Help! Airport Express won't connect to just ONE website

Out of the blue, my AE has stopped allowing me access to just ONE WEBSITE. I've always had access to this site before. Specifics:
1) If I plug the ethernet cable directly into the laptop, I can access the site
2) If I'm on an outside wireless network in my area or on a different wireless router, I can also access the site, no problem.
3) So, the problem seems to be with the AE connection. Yet, all other sites are accessible. It's just ONE that won't connect. But unfortunately it's a site that I need to use every day, so I can't just forget about it.
What I've already tried:
1) I've done both a hard reset and factory default reset of the AE unit, and I am still experiencing the same problem.
2) Have unplugged/replugged in the modem/cable/AE unit.
3) I can not manually reset my IP address because my ISP randomly assigns it.
Can anyone help? I need to use this site every day and I don't understand what has suddenly caused it to stop working.

Sometimes changing to the Open DNS settings will solve an issue like this.
Open Airport Utility, click Manual Setup and click the Internet icon.
Make note of your current DNS Servers in case you need to return to them.
Try these numbers for DNS Servers:
208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220

  • Help airport express won't connect to existing network

    Hi,
    I have a simple setup. I have a Netcom wireless router/modem/VoiP and a Macbook.
A few months ago I got a airport express so I could play itunes on the stereo.
I set it up fine adding the AEX to the existing network. I moved house and the net was off for 3 weeks so I reset to AEX as a standalone network so I could still play itunes.
Now the net is back on I cant get the AEX to connect to the existing network again. When I set up the AEX it updates the info but, then when it resets, the Macbook just can't find it anymore. Nothing I can do will make the macbook find it except doing the hard reset (paperclip in the side) and then of course I am back to stage 1.
I am sure I have the network password correct (WEP) and I have tried all forms of resets - please someone help!
    cheers,

I am having a similar problem using my new Airport Extreme. Got one express working for a printer, but second one (to play I-tunes) sets up, but then gives error message "Unable to find base station after restarting." Have done repeated re-sets.

  • Airport Express won't connect to ONLY ONE IP-address (website)

This is driving me crazy !!!
I'm using a Airport Express (Firmware 6.3) and a G5 (1.8 DP). My internet connection through Airport works fine, but... I can't connect to ONLY ONE IP-address. No PING no nothing. Coincidently it's my own website! HELP!
When I connect my G5 directly with a cable, everything works fine.
I've given the Airport a 'Factory reset' but even this won't help. It looks like the Airport is blocking only my own website/IP-address.
    Is there any solution?

I have exactly the same problem. I have been going crazy for the last two days. I upgraded and downgraded the AE firmware and nothing. I reset it to factory defaults and reconfigure it from start and nothing. All my 3 macs (G3,G4, and the macbook pro) are having the same problem and it happened at the same time for no apparent reason. From my house (were the AE is) I can access any IP except the one were my server lives (outside my house at the university). I cannot even access the university web site or my mail using IMAP from Mail.app. Traceroute ends in some place outside the university. Have you found a solution? I might have to ditch AE if this continues.

  • Airport Express won't connect to internet...all is green

My Airport express won't connect to established Network in my office.  I am connecting to a 10/100 base T in the building (as the modem, I assume) and want to broadcast the network for wifi.  Express sets up ok, but than cannot find the internet....any suggestions?  The port is live as I can directly connect it to my Mac Book and find the internet without issues.

It is possible to have a green light on the Express if some network errors are overlooked, so it may be necessary to reset the Express back to factory default settings and start over again.
Keep in mind that some networks will not allow a router to be added to the network, so a computer might work, but a router may not.
What model number of AirPort Express do you have?
What operating system are you using on the MacBook?
Do yo know if the Express has been configured to operate in Bridge Mode?

  • I have recently changed my bt home hub and now my airport express won't connect to it? Any suggestions?

I have recently changed my bt home hub and now my airport express won't connect to it? Any suggestions?

Anytime you change out a modem or modem router like the HomeHub, the AirPort Express needs to be reset back to factory default settings and then set up again.
The reason for this is that the Express is retaining some or all of the settings to connect to your "old" modem or hub, so it will not work correctly with a new device unless you start over again from factory default settings on the Express.
Power up the Express for a few minutes
Hold in the reset button on the side of the Exprsss for 8-10 seconds, then release and allow a full minute for the Express to restart to a slow, blinking amber light
Now, set up the Express again, like you did originally with the "old" modem or hub that you had previously.

  • Airport Express won't connect to Extreme by ethernet

    Hi,
    Here is my setup:
    a) Airport Extreme (802.11n 2nd gen) connected by ethernet to cable modem
    b) Airport Express #1 setup to wirelessly extend network
This has worked fine for quite some time.
Now, what I tried to is add a 2nd Airport Express via ethernet, so
    the new setup is:
    1) cable modem via ethernet to Airport Extreme
    2) ethernet connection from Airport Extreme to D-Link 8 port gigabit switch
    3) ethernet from switch to several devices (Tivo, GoogleTV,etc) and also to an in-wall ethernet connection to another part of my house
    4) ethernet from that in-wall ethernet to another D-Link switch
    5) ethernet from that other switch to printer (currently works fine) and to Airport Express #2
    6) Airport Express #1 still connected wirelessly
Problem: Airport Express #2 will not connect.  Won't show up in Airport Utility.  Nothing.
I have tried several factory resets.
After many tries, I finally tried connecting it wirelessly.  This worked, and I was able to see AEX#2 in the Airport Utility.  But, when I then tried to connect it by ethernet, it shut down my entire network.  I can not anywhere find step by step instructions on how to connect the AEX by ethernet to the Extreme.
I have reviewed http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4145 but find no help there.
Looking forward to some great help.
    - Blue

If I switch Express#2 (the one I would lilke to connect by ethernet) to "create" a network, with the same SSID and PW, then I can only see Express#2 in the utility and the Extreme and Express#1 dissappear.
As soon as you set the Express #2 to "Create a wireless network, the setting for Connection Sharing will change from Bridge Mode to Share a public IP address. That is likely what is throwing you off.
Setup Express #2 to "Create a wireless network" using the same wireless network name, same wireless security and same password.
The next...and last....and critical....step before you click Update must be to change the setting for Connection Sharing from Share a public IP address to Off (Bridge Mode).
Now click Update and wait for a green light on Express #2.
Then, you have to power cycle the entire network.
Power off everything in any order you want.
    Wait a minute
Start the modem first and let it run a minute
Start the AirPort Extreme next the same way
    Then the switch, etc.
You get the idea....keep starting devices one at a time until the entire network is back up.
Now all the AirPorts will be on the same subnet and visible in AirPort Utility.

  • I changed cable providers and now my Airport Express won't connect to the Internet.  How do I fix this?

I changed to Time Warner cable.  Upon doing so, my Airport Express lost its connection to the Internet.  When I run the Airport Utility, I am stuck at the first step, which says the AE doesn't have any DNS server addresses.  What are they and how do I find out what they should be?  And if I supply them, will that fix the problem?

Have you performed a Factory Default Reset on the AirPort Express?
If not, the Express is still remembering the settings that you programmed into it when you configured it to work with your old modem.
The Express is "looking" for your old modem, but it does not "see" 'it because it is no longer there...so it can't connect to the Internet.
If you have not already tried the Factory Default Reset and you need more info about this, post back for more details.

  • Airport Express won't connect to my network.  help??

*hi, i recently bought an Airport Express, and i finally took it out of its box after i purchased my new stereo. I connected the audio cable to the stereo and the airport unit and plugged it into an outlet. I opened up airport utility on my mac, AX appeared and i configured it to "join a wireless network". After completing the remaining steps, i updated it.. and waited for it to restart. Now here's my problem. It comes up with an error telling me it couldn't find the device after restarting. I have Verizon FiOS as my provider.. and I know that airport express has a history of trouble with the Actiontec router. Is there anything i can do with my current equipment to get this thing to work? I do not need to extend the network.. only join to use airtunes and print wirelessly... Also, my Actiontec router and FiOS connection are through my crappy dell pc downstairs, while i am using my 24" iMac upstairs in my bedroom trying to connect this. Should i change my router's settings? Thanks in advance*

The easiest thing to do is start with a "hard reset" (see below). AirPort Utility will lead you through its configuration, after which you should be rewarded with a green light. It will then appear as an AirPlay device in apps that support it, such as iTunes.
If that isn't happening for you, contact AppleCare using the Contact Us link below. Since it's new, you are entitled to free telephone support for the first 90 days of ownership. They'll talk you through its configuration and resolve any problems that may arise.
To "hard reset" an AirPort Base Station: make sure it's powered up, then gently press and hold its tiny reset button. Don't apply any more force than required to feel a tactile click.  Keep it depressed for five to ten seconds, long enough for its LED to flash amber rapidly. Release the reset button. Then, the LED will glow amber steadily for about a minute. Then, it will flash amber, slowly, about once every second or two, waiting for you to configure it with AirPort Utility.

  • AirPort Express won't connect because of self-assigned IP address

For years, my old AirPort Express worked just fine. Then it quit (no little lights, no action), so I bought a new one.
Now I am running into the dreaded "apple self-assigned ip address 169.254.29.74" error, which is apparently a chronic Apple thing. There's discussion all over the internet about it, and nothing seems to help.
    First, the equipment:
    AirPort Express
OS X 10.6.8 (Please don't tell me to upgrade because my old hardware won't support the newer OS)
Processor 2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo. (I don't have money for a new computer and this one is working fine except for this glitch)
    Memory 1 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM
    Actions taken so far:
Ran the AirPort setup utility (at least ten times)
Reset the AirPort to factory specs (at least ten times)
Deleted all the old Keychain references to the old network
Deleted all the old preference files, including one for a firewall
Reset the cable modem (five or six times)
Powered down the cable modem and turned it back on (only two or three times)
Physically typed in the IP address that works for Ethernet, but got the error message that it's being used by another device (This is insane because all the other devices that could connect are physically powered down. There's only one live computer trying to connect.)
    Results:
I can get a new network to show up on the AirPort icon.
The Network part of System Preferences tells me that the problem is an apple self-assigned ip address 169.254.29.74 that won't connect. ("I made this and it's useless. Aren't you proud of me?)
    Questions:
The documentation says this equipment will work with Snow Leopard. Is the documentation wrong? Should I try to find a simpler wireless router that doesn't demand as much from the computer?
Perhaps the AirPort is simply broken and I should return it for a new one?
Is there some secret work-around to defeat that self-assigned IP address glitch?

I am pretty sure the Express is running in the wrong mode..
The idea to plug the computer in is to check the setup.. not to need it permanently like that.. you can use either wireless or ethernet on the new express.. the old one you could only use wireless.
Please give me a screenshot of the setup of the express.
It must be in router mode.. ie when you open the airport utility and click edit.
Then go to the network tab.. it must show  DHCP and NAT.. the DHCP range does not much matter..
But I also need to see that the wan port is getting an IP correctly.

  • Airport express won't connect to existing network

Hi, I have a new airport express and an iPad. I want to plug my express into an existing Ethernet point in my room at work (I work at a mining camp) it worked before and my friends express works in the port. When I flew back to work this time it wouldn't work so I reset it and tried to set up a new network. I have the etherenet cable plugged in and the green light is on at the port in the back where the cable goes. When I try to set up the express it says it won't connect to the Internet. I also cannot see it on airport utility on my iPad. Is there're anything that I can do to fix this? It won't let me finish setting up the network at all and just reverts back to set up airport express in settings on my iPad. Thanks. Work uses a Cisco system if that helps, but like I said other people's work in the same prt in my room so it's not that.

tthis is wha is shiwn. I obv can't turn the modem off and on, unless this means turn the AE off and on which I have tried a lot.

  • Airport Express won't connect - Is it the speakers?

I have just bought a new iMac4 and bought an airport express at the same time. Despite connecting to my chosen speakers in the same room, the airport still only flashes amber. I've reset the modem, dowloaded new firmware, checked with my ISP whether it's wireless compatible (it is) and read through the various relevant topics in this forum plus used the help on the mac itself, but still can't get it to work. Could it be that the speakers aren't compatible? They are powered ACS90 speakers I used with my old pc.

    It won't be the speakers.
    Is it a cable modem?
If so blank it, leave it off for at least 30 minutes or even overnight before connecting the Airport to it.

  • Airport Express won't connect using 5GHz

    Hi Everyone,
I've got an Airport Express set up in "join a network" mode out in my living room for Airtunes and to provide network to my blueray player that doesn't have wireless. I've got a dual band DLink dir-825 router in my den.
My problem is that the AE won't connect using the 5GHz spectrum. It does connect just fine in the 2.4GHz at N speeds, but it refuses to move up to the 5GHz spectrum.
I also have a mac mini that does connect just fine using 5GHz and N.
Is there any way to force the AE to join my network using 5GHz N instead of 2.4GHz N?
Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

adsfushi, I just set up a dual network with my roommate tonight... we have two separate networks - one 5ghz (he can connect to it) and a 2.4 ghz that I can connect to, but I can't access the 5 ghz. It simply won't recognize me. Why would that be? I have an airport express and use a 24 inch imac. He has a mac book pro.

  • AirPort Express won't connect to existing wireless network

I just purchased the current gen AirPort Express and it won't connect to my existing wireless network. My current wireless network is on a D-Link DIR-827 and it operates on both the 2.4 and 5.0 GHz bands. My current gen Apple TV is connected to the D-Link wirelessly and it works fine. Basically all I want to do is have a pair of speakers attached to the AIrPort Express and stream music to it via AirPlay from all my devices. When I use the AirPort Utility, I keep getting the error that 'it's setup to join an existing wireless network but it can't find it.'  The light flashes amber and I can't connect to it. Right now I've setup a new wireless network for my AirPort Express but ideally I would like to have it join my existing network so all my devices can stream to it without having to connect to it seperately.
    Thanks,
    Ata

    Hi Ata,
...Right now I've setup a new wireless network for my AirPort Express but ideally I would like to have it join my existing network
If you already configured your AirPort to create a separate wireless network, it would be best to reconfigure it to "join" your existing network by starting over with a "hard reset": Press and hold the reset button and keep it depressed, continuously, about five to ten seconds, long enough for it to flash amber. Then, it will glow amber steadily for about a minute while it starts up, then it will flash amber slowly indicating it needs to be configured.
It will then appear in your Mac's Wi-Fi menu like this:
Select it. AirPort Utility will load and walk you through its configuration.
Be sure to select the option to "join" your existing network, and not create a new one. In that configuration, it will serve as a device for music streaming only, and cannot serve a wireless access point. For that, your router would need to be a genuine Apple AirPort Base Station.

  • Airport Express won't connect to my existing network!!

I purchase an Airport Express and I want to have it connect to my wireless network, but whenever it "restarts", I just get a message telling me that it can't find the Airport after restarting it. I typed in my router password(40 bit WEP), and it just doesn't work. Can anyone help me?

Unfortunately WEP has some password inconsistencies among vendor implementations. Try using the hexadecimal equivalent.
FYI 40 bit WEP is extremely weak. If your devices support it move to WPA2 or WPA. If you have some that don't support WPA or WPA2 at least use 128 bit WEP.
