Help and advice needed please

Hi all, had a moving home 12 days ago, my ip profile is 56.56 but I only get a average of 25mb throughput on Ethernet. I also wanted a data extension but the subby made a right mess of my wall and the data ext kills my bb when connected, so I have had to completely remove it and buy a long white Ethernet lead. Any advice please guys? Ps my bras is 58mbps

The subcontractor left the bt socket off the wall, holes in my fresh painted skirting board as he didn't want to get his drill so tried to mount on the skirting, also tried to mount the modem on skirting! . He said do I want to mount it all!? I said yes due to the mess he was making of my new house. I'm field staff for a rival company so the mounting was no problem. But what he did do was use telco wire from x2 terminals from the I plate I think it's called to data socket. When ethernet plugged into socket my bb drops? Hence I had to take it away. When he left I was getting approx 40 meg throughput, this has dropped to 25 ish since. My brass rate is still 56.56 dropped from 58mbps. I have made good his damage so won't raise a claim. But if anyone could offer advice, that would be great. I would also like to communicate with a moderator if poss? Thanks

That screen grab helps a lot. There’s a much easier way of doing what you’re doing.
Remove all your tabs and set the text in justified paragraphs.
I’ve typed in dummy text in the example I made below, but after “19.1” put in a space and put your blinking cursor after the space and before the ’N’ of ‘Notices'.
Then hold down the Command key and hit Backspace (on Mac at least - it’s the key between the Inverted commas/ apostrophe key and the return key).
The text will jump into place the way you want it to.

PS You can set a tab, instead of using a space, in the description I gave above. So, after 19.1 or 19.2 or 19.185 etc etc insert a tab, then hit the Command Backspace after every paragraph number and they'll all line up exactly together. You'll find that editing text within the paragraphs
after you've set it will be LOADS easier this way.
You can put the tab anywhere you want it to be using 'Command-ShiftT' and putting a 'left align' tab just after the number. Just type the Command Backspace after the paragraph number and it'll work

Job Interview - Help and Advice Needed

Hi all,
This may seem like a strange request for help but I'm completely stuck. I've just completed a Computer Science degree and have applied for a Junior Developer role at an Insurance company. I was lucky enough to get an interview which is this Thursday. Which is great, but not so great!
The interview is a 45 minute programming exam and the only instructions I get up until the exam are;
As an overview - it will require you to write some software using a language of your choice to interrogate a database and manipulate the data.
Now I'm not the greatest programmer (strange considering I'm applying for a Junior Developer role, but a jobs a job right?!) and during my degree I never used any language other than SQL/Oracle to interrogate databases. I've said that I'll be attempting the task with Java (as its the language I know best) However - I'm not sure where to start looking to get myself up to speed.
Could some of you be so kind as to point me in the right direction of where to start looking? What classes should I focus on? Am I right in thinking I would need to use DTOs? Am I asking the right questions?!
I don't hold out much hope for the interview but I'll be going for the experience at least - but if any of you could offer any advice on what I should revise before hand I would be forever greatful.

With only 45 minutes, I assume the task will be pretty narrowly defined. My experience is that new developers out of CS majors (myself included) tend to over-design things. Given the short amount of time, I would suggest not trying to impress them with your knowledge of patterns unless they make the task easier to finish in the allotted amount of time. Focus on completely the task(s) successfully. That's going to be a lot more impressive unfinised work. 45 minutes is going to blow by, so don't get too fancy. In addition, if you over do the design, a lot of experienced developers will not look upon it kindly. Keep it simple and correct.

Also how can i copy the sms saved messages folder to some where else like faourites?

You can't move "that" folder.
But do you currently have your SMS messages as a part of the overall main Messages folder?
If you want to move THOSE to a separate SMS folder... Go to your main Messages folder and select Options > Inbox Management > and UNcheck the "Text Messages" options to create a disinct folder for SMS.

Help and Advice needed to open ports

I have a BT HomeHub. I also use a Vodafone Sure Signal box in order to be able to receive messages on my mobile at home. The box is not connecting to the internet and Vodafone says i need to open the following ports
8, 50, 500, 4500 and 123
I have no idea where to even begin. Please can someone advise me?

Putting movies on the web for download - help and advice needed

Hello everybody,
I'm not sure whether this is the right place for this question, but here's hoping...
I've produced an hour long DVD on the history of my car club. I have produced the DVD using iMovie and iDVD, and it's fine.
We will be having a number of these DVDs produced, but we also want to offer the movie as a download on our website. Of course this needs to be compressed, but what I want to be able to do is offer the user a file that will burn them a DVD with chapter markers etc, just like the DVD I have, in one operation - a straightforward duplicate. I also want to be able to let them download a label and jewel case insert and offer a complete package.
Is an easy duplicate like this possible, and what sort of file size would the compressed item be? As the DVD is close to capacity, I assume the original will be around 4.7 Gb. There are also some jpegs on the DVD as extras.
Certainly, it would be desirable for the user to play it on their computer, but the main aim is to get a disc TV ready (in the PAL format).
I know you can download movies from the web, and I've downloaded trailers onto my iPod and played them back on a 32" TV and they're excellent. What I don't know is what software will do this. Can anybody point me in the right direction?

I suppose you could put up a 4 something gigabyte DVD disk image up somewhere on the web, but I wouldn't want to try and download it! Do you have a site available with this kind of storage and download bandwidth?
Normally, the things I've seen on the web are reduced in image size to something like 320x240 - this reduces the file size to 1/4 the full size file.
For Apple users, H.264 gives a pretty compact file with decent quality, but I'm not sure many PC users would be able to use it. In any event, people couldn't make a DVD with chapters without extra work.
You could get QuickTime Pro and try converting the movie (or a part of it anyway) to H.264 (or 'regular' mpg-4) see how it looks.

I have just taken the bold leap into Indesign and this is the first day of my 30 day trial.
I need help and advice from you good poeple...please.
I have been successfully creating A5 booklets (folded A4) using MS Word and printing to a desktop printer. MS Word sorted out my page order for me at printing time so the correct pages were put together.
I have been reading as much information as I could find but I am still unable to do the same in Indesign.
I'm looking forward to using the advanced layout features and having control over what I do but, I need to work out this basic step before I go any further.
I hope what I have explained makes sense.

So presumably you create a new document, A5 portrait, facing pages. Make sure your ducument page count is a multiple of 4.
Create, type, tweak, ponder, edit, smile, save.
To create you booklet using InDesign, from the file menu select Print Booklet.
You will probably need to jump back and forth from the Print Settings button adjusting Paper Size, Orientation, Color, and from the Print Booklet tab set for 2-up Saddle Stitch.

See Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device. But you'll still need the password.
Once you have the computer authorized to use the account she could change the password again to stop you buying apps on her card (assuming it's not on yours!). It would lock you out of upgrading them too but they should work unless she uses the deathorize all feature.
It depends on how amicable the split is...

A newbie in need of help and advice

I was wondering if someone could help and advise me...
I got my macbook at the beginning of the year.. I love it, so far. BUT as its my first mac, I know nothing about them or how to proceed.
I understand there is a thing called 'bootcamp', where I can install Windows. I have just started college and a lot of the stuff I will be working on in class, I would like to continue at home, so I need windows.
Obviously after persuading my hubby to buy me a mac, I cant turn around and say its no good for college work. Now this bootcamp and installing windows... would I get virus's like a normal windows computer? This was my big thing about buying a mac, the lack of virus.
How do i even go about getting windows? etc

Hi Nic,
You can buy your own genuine copy of Windows from either Microsoft or a reliable reseller like Amazon. I would recommend Windows 7 Home Premium. On Amazon you can find a reasonable discount at the link below.

Once you get your copy of Windows, you can proceed with the Boot Camp installation.
1. Open Boot Camp Assistant after backing up important files and documents.
2. You should have a Snow Leopard OS X DVD on hand if you bought the Mac last year. If you don't, click the bullet that says "Downoad the support software for this Mac," and you should save all of that to some external source like a flash drive or external hard drive, CD, DVD, something.
3. If you do have an OS X DVD, click that bullet instead.
4. Partition your hard drive. It may sound intimidating but all it means is divide the space according to how much you want to give Windows and how much you want to leave for Mac OS X. Dividing in half is usually the easiest way so click "Divide Equally."
5. Click Continue and when you are prompted, insert the Windows DVD and click Start Installation.
6. When the Windows Installer prompts you to select a place to install, click on the partition of the hard drive that says "BOOTCAMP" and click Drive Options > Format so Windows can install correctly. It will tell you it won't be able to install at first, but when you click Format under Drive Options, it will be able to.
7. Proceed with the Windows installation. When it has to restart, hold down the Option key as your computer turns on and select the hard drive that says "Windows," NOT the CD/DVD icon that says "Windows".
8. Continue with the installation. When it is done, you can insert your Mac OS X DVD (on Windows) and install the Boot Camp drivers, or if you saved it to an external source, connect it that way and install.
9. To change between operating systems, just restart the computer while holding down the Option key and when the menu appears, double click on the OS you'd like to start up with.

Help and advice on updating firmware.

On my N900 the firmware is showing as 2.2009.51-1.205.1
I'm based in the UK and I'm on the Vodafone network, the phone was supplied by Vodafone.
I have been trying to update but every time I check for software updates it shows none are available, when I connect via NSU it says that I have the latest version.
It show on here that the Latest software release for Nokia N900 is 10.2010.19-1 *.
I can't access OVI store as it keeps telling me to update my firmware but then my N900 says its up to date. I'm going round in circles!
What's the best action to take please?

you need to flash your device to update but it will void your warrenty with vodafone and you need to back everything up as you will lose everything

I'm not a real web designer but over the last few years I've taught myself how to make web pages & do some coding so that I can make basic sites & galleries for me & my girls...
Well I've just realized what a huge collection of movies we've got now, and I've started putting them on to web pages - they are WMV...
But half the time they don't work, especially on a MAC ect...
Then i came across this blog at Lady Sonia dot net and all her movie clips work perfectly, all on the same page, and when i right-clicked them they say
'about adobe flash player 10'
So my question is would anyone be kind enuff to tell me how I can change all our wmv movie clips into whatever they need to be so they work like that???
or maybe someone does that kind of job and i could pay sum1 to do them for me???!!! lol
I doubt anyone wants to do that lol so in that case would anyone point me to the help page I need to read for this exact issue, because I have tried F1 as many people on here say and it took me to firefox and was no help at all, i've been searching flash help sites all night and i have no idea what i'm reading its soooo confusing, so if anyone knows a place they can point me to that would be really great!

Ok the code is pasted below, but what i actually did was in dreamweaver

but that didnt work, so i tried
insert media > insert plugin > insert the FLV movie clip
but it says
'unable to find the plugin that handles this type of media'
altho i now have 2 clips playing automatically!!!

ITunes folder corrupted - advice needed please!

Hi, I have had problems with iTunes breaking songs and losing album artwork for several months now and I have come to the conclusion that I must delete the 'iTunes' folder in 'My Music' (I have tried much else to no avail). I am almost 100% certain that is the route of the corruption. The problem is, although I can put up with losing my playlists and play counts, I have an iPhone and obviously need to retain its settings and apps. Is there a way that I can go about deleting this folder, while retaining these things?

Seems like noone has the answer about corrupted files - iTune creates a real mess in organising music files you have collected - I believe it is iTune the cause of all corruption problem with your music folder (iTune shoud never organise anything on a windows platform) - if you have found a solution to access the corrupted folder and recover all files I am interested - then adios iTune - don't want to use it anymore - liked it - now despise it
