Help before I become an Apple hater!  Lost music files...

I don't tend to have many problems with iTunes, my iPod or my iPhone... but...
On swapping external drives over etc. somehow I managed to delete some downloaded albums that I had previously bought. I presumed I could just hit "buy" again & it would tell me I have already bought it & can download it again. All it does tell me is that I can buy it again! is there anyway to re-download bought items? If I go to the check for purchases link it tells me I have downloaded everything already... help would be MOST appreacite!

If you didn't make a back-up of your purchases to restore from then I'm sorry to say that the policy on lost purchases is that you have to pay to download them again:
"Once a Product is purchased and you receive the Product, it is your responsibility not to lose, destroy, or damage the Product, and Apple shall be without liability to you in the event of any loss, destruction, or damage." iTunes Store: Purchased content can be downloaded only once
You could try contacting iTunes Store Customer Service and you might be able to persuade them to sanction a second free download. There have been occasional reports in the iTunes forum of this happening, however just be aware that they are not under any obligation to do so. If you click on this link you'll be able to email your query: Customer Service - iTunes Store Support
If you have an iPod that still has any of your purchases on it you'll find details in this article on how to transfer them to the computer: Copying iTunes Store purchases from your iPod or iPhone to a computer

  • Lost music files? where to retrieve them!

    Hello all,
I have a slight problem. I was trying to delete duplicate music files and instead of deleting the files in my music folder while in Itunes one by one, I chose to do it by deleting all of the music and reimporting them by going to File>>Add Folder To Library>> option in Itunes. Under the Itunes preferences settings, it says that my Itunes Media folder is located in C:\Documents and Settings\myname\My Documents\My Music\Itunes\ItunesMusic. i go thei to look for all the music and they're not there. I know I did not delete them of the computer because theyre not in my recycling bin. Yes, unfortunately, I'm on Windows so I am desperate right now because I feel like I lost my music collection. Will somone please help. Thanks so much in advsnce.

Mail rules are stored in iCloud if you use iCloud.
    They're in ~/Library/Mobile Documents/com~apple~mail/Data/MailData/SyncedRules.plist.
Note you should be VERY careful about modifying anything under Mobile Documents as it's iCloud and changes/errors/deletions you make will be instantly synched to all your devices.

  • What's the easiest way to retrieve lost music files?

I was using a file sharing program and I saw that all of my music files were being shown in its share folder, and I did not want to share them. I assumed the files were duplicates and deleted them. When I realized the actual files were being deleted I stopped it, but not before several hundred files were lost. Here is the error message I get when I plug in my iPhone.
    http://i174.photobucket.com/albums/w91/Candyman_8877/Untitled1.png
It says there is a hundred files missing, but when I count the "!" marks in iTunes, I got to 100 by the letter C, so there is definitely several hundred files missing. I have my machine backed up with time machine, and I also have a faily recent copy of my music folder on an external drive.
I'm wondering, what is the easiest way (using the fewest clicks) to restore all of my missing music files? I'm trying to avoid searching out and restoring every missing file individually, as there are hundreds and this would be very time consuming.
Thanks for any help and advice,
    mcfada

If you are confident the Time Machine backup is current, recover your iTunes folder and all its contents from there.

  • I Tunes has lost a large proportion of my music library.  The music in question is however still on my IPod.  Is there any way to sync backwards so the IPod updates ITunes?  Or is there any other way I can try to recover the lost music files?

I Tunes has lost quite a large proportion of my music library.  I think this may have happened when I tried to download a previous version of ITunes that failed to load.  Whatever, the music is still on my IPod.  Is there anyway files on an Ipod can be transferred back into ITunes?  Or is there any other way I can try to recover my music files?  Also, I no longer have any confidence in ITunes ability to store data efficiently and wonder if there is any way I can back up my IPod outside ITunes?

Your i-device was not designed for unique storage of your media. It is not a backup device and media transfer was planned with you maintaining a master copy of your media on a computer which is itself independently backed up against loss.  To use a device with a new computer you transfer the content from the old computer (or its backup) directly to the new computer, not the device to the new computer. Media syncing is one way, computer to device, updating the device content to the content on the computer, not updating or restoring content on a computer. The exception is iTunes Store purchases which can be transferred to a computer.

For transferring other items from an i-device to a computer you will have to use third party commercial software.  See this document by turingtest2: Recovering your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device - https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3991

  • Lost music files after upgrading to itunes 7

Hi, can someone please confirm whether or not my music files have been physically deleted from my computer after upgrading to itunes 7. Many of the songs in my playlist, including MOST of the songs purchased through itunes come up with the error that the original file can't be found. I've done searches and can't come up with the files.
I want to know if they are indeed gone.
I realize that you click "I agree" to the agreement before installing and as of now this "contract" has held up. However, we'll see how well it holds up when offered software is knowingly removing personal files. I'm sure that if someone were to write a virus that destroys your computer, if it had a warning message with an "I agree" button, it would be a very difficult contract to stand by.
To my recollection, no software in the past has physically removed personal files from your harddrive on install.
So, I don't think a precedence has been set for this kind of class action.

    and we refresh.

  • Lost music files in iTunes library

When I installed iCloud on my PC and iPhone, all the music I had in my iTunes library that was from CDs disappeared. I have now uninstalled iCloud on both. Can I recover those music files using some sort of restore process? Thanks.

  • Lost music files in iTunes 10 update.

I updated my iTunes and have since noticed that several music files are missing from my library including recently purchased items from the iTunes store. I tried locating them by going to the Purchaced folder along the left side of iTunes and this folder has now completely vannished. Music that I have copied to iTunes via CD is also missing.
Any ideas as to why this has happened and how to recover my music files without having to trawl through the guts of my computer?

I lost all my music and found most of it. The purchased music I found also but it was never recognized by iTunes. Also all my playlist were gone. I still haven't figured it all out.

  • Help before i throw my apple products out the window I cant download i tunes on my laptop

I get a error message after is says successful download it says apple application support not found windows error 2
also need some help with syncing my I pad music to my old computers i tunes. when I try to sync it wants to delete the music on my ipad.

I'm getting the same problem. Probably since 10.4.10 but I can't be sure. I am have just been perplexed at why my other machines are working OK and my iMac G4 17" 1Ghz is having network problems. It has the original Aiport Extreme Card inside. I was Googling and saw a suggestion to delete all your "Network Locations" then start fresh. I've just tried that and I'm running a ping for a while to see how its performing. I think its improved but the signal read only 2 bars still when my MacBook Pro right next to it read 100%.
    Somebody must know something?

    What classes?
-Do I have to buy Windows 7 OS for Macintosh?
If you want to run it on the Mac you will. Check with your school and see if they offer cut-rate education deals on these things.
-Do I have to buy Microsoft Office again?
No. You can use the Mac version.
-Can I transfer Microsft Office to Windows 7 on my Mac using Boot Camp?
Yes, but that seems like an awful lot of hassle. I suggest Parallels if you must use Windows. Use Office on the Mac side. Double-check that "Windows" requirement.
-Also can buy A Macbook Pro through payments?
Depends. What is your credit score?
Im taking Business Computer Applications, I dont own a credit card or i dont think i even have credit but ill see what i can do. But thanks anyways im you all responded.

  • ¿how to recover gb from lost music files?

i delete all the music from itunes, and from the folder of music, but in the system information says that i have 32 gb of audio, and i dont know where is all that music, i want to know if there is a hidden folder with all the music or what?
    please help =D

I guess the thread didnt help, if you are asking...
Btw, photos is one of the things I havent recovered yet. And I think in my case they were not in the backup, but this is either because photos are not stored there, or because I have overwrited the backup somehow.
I am a PC user and in my case the backup extractor couldnt read the backup either, because these files were missing. I simply copied these files from another backup (I have the latest iTunes 10 and iOs 5, and have multiple backups now, before the update I had only 1 backup - I think I was with iTunes 9 or earlier and definitely iOs4) in the folder of the corrupted backup (you have the backup location for PC in my thread linked above).
The second step is to open each of these 4 files, but I think the key file is the info.plist and maybe the manifest.plist with Notes and Find (ctrl+f) and replace the folder's name and eventual date/time with the one these files are now - the corrupted backup folder. I think the date and time were contained actually in the folder's name. You may Find in Notes the folder's name by looking for the year of the backup you have copied from the .plist files.
Now, the backup extractor program should be able to read the corrupted backup.
    Hopes this helps.

I performed windows search on my drive and with some effort can find the music. Please note these files are not in the my music folder, they are in a file in my documents. ( I have a reason for that ).

Ps the above question is how to I put it all back?
