Help! All calendars have vanished!!

I use iCal regularly. When I opened the program yesterday, it was blank! No events, no to-dos, and no calendars at all! I typically have about 6 or 7 calendars, some subscribed, some not, and not a one shows up in the list. The physical files for the calendars are still on the computer in the appropriate place (~/Library/Application Support/iCal/Sources/etc...), but they do not show up in iCal. I can't import them either. Also when I go to create a new calendar, it shows up briefly (for a second) in the calendar list, and then disappears. It's almost like the calendars are hidden. I don't have a backup database (I know, not so smart) so I have nothing to revert to. On my iPod, though, all of my calendars that were synced show up with all the events. I just synced my iPod, and my iCal is still blank, but all the correct information is still on the iPod. Any suggestions on how I might uncover/display, locate etc... my calendars?

Well, I tried removing ALL the iCal preferences, with no success. So I tried your second suggestion. I moved the sources folder to the desktop, and deleted the rest of the files in the folder. I opened iCal, and as I was about to import the files from the old Sources folder, ALL of my calendars reappeared!! I checked, and a new sources folder with all my calendars was in the iCal folder. Perhaps something in the old Sources folder was corrupt. Regardless, I have my calendars back...and I'm going to back them up as well!
As far as anything changing over the last couple of days - nothing that I can think of that would make sense...nothing new installed recently at all. The only change was in the usage of the computer - I used to keep iCal open all the time, but I've been moving around from place to place much more than I used to, and therefore not always keeping it open. So it's been opened and closed a bunch more than usual, but other than that nothing's changed. Don't know, though, how that could have caused any problems.
Anyway, it's fixed, which is what's most important. Thanks for all your help!

  • Please help, all I have is WSDL, URI and that's it...!

    I have a standalone Java application, which needs to call a webservice and several methods on that service. All I have is a WSDL file for the service, and the URI to call it. I have RAD 6, but I haven't done much work with web services. Can someone please tell me what I should be doing? I have generated two objects (a ...BindingImpl) and ...PortType, but not sure how to use them. I understand the principal of setting up a Call and Invoking it - but the WSDL stuff is confusing me!
    If you want to take a look at the WSDL then please let me know and I can attach or paste etc. I have been trying (in vain) to use what I know already, i.e. the Call and invoke above, but it's not working (there is no problem with the web service itself).
    Many thanks!
    Matt

    I'm new to web services but I'll provide steps working for me:
    0/ Get jwdsp (http://java.sun.com/webservices/jwsdp/)
    You need wscompile from that - in dir jaxrpc/bin.
    1/ create config , example
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
    <configuration xmlns="http://java.sun.com/xml/ns/jax-rpc/ri/config">
    <wsdl location="service.wsdl"
    packageName="company.soap.service">
    </wsdl>
    2/ run wscompile to genrate code :
    wscompile.bat -s out -keep -gen config.xml
    3/ in *Stub.java set properties:
    setProperty(ENDPOINTADDRESS_PROPERTY,"URL");
    setProperty(USERNAMEPROPERTY, "login");
    setProperty(PASSWORDPROPERTY, "password");
    setProperty(SESSIONMAINTAIN_PROPERTY, true);
    4/ call the service
    company.soap.service.SomeServices_Impl ws = new company.soap.service.SomeServices_Impl();
    company.soap.service.SomeServicesPortType wsPort = ws.getSomeWsServicesPort();
    String wsResponse = wsPort.ADSLcheck(params);
    </configuration>

  • All texts have vanished. Please help!

    Just opened my iPhone 4 to answer a text and the screen went black with the white apple in the centre. A few seconds later it was gone - along with all my texts! Does anyone know how to get them back. Many thanks

    what if I was about to reply to a text with my 3Gs locked, I tried to slide to unlock and after 4 tries it unlocked.  I then clicked on the text to reply to, and the phone went blank and when it came back up to texts, they were all gone.  The phone was backed up yesterday.  When I tried to synch fro the backup, no texts were restored?  Apple said call the carrier ATT, who I knew would be of no use.  Aple said the texts would be stored by carrier, ATT said Apple would have them.  I believe ATT should because when I was given a new phone, ALL the texts popped onto the new phone as soon as soon as the store activated it.  Any other ideas?

  • All songs have vanished from iPod and iTunes won't read it

    Hi there. I’m experiencing a rather distressing problem with my 60GB iPod Photo.
    I was listening to the iPod yesterday morning and nothing was out of the ordinary. Then I plugged it into my work computer (a desktop G4) and iTunes popped up with the “iTunes cannot read the contents of the iPod… please Restore…” message. However, the computer still recognizes the iPod as a drive (and my files are still present).
    More problematic is that when I ejected the iPod, all my songs were missing, even though they are still in there somewhere because I only have 15GB of space available.
    I have tried resetting the iPod and that hasn’t worked. Does anyone have any suggestions? I will only restore as a last resort because I don’t have all my music on my computer’s harddrive.
    Powerbook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

    Hi yodini,
    sorry to hear that. If, as you say, your ipod is still recognized as a drive, you could try to copy all your music (assuming it is still on your iPod) from your iPod using the following method. This is a major operation and it definitely helps if you are a little familiar with the terminal. You need to have Apple Development Tools installed for this, otherwise you have to work with hidden files. If you do not have Apple Development Tools installed and first want to see if your music still works and it is worth the effort, follow the steps 1-6.
    1. Connect your iPod.
    2. It should show up on the Desktop as "YouriPodsNameHere".
    3. Go to the terminal (Applications->Utilities->Terminal)
    4. Now we need to navigate to your iPod. In the terminal window type "cd" (without the quotation marks), add a space, (do not hit return yet) and drag your iPod from the Desktop and drop it into the Terminal. On your terminal prompt should now read "cd /Volumes/YouriPodsNameHere/". Hit the return key.
    5. Then we need to navigate to the hidden music files. Type "cd iPod_Control" hit return and then type "cd Music" and hit return, always without quotation marks.
    6. Let's check if your music works. Type "ls" and return. A list should appear, starting with something like F00, F01, F02 etc. Take the first entry in the list, let's say it is F00 and type in "open F00". A finder window appears with all the music in folder F00. The files will be called something like AAVP.m4a. Right click or control click the first one and go to "Open With" and choose "Quicktime Player". One random piece of your music should play now. If we got that far, we know (at least some of) your music is still intact.
    7. Let's copy the music from your iPod to the computer. Create a new folder on the Desktop and call it "Music". Go back to the terminal, make sure a) that you have enough space on your computer hard disk (60 GB) and b) that you are still in the folder
    "/Volumes/YouriPodsNameHere/iPod_Control/Music/".
    If not, repeat steps 3 to 5.
    Now type "cp -r * ~/Desktop/Music/". Hit return and wait until the prompt reappears. This can take quite a while (hours), your computer has to move gigabytes of data through a USB or FireWire connection! If your prompt reappears, you can enter "ls ~/Desktop/Music/" to see if you succeeded. This should list all the F00, F01 etc. folders.
    8. We have now copied all the music to the Music folder on the Desktop, but it is still invisible in the finder! This is where you need the Development Tools. If you have the tools installed, type
    "/Developer/Tools/SetFile -a v ~/Desktop/Music/*"
    and hit return. Then restart the finder (For example  Menu-> Force Quit -> Finder -> Relaunch or log out and log in again). Now you can see all your Music in the finder.
    Now you only have to copy your stuff back to your library without creating a lot of duplicates or without deleting ratings and play counts... This is another story, which creates a new set of challenges. Let me know if you got that far and we can discuss what to do next.
    Please note that there are also commercially available programs that can get music off your iPod onto the computer (e.g. Yamipod, Senuti, iPodRip) that will be much more userfriendly. However, I am not sure if they will work if iTunes does not recognize your Music and it does not show up on your iPod.
    Disclaimer: Everything described above is a bit tricky and working with the terminal has always the potential to ruin your data. So please be careful and decide if the music on your iPod is worth the effort. Let me know if you have questions and/or need specific help.
    Hope that helps, Lars

  • Help my rushes have vanished!!!

    Hi,
    I'm two days into an urgent edit on FCP 4.5. I've saved all my work, no problem. When I try to re-open the project I get a message telling me that about 50% of my rushes have gone offline. I've checked the drive they're on, and sure enough they've vanished.
    When I checked the directory that FCP is looking in, it says Trashes 501. I take this to mean that originally the rushes were in the trash, then when I emptied the trash, I wiped my rushes at the same time.
    I'm positive that there no way I could have accidentally put stuff in the trash - so what on earth is going on?
    Any ideas, anyone???!!!!! I have a deadline, and I really don't need this.....
    Thanks,
    stuart

    Sometime in round tripping with collateral applications, FCP seems to get confused about what is a master clip and what is a render. Since render files are taken care of (aka deleted) all the time without your intervention, it is only when then this case of mistaken identity occurs do you become aware of all the hocus pokus going on behind the scenes.
    So, as Bogie points out, the files are gone. Better to simply recapture and move forward. But, you might say, "Hey, I didn't round trip ANYTHING!" In that case, a sacrifice might be appropriate to appease the relevant computer daemons. While some may suggest a goat or other small furry animal, I suggest a good bottle of single malt scotch. Something over 12 yrs old so they (the FCP daemons) know you are serious.
    cheers,

  • HELP - all calendars gone! - deleted CalDAV account by accident

    So the title basically says it all
    How can I restore them ... please!

    CalDAV account or calendars? If you go to http://me.com/calendar do you see your calendars?
    If you see them, then you just have to set up the account in iCal.
    Open iCal Preferences.
    Click Accounts.
    Click the plus button at the bottom of the page.
    For both Description and Username, enter your full MobileMe email address, including @me.com or @mac.com. If you don't include @me.com or @mac.com, the setup will not be successful.
    Enter your MobileMe password.
    Click the disclosure triangle next to Server Options.
    For Account URL, enter the following without quotes: "https://cal.me.com". Be sure to include the full URL, including the "https://". Note that you do not need to include a closing "/" at the end of the url.
    Click Add.
    If you don't see them, you have deleted them and unless you made a backup by exporting, they are gone.

  • Iphone crashed, restarted; contacts & email have VANISHED

    So I was adding an event into my iPhone Calendar today when all of a sudden it just took the liberty upon itself to randomly restart. The screen blacked out, I saw the ring o'processing, my life flashed before my eyes, and then the apple icon appeared. When it had finished powering back up, the first thing I saw on my screen was the "Add Account" section of the "Mail, Contacts, Calendars" option in "Settings".
    ALL of my contacts, my email accounts, and all the dates and appointments I had put into my calendar have VANISHED.
    I am trying not to panic, but let me tell you, this is panic worthy. I backed my iPhone up with iTunes not too long ago, but do the backups automatically include contacts, calendars, and email information??
    I can't find any mention of contacts, calendars, or email in itunes, and I don't even know how to restore my phone using the backup I made recently.
    Can anybody help??
    Please and thank you!

    Apple is seriously losing my faith. My next phone may have to be an Android...
    Why wait?  Take a sledge hammer to your iPhone and get an Androgyny now!!
    Whatever you do, don't read the Androgyny forums about their reliability to make an informed decision before going ahead....

I am still running on 10.4.11 and Apple can not help me. Does anyone out there have any idea on how to recover my lost emails and/or addresses?

    Well, your profile info says 10.4.11, and you are posting your question in the iMac (PPC) category.  If you are running Snow Leopard, it must be a fairly recent Intel iMac.
    In that case, you should definitely post your question here
    https://discussions.apple.com/community/mac_os/mac_os_x_v10.6_snow_leopard
    where other Snow Leopard users can see your question.  Restate the problem, what error messages you get, and what you have tried already (for trouble-shooting).

  • Help. I have a Google Hangout in 40mins and my sound seems to have vanished. I went to Sys Prefs and it came up with Digital Out....and the Internal Speakers option is no longer there. How do I reboot, or fix this please?

    help. I have a Google Hangout in 40mins and my sound seems to have vanished. I went to Sys Prefs and it came up with Digital Out....and the Internal Speakers option is no longer there. How do I reboot, or fix this please?

    There are many possible causes for this issue. Take each of the following steps that you haven't already tried. Some may not apply to your model. Back up all data before making any changes.
    1. Start with the steps recommended in this support article. Don't skip any of the steps. It's the starting point for further efforts to solve the problem.
    2. Make sure you have a fully up-to-date installation of OS X.
    3. If you've installed an application called "Memory Clean" or any other third-party software that is supposed to "clean" or "purge" memory automatically, remove it according to the developer's instructions and restart. You should do that even if the software is not causing the problem, because it's useless.
    4. Other third-party software that has been reported to interfere with sound output includes "Boom" and "Samsung Kies." If applicable, uninstall according to the developer's instructions (not by dragging something to the Trash.)
    5. If an AirPlay device is selected for sound output from iTunes (or from other applications via third-party software such as "Airfoil"), deselect it.
    6. Launch the application "Audio MIDI Setup" by entering the first few letters of its name in a Spotlight search and selecting it in the results (it should be at the top.) Select Built-in Output from the list on the left. If the Mute boxes are checked, uncheck them.
    7. If a red light is visible in the audio-out port when sound should be playing, the internal switch is stuck in the position for digital output. You may be able to free it by inserting and removing a mini-stereo jack of the proper size. If not, the machine needs to be serviced. Inserting any kind of tool in the port may cause damage that won't be covered by the warranty.
    If there's no red light, the switch may still be stuck in the headphone position. Try to free it the same way.
    8. Disconnect all wired peripherals except keyboard and mouse, if applicable. If more than one display is connected, disconnect all extra ones. Restart and test.
    9. If you have a MacBook Air, turn off Bluetooth and restart.
    10. Start up in safe mode. Don't log in; just restart as usual when the login screen appears. When you do, make sure the words "Safe Boot" do not appear in the login screen. If they do, the system is still in safe mode and sound won't work.
    11. Reset the NVRAM.
    12. Reset the SMC.
    13. Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    /Library/Preferences/Audio
    Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select
              Services ▹ Reveal in Finder (or just Reveal)
    from the contextual menu.* A folder should open with an item selected. Move the selected item to the Trash. You may be prompted for your administrator login password. Restart the computer and empty the Trash. Recreate your settings in the Sound preference pane.
    *If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination  command-C. In the Finder, select
              Go ▹ Go to Folder...
    from the menu bar and paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V. You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.
    14. Reinstall OS X after backing up all data.
    15. Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store.

    Help!   I have an iMac 24" OSX version 10.6.8.  My iphoto is having problems.  It will not open properly.  All I get is the little wheel going around and around.  My iphoto is:  iphoto'11 version 9.2.3(629.52).  What do I need to do to remedy this?  I recently installed InstallMac.  I don't want this on my computer.  I don't know how to get it off.  I'm afraid that is what scrogged my iphoto.  Can anyone tell me how to correct this situation?

    Re: iPhoto:
    Option 1
    Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
    Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In early versions of Library Manager it's the File -> Rebuild command. In later versions it's under the Library menu.)
    This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
    Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.
    Regards
    TD

    Hello,
    Why do you need to use the regasm utility from the post-build action?
    There is a difference between signing the assembly with a strong name and digital signature. The
    How to: Sign an Assembly with a Strong Name article in MSDN explains how to sign an assembly with a strong name (.snk). See

    Hello melissa82686,
    From your description, it sounds like you may have been using the SMS feature of Continuity in iOS 8. If this is the case and it has somehow become misconfigured after a recent change, you may find the information and steps outlined in the following articles helpful:
    SMS
    With Continuity, all the SMS and MMS text messages you send and receive on your iPhone also appear on your Mac, iPad, and iPod touch. Even if the person you’re communicating with doesn’t have an iPhone. And regardless of what phone they have, you can reply from whichever device is closest to you, including your iPad or Mac. You can also initiate a  conversation by clicking a phone number in Safari, Contacts, or Calendar.
    To use Continuity for SMS and MMS with your iPhone and your Mac, iPad or iPod touch
    Your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch need to use iOS 8.1, and your Mac needs to use OS X Yosemite.
    Sign in to iMessage on your iPhone, your other iOS devices, and your Mac using the same Apple ID.
    On your iPhone:
    Go to Settings > Messages > Send & Receive > You Can Be Reached By, and add a check to both your phone number and email address.
    Go to Messages > Text Message Forwarding, and enable the device(s) you would like to forward messages to.
    Your Mac, iPad, or iPod touch will display a code. Enter this code on your iPhone to verify the SMS feature.
