HELP Boot Camp won't start after firmware update

Hi Guys,
I just bought a XP CD and installed 10.4.6 and the latest firmware update for my XP installation. So I downloaded Boot Camp, and when I go to the assistant in utilities a window pops up and it says "You must update your computers firmware to use this assistant"
So when I check MacBook Pro SMC Firmware update also in utilities it confirms I have the latest firmware 1.0.
I have repaired permissions and still nada...
Can anyone determine what is wrong? Any help would be greatly appreciated
Thanks
Pete

i think the SMC update != overall system firmware. did you update ur machine to firmware version 1.01? heres a link http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/macbookproearly2006firmwareupdate101.html

Like so many others, I installed OSX Yosemite this morning and now Boot Camp no longer works.
After I updated to Yosemite I restarted my computer, held down  alt, and was presented nothing but a Macintosh HD. I followed “Loner T’s” instructions…

…and now a windows option is available during startup. However, when selected, all I get is a black screen with "A disk read error occurred" notice.

  • Help - Macbook Pro won't start after running update

I just checked the FAQs here and ran several searches and have not found an answer to my problem. I sure hope someone here can help.
Today I installed the big batch of updates Apple released recently (I think it was on July 31) on my 2.4 GHz Macbook Pro. When I turned it on, I was told there was one last update that required me to turn off the machine and then hold down the power button.
I did, and the machine started to come on, but I guess I held the button down a little too long. Now the machine won't turn on. Everytime I press the button, I hear the same sound I always get when I turn on my machine, except that now the sound just goes on and on and on, and the MBP never actually boots up.
I wish I could remember the exact name of the update. I think it might be the EFI Firmware Update 1.2 that's described at http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/macbookproefifirmwareupdate12.html. That scares me because the words "Important: Do not interrupt the update" suggest things can go badly if the update doesn't go right the first time.
Any advice as to what I should do?

That sounds like an interrupted firmware update. And Macs with interrupted firmware updates are very unhappy Macs!
You will need to restore your firmware to it's original state, then reapply the update. For this, you'll need to create a Firmware Restoration CD.
    See this page:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=303469
Here's one of the more important sections of the page: +"If your computer is already in this state, you'll need to download the software and create the CD on another Macintosh computer, or you can take your computer to an Apple Store or Apple Authorized Service Provider to restore your firmware. This CD can be created on both PowerPC- and Intel-based Macintosh computers."+
You might be better off just taking it in to an Apple Store.
Ps. When you get a chance, you might want to update OS information in your forum settings - I'm pretty sure you're not running 10.3.8 Panther on your MBP!

This might be Zone Alarm since it provides virtualization. Please try the instructions to turn off virtualization in the following support question

  • Ovi Maps 3 don´t start after firmware update (6220...

    Hello!
a few days ago I installed ovi maps 3 on my nokia 6220c and it works well. Later I updated the firmware from version 03.06 to 05.15.
After firmware update ovi maps don´t start-> "Cannot open application. Install latest version from nokia.com/maps."
But Nokia Map Updater says, there are no updates for my maps.
    What´s wrong?
Can I reinstall Ovi Maps 3? Or is it possible to install Ovi Maps 3 new?
    thanks

    Hello!
The Map Updater said: "there is no update for your phone" ...because maps 3 is already installed.
But in the meantime I have found a solution!!
I downloaded maps 2.0 from the German nokia page and installed it. Later I started Map Updater and could update to Maps 3 and now it works!!!
I think the problem was: I first updated to Maps 3 and later updated the firmware. There was any older version of fixes included in the firmware update, so Maps 3 was damaged...
     thanks
    sorry for my bad English

  • Boot Camp Won't Load after adding Mavericks

    How things started
    13" MacBook Air mid-2011
    Mac OS X Lion 10.7.5 (11G63b) with 256gb SSD
HDD partition between OS/X and a BOOTCAMP partition running Windows 7 SP1 x64 Ultimate
I updated both OSes with the latest drivers.
In Lion, I did (disabled now) have v.9.5.2 of Paragon's NTFS driver installed (which I forgot about before I started down the path I'm on).
    What I did:
After doing a time machine backup of Lion, I downloaded Mavericks. However, Disk Utility was reporting very little free space on OS/X. I ended up having to run Repair from the Recovery Partition. Once I did that OS/X and Windows were both booting fine and I had > 180 GB of free space on my OS/X partition.
I created a 48 GB partition as follows:
I then installed Mavericks and got XCode, etc. installed. Today upon restarting I can't boot into Windows on Boot Camp.
First it didn't show up on the Start Up selector when holding down the Option key. I then started looking. I set Boot Camp as start up in the Paragon applet and this allowed it to boot into Boot Camp but then I get the ...
No bootable device --- insert boot disk and press any key
    ... error.
So I found the magic thread with Christopher Murphy's advice so I'm looking for help.

Just repost, this thread will linger and vanish eventually. I guess you are seeking the help of Chris Murphy for the Boot Camp issue, and for him to help he will need to be informed as to which OS you use. Do that discreetly, and accept that he may not be able to help as he may have no knowledge of the upcoming version.

  • Boot Camp won't start in Windows 8

    Hi All,
I got the new MacBook Pro with Retina Display this week and I installed Windows 8 Release Preview with Boot Camp. The reason I used Windows 8 is because the Retina Display is not supported in Windows 7 yet.
The dual boot and drivers are all fine. The only problem is that the keyboard doesn't work as how normal windows keyboard... For instance, the function keys only work when fn is pressed, or they are basically doing special tasks like changing the brightness, etc.
I know this is the default behavior in Mac OS and you can set it through keyboard settings. I also know that Boot Camp in Windows should be able to deal with that too. However, when I try to launch Boot Camp in Windows 8, it always give me me this error:
    Boot Camp
An error occurred while trying to access the startup disk settings.
You may not have privileges to change the startup disk. Make sure you have administrative privileges and try again.
    OK
I used to use the 27 inch apple display with Windows 7 before, so I know this is realted to the fact that the system is using AHCI driver instead of ATA driver for the harddisk. Seems like with Boot Camp 4.0 and Windows 8 Release Preview, the system natively boots into and supports AHCI mode. I verified that in the device manager in Windows 8.
So, how can I use boot camp in Windows 8 with AHCI driver? If I cannot do that, is it possible to get back to ATA mode? Or, is it possible to change the behavior of the keyboard without using boot camp? (Of course I can use the default driver for the keyboard I guess, which basically make Fn doesn't work and make "delete" doesn't work since delete = fn + backspace).
If none of them are possible, when will Apple update boot camp to run with Windows 8? Or, when will Apple release the retina graphics driver for windows 7?
    Thanks
    Ti

Thank you and AfflatusX for providing me the suggestion.
I tried that but it still wont work for me. I am not sure what graphics card I am using. But I just got my Macbook Pro 13' in less than one month and I check the configure, it should be Intel HD Graphics 4000 processor since mine is 13' and only the 15' has the NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M graphics processor which is called Retina display.
I checked the Device manager and found that I actually only have the Microsoft Basic Display Adapter, which means that there is no actually right display driver for the x64 Windows 8 CP .
I even tried to get the latest beta version display driver for  Intel HD Graphics 4000. It was installed with no error. But after I restarted the computer, the display became black and I could not see anything. I had to use the windows install disk to restore to the original basic original display driver.
To sum, there is no correct display driver for my MBP right now. This cause the video can not be played smoothly ( still OK but  not smooth). It also possibly makes the screen too bright. :-(

I do not see much about coloum 14, but I am guessing this file is stored somewhere and its corrupt. Update.xul suggests that it is the update file. Do you still have this in your downloads folder? There are two places for update and for a clean reinstall:
[http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/new/] in a private window will give you a new install or you can choose from here: [https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all/]
This is what the file should look like; [http://hg.mozilla.org/mozilla-central/log/7a2edc5171e6/toolkit/mozapps/extensions/content/update.xul] If you can copy and paste that file from a working browser we can see the issue, but it will just look the same as the error.
if you can replace the contents of the file locally with what it should look like it will fix the error, but who knows if there are other errors. May be best to delete the updater and save all the profile folder contents.

  • X301 won't start after BIOS update

    Hi all:
Well I've had my new x301 for about 2 months and it's given me nothing but troubles....Recently I found out my laptop won't come back on from hibernation (when you close the screen and open it up). So I downloaded and installed the lastest updates from Lenovo (including the recent BIOS update), restart computer, only to find out it doesn't start up anymore...black screen, thinkadvantage blue botton doesn't light up, no harddrive activity, only light on is battery and power...
I'm thinking maybe something went wrong with the BIOS update. Is there anything I can do to fix it (besides shipping this thing to a repair center which is a big hassle, or paying $200 for an on-site tech that might or might not solve the problem).
    Any help is appreciated.

    Hello all
I just updated my X301 (2776LEG) with the 3.12-1.05 bios. Now my laptop won't start up when running on battery, it powers on for a short while and powers off again. This cycling keeps on going (after 30min I switched it off!) but as soon as i connect the power adapter it boots fine. Seems like this bios update f****ed up the battery power part of the computer....
I tried the bios battery trick but it only worked on the first boot and after that the same problem is present.
I have added 2gigs extra memory and a ultrabay battery and it has been working 100% for about a year now. This error started right after the bios update...
Thought that a reflash of the bios would solve the problem but i cannot reflash the bios with the same bios version...
    Any ideas ?
    Kind regards
    Tommy

  • My MacBook won't start after iTunes update. I keep getting the spinning wheel. Any suggestions?

While trying to back up my iPhone 4S to iTunes, I received a message that iTunes had to be upgraded. I did the upgrade, but my computer won't start now. I get a white screen with the spinning wheel. (Like the computer is trying to boot).  Any fixes?

I had the same after updating fronm 10.7.1 to 10.7.2 tonight. Not even a re-install of the OS X 10.7 and Combo update to 10.7.2 helped. I think this time Apple messed up big time with the 10.7.2 update and some Mac Books (my case: MacBook 15" Mid 2009 = MacBookPro5,3)

Let us try this again. I omitted the count so you are dumping the entire disk. .Use Control+C to stop it.
This is what it should look like.

  • Blackberry 9220 won't start after os update

My blackberry 9220 was perfectly working for the past 8months, after finding out that there's a new update for os, i tried updating mine. I fell asleep while updating my os thy i didnt notice if the os was successfully updated bt wen i woke up at the middle of the night, my phobe won't start. When i tried charging it, the red led light lights up then the initial screen where you see the blackberry word and load bar below it starts bt only flashes and turns off. It keeps repeating. I tried going to a phone technician but they said they cannot reformat my phone because it doesn't turn on or completely turn on in the first place.. What should i do? Please help me.

  • Apps won't start after latest update?

    Hello,
I'm on an older 2006 iMac (the one without the black border) and I installed the latest update last night. Now I can't get Firefox, Safari, Mail or apps working properly. When I try to start an app it bounces up and down and then I can't remember what it says but it won't start. Any ideas how to fix this? I'm thinking of downloading Firefox and Safari on my sister's computer and then transferring them via my memory stick.
I also tried a restart. Last night I just shut it down and walked away and figured I'd deal with it when I get home from work today.

Hi, first I hope you have your important stuff backed up!!?
I would & always do Repair Permissions Before & after Updates, so I would try the RP ..
Then I would go the SMC route, specific for your model..
If after that you still have "issues" You may need to go the Archive & Install route..

  • MBP won't start after failed update

my mbp wont start after shutting down during the latest RAW photo update. the update completely failed and now the computer won't boot anything. i could hear the hard drive try to start over and over but never get anywhere, so i inserted the leopard cd. the computer wont even boot from the disk at this point; all i hear is the optical drive making the same, start-up, squeaking sound again and again until i finally hold power for 5 seconds and shut it off.
    i have a mbp from summer 2007.

Press the Power Button and immediately press and hold down the Command and the S keys as the machine starts up. This boots you into Single-user mode and you should see white text appear on the screen.
When you see the # Command prompt, type /sbin/fsck-fy and hit the Return.
Now sit back & let your computer do its thing. This should take approximately 15 minutes or so. Depending on how messed up your computer is. Just be patient.
If and when you see the message File System was modified repeat the steps above again & again until you hopefully see the message no problems were found." When that happens type reboot and hit Return again.
If these steps do not work then boot from your install disc to repair disk. I believe you already tried this.
To use the Install Mac OS X disc, insert the disc, and restart your computer while holding down the C key as it starts up.
    Select your language.
Once on the desktop, select Utility in the menu bar.
    Select Disk Utility.
Select the disk or volume in the list of disks and volumes, and then click First Aid.
    Click Repair Disk.
Your random question, only Apple can answer that for you. Ask them and back up before you bring in your computer to the Apple store just in case.

  • Nokia 700 - won't start after FP1 update (112.some...

Just checked for updates today and I had a new OTA update available, yay! So I thought, "Finally, FP1 is here!" Here's what happened afterwards:
I charged my 700, created a back-up (never forget this step chaps), restarted it, took a deep breath, enabled Wi-Fi and let it update itself.
So first step went fine, it downloaded the update. Second, it rebooted and started loading the update files while displaying "Updating..." Next, it switched the label to a coups of gears and continued filling the progress bar. And then - the moment of truth - reboot.
Started initialising normally, then showed NOKIA logo, started the "Loading" animation with the five dots and... that was it. It keeps resetting while at the dots animation. After several tries it just gave up and remained blank. Waited some time and decided to wake it up - same scenario: starts init, several reboots, goes back to off.
Is it that the OTA SW updated screwed up my device? Really hope not!
Any words of advice from the community here before I go yell at somebody at one of my carrier's offices tomorrow morning?
    Cheers!

Brief update - turns the phone is not "bricked" at all, problem is my SIM card.
It's ancient honestly but should that render the phone useless?
In short - tried booting without SIM at all - works OK. Tried with relatively recent SIM - OK. When tried with my old SIM (think I got it as a replacement to an even older price back in 1999 or 2000) - boom! Won't power up (keeps rebooting till it gives up at some point).
Although I'll easily remedy it by getting a new chip in the morning, I was wondering - is Belle FP1 not supporting old SIM cards?
