I am waiting for my new MacBook Pro 17 this will have Final Cut Express 4. I need to import from Samsung 500x Hi8 V6-L630 camcorder. I know it will have about 2 hours of recording. What the best way to import from the camcorder into Final Cut 4? should I import the camcorder file onto the desktop with firewire or USB?. There will be about 25 shots of a few minutes of each people. Then it will need to be saved to DVD so that it can be put into a DVD recorder it will have titles so that they can be selected, and I am not sure if this is possible. Sorry this is all new to me but I am looking forward to use Final cut Express 4. If there any web sites that you can point to or please advise me your recommendations.

No it is not all tapeless, but it is all digital. That's why you need to convert analogue to digital. If you get a new video camera be sure it has A/D pass thru so you can convert existing tapes by feeding the output of you Hi8 camera into the input of your new digital camera.

Help / Advise please - new Mac Pro

As a gamer, not a tech expert i would really appreciate some advise on what to do / say to apple support (uk) when i phone them, for the first time, about my faulty Mac Pro - only 4 months old.
The faulty part of my mac is the internet equipment in it, I'm getting high pings when gaming & running speed tests & when running a path ping test getting 13% packet loss at the very start.
What i have done to confirm it's the Mac that's faulty is - test with different ethernet cable, test using the macs wifi, connect my dads computer to cable modem using my ethernet cable & he gets no packet loss & much lower ping than my mac did.
Any help & advise greatly appreciated.

You should know that fairly often, slow performance of Macintosh computers occurs because their owners load them up with non-productive junk that slows down the entire machine. ["Junk" in this context is like stuff in your attic -- it may be perfectly good, but you do not need it right now.]
Downloading more "stuff" is generally not a cure for anything. But do consider running a utility such as etrecheck, which was written by a respected forum member. In a home network environment, you should be using IPv4 as your main interface, and have IPv6 set to Link-local only. Decide which interface (ethernet of Wi-Fi) you intend to be using and turn the others off. (i.e., do not have Ethernet AND Wi-Fi enabled and active at the same time).

"Organize Bookmarks" does not appear under Bookmarks menu, even though Help advises to go there.

I've needed to eliminate Bookmarks. Because I have no "Organize Bookmarks" or "Manage Bookmarks" option under the Bookmarks menu, I've tried dragging bookmarks off the list onto my desktop. I've tried right-clicking to get a "delete" option (but there is none). I've gone to "Help" where I'm advised to click on the Bookmarks menu item, select "Organize Bookmarks," and proceed from there. An image of the items in "Organize Bookmarks" appears in this "Help" instruction. BUT -- "Organize Bookmarks" does not appear when I click the Bookmarks menu item.

That menu item was changed to '''Show All Bookmarks''' in Firefox 4.0.

Adobe CS 2 can support windows 7 or not ? Please help & advise !

I am use windows 7 professional, Processor Core 2 Quad, 4GB RAM. After completed install Adobe CS2, activated from internet but I can't use the Adobe Photoshop CS2 & Adobe Illustrator CS2.
i. When I open the Adobe Photoshop will prompt the message error is “ Your Adobe Photoshop user name, organization, or serial number is missing or invalid. The application cannot continue and must now exit”.
ii. If I open the adobe illustrator will automatic close it.
When I use windows xp professional is no problem.

In addition to what Marian has said, you can be sure Photoshop CS2 has no awareness of Windows 7's UAC (User Account Control) feature, because it's so much older, so when Photoshop is trying to write files into its installation area or protected parts of the registry, it may fail. What I don't know is whether Microsoft's installer subsystem recognizes the Adobe CS2 installer and makes the appropriate decisions (it does this for many apps). You may need to use "Run As Administrator" or lower the UAC protection level on your system to get both the installer and application to work properly.

Seeking Help/Advise for Premiere Pro CS3 editing project

Hello everyone,
I am an Absolute newbe here, and to both forums and Adobe in general, so I may be going about this all wrong. If so forgive me, but I have a problem that I would Desperately like some help with.
For about twenty-five years I have been looking for a movie, the problem was hampered somewhat by the fact that it was never released on either VHS or DVD, making it rather hard to find as you might imagine. Now, thanks to the wonder of a (new?) site called youtube, I found DL it piece by piece. I dont mind that it is not DVD quality, in fact, since it was originally a made for tv film, I kind of like it.
The PROBLEM is that for some reason the audio doesnt match up with the video. It is a few seconds before/after (Dont ask me why, I dont Know computers much) and though I have dl/tried every program I can get my hands on, I cant seem to join the pieces together and get the stuff to sync up. Its like watching an old, old Japanese monster movie and watching Those gave me a headache when I was young lol.
Then someone told me that Adobe Premiere Pro CS3 could fix the problem, so I DL it on a trial basis. Thing is, I know nothing about computers and cant even get the movie to load. Let me say I am not especially computer literate, and while I am currently trying to figure out Adobe Premiere Pro CS3 I most likely Wont be keeping it past the 30-day trial. Not that I dont like it (I suppose, so far I have been able to get absolutely no place with it) but rather because I DL it for one reason and, at almost a thousand dollars, it seems an extravagance for a program I will likely never have the need to use again.

With utmost respect to all, could someone either guide me through the process or convert the thing for me? I have tried going the video editing rout, but they wont help me due to a copyright thing (though I grabbed the thing from public youtube). I dont want to publically display, resell, show off or make a dime from the thing, I just want to make it sync up and burn it to dvd to watch on my tv.
Any advise/help would be warmly appreciated. I am posting this in a couple of forums, so like I said, if I am out of line I apologize.

I have tried putting everything onto a CD and taking it to places, but each time I get told that, even though I found the thing on youtube, it is (Was) a real movie released on TV and as such cannot be touched due to copyright. (goofy, if ya ask me. I don't want to sell the thing, just watch it)

Hello all. Just upgraded to Tiger from 10.2.8 a couple weeks ago. Should have done it long ago... like having a new computer! I want to get more out of the OS for mostly graphic apps like PS-CS2, Painter, Freehand, Fontographer, etc. Right now I have 1.5 GB of RAM & will probably max it out pretty soon.
No video or games (at least for near term). Have been doing homework by lurking here, studying mfr. sites & reading things like John Siracusa's great article (book) on arstechnica.com: "Mac OSX 10.4 Tiger". I spent a lot of last night digesting that. So I think I know what I want to do, but would appreciate opinions.
1. I'd like to get a graphics card that will get my G4 to Core Image-enabled. According to this -- http://www.apple.com/macosx/features/coreimage/ -- and other advice I've run across in these forums, I should probably get a Radeon 9800 (or 9600) Pro Mac Edition. The downside w this is just that they're currently not to be found at any dealers I've called or googled because of the AMD merger/backorder situation. Same goes for the 9600. Bummer. In the meantime I'm wondering if one of Nvidia models listed in the Apple page might work in my machine. Probably not... but does anyone know different? Here are the models listed:

nVidia GeForce 6800 Ultra DDL

I think I've seen most of these configured for AGP 4x, as I would need. Just don't know if any would fit into my G4... or if it would support the power requirements, heat levels, and so on that these things apparently generate.
2. I have another requirement besides just running Tiger happily. I have hundreds of fairly big image files that all still need a lot of work, for a book project I've been commissioned to do. Average file size around 200MB. And more than half of them are in a "Legacy" proprietary format used by an out of print app called Live Picture. So even just to convert all of them from that IVUE / FITS format scheme I still need either classic or 9.2 for a while. I can still do some things in L.P. better than in Photoshop.
It's a pretty interesting piece of software. The IVUE file is the base bitmap image. All corrections are in Vector layers on top. When done, the layers you want to apply are turned on and the final (or workaround buildout) is rendered as a TIFF, PS or stn file. (It also has a great prepress filtering engine to optimize cmyk for specific outputs). This app is VERY monitor drawing intensive - especially for layers with textures or selective color mods. When I was an early adopter in the program years ago, the developers constantly told us to do things like use as small a window as possible; turn off antialiasing unless really needed; build out intermediate IVUE's before collecting too many complex layers, and things like that. It has it's own VM system, and it does not like another Virtual Mem. running. Of course in Classic you can't turn off the OSX VM!
Development on this app stopped the arrival of OSX, and I think even before OS9! It was crash-prone back then, and of course is even more fussy in Classic. I can boot in OS9, but for some reason prefer the "security" of protected mode, since these new-fangled machines no longer have that civilized reset button.
So if I understand things properly, I want a graphics engine that will take the load off RAM for Quartz Extreme tasks. I've come to think that maxing RAM AND VRAM utilization will let me do more before the crash. Am I right?
Not necessarily the same needs as for Photoshop in Tiger; but for me right now this is my critical/important working environment, as this is a big paid project (it will be a vintage watch coffee table book - which draws from a couple of the world's notable private collections). It shouldn't be long before I'll be getting a MacPro anyway. Am sort of holding out for the sophomore edition, and Leopard.

Re their price gouging - Ouch! A 66% markup from retail, and they're refurbished. I think I can wait a month or so... of course if those cards were dc'd, I might consider it. But I talked to a guy at ATI, and he didn't give any such indication.
I did find a GeForce4 Ti4600 (NOS) for a pretty reasonable figure at another site, but that's an older, slower card. I'm impatient, so I'm tempted, but I think I'd be kicking myself if I didn't wait for the better solution.
Are you saying that I won't really do any better in Classic with the ATI, compared to my stock GeForce4 32MB? Forgot to mention I'm using a 22" Cinema (ADC), if that makes any difference. And I'll be running Classic probably on top of Jaguar (I installed Tiger on a fresh new second internal drive). I thought I'd skip mixing Classic with Tiger altogether, but when I booted up the first time, there it was in Sys. Pref's. I guess it saw OS9 on the other drive during install. That's sort of funny.
I guess my question is mostly answered. Will put up the flag shortly.

I am trying to install current Firefox 3.6, as I am currently running an older Firefox on my Windows ME, but I keep getting this error message: "Setup has caused an error in SETUP.EXE Setup will now close."--Please help?

I have downloaded all IP changer Privacy software I have purchased and am trying to install it, and although it is made to work with WindowsME that I am currently using on my computer, it now says it requires Firefox 3 or above to be able to install the software. Therefore, I am trying to update my Firefox to current 3.6 but once Firefox 3.6 downloads it doesn't install. Instead I just keep getting the same error message: Setup has caused an error in SETUP.EXE. Set up will now close. Several times, I have also tried restarting the computer as the error message also recommended But I just still keep getting the same error message when I try to update/install Firefox 3.5. Please help/advise on how I can fix this problem. Many thanks in advance!

Firefox 2.0.0.20 is the last ever version of Firefox for Win98 / SE / ME.
You can get it from here, but you are better off using K-Meleon (derived from Firefox) or Opera instead an old version of Firefox:

You can try KernelEx to get Firefox 3+ to work, but it would be very slow with an old PC of less than 750Mhz. 3.5 and later supposedly doesn't work.

My name and/or password are not working on start up page. Got given used macbook pro and new to apple so please help!

My brother gave me his macbook pro and I'm having trouble getting past the start up page that asks for my my name and password. I have an apple id and password but these don't work nor does me typing my actual name and the same password. I've rung apple twice and the first person said I had to reset my uusername account and told me I could do so by visiting the support part of the apple website using the link he gave me. The information tells me how to do this but I have to have the computer up and running to reset/change the account username and password. So no joy. Second time I spoke with a lady who told me the name and password should be the same as the one my brother used when he had the computer but having entered the name and password he gave me it still doesn't work. I've tried all the different name types of my name e.g. full name, no spaces, capitals and no capitals etc but every time I click on the right pointing arrow thing or press the enter button the password does a quiver/shake thing and nothing happens. My bro says he has a relatively new lion operating system. I haven't a clue what to do as I'm new to using apple computers and I've spent ages looking through the support section with no success in finding the solution. Any help/advise would be much appreciated. Ta

Resetting User Password in Lion and Mountain Lion
Boot into your Recovery Partition by holding down the Command and R keys whilst booting.
When the Recovery screen appears, go to the Utilities menu and open Terminal.
In Terminal, type:
resetpassword
...a small app will open and allow you to choose the user for whom you want to change the password. If you are the admin, be certain that you choose your admin user. Type in your new password twice and give yourself a good hint. Click OK (or Done or whatever) and reboot, enjoying the use of your new, hopefully memorable, password.

Need help connecting 5th gen Time capsule via wifi to existing wifi network(non-apple) and use ethernet out to AV receiver?

Could anyone help advise me how to use my 5th gen time capsule airport to connect to my existing wireless modem(non-apple) over the wireless network (NOT using the WAN port with a cable) and then connect with an ethernet cable to give internet connectivity to my AV Receiver? I would also like to be able to back up my macbook pro with the time machine/time capsule benefit. I know that many AV setups have recommended using airport express to receive wireless connectivity to pass on internet through the ethernet port to AV setups, but I thought I would try to add the extra functionality of the over-the-air backups with the time capsule at the same time. Is this possible without connecting with a wire to the modem which has no ability for a wired connection where the TV and AV setup is? Any help would be much appreciated:)

Urgent help needed in two clarifictions of applet code

I would like to confirm

The reason the assignment String qryString1 =qryString; doesn't work is because you have no scope to your actionperformed local variables from your executeQuery method. Either make qryString a class variable bty defining it outside any method ...ot, alternatively, pass the string into the executeQuery method.

Need help in order to recovery my Satellite L450-16Q

My laptop had a virus so I used the Product Recovery disk that came with it, thinking that it would fix it but it ended up erasing the whole of my computer even windows 7.
So now I have a computer I can't use I have bought windows 7 directly from microsoft which I have downloaded and tried to install but it doesn't work.
I have also bought the product recovery disks from toshiba's backup media site in hope that they will work.
Can anyone help/advise on what I need to do.

The whole story is a little bit confusing for me. So lets see what you wrote:

Thinking is wrong. What you need is exact info about recovery installation and this can be found in users manuals document. Recovery disc is not like Microsoft installation disc and cannot be used for repair. Recovery disc contains recovery image and can be used for clean OS installation (recovery image installation) only.

Why you cannot use it? Recovery image installation installs OS again. Which OS is installed after running recovery image installation?

But why if you already have recovery disc that you have used at the beginning of the whole story?
What you need to do is to use this original disc for OS installation.
-start your notebook and press F12 several times to enter BOOT menu
-when the menu is shown put recovery disc into ODD
-select CD/DVD drive in the menu and press ENTER
-follow the menu on the screen
After recovery image installation you will have factory settings again and everything should be OK.

Update statement help

I need some help/advise on an UPDATE statement.
I have two tables. I need to join these tables and update a field in table1 with a field from table2.
Please see the attached jpg file.
The first 3 coloumns are from table1 and last 2 columns in the picture are from table2.
I want to update NEXT_RATE_RESET_ADJ_P field (from table1) with NEXT_RESET_DATE_ADJUSTED field (from table2). I want to join them between table1.DEAL_LEG_ID_P and table2.DEAL_LEG_ID.
I have never written update statement with a join in it.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
