Help - An unknown error occurred (-50)
For the last few weeks I have been getting 'An unknown error occurred (-50)' when trying to download new purchases or updates via iTunes, can anyone help?
I've tried every solution I have encountered all with no success. Off the top of my head I've checked the firewall and antivirus, tried deleting partial downloads in the iTunes folder, uninstalled the one download accelerator I had, tried a winsock reset, uninstalled and re-installed iTunes and still no luck. This is driving me nuts, I can download everything fine on our iPad or iPhones and then sync these to our laptop but virtually any file over 20Mb seems to fail with the above error when downloading on the laptop. I'm running iTunes on Windows 7 x64.
Any help much appreciated.
No matter what I tried I could not get this resolved. The latest iTunes update seems to have addressed the issue, downloaded over 200 updates and several HD series without a glitch so far.

I have several iPods and have used them basically trouble-free for years. Last night though, my 1st Generation ipod, after coming home after being away for a month, "died" after synching to my mac-mini. I went through the 5 Rs, but have no success in retsoring the Nano even to the original settings. The restore process via iTunes fails, giving the error message 1418. The unit has not been dropped or abused, but the only thing that has changed is an update to itunes and quick time on the mac mini. Any help is appreciated, as it appears my warranty expired while on vacation....

I am trying to restore my iphone3g but I can only get to item 8 and then it stops and says ( could not be restored unknown error occured)

a day or so ago my macbook 13in crashed in the middle of use, took several minutes to then reboot and now seems to be working fine except itunes will not open. when i try to open it a dialog box appears with the following message: "The itunes application could not be opened. an unknown error occured (13014).
I am running snow leopard, and it first appeared it was disk space but i checked my HD and it says there is 372GB available so i cant imagine its that.

Can somebody help me in finding a solution or an explanation to the problem I am currently experiencing as well as others wherein we cannot connect to the iTunes store. An error message appears and either says "iTunes could not connect to the store. An unknown error occurred (0x80096004). Despite the fact that my network connection is working quite fine, this problem still persists. I can say that my connection is fine because I can surf the internet and furthermore, I used to connect to the iTunes store just before this incident happened which started from April 17, 2014 and persists until today. I tried to solve the problem by following the troubleshoot procedures given in the support section of this site but it really did not solve the problem. I believe that others are experiencing this situation as well very similar to mine when it comes to the time of occurrence as I have read in the discussions in this site. Even though we have different network connections, operating systems and other specifications, we still experience the same problem, so is there really a problem with our computers or is it with the iTunes? Try this...
Triple click anywhere in the line below to select it and press Ctrl+C to copy it.
cmd /k netsh winsock reset
Press the WinLogoKey+R to open the run dialog, then Ctrl+V to paste, then press enter/return.
You should get something similar to this:
Reboot the computer and the problem should be resolved.
If it doesn't work then perhaps a full tear down and rebuild of iTunes will fix things. See Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates for details.

Every single time, it'll do the regular sync thing then a little pop up comes up and says "The iPod "[ipod name here]" cannot be synced. An unknown error occurred (13019)." ***? I have searched all over for troubleshooting help. I'm exhauseted. Can anyone help me with this pestering problem? hello, i just downloaded itunes on my acer laptop and its been giving me problems everytime i try to get on to the itunes store.. it gives me a message saying "itunes could not connect to the itunes store. an unknown error occurred. This message keeps coming up everytime I try and log in on iTunes:

I have have looked at my proxy and unclicked the box.
I have enabled iTunes on my firewall.
I have uninstalled it and reinstalled the update.

In my case it is a problem with Webkit2 and they way it handles SSL certificates.
To test if this is the case install Safari for windows 5.1.7(if not already installed) and try to access a secure site, like facebook or your banking, if you receive a certificate dialog box saying
"Safari can't verify the identity of the website"
If you hit "Continue" and the page loads but does not render correctly ........
Then try using another browser (IE/FF/Chrome) and see if you are able to access the site without prompts and the page renders correctly.
From Safari 4.04 onwards (as well as iTunes) it uses the windows root certificate store, to test uninstall Safari 5.1.7 and go back as far as Safar 3.2.3 (oldapps.com) and then try to access a secure site, if it renders correctly (back then Safari handled it's own certificates) you have the same problem as me
If you also look in the logs for itunes when you're accessing (attempting) the store if you find a reference to webkit2 and certificates that should further help clarify the problem. btw - don't bother with windows root certificate updates if your other browsers work ok -

Please help. So I had recently jail broken my iPod(2G, 8MG), which was stupid of me and I regret it, but I kept having issues with it so I manually erased everything off my device from the settings straight on my iPod, then my iPod refused to go passed the apple logo when it restarted.
I have updated my iTunes, I have put my iPod in DFU mode multiple times and have tried restoring it and it doesn't work, then I press "shift" (I work on a Windows) and then click restore and my downloads file comes down and I click on the firmware I downloaded which is 4.2.1 I believe. It starts to restore, then after around 5 minutes I get the error message "The iPod could not be restored. An unknown error occured. Error 1603."

If you want to solve your problems, unjailbreak. And don't do it again, because jailbreaking causes problems as you read about in that article. You can try Recovery Mode: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1808
