HELP: Airport Admin Utility no longer see's my Base Station

Recently someone tried to unsuccessfully connect to my network while I was away.
When I came home I could still connect to the internet but my network name was no longer visible and had been changed. I could still connect to the internet via Airport but my Airport Admin Utility would scan and not find my Base Station !
I have found that in my keychain "Airport Network Password" "System" I cannot get my password !!!!!
I have tried soft and hard reset of my base station to no avail.
Seems I have to reset my password but cannot !
I am at my wits end, can anyone help

Have you tried to change the channel no.?

  • Why does Airport Admin Utility show wrong IP address for base station?

After setting up my new MacBook Pro (and apparently updating Airport Extreme firmware in the process) running OS X 10.4.5, whenever I try to access the base station (IP 10.0.1.1) from my PowerBook G# (Firewire) running OS X 20.2.8, Admin shows 254.128.0.0. I cannot access the configuration windows, getting an error message "An error occured while reading the configuration."
I am also currently unable to pringt from the Powerbook and an iBook (also running OS X 10.2.8).

I just tried the hard reset, and nothing has changed. I had to rename the base station and network, and change the passwords, but I still see the wrong IP from the PowerBook, and I still can print only from the MacBook Pro, where I also see the correct IP address for the AEBS.

  • Airport Admin Utility Doesn't See Basestation But Setup Asst. Does

G4 won't connect to established Airport network that my MacBook Pro and PC do connect to. Admin Utility doesn't see basestation even though it is listed under the Airport icon at the top of the screen. Using Setup Assistant it sees the network, but when I enter the correct password it gets an error.
This system has worked perfectly in the past.
I suspect the transmitter in the G4 Airport card has dropped dead. Any other ideas will be appreciated.
    Thanks in advance!

The configuration for the Extreme base station asks if you want 802.11g or 802.11 b&g. I had checked .11g only forgetting that my G4 Airport card was .11b.
    Pilot error.

  • No longer seeing 802.11n base station

    Hi,
I have a two-week old 17" MBP. I just reinstalled OS X (10.4.8 w/ all the latest updates) and I can no longer see my Airport Extreme base station when it is in "n only" mode.
I have reinstalled the "AirPortExtremeUpdate2007001.dmg" update a few times to no avail.
What do I have to do to re-enable the 802.11n functionality of the Airport Extreme card in my MBP?
    Thanks!

You might need to reinstall the N enabler which was on the CD that came with the base station. To see if you do go to
Applications --> Utilites --> Network Utility. Select the interface for the wireless and on the bottom it will say a/b/g/n. If it doesn't have the N on the end, then you need to reinstall.
If you already have the n there then you probably need to reset your base station

  • Airport Admin Utility, iTunes, Airfoil can't see AE base station

I know this is not a new topic, but I can't find an answer in any of the other threads. With other users the problem seemed to "magically" go away. I have not been so lucky yet.
Airport Admin Utility can't see my AE base station but I can find it using "other" and typing in the IP address. I was able to update the firmware to 6.3 (again using "other" and typing in the IP address since the fw updater couldn't see it either). I can see it (with it's name displayed) with my router software. However, it does not show up in iTunes or Airfoil either.
The base station is connected via ethernet to my home network. I tried rebooting the computer, restarting the base station, I also tried a hard reset on the base. I do not have "distribute ip address" checked. I do have "enable Airtunes" checked. The firmware on my Linksys router is up-to-date and not a hack. I'm running OS X v10.4.5 on a Dual 1.42 GHz PowerMac G4.
    Thanks in advance.

okay, I connected the AE base directly to the PowerMac with the ethernet cable and it showed up in everything (Airport Admin Utility and iTunes). So I guess my problem is with the router. What do I do now? This router is only a couple of months old.
When you suggested I disable DHCP, did you mean in the AE settings or on my router? As I mentioned initially, I do not have "distribute ip addresses" set up on the AE base. After reconnecting the AE base to the router, I tried disabling DHCP on the router and that didn't fix the problem.

  • Airport Extreme problem using airport admin utility

I have recently purchased an airport extreme base station, not the last one. the round one. I have set it up and share my internet connection with 2 laptops, both mac. the only problem is that when i open airport admin utility to change the settings, my base station doesn's show up, i can connect to it but only the airport admin utility can't see it, so now that I want to change some settings, like passwords, I can't get to the configurations. please help me i 've tried everything

I recently updated to leopard, and I started having problems with my iphone connecting to my wifi network at home. It had worked with out a problem, for months before I upgraded to Leopard.
I started to notice it only happened when my girlfriend would come home from work (she also has an iPhone).
I decided I needed to change some settings on my Airport Extreme but when I go to the Airport Utility and scan for an Airport it finds Nothing...
My Mac Pro and Power Book G4 always connect to the wifi...
My iPhone works great on wifi when the girlfriend is not in the house....
Her iPhone seems to always have a wifi signal in the house...
I Hope this has a fix... and soon....

  • Airport Express not Appearing in iTunes/Airport Admin Utility

After upgrading to iTunes 7, Airtunes did not work, so I followed the tips on the forum discussions, on MacOSXHints.com (resetting the IPv6 preference) and so on.
However, now iTunes will not recognise the base station at all. I think this is connected to the fact that the base station will also not appear on the Airport Admin Utility list. BUT... I am able to access the Airport Express by entering its IP address and password via the "Other" button. This has allowed me to check the AEx configuration settings, reset the hardware, re-upload the firmware, and even re-configure the AEx from scratch.
I am able to use the Internet through the AEx, and the network appears in my airport menu bar list, so I can select it and other wireless networks in range... It seems that iTunes and Airport Admin Utility just cannot see it. I have tried every combination of 'soft reset', 'hard reset' of the Aex, trashing of various airport admin utility and itunes preferences, and restarting software and the whole computer but this problem still persists.
Any ideas?? iTunes 7 is great, but I want my Airtunes back!!
    Thanks in advance - Danny

download iStumbler and note the channels other networks in the vicinity are broadcasting on, then change the channel your network is using as far away as possible from those.

  • Airport Admin Utility can't find Airport Extreme

I have an older Airport Extreme, about 4 years old. It's been giving me trouble lately, where basically I check my computer and it's not online. I have to click the tiny reset button on the back of the airport and that usually works fine (although annoying).
Today the problem seems a bit worse. I tried the reset thing, but that didn't work. So I tried to do a reset through the airport admin utility. Unfortunately the utility can't seem to detect the airport, although it does detect the airport express we have downstairs (which is essentially used to extend our network a little further).
Currently, of the three tiny lights at the front of the airport, only the middle one is lit, and it is not flashing. Earlier, just after doing a restart, the middle light was blinking slowly and the third light (the one on the far right) was blinking more rapidly. I have not seen the first light lit up today.
If anyone has a suggestion on how I might get this working I would very much appreciate it. Thanks.

Are you getting internet access through the airport? I have the same problem - airport admin utility can't see the airport, but the airport extreme has created a generic network that i can't manipulate without airport admin utility. I have internet...

  • Airport Admin Utility is Blind

My airport admin utility can't see my airport extreme base station, but the base station is emitting a signal, and i'm getting internet from a generic network it's created (i.e., I can see it in my list of networks available). What gives?

Make sure that you are connected to your AirPort Extreme Base Station's (AEBS) wireless network before launching the AirPort Admin Utility. If you are still not able to access "see" it in the utility, connect your computer directly, using an Ethernet cable, to the LAN port of the AEBS, and then, try again.

  • AirPort Management Utility and AirPort Admin Utility

Is there a difference between AirPort Management Utility and Airport Admin Utility? I see that the Airport Management Utility has not been updated for a while while the Airport Admin Utility is more recent. Does the latter replace the former?
    Thanks!

Is there a difference between AirPort Management Utility and Airport Admin Utility?
Yes, the Management Utility gives you the ability to monitor some aspects of your Apple base station.
The AirPort Admin Utility allows you configure and control the Apple base station.
Does the latter replace the former?
    No

  • Airport Admin Utility can no longer access Airport Extreme, what now?

I have an Airport Extreme that worked fine for a long time with a specific IP. They sold out and the new company came in and installed new equipment. The settings had to change on the Airport. After that, I lost my ability to print through the Airport USB port.
I tried to resolve the problem the other day. My Airport Admin Utility saw the Airport, but I couldn't access it. When I clicked configure, a window came up saying "Reading configuration from base station", then a Password login window came up. I enter my password, it says "Reading configuration from base station", then it says "An error occurred while trying to access the base station. Make sure your network connection is valid and try again.". It does the same thing whether I enter the right or wrong password.
It started working unexpectedly for a little while. I experimented with some settings. Now I can't access it again. The Airport Admin Utility sees the Airport as 10.0.0.0, my laptop's IP says 169.xx.whatever. I thought the Airport was supposed to distribute IP addressed. It did for awhile after I set it that way, but then it went back to 169.xx.whatever.
I'm lost. I don't know how I will ever access the Airport again. Or get my printing capability back.
    Help!!!

Ok. I'm going to try a reset on a day where I have some time to mess with it. There are some things I need clarified for me about settings. Please correct me as needed.
    In the internet tab:
    -Connect using Ethernet is selected.
-Configure Manually was selected before as it is now.
-IP address: do I use their IP or 10.0.0.0 or 10.0.1.1 or what?
-Subnet mask: It used to be 255.255.255.0 now it's 255.255.0.0.
-Router address: What do I put here, use their IP or 10.0.0.0 or 10.0.1.1 or what?
-DNS servers: I will enter their DNS servers.
    -Domain name: blank
-WAN Ethernet Port is selected Automatic.
    Under Network Tab:
    -Distribute IP adresses is checked.
-Share a single IP address (using DHCP & NAT)used to be checked, now Share a rnage of IP addresses (using only DHCP) is checked.
-DHCP Lease: 4 hours. What is best here?
Do I really need to worry about anything else? If the password is reset how to I access from default settings?
Thanks, after this I should have a better understanding of network settings and the AEBS.

  • PB Surfs Web Wirelessly, But Admin Util Can't "see" Airport Express - Huh?

    Hi All --
I have a friend (no really a friend, not me, I swear ;-)) with the set-up described below and a seemingly impossible problem. He's asked for my help, and so I'm asking for yours, because frankly the situation just has me stumped. Here goes:
    Set-Up & Other Relevant Facts
    • DSL connection comes out of the phone jack and goes to a Westell model 6100 modem.
    • From there, a short Ethernet cable goes to a Linksys 5-Port Workgroup Switch.
    • Two Ethernet cables exit the Linksys Switch: one goes to a PC, and one goes to an Airport Express (AX).
    • From the AX, a USB cable goes to a printer (a Brother 1440 laser printer).
    • The AX is only about 10 feet from his PowerBook G4 15-inch and he gets a full (four-bar) signal on Airport menulet at the top of the screen.
    • When he first set-up his system, the G4 and the Airport did set up the Brother printer (using the Airport Setup Assistant), and the Brother is listed as a printer on the G4's printer window or such.
    • Both the G4 and the PC access the web fine via this setup (the G4 wirelessly). In System Preferences > Network, the Airport Network is listed, and it says "Airport is connected to the network Apple Network 6c6c1. You are connected to the Internet via Airport."
    Problems
    • When the Airport Admin Utility is opened, no Airport Express appears at all, even when "rescan" is repeatedly clicked.
How can this be? How can the PowerBook be connecting wirelessly to the Web through the Airport Express, but the Airport Express no be "seen" by the Airport Admin utility?
    • In addition, although web surfing is possible for both PowerBook and PC, neither computer is able to successfully print to the Brother 1440. When he tried printing from the PC, he got the following error messages:
    [Status for LPT1]
Result=(02)The printer on this port is not responding.
    Status Line=BUSY:H,ACK:H,PE:H,SLCT:H,FALT:H,SLIN:L,HBSY:H,INIT:H,STB:H
Later, it seemed that printing from either computer would start and then stall, flashing a variety of different signals about spooling or "printer busy" and the like, all of which appeared to indicate things just weren't working right..
Anyway, the initial questions we're dealing with are the ones in bold above. The printer issues are probably are related and they can be addressed secondarily.
Any and all help with this will be greatly appreciated. Thanks everyone.

Please excuse this duplicate post, but I posted this this morning in the AIrport Express forum at about 8 a.m. and have thus far received no replies at all. In fact, it's only been viewed a total of nine times -- and half of those are me. Very sad, and my friend is growing fairly desperate and is now convinced that only a complete reset and fresh start will fix his problem......

    Hi JDee,
Well, it's the old 'friend of mine' gag, eh. Seriously though, it seems there have been numerous post over in the Aiport forums regarding this issue. I guess the first thing your friend can try is following these instructions to reset the AE. One of the other things discussed was the firmware version for AE. Some users have reported that version 6.1.1 works better than 6.2. One user reported being able to use the other button in AE admin utility, then entering the assigned IP address and password to gain access. One user resolved his issue by enabling the setting Distrubute IP addresses in the AE. It should be noted he also reset up his network at that point as well. Now as far as the printer goes, below are some instructions from iFelix for the Windows side which may be of some help.
    Printing from Windows to AE
Problem finding Printer Driver on Windows
For the Mac side apparently there are issues with that model printer. Here's a link of compatible printers that iFelix put together. You'll see the notation next to the Brother 1440. Hope that helps a little. Sorry I couldn't be of more assistance.

  • Not seeing base station in Airport Admin Utility

    Let me ask another question:
I have two Airport base stations 10 feet apart. One (A) is connected to the internet via the WAN port (all three status lights are on steady). The other (B) is set up as a relay base station (left and middle lights in operation).
From a computer with an Airport card I only see the relay unit (B) (I have normally seen both in the past). From the in-house wired network (cabled to the first Airport ) I only see the first base station (A).
Is this a sign that the first base station (A) is not transmitting a signal - don't see it with the computer with the airport card? Other than seeing a Airport station with a computer with a card, how do you know if it is transmitting? Do Airports fail (mine are a year old)?
    Tim

This sounds a little like what I have experienced with my setup. Hope I can be of some help.
Because you indicated that things have worked in the past, lets assume for now that the network is configured correctly.
First, I would use the Admin utility to reset both base stations. This will take a few minutes and I would recommend giving everything about 10 minutes before you move on.
Now, unless the wired computer has an AirPort card installed, it will only find the ABS that it is wired to. If this is the case, you will need to use the wireless computer to check whether both stations are now available.
With any luck, both stations will now appear and you'll be up and running.
If not, Unplug both base stations for a few minutes and let them restart that way and check it again.
    Good luck.

  • Airport Admin Utility wont see ABS "Snow"

    Hi.
The Airport Admin Utility (v 4.1.1) and the Airport Setup Assistant (v 4.1.1) , and the Airport Setup Assistant for "Snow" or "Graphite" (v 3.4.3) and the Airport Management Utility (v 1.0) won't see my "Snow" Base station. I have Mac OS 10.4.1 on my G5.
My Powerbook, which is upgraded to 10.4.2 with updated Airport 4.2 software installed will not see the base station with any of these utilities either.
My Ruby iMac, which is attached to the Airport base station via an ethernet cable running Mac OS 10.1 (I think) sees the base station without problem.
The networks themselves are visible (I have two DSL connections temporarily and have the newer DSL temporarily hooked up with the Westell Versalink wireless modem that comes with a Verizon account). Airport sees and connects thru to either network, but I can't see the Apple base station. I have no idea whether I should be able to see the Westell modem, but that's immaterial.
    - The DSL modem is connected to the WAN port on the Airport Base Station.
    - I don't have "Block UDP Traffic" selected in the Sharing Control Panel
    - the network names appear in the "Preferred Networks" tab in Networks
    - the network names appear in Internet Connect
    - the networks appear in the dialog text field at the beginning of Diagnostics
The G5 has Airport Extreme card and the Powerbook has an older Airport card.
Is this some wierd marketing deal on Apple's part to make me buy a new base station? Can't I make this work?
I've done a lot of reading in Discussion, Knowledge base and the usual Mac sites and I can't find the exact problem, nor can I find a solution.
(Oh help me Obi Wan, You're My Only Hope. )
Anybody got a clue how to see the Base Station?
    Catherine

    Hi Catherine,
You should be able to see the Airport from any mac. All that is important is the version of firmware on the Airport and the airport software on the Mac. I suggest that you get the newest airport firmware on the airport. The easiest way to do this is to plug the powerbook into the airport like you currently have your iMac plugged in via ethernet. Then airport admin should see it. Use the option to upload the default firmware to the base station.
Make certain the all macs that you use to administer the airport have the newest version of airport software.
As for the Westell, airport software will not see that. You will likely only be able to administer that through a web browser.
