 10.1.0 to sometimes hang even if all browsing history & other private data is immediatly removed upon closing?

That is normal. It stays active in case you open another PDF. If it didn't, you'd end up waiting for the plug-in to start up for every PDF you open.

  • HELP: Adobe Reader Licensing

    Dear Sir or Madam,
Our company is developing a new handset that will be able to display PDF files with Adobe Reader.
    Our question is:
What is the standard procedure that a hardware developer/manufacturer like us should follow to get the license for enabling our handsets to read/display PDF files?
(No need to edit the PDF files; read-only.)
Annual production quantity in plan ranges from 150k to 300k units.
    Appreciate your reply!
    Best regards,
    James

    hello,
I have a problem lately using the comment "sticky note feature". recently everything I receive or create is set to NO security, however I still can't use the comment feature, it isn't available and security keeps coming up as no security, however, the document restriction summary shows:
    Document Security: NO security
Can be opened by: ALL VERSIONS
    Document Assembly: Not Allowed
    Printing: Allowed
    Doc Assembly: Not allowed
    content copying: allowed
    content copying for accessibility: allowed
    page extraction: allowed
    signing: NOT allowed
creation of template pages: NOT allowed
I'm exhausted with trying to fix this as all of my co-works can open it up and comment on the same files and I cannot? PLEASE HELP, I know its something I have set on my computer but am stumped...

  • Adobe Reader for Mac 9.2 hangs up when closing windows

I started having this problem a few weeks ago:  Adobe Reader 9.2 for Mac - with my MacBook (May 2006 - intel core duo) running Leopard 10.5.8 when I have 1 or more Adobe Reader "pdf" documents open and I wish to close one by either cmd-w or by clicking on the red close button top left; most if not all of the time the document goes black and the spinning ball of death appears and then either the program shuts down or I have to do a force quit or just quit.
This never happened before-- I could always have from 1 to 20 pdf files open and just cmd-w the one or ones that I wanted to close and no problem they closed and the program was fine.
Is this something new or ???   A bug or ???
Thanks for any comments.  I did REINSTALL Adobe 9.2 but same problem.  I've done restarts and more.  This is the first time I've used this forum so not sure how I will get notified - do I have to recheck here or will I get a notice to my eMail address??
    Thanks and regards,

If you subscribed you will get a new email for every post here. Otherwise you have to manually check. What you are seeing is not typical. I'd try the typical troubleshooting techniques.
    1) Fixing Permissions.
    2) Emptying various system caches.
I'd recommend you get a copy of Applejack. It can do all that and find disk directory issues. Cost is reasonable---free.

  • Help, Adobe reader is preventing my computer from shuting down!

Every time I am trying to shut down my computer, there is a message that Adobe Reader is stil running and preventing it from shutting down, even though i have not opened Adobe! any suggestions??
    Thanx

UnInstall Adobe Reader and then check whether your system shuts down properly?
In case system shuts down properly, then yes adobe might be causing issue.
Windows Application work by re-installing many times, re-install Adobe Reader, not guarentee, but it might work and next time onwards your system may shutdown properly.

ADOBE READER WOULD NOT INSTALL. STATES "ACCESS DENIED"

    Hi dharamsishah,
Are you still facing this issue?
The computer you trying to get Reader installed on it. Is it your own computer or work computer?
It seems you might not have permission to install application.
You may try to create a new user profile with admin rights and then try installing again.

  • Error 1935 - Adobe Reader (11) - An error occurred during the installation of assembly component - Windows 7

    NOT RESOLVED
It seems to be a problem with my windows installation. I will re-install at a later date since installing PDF viewing programs the only issue.
    Problem:
While installing Adobe Reader XI using the install_reader11_en_mssd_aaa_aih.exe from Adobe Reader Install for all versions and AdbeRdr11000_en_US.msi from a forum post on here. Error 1935 occurs using both installers and causes the setup to fail and initiate rollback.
    Additional information:
In Programs & Features list there is no adobe reader as you can see:
This is pretty much a clean install of windows on which I have installed: Adobe Flash Player (16), Steam + some games, Chrome, Skype and some Visual C++ Redistributables, .NET Framwork, Drivers for GPU, CPU, Motherboard and USB devices.
    Error:
Error 1935. An error occurred during the installation of assembly component
    {B708EB72-AA82-3EB7-8BB0-D845BA35C93D}.
    HRESULT: 0x80070308
    System:
    Windows 7 x64 - installed on a SSD.
    Motherboard: ASRock Z97 Extreme 4
    GPU: Gigabtye - G1 Gaming GTX 970
    CPU: Intel Core - i7 4770K @4.00 GHz
    RAM: 16GB Kingston Hyper X (8x2)
    Steps taken:
    1. I have cleared the transaction log using command prompt with the following command:
        fsutil resource setautoreset true C:\
Restarting the computer and trying to install Adobe Reader 11 results in the same error.
    2. Restarting the computer, disabling Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and installing Adobe Reader 11 results in the same error.
    3. Chrome has "allow all sites to run JavaScript" checked.
    Thanks
    Edit:
I have attempted to install an earlier version (10.1.4) of Adobe Reader - Same error occurs.
    Edit 2:
I'm going to look for some alternatives for the mean time
    Edit 2.1:
These alternative programs are failing to install as well. Multiple errors, I now assume the issue is with my windows installation.
