Help! Airport Express for PC not recognized

I'm trying to connect a PC to airport express to use augioengine 5A speakers via wireless.
I've installed the airport software on the PC, plugged in the airport to the wall outlet, and opened AirPort Utility, but the screen is stuck on scanning. It can't find the airport device and when I click rescan, it still won't find it.
How do I get this to work? I would like to connect the airport to the existing network on the PC computer.
Suggestions are welcome.

When the airpoirt is plugged into the wall it is flashing amber.

  • Airport Express works but not recognized by Airport Utility

    This is a multi-part issue.
My airport express is online, recognized by by network manager but is not seen by the Airport Utility. I am running the latest firm ware upgrade and Airport utility for windows versions
The network is working. My laptops working on wireless connect to my network. However, my IPOD touch will not connect to the network even though I get a strong signal and the touch indicates it is connected to the network.

It happened to me today. I noticed that if you change the name of the Airport Express and also some other information in other tabs, like the wireless info, and then you save (the AE restarts) then it is ot available.
To solve the issue that I could not see it anymore, I connected to the AE with a LAN ethernet cable, then executed the set ups one tab at the time, saving (restarting) in between.
    It works

  • AirPort Express Base Station not recognized by Verizon MiFi 4G

I use an AirPort Express Base Station (AX) to connect wirelessly to my PC in order to play music from iTunes.  The AX is connected via wire to a sound system.  I have just changed from a Verizon MiFi 3G wi-fi hot spot to a Verizon MiFi 4G wi-fi hot spot.  I was able to use the AX on the Verizon MiFi 3G wi-fi hot spot with no problem.  But when I switched to the Verizon MiFi 4G wi-fi hot spot, I could not get the AX to work.  I used the AirPort Utility to update the AX settings, including changing from WPA to WPA2, and the AirPort Utility reported everything OK (green check mark at end of session), but the Verizon MiFi 4G wi-fi hotspot does not recognize the AX--the indicator light on the AX is blinking orange, not solid green.
Does anyone have any idea why the AX worked with the Verizon MiFi 3G hotspot but not with the Verizon MiFi 4G hotspot?
Is there some kind of workaround or another box to put in the system?
    Thanks.

It say's this on the main Apple Website:
Support for WPA requires Mac OS X v10.3 or later.  Use of Wi-Fi Protected Access (WPA) reduces the maximum number of network users. When joining an existing wireless network, AirPort Express supports only WPA-Personal. WPA2 requires a Mac computer with an AirPort Extreme Card and Mac OS X v10.3 or later.
So it has to be on WPA-Personal.
The Airport Utility should tell you what is wrong with it when it is orange.
Also, is it running on the same channel? For instance, are they both running on channel 1? Are you extending a network, or creating a network?
Hope that brain snap just puts everything together.

    Try the following:
    - Perform a "factory default" reset of the AX. (ref: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=108044_
    - To facilitate setting up the remote/relay base stations, place them in near proximity of each other during the set up phase.
    - Then perform the WDS setup as follows:
Set up the AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBS) as the WDS Main Base Station, by connecting directly, using an Ethernet cable, to the LAN port of the AEBS, and then use the AirPort Admin Utility, located in /Applications/Utilities, to make the following settings.
    WDS Tab
    - Enable this base station as a WDS: main base station (checked)
    - Enable wireless clients on this base station (optional)
    - Click "+" to add Remote/Relay Base Stations.
-- Select the Base Station that you want to be the WDS Remote/Relay.
-- AirPort ID: <verify that this is the correct wireless MAC address for the Base Station you are adding as a Remote/Relay.
-- Auto configure as a WDS remote base station (checked)
    -- Click "OK."
    - Verify that the Remote/Relay Base Station has been added to the list.
    - Click "Update," and then verify the settings for the Remote/Relay.
-- Allow wireless clients on this base station (checked)
-- New network name: <verify that this is the same as the network name for the AEBS>
    -- TCP/IP: Configure using DHCP
    -- Base Station Password: <the Remote/Relay Base Station password>
    -- Confirm: <same as previous step>
    -- Click "OK."

  • Airport Express Base STILL not recognized

This is a reposted subject. I spent 3 hrs. today waiting @ the Apple Store
to get my AE base station replaced. It was plugged in and everything
checked out ok on the station.
Now I'm home and finding the base station to be working..steady green light
as opposed to the blinking amber light on the replaced AE base station.
But on my laptop I'm still not picking up a signal at all. Went outside to see
if I can get wireless network but nothing was found.
My airport card is recognized in "About this Mac" in the hardware section
and I even checked to see if the antenna was still connected properly and noticed it wasn't seated..pressed it in and thought it would be solved... I still
    have no signal.
I read about downloading firmware 6.1.1 but I can't install it as my wireless network can't be found.
I'm at a complete loss as to trouble shoot this any further.
Am I guessing my airport card is shot?
much feedback needed until I get back to Apple tomorrow.. "A"

Ok here's the update on this now "mysterious" wireless issue between my
PowerBook G4 & AE base station.
I spent some trouble shooting time with a product specialist(s) a few times
this week. And what is happening is the airport card is in working order..whew!
I drove around with my laptop the other day, and was able to pick up wireless networks as I drove into different areas.
There is also a wireness network right out side of my place (over 100 ft. outside my door) but the signal doesn't extend much firther once I walk in
    pass my entry.
When talking with the product specialist we've tried plugging the ethernet cable into my Pwr.book and into the AE base station. Supposedly it's
to read & highlight my own network that comes with the base station (ie Apple Network d456jk, etcc..). Which it does but it doesn't allow me to get
online wirelessly. We tried different channel settings, moved the station around, you name it. I even went into 2 of my neighbors homes (1 next door
& the other upstairs and across the way) configure the station in the same way, ethernet out from laptop into AE base station .. my network is highlighted in the Airport Admin Utility but the same error occurs..cannot locate my Apple e389..network!!!
I'm so frustrated at this poin and wonder how i was able to get a signal and
now Apple's only reasoning is that I have some kind of interference that is
not allowing me to get a wireless AE base signal (which reads steady green)
    to my laptop.
Can it be software?? It can't be as I'm able to get to outside networks..
At this point I'm the owner of a base station and no longer receive wireless
signals to my laptop in my home.
Where does one go from here as the product specialist(s) say that have never
encountered anything like this.. I bet they haven't! rrrgh.

I really don't have an answer for that one. I guess that while trying to get things working correctly, I would use the most basic monitor I had which in your case would be the Eizon using the Thunderbolt port and adaptor.
When you boot into Safe Mode the startup is quite slow, but you should get the Apple logo and then the spinning gear below it (release the SHIFT key when it appears.) Then after a little more time you should see a gray progress bar appear below the spinning gear. When that disappears the computer will startup to a login screen.

  • Lots of existing threads, but no consistent answer - what settings need to be applied to the 2012 (new) Airport Express for it to work at hotels with an ethernet only connection?  Any answers specific to Japan would be helpful.

Lots of existing threads, but no consistent answer - what settings need to be applied to the 2012 (new) Airport Express for it to work at hotels with an ethernet only connection?  Any answers specific to Japan would be helpful.  I would prefer not to take my old Dell laptop and just be able to use my Ipad 2 via the wireless connection that the Airport Express creates.  However, I can configure the Airport Express at home prior to leaving if that is the best thing to do.

I have a very similar problem with my AE! My MacBook, MacBook Pro & iPod Touch (1st Generation) all get a GREAT signal from our AE. BUT, our iPod Touch (2nd Generation) and new iPad (WiFi) get terrible signal strength unless we're right next to the AE!! Tech support at Apple is of no help! I'm ready to sell them all! This all started when we got the last OS update for iPod Touch/iPhone/iPad. So it must be a software issue not a hardware one..
    Any ideas?

Using Airport Express for External speakers and Apple TV.  When I'm on MAC computer adn using internet sound from Internet does not go through external speakers.  Instead it comes out of Mac computer speaker.  Why?

As far as I know, the Airport Express only transmits sounds via Itunes. So every other sound (internet, but also incoming mail) will be coming out of your mac instead of your external speakers.

I do not need another wireless network but want to use the airport express for printer access only.  Can this be done and how?

You can configure the AirPort Expess to "Join a wireless network" and enable the Ethernet port so that Ethernet devices will be able to connect.
In order to print from the iOS devices, you will need to have an application like Printopia installed on your Mac. The Mac must be active when you want to print.
More details here: Printopia - AirPrint to Any Printer - Print from iPad - Print from iPhone ...
There is a free trial available for Printopia, so make sure that it will work before you buy the AirPort Express.

How is the express getting internet? What modem is it plugged into?
How is the extreme setup? New extreme cannot be setup with 5.6 utility.. you must use latest 6.3. Which also means you cannot setup from computer using less than Lion .. or you must use iOS with latest utility but it has limited configuration cf the computer version.
IPv6 is also needed.. turn on local link.

Q: Can I use my older Airport Express-g router (not -n) to extend my Airport Extreme-n wireless network? If Yes, Are the instructions the same as for adding an Airport Express-n router?

If you want to extend, using wireless only, the 802.11g Express doesn't support this.
However, if you want to use bridge mode over Ethernet or Powerline adapters then this is supported.

  • Airport express no longer being recognized

I previously had my home network set up and working with no problems.
I have an airport base station and I have an airport express that I use to print wirelessly.
After one of the recent updates, my airport express was no longer recognized by the airport utility but if I do an airport scan, an apple network with a random name was showing up.
I tried to update the settings on that network to extend my existing network that is working fine in order to be able to print.
Now the apple network that was showing up in an airport scan isn't even showing up anymore and I can't seem to figure out what to do next.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have the exact same problem.
After OS Update 10.5.5, my Airport Express has been failing every other day. It usually takes me 5 or 6 tries to get it running again, but at that point I get really frustrated.
Reset (via little tiny button on bottom, hold until orange light flashes fast), then unplug the Airport. Unplug the modem - wait a few seconds - plug in the Airport, THEN the modem.
Of course then you have to go to Airport Utility and search for the Airport. Sometimes it never finds it and I cannot understand why. When it does find it, it will be labeled APPLE XXXXX <-- random numbers.. Then set up your wireless network.
I hope Apple fixes this little disconnecting bug, it's really frustrating.

  • Print Help Airport Express Windows

How do link my printer to the airport express. I have a EPSON STYLUS4700. I already connected the printer usb cable to the airport. Do i need to use bonjour and how do i use it or what do i do please help!  I want it so that i can print documents from my i pad to my printer which is connectes to the airport express and i am currently using windows
    Re: Airport Express Connection

Unfortunately, not all USB printers are compatible with AirPort base stations.
Take a look at one of these iFelix Unofficial AirPort Printer Compatibility links, depending on which AirPort base station you have:
o 802.11g AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBS) or AirPort Express Base Station (AX)
o 802.11n AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBSn)
If your printer isn't listed, it doesn't necessarily mean it won't work, but simply that it has not been verified. iFelix also provides the following workaround for printers not on the list that would certainly be worth a try.

  • Airport express for playing PS3

I am thinking to buy this item. I need help because I want to know if this product does what it seems.
Im looking for a device who I connect in any telephone connection in my house to make my house wireless. That way I can play my ps3 online.

Sorry but the AirPort Express (AX) is not for you. The AX does not plug into a telephone line.

  • Mac Newbie  Please help: Airport Express conflict: cordless phone?

    Hello,
I apologize if there have been threads on this before, but I searched and searched to no avail. Here is my problem:
I recently purchased the new 15" MacBook Pro... LOVE IT! I also purchased an Airport Express for wireless. I have SBC Yahoo! DSL with a 2Wire modem w/built-in firewall. With Apple Care help, I have been able to connect just fine to the internet via the Airport Express. However, after my computer goes into sleep mode (overnight, for example)... when I "wake up" the computer and try to get onto the net or access my email, I cannot... usually there is a box that appears on my desktop that says someting along the lines of cannot find my connection.
As an aside, I have an old cordless 2.4 GHz phone in my apt. One Apple Care rep told me this was the problem and that I needed a 5.8 GHz phone. Another Apple Care rep told me that might help, but told me has used both 2.4 and 5.8 phones and fnids they can both have this problem so he wanted to try resetting the airport using the bridge feature hoping that would fix things. This solution failed.
I don't mind spending a few bucks on a new phone. I just want to have a reasonable expectation that this is indeed the problem. Any thoughts? Similar experiences? Also, if you have had and have solved this problem, is a 5.8 Ghz phone or the new DECT phones a better choice? I don't want to buy a phone that will work but impair my net speed. And finally, what are the chances that a microwave in an adjoining room or a neighbor’s phone could be causing this? I heard murmurings that Apple had fixed these problems with the newest Airport Express models.
    Thank you!!!

I did notice something that confused me; right after I clicked MANUAL SETUP in Airport Utility: a window that said something about ALLOW, DENY, ALWAYS ALLOW my personal information (or "confidential", I forget the exact wording and have not been able to replicate it)... after clicking DENY a few times and failing to get into MANUAL SETUP, I clicked ALWAYS ALLOW and everything seemed good to go. Any information you can give me on this, and what I did by allowing all?
This sounds like OS X's software firewall is doing its job. (ref: System Preferences > Security > Firewall). When you selected Manual Setup, this request had to go through the OS X firewall and it was asking you if this request was ok to do. When you first answered DENY, it prevented you from successfully administering the AirPort. The right response, in this case, is what you chose next and that's ALWAYS ALLOW.
Also in the manual setup/airport utility/wireless should my CHANNEL be set at AUTOMATIC?
Yes, in most cases this would be the best choice as it allows the AirPort to choose which radio channel to operate on that is clear of any other 5 GHz Wi-Fis in your area.
And should the little box that says ALLOW THIS NETWORK TO BE EXTENDED (located under the Network Name be clicked?
No. In this case, you are not extending the wireless range of your router with another AirPort base station, so leaving this unchecked would be appropriate.
Also, I let my computer go into sleep mode for a few hours while I had a dinner and a late nap and even used the new phone a few times. When it came out of sleep mode, my solid green light on the Airport Express was still there and while it took a second, I was still able to get email, connect to the net, etc.!
    That would be normal operation.
