HELP! _Application Icon in the trash bin mishap.

Accidentally dropped my FCP 6 app Icon(package) in the trash bin (dont ask), put it back where it belongs and I can no longer open FCP.
I get a basic 'unepectedly quit.." error message.
My FCP studio is an upgrade package, and I cant seem to reinstall the software (install options greyed out).
I already ran FC Rescue to no avail.
What else can I do?
FCP Studio 2
MacOS 10.4.1
MacPro 2x3G quad core,
AJA Kona

But you do have the original installation disks, don't you? Which part of the Installer dialogue is greyed out?

    Hi,
If you have not already I would change the Slide size to something that has a 4:3 Ratio.
The Buddy maybe trying to scroll left and right to see the whole slide although this shoud be controlled at you end.
I would open the Connection Doctor during a Chat  (iChat's Video menu).
Check that both Bit Rates are relatively stable (there is always some variance.)
Anything over 5% particularly if over 500kbps is likely to be causing problems.
You could try limiting the Bandwidth (iChat Menu > Preferences > Video section) to 500kbps at both ends
It may pay to drop to 200kbps as a test.  (you may lose the Side by Side presentation at this speed).

  • I inadvertently deleted and emptied the trash bin on Firefox. I have a MAC OSX-VERSION 10.4.11. How can I re-install the latest version of Firefox that is COMPUTER FRIENDLY for the MAC OSX Version 10.4.11? I appreciate any help.

I inadvertently deleted Firefox and emptied the trash bin. I believe it was version 3.5. I have a MAC OSX 10.4.11. After several futile attemps how can I re-install the latest version of Firefox compatible to my MAC system? Thanks!

As of Firefox 4.0 and newer the Firefox builds from Mozilla requires both Mac OSX 10.'''5'''+ and a Intel.
Either you can use 3.6.19 from http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html
Though for you 3.6.18 will be safe also as 3.6.19 was to workaround a font crashing issue on 10.7 Lion that was not fixed in time on Lion before release. http://releases.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/releases/3.6.18/mac/ and pick your language and download the Firefox 3.6.18.dmg

  • The @ icon above the trash has disappeared.

The @ spring like icon above the trash has disappeared. I was moving something to the trash and I fear I may have moved it down into the trash bin and now I can't find it. Please help!

Neil is right. That icon you accidentally deleted was an url icon. When clicked on your browser would open up and take you to the Apple website. You can bring the icon back just as Neil described. Once there, right mouse on the icon and 'Keep In Dock' should hold it in place.

  • I need to access the trash bin in finder (to find files) on my external drive

the external hard drive i link iphoto to has had an error and basically the iphoto package is hoarding all of my photos so i'm searching everywhere i can to piece back the 1 TB of photos that are gone. data recovery is too expensive from what i have found so i'm left trying to do this! i have another external drive that backs up my entire system on a regular basis throughout the day. i was able to recover the iphoto library from a few months ago before it was deleted (it had been backed up). so i'm only missing a few months of photos now. i was hoping if i could access the trash files (if they're backed up on this drive) that i would find photographs that had been on my desktop and then i'd put in the trash. so i basically want to look in the trash bin that was backed up in several files on this drive (IF that's even possible!) thanks for your help!!!

  • Cannot move files to the trash bin

    Hello,
I recently upgraded from Snow Leopard to Mountain Lion and have since also changed the administrator on our MacBook Pro. My account (formerly the admin) can no longer move files to the trash bin. My wife's account (now admin) has no problem doing so. When I try dragging a file to the trash I get "Finder wants to make changes, type the administrator's name and password to allow this."
Not something I wan't to be doing every time. Please help.
    Thanks,
    the RouleauFamily

Thanks for your reply. The permissions looked fine.
Here is the fix I found at http://www.thexlab.com/faqs/trash.html which worked:
    If the affected account is:
    Then type the Terminal command:
    Your Admin account:
    sudo rm -ri ~/.Trash
    Another user account:
sudo rm -ri /Users/user_name/.Trashwhere user_name is the short name of the affected account.
    Warmly,
    Olivier

I delete e-mail regulary, put iit n the trash and empty the trash bin. Today all of the last two months incoming mail reappered in the inbox. Why, and how do I avoid this?

This is standard guidance, but maybe it will help...
When you have a problem with one particular site, a good "first thing to try" is clearing your Firefox cache and deleting your saved cookies for the site.
    (1) Bypass Firefox's Cache
Use Ctrl+Shift+r to reload the page fresh from the server.
Alternately, you also can clear Firefox's cache completely using:
orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Options > Advanced
On the Network mini-tab > Cached Web Content : "Clear Now"
If you have a large hard drive, this might take a few minutes.
    (2) Remove your Yahoo cookies (save any pending work first). While viewing a page on the site:
    * right-click and choose View Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"
    * Alt+t (open the classic Tools menu) > Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"
This will open a dialog where you can remove the individual cookies.
Then try reloading the page and logging in again. Does it work any better?

  • Can i move the trash bin from the right hand side to the left (i am left handed)

can i move the trash bin from the right hand side to the left

Sorry, but I never use full screen for anything except an occasional web video. These are my Dock settings and the 66 icons on it take up little real estate.
This is what mine looks like, SL version.

  • Cannot empty the trash bin

    Cannot empty the trash bin.

My problem begain after I deleted many two-year old backup files on my WD My Book external disk drive. I received the error -8003 message when I tried to delete a single file or group of files from Trash on the dock on my desktop. I tried most of the methods recommended in this community and other websites (e.g., CNET) -- all to no avail. I also downloaded and tried Trash It which did not work for me.
Someone recommended using the Maintenance application. The app can typically be found in
Finder > Applications > Utilities > Maintenance  (or, Applications > Maintenance).  I opened the app, and following the instructions, did a Verify Disk on the Mac HD drive (my startup drive).  Errors were found by the app and I then, per the instructions, I ran Repair Disk Permissions. It took about one hour to complete the entire operation.
Then, without a Shut Down or a Restart, I opened the Trash icon and all those hundreds of files were gone.  I then tested Trash by chucking a couple of uneeded documents and some photos from the Mac into the Trash and then selected Empty -- viola, no problem in emptying the Trash.
I also used Maintenance>Verify Disk on my WD My Book external disk drive and found it corrupted too. I am presently running Repair Disk Permissions (estimated one hour and 20 minutes) and hope that it solves that drive's problems.
    Good luck to all!

  • I have sent a file to the trash bin. When I come to empty the trash bin everything goes out except this one particular file and I get a note saying the file is 'in use' but it is not. How can I delete this file from trash?

I have a Macbook Pro with OS X Lion 10.7.2. I have sent a work file to the trash bin along with many other files. When I empty the trash this one particular file remains and I get a message that this file is still in use. I have tried returning the file to my documents, opening it, closing it and then sending it to trash and again I try to empty trash but the same message comes up - Q - How can I trash this file permanently?

First just try logging out and back in.  Whatever is holding on to it may not be running after the logout thus freeing it so you can trash it after logging back in.
You might also try Trash It!
Lastly, look at the following for suggestions:

  • How do I restore files to their original location from the trash bin?

I accidentally deleted a large number of files. I was trying to delete a certain type of file from a specific folder, but ended up deleting all of the files of that type from the computer and, worse, from the external hard drive docked on my desktop. We are talking about 6000+ files. I could not in five years manually copy these files back into their original locations. I deleted additional files after this before I realized what was happening, so I've used up my one undo. Is there no way in Mac OS X to automatically restore these files back to their original locations? It's worth noting that I have not emptied the trash bin; the files are all still there, and this is a brand new computer, so Time Machine hasn't been configured (even if it had been, the external hard drive I would have used for back up is the one I would need to be restoring these files to). You would think something like spotlight, so proficient at finding the file types I was looking for, would also be able to put them back to their original locations.

That is a feature available in Windows but not on you Mac. Your only slender hope is Undo, but it only has one go, and you say you've used it.
If the task of relocating them seems impossible, and you say the machine is brand new, then the quickest thing would be to reinstall the OS and start again, as you would not have personalised/changed it much, so soon.
