Help! Blackmagic card analogue in.

Running mac pro, blackmagic decklink hd extreme, blackmagic prefs set to xlr audio in, voice over tool set to decklink. Not getting any sound into final cut, nor into the mac osx using the 'sound-input' pref panel and setting input to decklink.
Any ideas? Anything I'm missing? Brand new setup so it's quite possible. The card is playing out audio and video fine.
Thanks dudes.

Good problem solving - I should have mentioned that it is running through a pre amp then sound desk. I'm definately getting signal from the desk and all the cables work. It is indeed for a comm track. I could put it in unbalanced, but would prefer if there was a balanced line in solution first.
The card has line in xlr's so why don't they work? Nothing comes up in the capture tool when on this input setting. What have I missed? I've just bought ten of these cards for our facility so it better bloody work or I've a lot of explaining to do!
Thanks guys!

  • Blackmagic Card into FCP is only capturing Black/White video .. need help

Hey all, I just bought a Blackmagic Decklink SP video card. Going into FCP when digitizing video only comes in Black and White.
    Here's the setup:
OLD VHS player (RCA out) into the Blackmagic card (BNC).
We're just using the (Y-in from deck) cable that came with the breakout cables. This is plugged into the VHS deck with a BNC to RCA adapter.
Does anyone what might be causing this ?
Is there a setting that I'm missing.
    Appreciate any replies

First off...show all of your students this tutorial:
    http://library.creativecow.net/ross_shane/tapeless-workflow_fcp-7/1
It isn't long, and it shows the proper way to deal with tapeless footage in FCP.  Step 1: BACKUP THE CARD! Never import directly from the card. You need a backup first. Unless you are in a hurry, then you can import and backup later...before you erase the card.
But this camera is tricky...it shoots SD to those cards.  Standard Def.  With the world moving to High Def, I'm not sure that was the wisest purchase.  You really should be getting an HD camera.
As for the computers...do they all have the same OS version?  QT version?  FCP version?  They all should be at least at Mac OS 10.6.8, QT 7.6.6, and FCP 7.0.3.
But yeah...get a different camera.  And HD one.  And show that video in class.  Instill proper tapeless workflows while they are young!

  • What blackmagic cards work with speedgrade?

I have a Decklink Studio 2 and when I try to see speedgrade on my coloring monitor I just get either a flickering line or odd squished versions of the video with the top of the screen black. Premiere can output just fine.
When I emailed blackmagic they said they don't support speedgrade and I noticed that speedgrade is not listed on their decktop video driver for the decklink line as a supported application.
Yosemite, Speedgrade CC 2014, latest blackmagic drivers.
I am wondering what blackmagic card specifically will work with speedgrade. Is anyone using one?

Best thing I can say is file a bug/feature report with Adobe ...
Adobe Bug Report /Feature Request form ...
    https://www.adobe.com/cfusion/mmform/index.cfm?name=wishform
And also contact/email with BM complaining of their lack of support for this. It's more something I think BM has to work on, but there are maybe things Adobe can help with.

  • How do I get PremierePro CS6 to talk with Blackmagic card for HDMI output?

I recently upgraded my MacPro from CS5 to CS6.  I primarily work with Premiere Pro but also with PhotoShop and Sound Booth.  Previousely, my HDMI monitor worked with CS5 but the playback settings in CS6 only had the Adobe Default Player as an option and it would not show the Blackmagic card as an option.  I upgraded my Blackmagic software to the most recent version (9.7) but that didn't work either.  After the Blackmagic upgrade the HDMI signal in the CS5 PremierePro version (still installed and in use) ceased to operate. Subsequently, the MacOS was also upgraded from 10.7.5 to 10.8.3 but no change in outcome.  I have checked all mechanical connections.
    My platform specs are:
    MacPro (Early 2009)
    OS 10.8.3
Processor:  2x2.66 GHz Quad-core Intel Xeon
    Memory:  12 BG, 1066 MHz DDR3
    Dual screen Apple display
Blackmagic output settings (9.7) :  All Video, 4 Analog Audio & 2AES/EBU  (NTSC)
My question is how do I get PremierePro to talk with the Blackmagic card?
    Phil

    Hi Phil,
What Blackmagic card do you have?
There is a known bug with the Intensity cards and Blackmagic driver 9.7 where it does not output HD, only SD   This should be resolved soon.
In the meantime, if you have a Intensity card you can go back to desktop version 9.6.8.

  • Digitizing - loss of sync ver 6.0.3  blackmagic card

firstly hello everybody, this is my first post.
just wondering if anyone else had experienced loss of sync whilst digitizing on ver 6.0.3? we recently upgraded and have noticed the occasional loss of sync sometimes as bad as approx 4-5 secs. i use blackmagic cards, sdi inputs and the decks (j30/dvcam) have reference. you get no error messages and appears to happen at random times during capture, ie the top end of the media may appear fine but somewhere after half way the sync is lost. as we were going onto xsan i pretty much doubt it was a drive speed issue, i thought it to be a bug with 6.0.3 as when i rolled back to ver 6.0.1 i did'nt experience these issues. however i uninstalled + re-installed the blackmagic drivers a few times, on some vers the blackmagic capture presets would'nt appear in the capture tool! i eventually went back to vers 6.7.1 and it appeared to capture ok however just wondering if anyone else had this issue as at the time it caused me a fair bit of grief. cheers.

You do not use the 'Import' function under the File Menu to import P2 card content because the video content is still in its native form. For example, my Panasonic HPX 171 produces .MXF video files (amongst all the other files and folders within the overall heirarchy).
In order to access the copied P2 information you have to Log & Transfer it, as if it were a camera plugged into the computer. This process then converts the MXF P2 files into a Quicktime format that the Final Cut application can read and work with.
Take note that when archiving a P2 card as you did it is imperative that ALL the other files and folders are copied and saved. In other words, the entire 'CONTENTS' folder. It is this 'CONTENTS' folder that you navigate to within Log & Transfer when you want to import to FCP.

  • Using a Blackmagic Card to remove Pulldown

    Hi,
We did a test here where we setup our Blackmagic card to remove the pulldown (hardware) from Digital Betacam footage shot in film. The only option that we saw in the preference pane for blackmagic was to select the frame reference (00)-(01)-(02) etc.
In FCP 5.0 we used the blackmagic 8 bit capture presets. We put the fps at 23.98. The grab went fine, the pulldown was removed properly. That was surprising since we thought it wasn't supported, but after several tests we could confirm that it was working properly.
The thing that we realised later was that the timecode in the quicktime file was totally wrong: it was kind of randomly offset + it was in 29.97 fps even though the clip was playing in 24fps. So are we missing a setting here, or it just because the feature is not supported inside FCP5.0 ?
    I can handle the truth.
    thanks in advance
    seb
    PowerMac G5   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

Very interesting, as I also thought the AJA was the way to go if you wanted to do pulldown removal. Just to clarify, you were capturing at 23.98p, correct? You just have me a little confused when you say "the clip was playing in 24fps" as 24fps and 23.98p are different settings.
Also, it's the timecode in FCP that's displaying 29.97, right? A little while ago I was in a forum where there was confusion b/t timecode in FCP and the burn in time code. That doesn't sound like what you're experiencing though. Other than the timecode, you say everything look right? No interlaced frames or anything like that? Again, from your description it sounds like this all went fine. My only guess is that Black Magic can remove the pulldown but can't properly deal with the timecode so they say it's not supported. In my limited experience, I captured interlaced, removed the pulldown, and used the media manager to make offline copies. This worked perfectly switching b/t the online and offline versions. Surprisingly, even when I accidentally directed the timeline to reconnect to the interlaced media that I had not deleted yet, I still eneded up at the same place in the footage. So, I'm guessing keeping up with all these timecodes is a tricky matter and perhaps Black Magic is directly their efforts elsewhere.

  • Blackmagic Card...

    Hey folks,
I'm going to be shooting a film where a lot of the footage will be shot on VHS-C and mixed with footage from my Panasonic Af101, and possibly with some Super-8.
I'm a bit of a novice at capturing old VHS footage to be used in FCP and was wondering if one of you kind souls could talk me through the process. I've been recommended to get a Blackmagic Card, so was just wondering how this works and what other equipment I may need.
    Many thanks in advance.
    Matty

Well...this all depends.  Do you want to end up with an HD master or SD master?  Like a DVD?  Or what?  What will your final format be?  That's how you decide what your workflow will be.
If HD, then you need to upconvert the footage.  Meaning using a capture card to do the upconvert.  The ones that do the best do it via hardware...such as the BlackMagic Decklink Extreme 3D (the only BlackMagic card that upconverts via hardware...all the rest do it via software)...or the AJA Kona LHi...or the Matrox MXO2 line.
I have a tutorial on this process, using the AJA Kona 3:  http://library.creativecow.net/articles/ross_shane/aja_kona3.php

  • Blackmagic cards

    Hi
Just wondered if someone could give me the lowdown on what a blackmagic 5.8 card can actually do.
Have been using final cut for years but am suddenly faced with this thing and it is making me feel pretty stupid again.
Suddenly I am questioning what I thought I knew on FCP.
I know it is a decklink card and have used it before as simply a means of capturing from tape - but am now finding that it is being used in my new place of work to downconvert footage [HDcam to DV for offlining] (which I didnt know it could do) and that these settings on the card itself override those in my log/capture settings in the log/capture window.
spent three hours yesterday capturing with DV pal in my capture settings to find out that the settings on my decklink card were actually taking presidence.
Previously in my experience the capture settings would have had to have been the same as the tape format to work properly but that seems to have gone straight out the window. These cards can compress the SDI input into any format you like? Its pretty impressive.
Can the card be used to playout in the same manner - a dv pal sequence played out to uncompressed 4:2:2 digi beta.
    Chris

    Hi Chris
5.8 is the current revision of the drivers ... there are a few different Blackmagic cards and what yours can do depends on which one it is.
Have you checked out the Blackmagic website. It has some pretty definitive information. http://www.blackmagic-design.com/
Also, consider dropping in on the Blackmagic forum over at the Creative Cow.

  • AE CC Dropped Blackmagic Card in Video Preview

When i upgraded to CC i selected The BM card in the Video Preview "Output Device" preference in AE but 1 day later the Option has dissapeared and only "Computer Monitor only" is an option.
Does anyone have a solution on how to get my BM card back in the list so I can use my output monitor?
    Thanks

I have a similar problem but it is audio driven I think. So I open AE CC and I can make a Blackmagic selection to say 1280x720. Set up a composition to that size and I can preview to my JVC monitor that the Blackmagic Intensity card outputs to. But the project has no audio. Everything works as it should.
As a test I have then  set my video output to 1920x1080 23.97. I have imported a Pro Res encoded video from my GH2 with audio. I drag this into a comp which matches the output perfectly. In the timeline I swithc off the audio and do a short ram preview. The video plays back perfectly on the monitor. I then switch on audio hit ram preview again and my JVC monitor turns black. If I then look in the Video Preview settings of Preferences the Blackmagic card that I could see before has disappeared.
Of course none of this happens with AE CS6, and Final Cut Pro X where both audio and video are fine.
    I am running
Mac OSX 10.8.3, with Blackmagic Drivers 9.7.5

  • Disabling Blackmagic Card Playback in PPro CS4

I am trying to work in Premiere Pro CS4 using footage that I captured from the Blackmagic Intensity Pro card. The timeline is playing on my external device and no matter how times I change the Player and Audio settings, it continues to play audio through the device. It will not play in Premiere at all. Not through speakers nor headphones. Even if I unplug the external monitor from the Intensity Card, it still will not play audio in Premiere.
It plays the source monitor audio through the computer but any playback done in the Timeline doesn't. Please help me, I am so confused.

I created a new sequence using the standard Premiere Pro NTSC settings and copy everything over. It works. I didn't realize that I was creating Blackmagic sequences. I'm going to test it out with some other projects I was having problems with.
Thanks a bunch. This was driving me nuts.

  • Output through Blackmagic card?

I'm looking into the Blackmagic Ultra Studio card as aposed to outputting through an Open GL graphics card. Does anyone recommend another product? I'm only wanting it so i can correctly display colour and gamma i don't need it to record via SDI or HDMI.

I am using CS6 an BM Multibridge also only for preview (no chaptue) outout via SDI oder HDMI to a professional Monitor Sony OLED 2541 (SDI or HDMI).
To use BM you need to open a own BM timeline which you can choose in CS6-Settings BM - properties. With standard CS6 timeline SDI output does not work.
    You should now:
When you use effects in a CS6 standard timeline, somtimes rendering is not necessary (green line). When you use BM (in my case Multibride) + CS6 Effects/ColorCorrection (or RedGiant or others) rendering is VEVERY time necessary. If you dont use Effects/ColorCorrection rendering ist not necessary.
A proper NLE helps in this case very much.
    Same for AE CS6.

  • Anyone using Blackmagic card for preview monitor?

I have a Blackmagic Intensity Pro card for monitor out to a lcd tv connected via HDMI.
The picture on my tv has black bars on the left and right side of the screen (like 4:3 should be 16:9). It is not showing my 1080i60 canvas as it is in Motion.
Whats weird is........... I put the same Intensity Pro card in another Mac Pro connected the same tv and it looked wide screen and displayed properly.
I can't figure out what's different about my Motion????

Yes they were both set to HDV 1080i60. It's really weird. I hope Blackmagic can help me tomorrow when I call.

  • Audio will not playback when using the blackmagic card

    Hey
I have a Premiere Pro CS.5.5 running on MacPro running lion and with a black magic extreme 3d card.
Audio wont playback in source window, i hit play and nothing happens the time and cursor just stand still, no audio playing no errors no nothing.
However if i put that wav file in my timeline everything works fine.
Video plays fine in the source monitor and outputs to my SDI monitor with the black magic card.
If i go to preferences and player settings and select adobe player as the default instead of blackmagic then the audio (and still video) works fine.
in the source viewer but i am not getting anny image on my SDI monitor.
The timeline and record window everything still works fine.
    Have annyboddy had this problem
    Thank you

    Everything is set up right.
And when i put stuff in the timeline all is outputting fine on the monitor and with the audio
So if i am trying to play a wav file in the source window, the cursor is not moving and the timecode is not counting it just dosent move.
But as soon as i drag the wav file to the timeline there is no problem, the audio file is playing just perfect.
So it is the source window that is the problem.
Thank you for all you help

  • Help Identify Card

Recently bought HP Pavillion 7670 (Core Duo E6600) which comes with "Ati Radeon x1600se 512 MB" video card.
System running Windows XP MCE 2005 (all up-to-date)
I have identified this to be manufactured by MSI [MS-V040B0609060667].
However I cannot find a 512 MB 1600 card in the product range. :(
The problem I have is that Device Manager was reporting this as a 1600 series card, until I updated to the latest driver from Ati [8.31-061011a-038529C-ATI]. It now reports this as a 1300 series card.
Anyone got a clue what is going on and help identify the card?

    Thanks for all the advice.
Have removed all the drivers as suggested and re-installed HP update.
