HELP! After Effects CS 6 BUG?

Hi,
i have a problem with my After Effects CS6 on Mac:
I import a footage and create an new sequenz. Ok everything works right. But now I go for example to frame 20 (The clip is 1000 frames long!) and hit alt + ä (I use a german keyboard! It's the same like alt+ ]). After Effects trims the clip but not on frame 20, it trims it on fram 21 and frame 21 is black!!! But the layer is long as frame 21! If i hit O i am on frame 20!
I tried to reset the settings without sucess! Can you help me, please?

You're not making any sense. Frames are sampled at their "beginning", so naturally if you trim on frame 20 and zoom in, there will be some are right of the timeline indicator - the rest of frame 20's duration in real physical time. This is nothing wrong and has forever worked this way unless you are describing something else. Of course we don't know anything about your footage interpretation or comp framerate, so there could be some problem if you make a mess...

Huh? What are the comp settings? They must be 720x480 for NTSC or 720x576 for PAL with teh respective correct pixel aspect ratios. Also make sure to disable/enable audio as needed in bothe the main Output Module settings >>>and<<< the MPEG-II exporter (just in case this will be the next error that pops up.

  • Which iMac upgrades help After Effects most?

I'm looking at getting a new iMac - the 27" with the upgraded processor (i7 3.4GHz). I see I can also bump up the graphics card to one with more memory (Nvidia GeForce GTX 680MX with 2GB of GDDR5 memory) and RAM can go to 32GB.
What I wan to know is, how are the current gen of iMacs for After Effects, and which of these upgrades will AE make the most of? Processor is always good, and the i7 will do hyperthreading (does that help in AE?). What will 32GB of RAM do for it, and will the GeForce with 2GB help? Can it offload any processing to the graphics chip?

Well, I was a Windows user from version 3.0 up until 2008 when I switched to a Mac. I found that from Win 95 forward, I was complaining about the same issues in my computing experience, and all were inseperable from the Windows platform. I say that simply to say that I've gone the Windows route before, and really have no desire to go back.
Why an iMac? I'm concerned that doing a Mac Pro is going to run me a LOT more, after everything. My main thing for the last 17+ years has been web design, and I have done a little video here and there. I want to push more into video as web content for my clients, but have not begun yet - so a large expenditure for a killer workstation would be pure speculation, and not based on actual work in hand. Basically, it's time to replace my existing machine, and I was looking at purchasing one at a slightly higher tier than last time, not a hugely higher one.
Also - as I noted, the goal is content for the web - shooting and cutting pretty simple marketing videos (talking heads, lower thirds, and lots of B-roll) and some animated infographic videos (I aspire to do things like this as my abilities mature: https://vimeo.com/album/1770463/video/25123730). I'm not planning on doing heavy 3D, or intense Broadcast AE VFX work that would require extreme rendering muscle (I don't think).
As to the Mac Pros - I have not looked into them very much. My concern is that they will be quite expensive (What did/do the most recent Mac Pros run? They are all gone from Apple's site). I also don't want to kill a fly with a bazooka. But I'm just not sure exactly how much power I'll need, and how much those deliver. If I was loading up my schedule with a ton of the kind of work that I knew was going to tie my machine up with renders, then I think a Pro would make sense. But if my kind of work is really not anywhere near that heavy, then, it would be largely wasted, no?

  • After Effects CC documentation bug and question

When you visit the page for AE CC to see if your Mac is eligible to run After Effects you go to:
    https://creative.adobe.com/products/aftereffects
    You are told
Optional: Graphics card from list below with at least 1GB VRAM and CUDA 5.0 for GPU acceleration of ray-traced 3D renderer
But there is no list below. It just switches to talking about the PC.
Can someone tell me which Graphics cards for the Mac are best to utilize the 3D ray-tracer in AE?
    Thanks!

The effect on render time depends entirely on the project. Temporal effects require CPU, particle effects require Ram, source footage that uses a codec that is hard to decompress line all mpeg formats load up the CPU, rendering large frame sizes may bog down the whole render if the pipeline to the destination disk is plugged up or the disk is slow. Personally I would say that once the minimum ram for your largest average project size is met, for my that is 4GB per core, CPU speed is the first consideration, then, GPU last.
Right now the only major consideration for me when considering a GPU purchase is compatibility with the Mercury playback engine used by Premiere Pro and it's inclusion in the approved for my 3D apps list.
My careful assessment of hardware requirements for the purchase of my new Mac Pro led me to the 8 core with 32GB and the D700 GPU because I could not find enough value in the nearly 30% price difference for the 12 core 64GB setup considering my projected work load for the next 2 years. If I end up doing larger resolution projects or Adobe significantly changes the way After Effects handles MP rendering I can always trade in for more capable system. Macs retain enough of their value that this was the best business decision. I'll use the savings for more storage and a couple of new plug-ins.
I hope this helps you make an intelligent business decision on your hardware purchase.

  • [Help] After Effects CS4 Sound Problem (Mac)

    Hey, everyone.
First post so I hope nobody is gunna rage at me for being a noob.
I have After Effects CS4 on Mac 10.5.8 and until recently it was running great, but then i started to get this problem where my sound was all high pitched and chipmunk like. How can i fix this and get the sound back to normal? (By the way the sound is still the same speed as before, just it sounds like its got chipmunk setting on or something)
Many thanks to anyone who could help.
    Zen

Check the Quicktime system panel. If anything there is whacked, you would notice it by odd values, e.g. a wrong default sample rate. The rest I can't help you with - only you know what tools you use on your system. Also, which we have overlooked at this point, make actualyl sure the output speakers are okay. For external speakers, something simple like a loose plug can considerably influence audio quality.

  • HELP: AFTER EFFECTS CRASHES

    Hey Everyone,
Recently After Effects 7.0 pro has been crashing everytime I open it on my laptop. I've had the program for a year with zero problems. My laptop is a Inspiron B130, windows XP, and I've recently added 2GB of ram.
I haven't done anything to the computer recently so I'm not sure why it keeps crashing.
It gives me a message saying sorry, adobe after effects has crashed. then it lists a website for me to go to for support and here I am. Anyone can help me?

Here's a bunch of tips, but if you still have problems after trashing the preference file, everything points to your RAM.

As Rick says, the most likely reason is that your operating system isn't a version that meets the requirements.

  • Bugs in After Effects

After various tests I have to assume that after effects has a bug.
Some of you succeeded (or failed) to insert cue points "Navigation" which are run in Flash?
    Thank you.

I wouldn't refer it to as 'success'...
Last year I was playing with pagepeel.
I didn't like the slow website, but it still exists as a beta one...

  • Help menu help loads After Effects 7 Help

Using Golive CS2, when I go to the help menu and choose Golive Help, After Effects 7 help opens instead, with a dropdown menu that has no listing for Golive Help. I just reinstalled Golive CS2, the update, and a help update to no effect.

First, ensure you have the latest help centre and Golive Help package:
    Help Centre 2.1:
    http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=3171
    Help Package: http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=3091
*Ensure the file GoLive_8.0_en-us.zip is in the Adobe Help
    Centre\AdobeHelpdata\Packages folder.*
There are a couple of Techdocs relating to the Help Centre:
331717 Help window doesn't appear when you start Adobe Help Center
    (Windows XP, 2000)
    http://www.adobe.com/support/techdocs/331717.html
319210 Adobe Help Center is missing content or returns the error, "The
topic you want to view applies to a CS2 product you have not installed."
    http://www.adobe.com/support/techdocs/319210.html
    If those don't help:
    1. Try deleting the Help Preference file by holding down CTRL+ALT+SHIFT
    whilst starting Help.
    2. Assuming ahc.exe is located in C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Help Center,
    delete the following folders
    C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Help Center\AdobeHelpData\Cache
    C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Help Center\AdobeHelpData\Database
    C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Help Center\AdobeHelpData\Preferences
    C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Help Center\AdobeHelpData\Search
The only folder under C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Help Center\AdobeHelpData
you should have left is one called packages.
    Run ahc.exe
What should happen is that your help centre database should get rebuilt
(you will see progress messages as it process each help package) and
    everything should work.

  • Problem Saving in After Effects CS6

I am currently working on a project in After Effects CS6 that is no more than 40 seconds. Yet, when I try to save the project, After Effects will not respond. As a result, I must force quit the application and restart it. I believe it is a problem with the file because I have worked on different projects instead and they will save with no problem - ones that are much longer than 40 seconds! Not sure if it is a problem with my ram or memory, but I checked both and they all seem like they shouldn't be a result of the problem. Please help.

    After Effects CS6 version 11.0.2
I have installed the most recent updates.
    Mac OS X Version 10.8.4
    Source footage: H.264
    There are no error messages.
When this problem occured was whenever I tried to save the project. I was not able to save my changes since.
I have never had a problem with it until now. All my other projects are saving correctly but this one seems to freeze up whenever I do try to save it no matter what change I have addressed.
I currently have Quicktime Player Version 10.2
I do not run any other software but Finder and/or Adobe Bridge CS6 while I am in After Effects.
I have a few plug-ins installed to After Effects but they have not affected any computer performance or created saving issues.
My computer is a MacBook Pro 13-inch, mid 2012. It has a 2.9 GHz Intel Core i7 processor along with 8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3 memory/ram. It has Intel HD Graphics 4000 512 MB and 373.99 free gigs of space. However, I noticed that over 280 of my 750gig hard drive are videos, a majority from After Effects. It would be nice to know how to perform a disc cleanup so I could perhaps solve the problem through that option. I have no external hard drives nor are any connected.
I have no third-party hardware involved.
I am not aware that I am using OpenGL to render my clips.
This problem only occurs when saving my project on this .aep file only!
I have tried emptying my disk and audio cache which has not helped ... I hope I will not have to re-install After Effects because that is the last thing I would want to do.
Hope this information helps ... thanks guys!
