Help, Audio Import problem

I'm using FCE HD 3 and importing mpg files.
When they appear in my bin all I have is the video.
When I play them through the quicktime player I have video and audio.
There must be a setting in FCE that I'm missing.

You will have to be more specific about the files you are trying to import. Which version of MPEG? What was the source of the video files? Just because you can play them in QuickTime Player doesn't mean you can edit them in FCE.
FCE-HD 3 is a DV and HDV application. If you are trying to edit MPEG files (probably MPEG-2) you really ought to convert them to DV before you import them into FCE. Most people in this forum seem to like MPEG Streamclip to do that conversion. It's free, but if you do not already have the QuickTime MPEG2 Playback Component on your Mac you will need to purchase it from Apple (currently $19.99).

  • Audio import problems !!

    Recently had upgraded to iLife 6, and began to import analog VHS tapes through my VCR using a FORMAC Studio External Converter that I bought four years ago (when I was producing video tapes for a family project). I have not tried using iMovie, since version 4. I have had difficulty importing into iMovieHD6...the audio and video show up nicely in the iMovie viewscreen while recording with the FORMAC unit, however, when I played back my recorded clips, there is an annoying hum and audio feedback that is horrendous. I have tried all permutations without success.
    My current system is 10.3.9 on a G4 tower. I have tried importing, using my new laptop, with Tiger, and the same results occur. While watching the imported clips during the recording phase, the sound through my speakers is crystal clear, however when the clips are played, there is interference.
    Is there some function I am unaware of, to help clean this up? Why is this occurring? I do not recall this being the problem with imports in the past. This over occurred different input venues.. i.e. with a VCR, playing home movies, as well as using a DVD player and DVD recording (this was a professional DVD - not studio DVD - of my son's graduation, and I wanted to record his speech to his class). The same interference occured, only on playback. Will this sound disappear when exporting to iDVD?
    My goal was to convert these tapes I had, into a DVD I could share with my family members.

    Welcome to iMovie Discussions..
    I think your problem is an old one; the Formac converters needed updating to match the most recent iMovie versions ..there was a lot of discussion about this a year or two ago.
    Some models could be 'flash' upgraded via a download, and older models couldn't. Check Formac's website and see if there's a downloadable upgrade available for your particular unit.
    I don't own, and have never used, a Formac, so I can't help you more, but maybe there's still some discussion about this over on the "iMovie 4 and Earlier" section. (..Sorry I can't provide a link just now, but it seems to be down for maintenance while I write this ..probably up again by the time you read this, though..)

  • Please HELP - Strange importing problems

    If anyone can help me I would greatly appreciate it.
    I already went through all of the support articles on importing for WinXP so I'm not sure what else to do.
    My itunes will show the track titles and everything correctly, but when I try to play the tracks, the speaker that represents if a track is playing goes down the list of tracks very fast and doesnt actually play any of the songs.
    When I import the songs, they all have a length of the ENTIRE length of the album, like 787:16 or something like that.

  • Audio importing problem

    Hi.
    I'm using a DAC-100 analog-to-digital converter to record from a VHS tape and cannot get any audio in the iMovie 08 import window. I'm using RCA cables in and firewire out. Odd thing is after importing a sample chunk I can play it back and lo and behold the audio is there! Would be nicer to hear the audio so I know what I'm importing, but I cannot seem to find a way to hear it during import. Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks

    You said "there is no audio on import..." so is that the last word on the subject as far as Apple is concerned, i.e. it's the way iMovie was designed, and it won't change?
    It is the current word as far as iMovie '08 is concerned. Remember, only DV import even has the capability to monitor the audio and/or video during capture and even then there is a slight time difference between the pre-converted input and the post-converted arrival as digital on your computer. If monitoring is of such great importance to you, why not use iMovie HD to do the importing or a dedicated capture application like Vidi (free). Both have the ability monitor the A/V a it is imported/saved to your hard drive. Once saved to you hard drive it can be edited in any Apple or third-party editor, played immediately in the QT Player, or sent directly to iDVD for burning if no editing is required.
    Do you foresee Apple fixing this?
    There is always a possibility that Apple might relent here, but it is not probably that they will allow you to monitor DV capture but not HDV, AVCHD, or MPEG-2 since these other formats must process the audio and video streams of data separately. It is only because the DV audio and video data is "captured" in parallel on a "frame-by-frame" basis that it is possible to monitor the two simultaneously with nothing but a slight time delay between input and output. To do this in iMovie '08 means having to have a separate import routine for DV incorporating this capability. Unfortunately, most programmers try to eliminate redundant processes where possible for efficiency. Besides, you can always monitor the input side of things just as easily as the output -- i.e., run your VHS tape either through/in parallel with an AV amplifier/receiver to the DAC to the computer.

  • PLEASE HELP, AUDIO INTERFACE PROBLEMS

    hi, i just got a new macbook and logic express 7. i also just uploaded something for this audio interface iv got, the tascam US122. but it is not recognising it. the light for phantom power comes on if i plug the usb cable into my mac from the tascam but it doesnt come up anywhere on my mac to say that it has recognised it. if you could help pleeease do.
    thanks

    Hi,
    The Tascam US122 is no longer a supported device. Try to go to the Tascam website, and see if they do have a driver that can run in your particular Mac.
    If not, then you're S.O.L.
    Cheers

  • Audio sync problem with videos imported from iPod Touch

    I have an iPod Touch 4th Generation that I used to shoot video at a family birthday party. When I imported the footage into iMovie '11, the audio is not in sync with the video (video is about two seconds behind audio) and there is only the left channel of audio. I verified that the video on the iPod plays just fine--no audio sync problem, both left and right channels work. I just upgraded to iOS 5 on the iPod Touch. The iMac is running Snow Leopard 10.6.8.
    As a workaround, I can import the video into iPhoto instead. When I play the video in iPhoto, there are no audio sync problems and both channels of audio can be heard. I have imported other iPod Touch videos successfully into iMovie '11 in the past few months, but this has been the first time these problems have occurred. Any help would be appreciated.

    Premiere cannot handle clips with variable framerate.
    Your converted clips need to have constant framerate.
    Otherwise use a converter like Handbrake.

  • Audio Clip problem plz help..

    There is some problem with my code. It is actually for simply playing a wav file.
    It gives errors on two lines....
    import java.awt.*;
    import java.awt.event.*;
    import java.io.*;
    import javax.swing.*;
    public class MediaPlayerDemo extends JFrame
         AudioClip clip; //Error Here
         public MediaPlayerDemo(String title)
              super(title);
         clip = getAudioClip(getCodeBase(),"access.wav"); //Error Here
         clip.loop();
         public static void main(String args[])
              MediaPlayerDemo m = new MediaPlayerDemo("Title");
              m.setSize(400,400);
              m.setVisible(true);
    }

    "Audio Clip problem plz help"
    You have to learn to help yourself.
    Have you done anything to try to fix the errors yourself?
    AudioClip clip; //Error Here
    the error generated here is self-explanatory.
    if you can't fix this, you should get a good book on java basics and start again.
    the other error is also easy to fix.

  • Same Old Import Problem

    I've put this thread up ages ago but I still have the problem and I am hoping someon e might justr be able to help. This is the problem: I cannot import audio into AU1.5. I can record in real time but can't use the Audio/Import action in the program. I get the attached error message. I ahve gone through all the settings and checked them with another computer that imports with no problems whatsoever and everything seems to match up.
    Here is what I am using: A Dell Inspiron Lapton 1300; an external DVD drive LITEON EZ-DUB; an external Audio card - USB 7.1 CH3D. I only put the external audio card in in case the problem was with the built in audio card on the laptop's motherboard but it doesn't make any difference.
    I am nearly losing what little hair I have left on this one and would really appreciate some feedback
    Many thanks

    None of the actual FAQs are lost  - they are all on the AudioMasters forum (except the ones I haven't finished editing yet, which is about three of them). But I don't recall seeing one about this, I have to say. The closest I can get (and this may be relevant, because I don't think it affects just ripping) is this one.

  • Imovie Mac importing problem or Camcorder problem?

    I run a small business for kids parties. I video the kids dancing along to a track they have recorded (played on a cd player). Then i import the video, turn off the camcorder sound and import the finished mixed track of their singing and sync the picture and audio together. This has been working perfectly for over a year. But unfortunately in the last month when i try to sync up the audio track with the video, it starts off synced up perfectly, but gradually as the video goes on the video and audio become out of sync and by the end the video is either too fast or too slow. this is a huge problem! I thought it may the tapes in the video camera so i changed them and it's still doing it. Is this a video camera problem or computer importing problem. Can anyone help as it's ruining the kids DVDs!

    I am surprised it has ever worked. That can normally only be done with synched professional equipment. Maybe they changed the CD player at the performance and the old one happened to play at the same rate as your Mac when it imports? (There is a slight difference between the playback speed between different players)
    Or perhaps your video camera has become slightly worn, so it pulls the tape slower?
    There are endless possibilities for problems with your setup.
    I think you should take a look at the "add scaled" tip at the bottom here:
    http://danslagle.dvmix.com/mac/iMovie/audio/1001.shtml
    (Instead of adding the extracted audio from iMovie, you should add the CD audio.)

  • XML Premiere 5.5 to FCP7 Import problem

    I am working with an outside editor who did some edits for my company in Premiere 5.5.
    They're  tryng to supply me with a FCP7 compatible XML file for import into FCP7.
    Well I am able to convert the XML file in FCP7, but not all of the info is coming thropugh properly.
    The edit is a simple one...
    2 camera A/B talking head
    1 Main Audio track whihc is done as 4 audio (2 stereo) tracks in Premiere.
    The edit supplied to me comes through with the video being fine on 2 tracks.
    However, the audio track does not even show up in my timeline.  However it's there on his Premiere timeline.
    Any idea what might be the problem?
    I have supplied pics of both timelines for reference.
    One is his Premiere timeline, the other is my FCP7 timeline after XML conversion.
    Premiere timeline with 2 videos tracks and 4 audio tracks.
    FCP7 timeline with 2 video tracks and only 2 audio tacks sowing up.
    Where is the other audio track.

    Jeff,
    Thanks for your advice, the use of the UT Video Codec Suite has been exceedingly helpful in capturing video. It has made 1080i capture much simpler.
    Unfortunately it has not solved my 720p import problems.
    I have played around with several different configurations. If I record 720p at 29.97 frames, the whole video imports without difficulty, but the sound is messed up. But when I try to import 720p video at 59.94 frames, Premiere Pro will only import the first couple of minutes of the video if the video is longer than 7 minutes.
    If you have any further advice, I would appreciate it.
    Kerry

  • No audio imported

    Am using Trial PRE9 on WinXP.  Have imported from folder (originally flash memory) into organizer, then into project.  Some AVI files paste in fine, others without audio, intermittent problems.  Audio plays find in organizer.  Again, some clips from SAME shooting session and on SAME project playback fine.  On the timeline, I can see that the audio didn't come in from organizer pull.... ?

    It looks like that camcorder shoots in a variety of modes and resolutions, including 1080p and 1080i.
    Unfortunately, none of the specs indicate which codec they record to (There's no indication that it shoots in the AVCHD standard), so I can't promise that this video will work properly in Premiere Elements or even suggest a direction for you.
    All I can say is that you'll need to experiment with a number of project settings. If possible, you want your project set up so that, when you place a clip on your timeline, there is no red line above it.
    Sorry I can't be of more help. Some of these under-$300 HD camcorders use their own proprietary codecs and sometimes will only work with the editing software that came bundled with it!
    EDIT
    Apparently the camcorder does come included with with owns editing software as well as something called an ArcSoft Converter. If this converter will converter your video to a more standard format, that may be the key to getting it to work with Premiere Elements.

  • Audio repetition problems

    Anyone help with some audio repitition problems?
    I am importing some .mov files taken with a Canon 5D in Premiere Elements 10.  They are all fine when viewed in quicktime on my mac.
    When imported into premier elements about half way through each clip the audio suddenly reverts back to the start of the clip.  I have found no way to get the missing audio back (but I know its there from the quicktime viewing).
    Is this an import problem?  Any ideas on if I need to change a audio preferences setting?
    Many thanks for any help.

    There is absolutely no reason you should be having this issue, considering these specs, rm. The only bottleneck may be your external hard drive -- but I edit from my external to my iMac with no problems. Is your USB plugged into a dedicated port on your CPU or is it sharing a port (ie., plugged into the multiple jack or the side of your keyboard)?
    But try shooting some sample footage and using Premiere Elements' Video Importer to download the footage from the camera to see if it makes a difference.
    Also try putting the footage and your project file on your Mac's hard drive and working with it and see if still bogs down. If it doesn't, you know it's the external drive that's the problem.
