Help. Arch on T60 has become a displeasure after recent update

Question

So I have a bigger problem that changed from a smaller one.
1 out of 3 times I have restart my laptop to get access to wifi card back. After resuming the computer I get no wifi. "iw dev" and "iwconfig" don't work to manually connect. Sometimes I get "Error: there is no dev". Options and hard switch don't help. Then I was unable to issue "shutdown -h" command. So ugly shutdowns give "Error hdpram not installed".
Old problem -So acpid is finicky on my ThinkPad. Opening and closing my laptop lid multiple times in order to type in my password was routine for me. I liked arch so I stuck with it, without answer.
It would open in 3 different screens. Functional, black gui with mouse, or in command prompt, with I think a suid list.
The last update broke that balance. Now the laptop hinge works fine, but wifi is  more important.
I know what you're thinking, pacman hdpram didn't help.
ak. Aesthetically I also wish the background on the password screen changed back to my desktop bg. Very secure but no thanks, I want my cute puppies back…. and now look, I just installed libre in german. This is almost like a comedy.

Welcome to the forums.
You need to be much clearer and more informative about the issues you are experiencing. I also think it would be best if you concentrated on one thing at a time and then opened other threads later for the other issues.
I'm not surprised if pacman hdpram failed to help as there is no such package and you don't seem to have told it to actually do anything anyway. Did you mean pacman -S hdparm?
If wifi is the main issue, please provide information about that. What card do you have? What are you using to connect? If you are connecting manually, specify the exact commands and the output you get. If you are using something else, see the wiki for instructions on connecting manually to troubleshoot.
Is your system fully up to date?
Which packages were updated in the update you think caused the issue?
Anything in the logs?
