HELP! Asterisk key is stopping playback

Can someone please help me?
I never had this problem with CS4 and lower.
When I am playing ...say an MP3 in Premiere, to set key markers (*) to edit to (in the Source Window)... everytime I hit (*) the playback with stop. I have to hit the play button (or spacebar) to get it to continue.
For most projects, thats ok.... but when editing a music video, and trying to establish beat markers, its almost impossible to do.
Nothing is different about my system, or the type of audio file I typically use.... just CS5.

Using PPro 5.03 in Vista 64 bit, same problem when using source window. But it
works OK when the clip is on the Timeline.

Asterisk key stops audio when trying to add timeline marker PREL8? ??

When I try to add a timeline marker using the asterisk key the audio track stops playing and I have to restart it using the space bar or by pressing play?
Any clues?

Bill, yes I am using the Asterisk key on the numeric key pad with the nums lock on. I know this function works as I have used it before in previous versions. Just not sure if I have used it before in this new installed version of PREL 8.0 that I have.
I have installed the latest updates also.

D key popped out (fixed now) and asterisk key not working

OK- Here is the score: I had a wee accident with the PB- the dog scrapped past the keyboard dislodging the D key which popped up (I thought it was broken- BOY was I upset! Fiddled for hours and found that the wee scissor was OK but popped out... It is OK now) and apparently stopping the asterisk key from working at all.
Looking that the keyboard there is no obvious problem (both affected keys are well reseated) but when you put your nail under the asterisk key and lift it lifts the foil below it slightly. On the other side the equivalent key (left arrow key) does NOT lift the foil at all.
I am wondering- anyone have experience with the keyboard and know how likely it is that this is something which can be fixed? Or is this, in your esteemed experience, something which requires repair or replacement?
Please advise.

Thanks for your answer. I ended up dismantling the keyboard and defluffing it and between tears of frustration managed to place them back in correct working order. None of the wee plastic pins had broken off... SO lucky!

Hope you got sorted as I do not phone Apple- last time I did I spent 1 hour and 40 minutes speaking to seven people in various countries who were ALL unable to help with the issue I had and who just kept fobbing me off to each other. Twice I landed with the the same person (that is 9 times I spoke with different persons).
Most folk would have given up by then but I am a bit of a bulldog on that score. All in all the MOST annoying experience.
And considering that I am in the service trade myself and would fire folk for less it was doubly annoying!
Conclusion? Want something doing? Do it yourself with the help of the wise and kind folk on here!

Stop Playback Looping During Editing

Can't seem to find where to set the loop/don't loop option. At the end of the timeline, the playback goes to the beginning and starts playback again. I want it to stop at the end and not loop (during editing). Can you help me find the setting to stop it from continuing playback from the beginning of the clip (stop playback looping during editing).

There is no direct way to stop playback AT the last Frame.
Does the End key not work on your computer?
Once playback has been stopped, the PageUp and PageDn keys will take you to the first Frame of the last Clip, or to the first Frame of that last Clip. The Cursor keys will also step you, Frame-by-Frame, inside the Clip.

Control Key has stopped functioning

Hi All,
My MBP (early 2009) 17" has just come back from apple after having the motherboard, battery and magsafe port replaced. Unfortunately the ctr key has stopped working, this is osx (10.6.5) and Windoze 7. Does it need to go back to the shop or is there some firmware or software that hasn't been installed after its replaced innards that i can sort out.

2. Reset SMC.     http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
    Choose the method for:
    "Resetting SMC on portables with a battery you should not remove on your own".
If this does not help, contact Apple.

My lenovo G505s shuts down suddenly and key board stops working at times

Hi,
I have bought this laptop 10 days ago, I am facing two problems 1st is, it shuts down(suddenly off not proper shut down) while working without showing any error message, and the problem no 2 is its key board stops working at times, system is working fine but all the buttons of key board are not responding. it will work when I restart the system.
please help what should I do, could it be replaced?

Sorry to hear of your problems. I would suggest that you try a reset of the BIOS just to rule out any hardware conflicts the system may have. Try this........
1. Unplug the charger / adapter.
2. Remove the battery.
3. Press and hold the Power Button for 15 seconds.
4. Re-install the battery, plug in the charger / adapter if needed and power up the system to see if the problem was resolved.
If the problems weren't resolved by doing the reset then I suggest you contact Lenovo Support for warranty service. Both the problems you mentioned could be related to faulty hardware and the service center would be best equipped to check out your new laptop. You can find the phone number for Lenovo Support in your country or area by using the link below....

Single key has stopped working

HI,
the #'s on the right hand side of the keyboard have stopped working, and when you push one of the buttons it brings up a find it search bar on internet explorer or just beeps. I've tried num lock, scroll lock, and keyboard options in the control panel. I don't knw wat else to do.
Can anyone help?

Maybe you have a virus on the computer? You should run your antivirus and search for viruses.
Furthermore if a single key has stopped working you have only one option for repair and this is exchanging the whole keyboard because single keys cant be exchanged.
You can get a new keyboard from an authorized service provider and they can also exchange the keyboard for you. :)

One key has stopped working

Hi, hope someone can help.
The i key has stopped working on my 2011 Macbook Pro. i've tried taking the key off and cleaning underneath, pressing it hard, pressing on the side, tried turning off text to speech...
All the other keys are working fine. Tried to book a genius bar appt but there are none available and i can't afford to pay for tech support!
Any suggestions please?

Hello: I'm getting an audio error message on playback and P Pro CS6 won't stop playback. Have to force quit.
Earlier in the project, I would crash when moving audio up/down tracks or up/down time line.
Any thoughts?

That screenshot will help us figure out what's going wrong, but I won't have any news until at least July 8 because our offices are shut down next week. In the meantime, two suggestions:
Download CC and see if this crash occurs in the new version.
Google cpp-99 premiere pro audio prefetch. I got several hits, but not dig into them to see if any had a solution or workaround.

Applying clip markers in CS6 stops playback

Pressing the 'M' key marks the timeline okay, but how do you mark individual clips on the fly? In timeline, it does not mark clips at all. If I bring the clip into the source view, I can mark with the M key, but it stops playback. It also marks every instance of the clip in the same timeline.

Yes, clip markers are intact with Dynamic Link. Sequence markers are not supported, however. You must import a Premiere Pro project to After Effects for those.

Stop Playback After Current Track

I hate to stop the music in the middle of a track, so i would love some way to make Spotify stop playback after the current track.
Right now I can simulate the desired behaviour by right-clicking an empty playlist, (that i have created for this purpose only) and selecting "Choose as Current Playlist" and making sure that the play queue is empty. While this is a nice workaround, I think that it would make sense to include a real "Stop Playback After Current Track"-function in Spotify.
Update (2015-02-01):
The previously suggested workaround doesn't even work any more as Rapti has pointed out in a comment. At one point it could even make Spotify crash completely.
I would like to point out that a saner, more flexible queuing system could allow even finer control over when to stop playing. Thus people who like this idea might also like:
Make entire play queue editable (I have added my own comment to that idea about how Google Play Music seems to work)

I've also wanted this feature for a long time, and I made a little userscript to do this using the Spotify Play Button. I wrote a blog post about it in Norwegian a couple of minutes ago. Here it is, run through Google Translate. A couple of the translations are a litle corny and weird, but I think you'll get the point, though. How do I mark and play audio clips simultaneously without stopping playback in the source window?

I do a lot of editing to music and I liked the function of being able to mark audio clips by tapping M while the song was playing. I was able to do this in CS4. When I upgraded to CS6 qnd I pressed the m key it would leave a marker but stop playback. Any idea how to customize this would be greatly appreciated.

Shift key just stopped working...

both of my shift keys have stopped working. they are working sporadically, and i'm not sure what happened. i was typing and suddenly my shift button would not work. i know i didn't hit some sort of hot key to disable the shift function, and it seems that the buttons will randomly work or not work, without hitting anything. is it possible that i have disabled them, or that there is a bug in my computer that is causing this to happen [i hope not, as the guy taht sold me my computer told me not to buy virus protection]. any help would be greatly appreciated, and i'm sorry for the all-lowercase post.

Stuck notes after stopping playback

Hello,
I'm having a problem whereby after stopping playback, the currently playing notes are stuck (sustain indefinitely). I find notes always stick, whether hitting the space bar or clicking the stop icon.
- I'm using Logic 9.0.2 with default settings on Snow Leopard 10.6.1.
- My audio interface is an Edirol FA-101.
- My controller is a Yamaha Motif via the Yamaha USB MIDI driver 1.2.
I thought perhaps it was the MIDI driver (not officially supported on Snow Leopard), so I uninstalled it and switched to my Edirol UM-880, with new 1.0 Snow Leopard driver.
Now I get the same problem with the space bar, but the stop icon works most of the time, but not always!
What is going on?!

In Logic try going to "Preferences": "Midi": "Reset Messages": and tick the first box "Control 123 (All Notes Off)". That should stop the notes hanging every time you hit stop. I have the same problem with a Motif XS Rack. I find that also ticking the bottom option "Send Used Instrument Settings on Reset" helps keep Logic playing the correct sound on the Motif (assuming you are using Midi Patch/Bank messages to select individual sounds. Hope this helps.

"'", "M", "J", "U", "7" keys randomly stop responding temporarily

Hi,
I just bought a new Macbook Pro, 2.0ghz, 1 gig ram, 100 gig hd, and I've found that the ',m,j,u, and 7 keys often stop responding. I'm using the 10.4.7 update.
Is this common at all, and if so is there a way to fix it? Non of the other keys seem to have an issue, so i'm not sure if it's a hardware or a software issue.

That fact that it happened when you were re-installing may just be an unhappy coincidence.
This iBook will not be in warranty for this sort of thing, unfortunately. You can try sourcing a replacement keyboard assembly from eBay or from places such as:

They have no stock at the moment (I just cruised that link), but it's a good place to start. Googling for the part may also help.
The keyboard is easily replaced. Your iBook owner's manual should have sufficient information for this, otherwise try:
