Help Apache not working since 10.4.10 upgrade

Hello
I have web sharing turned on and I run a small web page on my mac to host photos and such. It was working great until I upgraded to 10.4.10. Now nothing will connect to my web server at all. I have a power PC mac. When I turn on web sharing on my wife's Intel iMac it works fine (i see the apache splash page). Does anyone know what could be broken in 10.4.10? I've tried to restart the web server a few times (it goes on and off but nothing can connect to it).

I'm a little embarrassed. FIOS happened to change my IP address (after having it be static for over 3 months) at the exact time I updated to 10.4.10. All I had to do was update my DNS entry and all worked fine. It was tough to figure out because I redirect to 8080 to get around FIOS's residential service blocking port 80 (which Comcast never did, also I had the same exact IP address with comcast for 4 years despite it being "dynamic"). I thought I was having Apache problems, then I thought it was PHP. It ended up being quite a simple problem. Thanks for your help all.

The only way to 10.10.1 or earlier is if you have a TM backup from that point in time.

Node.js: running "npm help term " not working since upgrade to 0.8.3

Running
npm help <command>
usually displays npm's man page on <command>. And if the the command doesn't exist, npm will show a "top hits" list of related commands.
But since upgrading to 0.8.3, running it will always show the "top hits" list, even for existing commands.
After digging around I found that the problem is the man files that npm uses in /usr/lib/node_modules/npm/man are gzipped (with filenames like install.1.gz) which breaks npm since npm is expecting ungizipped filenames.
After further digging, it seems that the gzipping of npm's man pages was only added in node 0.8.2-2
So, basically just checking if anyone has this same problem (and confirming it's not a problem with upstream) before submitting it to bugs.archlinux.org

The man command should handle gzipped or non-zipped man pages just fine. I'm not sure if there is an official standard, but packages are free to use gz'ed or non-zipped man pages - they both work just fine. If it's not an official standard recommendation, though, gzipped man pages have become so common that they are almost a 'de facto' standard. But package managers (at least pacman) do not gzip the man pages. This is generally handled upstream or in the packages Makefile.
But, more to the point for the present issue, while man can open either format of page, if you give a full path, you must include the extension. Example:
$pacman -Ql bash | grep man
bash /usr/share/man/
bash /usr/share/man/man1/
bash /usr/share/man/man1/bash.1.gz
bash /usr/share/man/man1/bashbug.1.gz
$ man bash #works
$ man /usr/share/man/man1/bash.1.gz #works

No manual entry for /usr/share/man/man1/bash.1
.... er ... I just installed this again and did some tinkering. Most of what I've said is true (and perhaps someday useful) but currently irrelevant. Npm does not use `man` at all. It just echo's it's help information directly to the terminal.
Perhaps the syntax has changed since the last version you used, but it seems to be doing just what it is supposed to:
$ npm help

Note in the first output it specifies that "npm help <term>" is only supposed to search for the term and return the top-listing list while "npm <command> -h" is the syntax to view the help information for a given command.

Phone not working since 5.1.1 Upgrade

I received my Iphone as a gift 2 months ago. It was bought in China from an official Apple store. I then went to my local service provider and received a micro-sim on a pay-as-you-go deal. Phone worked perfectly for 2 and half months. I did the 5.1.1 update two nights ago and now the phone is saying:
"Only compatible sim cards from a supported carrier may be used to activate iPhone. Please insert the sim card that came with your iPhone or visit a supported carrier store to receive a replacement sim card."
I visited both VODACOM (in South Africa) and IStore (3rd party retailer of APPLE as there is NO Apple store in Africa). I put in the original AT&T sim, the phone switched on and recognises me but obviously there is no service because AT&T is not in South Africa. I then put in my Vodacom sim and it rejects it. I used the phone perfectly for 2+months and since the update this problem occured.
Help.

HI. If you read the question properly ... You will read that the phone was purchased from an official Apple store in China! I live in South Africa and no where on the African continent is there an official Apple store. So the phone is NOT a reject or hacked phone.
BUt it could have possibly reverted to an AT&T lock even though I never had to unlock it!!! It worked perfectly until I did the 5.1.1 update

Internet Sharing not working since 10.6.6 upgrade

Hi all. Hopefully someone can help me as I've been racking my brains on this one.
I originally had Internet Sharing setup from ethernet cable to airport and working perfectly. I could then access the internet wirelessly using my iphone and mac book.
Since upgrading to 10.6.6 (at least I think so) it has stopped working.
Internet is working perfectly on mac mini and other devices can access the internet through working wireless modem downstairs. I need to turn on Internet sharing through the mac mini so that we have internet on the 3rd floor of our townhouse.
I've tried switching off Internet Sharing, then restarting the computer, turning it on again and switching on internet sharing with a different network name, password, channel etc. Nothing seems to get it working again.
I've emptied the trash (200,000 files which is a bit of a worry) and repaired permissions.
Any suggestions would be a great help.

In a hotel with wired Ethernet to my MacBook Pro. Once I enable Internet Sharing, the Pro's Internet connectivity goes down. Looks like I get two "default" routes. I can connect my iPhone4 fine to the WiFi created, with WEP enabled; that's not my problem.

HP Apps Not Working Since Win 8.1 Upgrade

Just trying to run my Officejet 8600 via WiFi using the HP Scan and Capture, and HP AiO Printer Remote apps.
I was able to use them successfully before the upgrade to Windows 8.1, but now the apps just launch, and then indefinitely do nothing. The icons appear in my dock, but when clicked just trigger the animation of a window opening that then immediately disappears.
I did a series of maneuvres in command prompt to enable SOME apps to work after the OS upgrade, but apparently that hasn't fixed either of my two HP applications.
I see lots of people just saying "Help, oh no, my printer won't work" while providing little to no explanation of their problem. Hopefully this is enough to get somewhere? Any advice is welcome.
I'm running a desktop PC that I put together in 2012: Asus motherboard, >3ghz AMD cpu, 16gig ram, Nvidia graphics, solid state HD, so I doubt I have a hardware problem.
Of course, I could just use a USB drive for scanning, but it really frustrates me that the features for which I specifically picked this printer suddenly won't work. And I don't even know if one can print from USB, but that's more trouble than I'm willing to go through on a regular basis. I assume I'd at least have to PDF everything first... no thanks.
Please help! Happy to troubleshoot or provide more information as necessary.

Have you tried uninstalling the store apps and reinstalling them? If you have trouble uninstalling, you can refer to this article

You can then reinstall HP AiO Remote and HP Scan and Capture from the Windows Store.

Mail not working since iOS 8.2 upgrade

hi - my Mail has stopped downloading to my iPhone 5 mailbox since I uograded to IOS 8.2.
I had a similar issue with 8.02 however that fixed itself after a few days, however whatever I have tried (reinstalling myail account, rebooting the phone) it is still now working.
Does does anybody have and suggestions on how to fix?

Ipod touch 16Gb not working since installing recent O4 upgrade

My Ipod touch 16GB has died !! It stopped during the update when an error message appeared stating unable to SYNC IPOD. Now all I have is a black screen with the Apple Logo, and then a bar appears across the screen underneath the logo as if its trying to install software and show amount of time left. This goes on and on until the battery goes flat !!! Help please

Am not sure about an old product but yea i once went to get my earbuds replaced under warranty priod. There was some trouble with it and they replaced it. I asked the guy to give me the other earplugs with mic and i can pay the difference. They told that they can only replace the same product even if you have to pay or not.
May be an apple policy or Imagine own policy but that's what I think we can avail being apple users in India. Check for good places who repair iPod as am sure some do. No offence but I can take the chance of getting my ipod repaired from a third party after using it for a substancial amount of time. We all know its our inner feeling and warranty policies which normally hinders us.
But surely you can call Apple support at 18004250744 or Apple sales 1800 425 4646 and confirm about this policy. Also, you can mail Apple directly and check.
Rest if you want to stick to Apple reseller support itself then i would suggest to add a few more to that $230 amount and get the latest iTouch which now comes even in white and has innumerable new features. But never pay such a hefty amount and get the 1st gen itself.

IChat av video not working since 10.4.2 upgrade

I was on panther and my iChat and iSight were working fine with video conference with my mother or my sister - i recently upgrade to 10.4.2 and now when i try to invite one of them or either of them i get a message that the video chat disconnected because there is no video from the camera - i have tried 2 different camera and cables and still get the same ...??? any advice?

I had the 'camera is in use by another application' message using my firewire DV camera. After searching around for sugestions, here's what worked for me:
1) repair disk permissions using disk utility
2) locate and delete all quicktime *.plist files ([account-name]/Library/Preferences/
3) delete quicktime 7.0.2
4)empty trash
5)download quicktime from apple
6)reinstall quicktime
7)restart computer
8) repair disk persmissions again (for good luck)
after i took these steps my firewire camera worked with iChatAV
good luck.

Touchpad scrolling not working since v16.0.2 upgrade.... All other Windows apps are fine. Scrolling even works in Acrobat Reader plug-in within Firefox.

Tried rolling back to a previous version to no avail. Seems the new version has made some permanent changes to the system.

IChat Video Not Working since PSP3 bought!!

ichat video not working since I bought and installed a new Playstation 3. I have a BT HUB that connects wirelessly with the imac. I have BT Vision running from the HUB too via ethernet wall boost adapters. I had this problem with video when i installed the BT Vision. And turned out to be something to do with Application Sharing settings on the HUB. I resolved it by correctly sharing AIM TALK with my wireless imac. Now the same problem has arisen since the psp3 was put on. But even with all the things I've tried I am stuck as how to get the video up and running as before. The devices running off the hub include:
1. imac (wireless via Airport Extreme)
2. BT Vision via ethernet and wall adaptors
3. iPod touch via wireless
4. PSP3 via wireless plug and play
I have checked all the ip address for these devices and have enabled app sharing for the imac wireless to AIM TALK in BT HUB manager. I have also opened my firewalls; changed the port setting to 443 in ichat preferences; re-set the HUB/Router;
Is there anything else I can do or check? As I said it worked perfectly before the psp3 went onto the
network. Should i assign AIM TALK to the imac wireless or to some of the other devices? (though I think I've tried that too!!)
Help would be much appreciated as this is driving me to insanity, if I wasn't there already!!!!

Thomson-Alcetel who make the Speedtouch range make this device for BT.
The Firmware is Thomson-Alcatels with BT Logo-ing.
This Ethernet 3 connection is probably internal.
Have you got System Preferences > Quicktime > Streaming set to 1.5Mbps ?
If not then do and restart iChat to see the new speed.
In Leopard the Automatic setting is read by iChat as 384K.
This may be allowing the PS3 to have too much of the bandwidth.
I or rather my son has a X-Box 360 which can be on-line when I video chat and it works for me, as it does when he uses his PlayStation 3
If the AIM talk setting uses the same port here as it is listed elsewhere then it has only opened/allowed port 5190.
This would have appeared to have been coincidental to any iChat use when you changed it.
Are you not using UPnP in this device ?
Which firmware is it up to ?
Anything above 6.2.2.6 should work.
Anything starting with 6 and containing letters is later.
In the .telephony section does it mention which port are open ?

Drag and Drop not working since last software update - this is occuring on Outlook for the mac and I just tried moving an icon on the doc and the same thing occured. YOu can drag but the items will not drop.

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins and log in as Guest. For instructions, launch the System Preferences application, select Help from the menu bar, and enter “Set up a guest account” (without the quotes) in the search box.
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your personal files or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem(s)?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault in Mac OS X 10.7 or later, then you can’t enable the Guest account. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Be sure your Mac is shut down.
Press the power button.
Immediately after you hear the startup tone, hold the Shift key. The Shift key should be held as soon as possible after the startup tone, but not before the tone.
Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple icon and the progress indicator (looks like a spinning gear).
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem(s)?
After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of steps 1 and 2.

Thanks for that. I did as suggested but when I tried again, it still did not work. Another com.apple.Grab.plist appeared in the Library.

Ever since installing the latest Mac softwear (10.9.4) on my iMac I can no longer print. I receive a message saying:
"Unsupported Operating System. The Intsaller is not compatible with the version of the operating system on your computer. It is compatible with only 10.6 and below. For more information visit www.hp.com"
