Help! Aspect ratio keeps changing!

Hi Everyone.
I hope you can help me with this, because I'm starting to feel like an idiot.
I've exported a slideshow from iPhoto and want to use it in a DVD. The QT export looks great. It's a 720x480 self-contained file. Yet, when I try to compress to mpeg2, with the same aspect ratio, it gets distorted. Even though the info for the new mpeg2 file says it is 720x480, it clearly is not! The frame is obviously not as wide as the original QT file and many of the pics are squeezed.
Also, if I try bringing the original QT file into DVDSP or FCP, the same thing happens.
Any thoughts? I hope so.
Thanks in advance.
travis

Why do you want to work with the iPad-formatted files?
First, they are mp4 h,264 which FCP will hate. Second, as you note, the aspect ratio is not what you need.
I'd edit the project in a 480 DV NTSC…or maybe a Pro Res sequence.
Good luck.

  • Aspect ratio suddenly changes in LR develop window without user interaction

I imported some Nikon NEF images with sidecar JPEGs using NikonView/NikonTransfer (rotate image turned on). Afterwards I imported the images into Lightroom (copy to new locacation). The LR option "treat JPEG files next to RAW files as seperate" is turned off.
I can see every image with correct orientation in the Lightroom Library.
But for 2 images when I switch to LR Develop the aspect ratio suddenly changes in film strip and large image display. The image is a 2:3 image but in Develop window it is shown as 3:2 image (not rotated but errorneously shrinked/stretched). That is really strange. I did nothing else than switching between Library and Develop! No rotation, no crop, nothing.
I can toggle between Library and Develop window: The image is shown 2:3 in Library and 3:2 in Develop.
This behaviour occurs for 2 images, not for all images.

For some reason it just started to work now. Have no idea what didn't work before.

  • Premiere Pro CC Video Aspect Ratio is changed on render

We have a really weird problem in Premiere. Once you add a few filters and change the scale of a clip and then render it, it changes the aspect ratio.  The aspect ratio has no been changed in scale.  Any ideas?

I'm having a problem that sounds very similar, but I don't understand how you fixed it.  Can you explain further please?  My video looks fine, but when I render there is a small black bar on the right side (but only on the parts that needed rendering), so I'm assuming that must be changing the aspect ratio (the video jumps to the left a little).  I exported the footage without rendering it, but it obviously does that for you upon export and it's on my final video.  I would really appreciate some help if you know how to fix this!  Thanks much!!

  • Aspect ratio has changed

    Hi Guys,
I have two sequences that are a mixture of HD footage and pal DV (720) footage.
The sequences have always played back in the canvas in full screen, but for some reason have started appearing in a 4:3 aspect ratio. Even the HD stuff is in 4:3 but with a mask top and bottom of frame.
I'm not sure what has changed, but would appreciate any information as to how I can restore the original full screen ratio.
    Thanking you,
    Cheers,

    1. Combine all the footage into a DV-PAL sequence (what you've done now, the 16:9 footage will be letterboxed to fit)
    2. Combine all the footage into a 1440x1080i50 sequence (the 16:9 footage will fill the sequence, but the DV footage will be pillarboxed (vertical black bars on both sides to maintain aspect ratio).
    Hi Skalicki,
Thanks very much for replying to my query. I am a little confused here, by "combine all the footage", do you mean start/open a new sequence and set it up as either a DV-PAL or a HD sequence and then re-edit the footage into the new sequence?
    Thanks again,
    Regards,

  • Clips gets distorted (aspect ratio gets changed) when I move them

I am trying to move some clip froms one iMovie project to another. I have copied a bunch of other clips and have had no problems but for some reason I am having a problem with a certain set of clips. When I copy these clips to the other project they are coming out stretched out, as if iMovie is tweaking the aspect ratio.
Any idea what is going on here? I couldn't find anything in Preferences to address this problem.
    Thanks,
    Chris

When you create a new project you get a window asking you what you want to to call it and where you want to save it.
At the bottom of that window is a small arrow pointing to the words Video Format. Click on that small arrow and you get a drop down menu offering you DV, DV Widescreen, and a few others incl. iSight.
You only get the opportunity to select the video format when you first create, and name, a new project.

  • Please help.. hyperlinks keep changing colour

    Please help..
I am working in Iweb 3.0.03 on a macbook (chrome installed)..
When I set the colours of the hyperlinks they are in grey but when I ftp the pages all the browsers change the hyperlink text to red? How can I stop this from happening? I am formatting the colours and on my macbook and everything looks how it should how I upload?
    Could anyone please help..
    Many thanks

Yes, all hyperlinks on every page are meant to be the same colour format.
I use transit as an ftp
I might just change all the colouring to look the same..
    Thanks alot
Are all of the hyperlinks at the left supposed to have the same color format? If so select one, reset all of the colors and click on the Use for New Links on Page button. Then publish your site to a folder on your hard drive and check it locally with your browser to see if the colors are as they should be.
Are you hosting your site at a 3rd party server or on a MobileMe account? If it's a 3rd party hosting server publish to a folder on your hard drive and check the site locally with your browser. If the colors are good then the problem lies in the uploading of the file.
H\how are you uploading the files? With iWeb or a 3rd party FTP client? If it's iWeb try using the free FTP client Cyberduck to upload the site folder and the index.html file.

  • Help-device permissions keep changing

    Hi All,
I am sure this is a simple issue, but let me explain quickly. Solaris 10 X86, Ultra 20, USB to Serial convertor, Serial barcode scanner.
Whan I connect it all together Solaris does just fine in configuring the device and creating link /dev/term/1, but when I change the permissions on the device(crw--w---- root:tty) so that "other" can read the device(crw--w-r-- root:tty) in a minute or 2 it reverts back to (crw--w---- root:tty).
How can I make this permanant?

    For reasons I can't explain.
I have found that it depends on what USB slot the USB to Serial converter is connected to. When I disconnected and placed it in a different USB location the permission on the device where created completely different.
    They are now crw-rw-rw- root:sys.
I started to think I was seeing things, but when I first tested it I must have gotten lucky and selected a port that worked the way I wanted.

  • What is the fix for constarined crop aspect ratio changing when the image is rotated

I've migrated through LR 3, 4 and now 5 up to 5.4. I have been able to set a crop aspect ratio and synch pictures to that ratio as well as other editing selections. When I edit a particular picture and rotate it , the aspect ratio has stayed constant - to the value originally selected.I've never had a problem and it has consistantly worked properly even through last weeks editing activities. Now, when I set aspect ratio and then rotate, the aspect ratio really changes. If I go back and reset aspect ratio and select Done, it seems to be ok. This issue seems to perform wrong with portrait orientation but not in the landscape orientation. I have uninstalled LR, gone through registry cleanup, reinstalled LR, claened up the registry but nothing gets better. I do note that the settings aren't totally removed as the reinstalled software wants to pick up where I left it prior to uninstalling. As best as I can tell, all of my settings and preferences are the same as last week. It works on last weeks folders but not on new ones.
I have now seen many forum write-ups about this problem but have never found any solution. Help - I can't go through life cropping and straightening images sideways.

Here is a thread that I think addresses this problem.  There were MULTIPLE bugs in the crop tool when Lr5.0 came out, probably due to adding the Upright Tool, but they are slowly getting worked out.  Maybe this one will be fixed in Lr 5.5

  • Changing monitor resolution with proper aspect ratio

My project size is 800x600 and I wanted to provide an option to the user to change their monitor resolution at 800x600 by clicking on button. I have also planned to do it by using buddy api xtra, and already tested it. The problem is, when I am doing this on a PC with panoramic monitor (native resolution 1920x1080), it got stretched. I know it's very natural (as the aspect ratio has changed ) and I can get it in shape by squeeze the width using 'draw.rect'.
I noticed, there are some PCs with advanced display card that don't even get stretched, but shows the 800x600 resolution in proper aspect ratio by keeping the extra space black both sides. And I don't need to write any further codes (squeeze the width using 'draw.rect') to keep it in shape.
The real problem starts here, I can't able to filter the above situations by any logical means. I wanted to write codes only for the PCs that get stretched, but I didn't able to find any support from Director to determine which type of display card has been attached. I need to know whether it will get stretched, or the display card can able to manage the aspect ratio.
Any one have any solution in this matter?
Please don't hesitate to ask if you need any more info.

    Hello handler
If you talking about this kind of thing...
    https://forums.adobe.com/message/5773207
    search for.....  _movie.stage.drawRect = _system.deskTopRectList[1]    &    _movie.stage.rect = _system.deskTopRectList[1]
You don't need an xtra to change the resolutions - but you do have to work a few things - I tend to use flash text because it scales better.

  • Changing photo aspect ratio with QT 7 Pro

Can I use QT 7 Pro to change the aspect ratio of my iPhoto pictures so they can be used in HD video?
    David

I guess it would be easyier for me to purchase Graphic Converter to convert all my JPEGs to 16:9 ratio to be used in Final Cut Express.
Again, this depends on what you are looking for in an application. I personally have never used Graphic Converter. If, for instance, it is able to batch process your photos, then it might be worth purchasing if that is what you are primarily interested in. However, any graphic application can change the aspect ratio of your photos—including Preview which, I assume, is already installed on your system. In fact, I recommend you try this work flow with a few sample photos to be sure it is the aspect ratio you really want to change. (I.e., most cameras use a 4:3 or 3:2 aspect ratio and changing the aspect ratio for the frame will introduce a distortion to the photograph subjects.) The more normal approach is to crop the photos to the desired aspect ratio in iPhoto and export the customized photos from iPhoto or import the customized photos directly into the target application.
In any case, simply open one or more photos in Preview, select a photo, open the "Tools>Adjust Size" option, deselect the "Scale proportionately" option, and enter the desired HD dimensions.
    Example... This
    becomes this...
In this case making the subjects appear fatter than the actually are which usually does not go over well with the women in the picture.

  • Render changes aspect ratio

    Hey,
I am cutting a film about the history of cinema where I am using clips from all kinds of movies taking from dvd. Of course they all have different aspect ratios and most of them come in wrong so I change them with the aspect ratio slider. Now here comes the problem...once you change them they obviously need rendering and sometimes some of the clips which I corrected to the right aspect ratio then change back AFTER THE RENDER and are stretched or squachted again.
    Anyone came across this?
    Thanks

If it is to be shown on a high def screen 720x480 wont look any good unless its a dvd and you are able to upscale.
If its a high def projector the projector will still project it as 720x480.
If you want i to look good you need high def footage exported to high def.

  • Viewport Node: Changes Aspect Ratio: Causes Skewing - Why?

    Hello!
I'm trying to create simple zooms on photos and news articles for a documentary. So far, I've been using a Zoom node plugged into a Viewport node, which usually works just fine.
However, on some photos the Viewport script will randomly switch from a 1920x1080 aspect ratio to, e.g. 1919x1080. This causes the rendered Quicktime files to have a "skewed" effect on those random frames where the aspect ratio has changed.
Note: The aspect ratio appears to be changing as I drag the Viewerport node (set at 1920x1080) from one area of the photo to another.
Any suggestions on how to avoid this problem?
    Thanks for your time.
    (Shake 4.1)

I think the problem you are having is because having the Viewport AFTER your
Zoom means that the Viewport is trying to adapt its crop parameters to the zoomed size,
    which isn't working.
Why don't you just use a Viewport node followed by a Scale node?
If your stills are generally larger than the output size (good practice), you could feed the image into a Viewport to fix the size at 1920x1080, THEN use a scale for your zooms and pans.

  • Aspect Ratio in Comp is good, looks bad though

Hello, I'm working in Final Cut Pro (mac). I'm exporting my timeline sequence as 1440x1080i Quicktime Movie using the Apple Intermediate Codec (1.3 Pixel Aspect Ratio). Now I launch After Effects, import this file, from the Bin I drag this file on top of the New Composition Button so it creates a Composition to the same settings as my source file. I go to the Composition Dropdown Menu, click Comp Settings and confirm that I'm at 1080i with a 1.3 pixel Aspect ratio, the lock to 4:3 button is not checked.
Why in After Effects does my video look like Full Screen 4:3 video?
Anyway, I export from After Effect using these settings...
    Under Render Settings:
Under Time Sampling I select 'Lower Field" (for interlaced footage)
    Under Output Module:
I select Format Settings and switch to Apple Intermediate Codec and select HDV 1080i.
Now I import this file into Final Cut Pro and it looks fine except there is a small black border on the right side of my footage, as if a few pixels of black were adopted in this process. Though this bugs me it's not the main problem.
Lastly I send this footage from Final Cut Pro to a color correction program called Color. Color reads all of my clips from Final Cut Pro with no problems, but when i send a clip that came from After Effect, though all of my Comp settings are correct, Color reads the footage as 4:3 Full Screen (just like After Effect previews it). 2 small examples to confirm this last point. If I send 1080i footage from Final Cut Pro into Color, it maintains it's aspect ratio. If I send footage from Final Cut that has been modified in After Effects to Color, it does not maintain it's Aspect Ratio, it changes to 4:3.
I have a feeling this is a long shot, can you see any problems in my workflow? Is there a known issue? Any ideas?
Thanks for your time, i know this was a long one.
    -Monty

Well, your AE thing is easily explained: You are not using the pixel aspect ratio correction for the comp viewer, hence it will look incorrect. As to why it is messed up once you export, I have no clue. I'm using my Mac and in particular FCP way too rarely to be of any help here. I could dare a guess and say there's some Advanced Option in the CoDec somewhere that's responsible for it or an interpretation setting in FCP, but it's really nothing more than a stab in the dark.
