Help! Audiobook will not play on iPhone 4s

I just purchased an audiobook in iTunes on my phone.  I've been able to find the book on my phone but it will not play. When I click on the 1st track to start the book it just jumps to the next one and then back to the main screen without doing anything else.  I have also synced the phone with my computer. It will play on my laptop but NOT MY PHONE.
This whole thing is just ridiculous. If I pay for something I want to be able to use it. Is there a way to fix this problem or to get a refund?
thanks

The first thing I would try is resetting the iPhone.  Hold the home and power buttons together for 6 or 7 seconds till the Apple logo appears.
If that solves the problem, great.  If not, the second thing I would try is re-synching the iPhone 5 using iTunes.

  • Video will not play on iPhone 3GS but plays on old edge iPhone

I apologize if this has already been answered, I looked several pages deep and did a search and found nothing that helped.
I synched my new iPhone 3GS (version 3.2.1) and added movies but they will not play, only the audio works. I can play them on my computer on iTunes and I can play them on my old iPhone (edge), but not on the new one.
Usually I see a block of green, and sometimes it is just black.
I am able to play YouTube videos in Safari.
I have tried the advance option to convert video to iPod or iPhone and it says it is already in the correct format. I have tried everything I could find in the forum and nothing.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks in advance

Hi I have the same problem and have found no solution - did you get anywhere it's driving me nuts!

  • Certain songs will not play on iPhone and also not in my iTunes library

My problem is that songs will not play on my iPhone that I have purchased and appear like this...
These songs also do not appear in my iTunes library and when I look at the album (or other songs with this problem) in the iTunes Store it appeaers like this...
As you can see it says "purchased" where it would usually say "play"
It'd be great if someone could help as I am completely baffled.
    Thanks.

In settings on your phone:   iTunes and App store - is "show all music" off?   Is automatic downloads off?
Do you share the computer with other Apple users?   Is it currently associated with another Apple ID?
The work around is open iTunes purchases on your phone and download directly to your phone that way.

  • Audiobook will not play!

Audiobook from iTunes Store will not play with itunes, quicktimeplayer or iphone. The time count down, but i can't hear anything. What should i do?

Make a playlist for the Audiobook and play it from there. The playlist should move from one track/chapter straight to the next one. I even make mine smart playlists (album name=x, playcount=0). That way, when I've listened to a track/chapter, it drops off of my smart playlist. When I come back to the playlist later, I know that i can always start at the top.

  • Music not purchased from iTunes will not play on iPhone after iOS5 update

Music that I have purchased from iTunes syncs perfectly to the iPhone (3GS) but the music from my library that was not purchased from iTunes (burned from a CD) will show up in the iPhone music list but does not have any artwork nor will it play that music!  Currently my solution has been to delete the defunct music from the iPhone and recopy it from iTunes.  The music will then play but the artwork is missing.  This is a rather irritating problem.  Is anyone else having this issue?  If so, any are any other solutions?  Thanks!

I have just noticed that I am missing songs since I upgraded to iOS5.  In some cases the art work is there and the length of the song is there but it will not play.  I'm going to try and resync when I get home.  I'll have to check to see if the songs still exist in my iTunes???  Nothing is ever easy is it??

  • HT204074 I see a song in my purchased folder but will not play on iphone after it is synced

I see a song that I purchased from itunes store and is in my purchased folder but will not sync to my phone.  it has a greyed out hollow circle next to it and it will not play on phone.

In your summary page scroll all the way down to the bottom and make sure "sync only checked songs and vidoes" is NOT checked. Then go to your music tab to the right of the summary and uncheck music> apply> sync> Re-check sync music> apply> sync.
    Hope this helps!!!

  • Some iTunes purchased songs will not play on iPhone.

Some of my songs that I have purchased from iTunes will not play on my iPhone but will play on my MacBook Pro and iPad - what can I do to fix this.  This problem has been happening for around a week now.  At first it was 1-2 songs but now in a playlist of around 80 songs approximately 1/4 of the songs will not play.  When the song comes up next in the playlist it will not only skip that song but will also skip past 1-2 other songs.

    Hey brewmaster1967,
Does this happen with any other purchased content? Download some of the free on iTunes store songs.
Deauthorize the computer and play/authorize the song in iTunes again.

    Try re-creating the iTunes Library.

  • Music appears grey with a sync symbol on iPhone 4 (iOS 6.0.1) on iTunes (newest version as of 11/20/2012) and will not play on iPhone. It is set to manually manage music.

So I got a brand new iPhone 4 from a Sprint retailer, and it came with the software that was available at the time of the release. I left it that way for a while and put music on it through iTunes (latest version as of 11/20/2012) with no problems. Then I updated the software on the iPhone to iOS6.0.1 and when i tried to put music on it through iTunes like normal the songs showed up in the library of the iPhone (still on the computer) however they were grey and they had a syncing symbol to the left as if it were still syncing the music. I waited and waited but it would not go away. then I clicked the arrow at the middle top of iTunes where it shows you what song is playing and everything else iTunes is doing, and it did not say that it was syncing the music like normal. Basically the library indicated the music was still syncing but iTunes was not putting it on. I currently have it set to manually manage music. I do not want to switch it to automatically sync or reset my iPhone because I will lose my information. Any immediate help would be greatly appreciated!

When I went to restore my phone, I may have found the cause of these problems. I never deleted all of my original synced songs before enabling iTunes Match.
When I just went to do the restore, I figured I'd delete all of my songs, then disable iTunes Match. After deleting about 3.5 GB of music and disabling iTunes Match, I ran the sync to backup my iPhone. It said there was still 2.2 GB of music. I checked my phone just in case and there was 2.2 GB there, probably the original synced songs that I never removed.
Anyway, I'm doing the restore now just in case and will respond tomorrow with how everything is working.

  • Help videos will not play in iphoto

I used to be able to play videos that I downloaded from my camera onto iphoto, but now I get an error that says The document “CIMG0762.AVI” could not be opened. The movie is not in a format that QuickTime Player understands. Can someone help me please? thanks so much.

"Ok I installed Perian, but my videos still won't play."
Did you repair permissions and restarted your computer after doing the above? If not, suggest that you do so.
Download VLC Media Player which plays avi files & just about anything else you throw at it. Make sure you repair permissions and restart your computer after the installation.
Have you considered cross-posting in the iPhoto forums?

  • Audiobook will not play continously

Hi, I am working on Windows Xp, with a Ipod classic and Itunes 8.1.1.10. I have bought an audiobook. It is mp3 but I converted it to be a ipod audiobook (4mb)
It shows in the Audiobook menu and it plays. But when first chapter is finished it goes back to the menu and I have to manually choose Audiobook and then chapter 2.
    What settings am I missing?

Make a playlist for the Audiobook and play it from there. The playlist should move from one track/chapter straight to the next one. I even make mine smart playlists (album name=x, playcount=0). That way, when I've listened to a track/chapter, it drops off of my smart playlist. When I come back to the playlist later, I know that i can always start at the top.

  • Music will not play on iPhone 4?

I have mpegs in playlists on the iPhone from my iTunes.  Since the upgrade to 10.5, playback hangs whenever an mpeg attempts to play.  Is there a way to fix this?

I tried the: Delete music, sync, add music back in and sync.  It worked. Thanks to those who posted the solution.

  • MP3s flagged as Audiobook do not play in iOS5

Just upgraded to iOS5, now any MP3 that I have changed the media type to be an audiobook will not play.  When I try to play it just goes through all the files on the album and skips through them then dumps me back at the selection screen.
If I change that MP3 to be music, it works fine.
Change it back, it will play once, then never play again.
    Anyone else experience this?

I found out the issue isn't with it being tagged as Audiobook but rather it's iTunes that is causing the problem (or maybe how iTunes is tagging them) since when I deleted them on my iPod and used a third party program called "CopyTrans Suite" and it's freeware app that is similar to iTunes Audiobooks worked flawlessly again in iOS 5.
It must be the current version of that program since iOS 5 changed a lot of things and causes older versions to report an error on iPods (when there is nothing actually wrong) and is worth using until iTunes is fixed. (10.5.2 is garbage atm)
You can download this program here: (other apps in suite are trial, but the freeware iTunes like one is all you need)

Worked flawlessly for me so far, and no re-encoding or anything ether. Hope it helps others.

Try restoring the iPhone to factory settings. If you are having difficult restoring, put the iPhone into Recovery Mode and see if that then works:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1808
If not, or if a restore to factory settings does not fix the problem, then your iPhone may have a hardware problem. You can only get the iPhone serviced by Apple in Canada, so you will have to take the iPhone there or send it to someone you know in Canada who can get the iPhone serviced and send it back to you. The only option for getting service in Pakistan would be to pay some unauthorized repair shop to attempt a repair, after which Apple will no longer provide any service even in Canada.

  • I downloaded audiobook from iTunes. It comes in 2 parts. Part one will not play, only part 2. When I tried to sync to ipod or iphone it prompted,"file could not be reaf from or written to".Can I fix this issue?

I just purchased and downloaded an audiobook from iTunes. I tried to sync it to iPhone 4 and iPod Classic but with both devices got a message"file could not be read from to written to".  Then I tried to play the audiobook in iTunes and realized that only part 2 of my 2 part download will play. Part 1 will not play. Is this why I got the message? Is there any way to get another try at downloading my audiobook I just paid $15 for??

Click the Shuffle button at bottom left of iTunes window so the crossed arrows are not blue.

  • My iPhone will not play music, and says it's connected to a dock when it's not. Help?

My iPhone will not play music. Whenever I try to play music through the speakers on my iPhone it won't let me adjust the volume (like it's connected to a dock) and when I do connect it to a dock, the music plays through the iPhone speakers. Also I've tried just listening to my music through earphones and it plays for around 6 seconds then it goes back to like it's connected to a dock. Help? I've tried turning it off and on, restarting it and even restoring it and nothing's worked.

It says this when not connected to the dock. His dock is an ihome which isn't an official Apple dock. I think my next step is to take the thing in to an Apple store.
