Help! Adobe X Screen goes black.
I have Windows XP.
I use Mozilla Firefox.
This problem started about a week ago.
If I'm on a website that has a pdf link, I can't open it. I click the link, the screen goes black, a narrow blue horizontal bar loads, but the rest of the screen remains black. I uninstalled & reinstalled Adobe Reader X today, & I was able to open a pdf once from a website. I tried a while later, & I got the black screen gain, plus a notice that said there was a problem with Adobe - please try again. So I did, & I got the black screen again. I cannot right click or do anything except close the tab.
I began having minor problems when I updated to Adobe X - I'd get a notice that an Adobe plug-in had crashed - but usually didn't affect what I was doing, unless I needed sound.
I tried downloading by using the "offline installer" as suggested on another thread;
http://ardownload.adobe.com/pub/adobe/reader/win/9.x/9.3/enu/AdbeRdr93 0_en_US.exe
but it would not not dowload - it said I had an updated version.
About the same time this latest problem began, if I happened to close all tabs in Firefox, I could not get back to the web - it says that firefox is runnint; I have to close it down & try again. I don't know how to close firefox (or if I did, it didn't work), so I have to reboot.
Opening a pdf link used to be simple - click & the pdf opened. I don't like the idea of downloading a link to my computer every time I want to just read something.
Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance.

I just went through the entire log of "Adobe Reader X - Firefox Integration Problem." Our problems are different but seem to be caused by the same issue of Firefox/Adobe X. I also had the shockwave crashes. II would try reinstalling Reader 9.4.1, but I can't find it.
Remove your case and see how it works. It may be blocking the proximity sensors that turn the screen off/on during a call.

1616 screen goes black - Help please
I have just bought a new Nokia 1616. I have worked through all the settings but cannot find the one to stop it turning the screen off after a few minutes of non-use. The screen goes black and so you don't know if it is switched on or not. Ideally I would like it to show the clock like my previous model 1600 did. Help please.
If you press on the red phone button the time will display on the screen if the phone is on. It will also show you if the phone is locked or not by showing a small key. Press the menu button and the * key as usual to unlock.

Hey Destiny24
Check out the iPhone Hardware troubleshooting guide in the Display section. It has a section for not having any backlight. If you cannot get it resolved, there are some links towards the bottom of the article for further options when it cannot be resolved.

Have a 3 yr old iMac the screen goes black when using it it will come back on when you move the mouse thanks for your help Dave
It's possible you've got a 'hot corner' set up. If you have and move the mouse to a certain corner of the screen it'll do as you describe. Have a look in System Preferences>Mission Control, bottom left of the window click on the 'Hot Corners' button and see if there is anything in there.

HELP! When I shut my MACBOOKPRO then open it my screen goes black.
PLEASE HELP ME!
Ok so when I shut my 13 inch Macbook Pro the screen goes black. I can move the curser and I still hear music being played. When it is shut I can hear videos and music being played aswell. I have never dropped my laptop and it is excellent condition. I am scared I have broken it, what can I do?
Thank you soo muchIt sounds like you have a defective sleep switch. There is a magnet in the lid which comes into close proximity to a sensor on the battery status board cable when you close the lid. This sensor tells the computer to sleep. This is a common problem.
Take it to an Apple Store or repair shop. They can diagnose it for sure.

I came out to a black computer screen. I can see the mouse arrow but otherwise nothing. I disconnected the computer and tried turning it back on. It starts up like usual but bar going across under the apple freezes and the screen goes black. I can hear the computer running. Help!
That's just the iPod's backlight timer going off, signaling the iPod's backlight to turn off to conserve battery power.

Hi Emma,
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
I understand that your Thunderbolt display is just showing a black screen when you boot your computer. The following article should be of help in troubleshooting your display.

Hello mac community, I am new,
I updated a program today everything was working fine yesterday and now today I was updating PLAY a music engine program it seems to have caused the mac to go crazy. I also updated VE PRO 5 another music program. Everything has gone crazy. It turns on but then then the screen goes black after a while 5-10mins. I managed to get the crash report.
Why is the graphics card all of a sudden effected by program updates.

Yesterday upon startup for the first time the screen went black. Had to do a force shutdown. Unplugged all external devices. Reset everything as well. Slowly checked everything was on the phone with Apple even during the process. Seemed to correct the issue. Then of course I get off the phone, restarted my computer and it goes black randomly again.
Rebooted fine. Checked all my hard disks internal and external, verified and repaired permissions on main drive and clone. Since then nothing yet...But I still feel its either the Video Card or the Monitor as everything else is fully operational.
I plan on taking it in to look at as my applecare is up in November but I cant point my finger on it. And really am trying to avoid lugging the mac pro and monitor in at the same time...(Not the easiest thing with lack of parking in nyc..)
If the display was dying I feel like it would have konked out already.
The funny thing is I have had to replace video cards and monitors in the past but this time I cant quite figure out what the **** is going on.
I am leaning towards the video card as I noticed it flickered a little when opening plug in windows in pro tools or multiple windows in sfari but it doesnt make sense.
Worst part is I cant do a hardware test cause for some reason this computer doesnt have the software installed. It does nothing when I hold down the D button...
I totally baffled but the randomness of this. -
I haven't been able to find any answers that solve my problem. My Ipad will not leave the Apple logo. I hold both buttons and the screen goes black and then the Apple logo immediately pops back up. I can't get the red slider screen at all. No matter how many times I hold down both buttons the screen goes black and then the Apple logo pops right back on.
Before you do anything else, try charging via a wall outlet for a while, since its off. Then try turning it back on.
When you put the device into recovery mode it allows you to restore the device when no other options work. You do risk losing everything currently strored on the ipad itself. Hopefully you've performed regular backups either via itunes, icloud or both. Evern if you have synced content to either of those, you may not lose everything. All previous purchases have been saved in the itunes and app stores, so you can dowload them again.
while the ipad is off, press and hold the home button and plug the usb cord into the ipad. You should see a message pop up on the itunes window on your compoter screen that state it has discoverd an ipad in recovery mode.
You should now be able to restore -
Mid 2010 MacBook Pro crash - screen goes black
There is a major problem with the mid 2010 Mac Book Pro's and Lion. I suspect that it is related to the drivers for the NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M 512MB video card and perhaps the i7 processor. The crashes are random and most often occur after a mouse click then the screen suddenly goes black and a restart is forced. There is a thread on MacRumors that describes many others with the same problem: http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=1182104
The crash occurs less frequently when the power and external monitors are connected. When the MBP is unteathered it crashes every 20 minutes. I am really surprised and disappointed that a bug this severe made it through final testing. Looking forward to 10.7.1.
Scottim so glad im not the only one with this problem. at least i know its not because some careless things i unconciously did that makes my mac gone berzerg like this.
i also encounter the exact same problem with all of you. problems started a month ago. at first it was just once in a while then it became a frequent thing especially when my battery left with 20-30%. then after i plugged in the magsafe, its okay. lately, nothing safes the mac from crashing, particularly when im running adobe and/or autocad. i thought it was software problems so i backed up my files, performed erase and install snow leopard then made an even bigger mistake by upgrading to lion. after finish upgrading, the crashings got even more often. every starting up, after i got a glimpse of login in, pufffttt, screen goes black but keyboard still on. googled it up and say reseting smc will do the trick. eeekkkk nothing! then resetting the pram. worked okay for quite some times then puufffttt, crash! ask a question on yahoo answers and got a help from lovely person to install gfsxcard-something and told to opt for integrated only. worked fine for 2 days and still went back to crashing. opened up the mac, testing each rams, reshuffling em, still got nothing. the only thing that enables me to do my work with this Majestic mac is resetting pram everytime i turn it on.
since im living in singapore (bought this mac june'09 in melbourne, australia), there is no genius bar to be found, running a diagnostic only at any apple service cost me 120 bucks and if i have to change the logicboard, its gonna cost me ard 1000++ dollas since i dont have any applecare and my warranty expired 4mnths ago. so, i might be killing myself soon! yauuzaaaa -
The screen goes black, but the system keeps running. I have to hold the power button to shut it down. This usually happens when Im running 2 -3 softwares at a same time. I work on softwares such as photoshop , adobe premier, after effects, and flash extensively. Its been happening since a year now. I have not upgraded my system yet, its still running on 4 gb ram. Please help me with your valuable information. Do I require to format or upgrade my system if yes then please specify.
Hello kbabb29:
Sorry to hear about this but welcome to HP foium. Your computer comes with a one year warranty . So take advantage of it. Contact HP Direct Support on line chat and they will help you with troubling shooting and making adjustments to hibernation mode software. If they are not able to help you then repost. Most likely it was software not installed right. Like my computer was. I was missing some software completely and HP Direct Support gave me the links for the missing software. -
I have a MacBook 13 (model A1181, 2.16 GHz) that I bought from a friend. Everything starts up fine, I get the chime, etc., until it loads the OS. I have a brand new Apple hard drive; brand new Mac OS X Leopard disk; and have tried everything I can think of. I have tried shining a light to see if the screen is just dim--no dice. I have tried completely wiping the drive clean on my iMac and then reinstalling. It gets all the way through the install, then the screen goes black when I'm trying to set my information up. The screen stays up if it's installing the OS, and also if I have the hard drive disconnected on the logic board. As soon as I load the OS, it goes black. The rest of the machine is still running. I have a spare logic board, so I put that in and I get the same problem. What am I missing? Any help would be appreciated. It may be useful to know that I am a computer repair technician (I do component repairs at a motherboard/logic board level). However, I believe all the hardware to be working. I think it may be a firmware issue, but I can't get it to keep a screen long enough to do any software updates. Anyone have any suggestions?
I actually considered that and replaced the inverter, as I couldn't find the cord to external display, but also to no avail. Same thing happened.

Hi everyone.
I have a very strange issue on 2 different PCs.
From time to time the screen goes completly black, and I have to wait about 2-3 seconds for it to restore the picture.
Both have NVIDIA video card, one PC has GF8900GT the second GF7200.
Both PCs running GNOME
In both PCs the screen is connected via DVI port.
One PC has Arch installed for about 4 months the second has a 3 days old installation.
I also have a laptop with Arch (about 4 months) but I didn't expirience any issues there.
I'm not sure what the problem is, but it really annoys me.
I'll be very gratefull if someone points me in the right direction.
Thanks in advance.Hello dhruid,
Thanks for the question. After reviewing your post, it sounds like the screen goes black randomly. I would recommend that you read these articles, they may be helpful in troubleshooting your issue.
