On final cut pro my render manager are set to different drives for sure, I do use HD files and import to sxs but that says hard drive 3 and final cut says hard drive 2 and 3 so what it using my system drive
please help
Daz

Go to your application folder click on FCP and get info. How big is is the FCP application?
A few months ago I notice that my FCP application was over 1.5 gig in size, it should be around 413 MB. Somehow, some of my render files were being written to the FCP application. To fix this I right clicked on the FCP application and open the Show Package Content. In the MacOS folder there are two folder called Render Files and Audio Render Files. There was over 1 gig of old render files in both of those folders... Deleted the content of the folders and had no problems since. I didn't delete the folders themselves.
I did check my backup copy of my OS/Final Cut Pro before deleting anything. I wanted to make sure that the package content of FCP has those folders to begin with, sure enough it does. Why it wrote to those folders I have no idea. Must be a FCP thing for one reason or another.

  • Time Machine causing my system drive to fill up

    I really don't know what's happening!
I turned on Time Machine agian after having it off for a month or so. It ran a new back up (whch took almost 12 hours) and all seemed normal. But now, whenever it runs an hourly back up, my system drive gets filled up with something - I don't know what - until it has zero space left!
I can't tell what  it's doing or what files have been stuck onto my system drive. If I could tell that, I'd remove them.
    So I have two qusetions:
First, what is happening with my system drive? The only thing I've changed is turning on Time Machine. Why would it transfer files to my system drive instead of (or in addition to) storing backups on my backup drive? (The BU drive is a Western Digital 2TB)
Second, is there any way I can determine what files have been added to my system drive to make it fill all the way up? Is there some way to search by a criteria of "files saved to system drive in the last day"?
Please help, it's making my computer useless!

Oh boy Joe, what Apple doesn't tell you is that 10 GB of free disk space is not enough AND isn't free for your use, and in my experience 10.5.8 will be sluggish with less than 30 GB free, higher OS versions needing even more.
Open Activity Monitor in Applications>Utilities, select All Processes & sort on CPU%, any indications there?
How much RAM & free space do you have also, click on the Memory & Disk Usage Tabs.
In the Memory tab, are there a lot of Pageouts?
See if you can clear off a few GBs.
How much free space is on the HD, where has all the space gone?
OmniDiskSweeper is likely the easiest/best, and is now free...

    Hi,
Based on your description, I understand that this issue (C drive gets always full) occurred after Exchange
    Server 2013 installed.
    à
But my exchange server is installed in different Drive (EX: D)
I suggest that you should check file system to see what folders or files are taking up the space recently.
This issue may be not related to Exchange server.

  • How can I get "all my files" to recognize files in a non system drive?

I use a Mac Pro with four internal drives, OSX 9.2. My system drive is an SSD so I keep user files on another drive in an adjacent bay.
Files in my non-system disc are not displayed in the "all my files" finder view. If I copy a file from the system disc to my user disc, the copy is not recognized, and when I trash the original, of course, there is no reference to either. If I search, spotlight finds it. This behavior seems to apply to all files and is regardless of anything selected in the sidebar before "all my files". I have not marked any files, folders or drives as private. I presume I must have a set a pref wrong. I would really appreciate any advice.
    Thank you.

To change the program that .indd files default to when opened in OSX, right click on the .indd file > Open With > Other.
Then navigate to the version of InDesign that you want to open them with (I have CS6 installed but its the same for CS5). Make sure you have "Always Open With" selected.

With the amount of information you've provided it's impossible to offer a potential solution.  We can't see your computer so we need to know the details of your problem and setup, i.e.:
what version of iPhoto are you using?
what system version are you running?
what do you see when iPhoto opens?
    what fixes have you tried?
    where is you library located?
did you apply any updates or upgrades just prior to the problem occurring?
are you running a "managed" or "referenced" library?
    what type of Mac?
how much free space on your boot drive?

  • PLEASE HELP! System drive disappeared...

Hello everyone. Hopefully someone can help me figure out what's going on with my system.
Upon powering up, I get the blinking question mark. I tried loading from my system disk, but when I enter Disk Utility, my system drive is gone... It cannot be found.
I also have 2 additional 200Gb drives (ATA) installed. When booting from the system disk, Disk Utility sometimes recognizes them both as mounted, but sometimes it only recognizes one or the other. Regardless, it NEVER recognizes my system drive. (the 80Gb Seagate that came installed in my system)
Is the problem w/ my motherboard? I've only had the thing for about 3 years, so I can't imagine my motherboard going already... but I also can't figure out what else the problem could be.
Thanks so much for any and all help!!!
    ~ Stephen

    Indie:
OK, all three drives are ATA drives. You should have (and may have) had the 80GB drive set/jumpered for cable select and connected to the end connector of the ribbon cable on one of the two onboard controllers and the other two drives set/jumpered as cable select on the second onboard controller. Please correct me if I'm wrong about your configuration.
Some background info on drive setups... Normally, per Apple guidelines, any and all ATA drives installed in MDD or later model Macs use the Cable Select setup. (Pre-MDD Macs like AJ's and mine should use the Master/Slave setup.) With Cable Select, any and all internal ATA hard drives are jumpered using the cable select jumper pins. The physical connection of a drive at the end of the ribbon cable determines it's "master drive" setup. Never connect a drive to the inline connector of the ribbon cable unless there's another drive connected to the end connector.
With older, pre-MDD Macs, the drives must be specifically jumpered as master and as slave, and the master drive must be connected at the end of the ribbon cable, with any additional drive on the same cable being jumpered as slave. In older, pre-MDD Mac setups, a single drive connected to a ribbon cable is always jumpered as master (or Single, or Single Master, depending on the brand) and connected to the end connector on the cable.
It sounds like the issues you're having are directly related to the 80GB system drive itself, with everything else being OK. I wouldn't be concerned with a logic board problem...
AJ's comment about the power cable connector is something to check out, if you haven't already done so when swapping the drive from one ribbon cable/bay to the other. it's not uncommon to encounter a power connector with a poor connection in the plug's terminals, which results in the drive not powering up. (You can check this by booting with the side door open and placing the palm of your hand on the drive, feeling for vibration as the drive spins up.) I'm assuming that you have tested the different drives on both ribbon cables when you did the drive/controller swapping.
If the drive is "dead" and won't spin up, there's not really anything you can do with software utilities to retrieve your data. If the data is critical, you'd either have to send it to a drive recovery service (very expensive) or find an identical drive and try swapping the board inside the drive. If the drive does spin up, your data is most probably intact and may be retrievable.
I'd follow AJ's lead, boot your OS 9 disk, and try to mount the drive using Drive Setup, which may see the drive. This has worked for me in the past when OS X wouldn't recognize the drive in order to use Disk Utility on it. (If at any time in OS 9 you get a message that asks you if you want to initialize, click "cancel" in the message window and proceed on.)
Diskwarrior, TechTool Pro, or Drive Genius (all bootable) may be able to see the drive to repair it, even though Disk Utility doesn't see it.
Another thing you could try is to download the (free) trial copy of Prosoft Engineering's Data Rescue II and run it to see if it recognizes the data on your drive. If it does, you can then make a decision whether or not to purchase it to actually recover the drive's data. However, in order to try this, you'll have to get the Mac up and running with OS X first.
Regarding getting an OS X system on your Mac, f you don't have an empty volume on either of your 2 data drives, and if you have the space available on a single drive, you could use OS 9 to transfer the data from one of them to the other so you can install OS X on an empty drive or partition/volume. Unlike OS 9, if you attempt a fresh install of OS X on one of your existing drives, it will erase the volume's data in the process.
If you can't move enough data or transfer to disk to free up one of your drives, then I'd recommend getting another drive to work with. Perhaps you can borrow one from a friend. (?) Here's a Hitachi 80GB drive for $30 after rebate, if there's a CompUSA near you (in-store pickup only).

  • Help - Unmounting external USB drives causes error to system drive

    Hi,
I am having problems with my Mid 2009 24" iMac OS 10.6.7. When unmounting external drives(usb OR firewire), I get either a message that "your computer must be restarted...." or sometimes system freezes.
Upon reboot and examining system drive with Disk Utility, I will find file count and/or folder count errors. I must then reboot from my SL disc, repair the errors and reboot, after which the system seems to run without problems...
So far, upon reconnecting and mounting those external drives, I have found no errors or anything that would lead me to believe that they were not unmounted correctly...
Any help with this would be appreciated. It is beginning to be frustrating to go through this crash and repair of the system drive each time I try to use an external drive....
    Thanks,
    JP

I have heard others with this problem so I am really surprised none here can help.  My iMac has just crashed for the third time with corrupted disks because of this problem.
I will try Macfixit or something.  Thanks

Can someone please help a friend of mine get a permanent registration key (not a trial key that expires in 30 days) to replace his lost registration key for Adobe Photoshop CS2? His previous hard drive crashed and he no longer has his registration key. This is vital for his wedding business.

Thanks to everyone for the tips on my CS2 question. It turns out in the end it was some plug-in filter software that was causing the glitch, not a lack of an Adobe registration key. As for why he still uses CS2, it does the job for him, so that's all he needs.

  • Looking for a report to get all managed system components

    Hi,
We are looking for a report to get the support pack level of managed system.
We can get that by going individually on each system entry in SMSY. Is there a standard report or a transaction in solution managed that can list the support pack level of all managed systems ?
    Thansk you for your help.
    Chak

    Hi,
Another option you have -- provided that you are running EarlyWatch Reports on all of your systems -- would be to create a single Service Level Report.
You would create a variant that includes all of your systems under the Select for Reporting column. Then under the Content from Solution Manager tab select the System Configuration -->  Select for Reporting box.
This System Configuration report will provide you will the hardware info (OS version, CPU, memory), database version, SAP software components/version, and the SAP kernel.
The SLR allows you to extract and aggregate segments of your EWAs into a single report.
    Good luck.

All my hard drives (internal and external) have a small lock in the lower left corner of the icon and I don't have permissions to access. I have 3 user accounts set up and I cannot access any of them.   Permissions are set to 'Custom' in the get info window and I can't change them. Originally I had Snow Leopard installed on one hard drive and 10.5.8 installed on another.   I started to have some problems accessing data between them and so I tried changing the permissions on ONE hard drive partition.   The next thing I know, all my drives are locked (except the ones with the systems on them), the small lock appeared in the lower left corner of the drive icons and I don't have permissions to access any of them.   In the get info window, permissions are set to 'Custom' and I can't change them.

There is suddenly a lock icon on my external backup drive!

  • I accidentally changed permissions of all the files of my system drive (10.8.5)

    Hi,
By mistake, I accidentally changed the permissions for all the files of my entire system drive. On the root of my system drive, I've put on "Read and Write" for Admin, staff, and everyone, and applied this change to all the files of my entire drive.
Since I did that, I experiment issues with some applications which worked perfectly before that : when I try to open some applications (not all, just some), it tells me things like "something is wrong in the installation of the application", or "can't open the following application", or it simply just doesn't open it.
I have to mention I have no Time Machine or backups of my drive, as I bought my mac three days ago and spent the two last days installing plugins and applications on my drive (for audio production). So I can't replace my drive with a backup of the system before I accidentally changed all permissions.
Also, I repaired permissions on my drive with the disk utility, but all the app that doesn't work are from external developpers (not apple).
Is there any way to "repair" this without having to reinstall all the app that are causing problems ? It would be a pain for me as I just spent 48hours installing everything...
Thanks for anyone that could help...

You need a backup, preferably more than one. This is an example of why.
Try setting up another admin user account to see if the same problem continues. If Back-to-My Mac is selected in System Preferences, the Guest account will not work. The intent is to see if it is specific to one account or a system wide problem. This account can be deleted later.
Isolating an issue by using another user account
If the problem is still there, try booting into the Safe Mode using your normal account.  Disconnect all peripherals except those needed for the test. Shut down the computer and then power it back up after waiting 10 seconds. Immediately after hearing the startup chime, hold down the shift key and continue to hold it until the gray Apple icon and a progress bar appear. The boot up is significantly slower than normal. This will reset some caches, forces a directory check, and disables all startup and login items, among other things. When you reboot normally, the initial reboot may be slower than normal. If the system operates normally, there may be 3rd party applications which are causing a problem. Try deleting/disabling the third party applications after a restart by using the application un-installer. For each disable/delete, you will need to restart if you don't do them all at once.

I am not 100% sure this is the issue, but I saw a different thread about the ATI Radeon HD 2600 not being OpenCL compatible for another program and that a newer compatible graphics card would be required to solve the problem.  I am getting the same message with my 2007 iMac 24".
