URGENT HELP!! BIOS Checksum Error, Floppy?
When I boot up, I get a error saying "BIOS Checksum Error"
and it asks for a system floppy disk
I cannot get any further.
I tried flashing the bios, but this does not work.
Please help!!!oh, yes thats what I meant.
sometimes the it would not read the floppy
somtimes it would hang while booting the floppy
sometimes I could get far enough to run the flasher utility but it would hang
finally I was able to get far enough to flash the bios, then everything worked fine.
I guess it just got corrupt some how.
I set my boot floppy to load zero drivers and do nothing.
and I set it to run the flash on bootup.
I think there is a time limit or something before it hangs and gets stuck.
I also moved my ram from ddr2 to ddr1, that also seemed to help it get farther.
I just kept trying for like two hours until it worked. -
MRU checksum error on tabular form - please help - is intermittent.
Good old error
"Error in mru internal routine: ORA-20001: Error in MRU: row= 1, ORA-20001: ORA-20001: Current version of data in database has changed since user initiated update process. current checksum = "84A1B18AC58C9ACF03A56DA81FD75F4A", item checksum = "557F9719C364FB3D758290FB612E5FBC"., update "HBMRX"."RX7B_NODE_ALLOC" set "NODE_ALLOC_ID" = :b1, "CALC_BASIS_ID" = :b2, "QUANTITY" = :b3, "FORMULA_FLAG" = :b4, "FORMULA_TX" = :b5"
In the past when I have had this out of the blue I usually delete the region and recreate and all is fine. However I am having this error on a region in APEX 3.0 and have recreated and is intermittent.
SQL for region is similar to:
select
"NODE_ALLOC_ID",
"NODE_ALLOC_ID" NODE_ALLOC_ID_DISPLAY,
"CALC_BASIS_ID",
"QUANTITY",
"FORMULA_FLAG",
"FORMULA_TX"
from NA
where NODE_ALLOC_ID IN
(select na.node_alloc_id
from one source
UNION
select na.node_alloc_id
from another source
Updateable columns are:
"CALC_BASIS_ID",
"QUANTITY",
"FORMULA_FLAG",
"FORMULA_TX"
I have removed all Select lists and made them text fields only. I have deleted the region and rebuilt from scratch - rebuilding the MRU and MRD processes.
Most of the time it will save fine - but on about the 5th time it will error with a checksum error.
EG - edit formula_tx - add 123 - SAVE - works
then edit formula_tx add 123456 - SAVE - errors.
This is occuring on about 5 pages where I have an identical region.
Any ideas are very welcome !!Thanks for the response (handle changed)
I have had some success today with my problem in finding there is one particular column that seems to be the cause (make it non updateable and the problem goes away) - so I will try and find out the reason for this and will post back.
If I have no joy I will upload a similar scenario onto apex.com
Marc - I am only updating one table (NA) - the criteria is looking in two places to show particular nodes which meet the criteria to be displayed on screen.

Getting cmos checksum error - defaults loaded press f1 to continue. Pc boots into windows and seems to work OK. Don't seem to be able to get rid of this message though at startuop. Any ideas, it's anew board, the bios hasn't been updated the bioard is untouched?
Thanks............ Please help!!Done all you mentioned, did select load defaults, save and exit thinking that would stop the checksum message but still it's ther. I just noted that if I keep the PC plugged in to the mains however the meesage does NOT appear on reboot. However if I unplug and they plug back in to the mains and switch on the message returns, could that point to faulty Lithium battery?

I needed the bios update for a Compaq Presario SR5019UK to fix a problem with the computer namely blue screen issue (0x5C) when resuming from Hibernate mode and black screen issue when resuming from Sleep mode. So I downloaded the bios update and followed the instructions. Very easy just double click the file - but on rebooting I have the message below :
Award BootBlock BIOS v1.0
Copyright (c) 2000. Award Software, Inc.
BIOS ROM checksum error
Detecting floppy drive A media
INSERT SYSTEM DISK AND PRESS ENTER
As you can see the bios is corrupted or toast.
So I rang HP as I don't know if I can fix this and they said the machine is to old to fix and basically swallow it!..What there saying is if I cannot do a system restore then hard luck but I've explained the computer cannot do this at the moment as it doesn't know what to do with the hardware because of the BIOS corruption. Swallow this...I don't think so!!!
Firstly what are my options for fixing this?..as I understand I have to reflash or replace the chip - which I have no means of doing.
What is your opinion on downloading a program from a website and that causing a corruption or replacement - would you swallow this?
I've given HP the option of fixing it but they wont cos of the age. {Content Removed} I just want them to fix or replace the machine.
What do you guys think?
Compaq Presario SR5019UK (at the moment a very expensive door stop)

I've have a Computer Engineering degree so don't worry about your explanationSorry, but HP isn't the only company that would handle this situation this way. You have a six year old machine that is no longer supported and no longer under warranty. No company has the resources to maintain support for older products, especially when new ones are rotated in about every six months. I know this doesn't make you feel warm and fuzzy inside but these are the cold hard facts.
Since this is a peer-to-peer user supported forum and most of us on this don't work for HP, I can only give you my opinion and advice.
*****EDIT*****
Since you resolved your issue without my assistance, I have retracked the steps I listed to download the BIOS and flash it from a floppy via the "Award Boot Block".
Congratulations and good luck!!!

K8N Neo2 Platinum Checksum Error
Hi, I apologize if I break any rules here, but I tried to use the search option to locate an answer but couldn't find anything that helped me fully.
My problem is that when I try to turn on my computer, I get a message saying:
"Award Bootblock BIOS v1.0
Copyright 2000 Award Software Inc.
BIOS ROM checksum error
Keyboard error or no keyboard present.
Detecting floppy drive A media
INSERT SYSTEM DISK AND PRESS ENTER".
Except this, my computer is completely "dead", I cannot go anywhere. From what I have understood, my BIOS is corrupted, and I need to flash it. This should be done by inserting a boot floppy with added AWDFLASH.exe and a bios.bin. The thing is, I don't know how to find these files, or at least the correct ones. I have also tried to google for a solution, but haven't found anything satisfactionary. So this is kind of my last resort. I am very sorry if this is a newbie question, but I have almost no experience in this advanced (from my perspective) knowledge.
If someone could help me locate the correct verisons of the Award Flash utility and BIOS file, and write a short step by step-walkthrough of how to proceed, you would have my eternal gratitude.

This one is stuck in Award bootblock mode, will most likely need a re-flash from a bootable floppy disk.
Make a bootable floppy disk, in e.g WinXP.
Make a file with notepad, containing this line:
AWFL833D.EXE W7025NMS.1D0 /CC /CD /CP /QI /R /PY /SN
Save this file on this floppy by the name Autoexec.bat
Also add the two files AWFL833D.EXE and W7025NMS.1D0 on this floppy.
Power up the K8N Neo2 Plat. with this disk in the floppy drive. The flashing will begin, let it finish.
Remove floppy and reboot. If it succeeded, set all relevant values in BIOS and save&exit.

Not always, the same fake error message can came from bad memory stick too.
Also he didn't flash his BIOS before the message to appear. -
I have 3 Toshiba Portege R100s running Windows XP SP1/SP2. They all suffer from a checksum error on boot up which of course goes away once you press F1 and End in the BIOS. Toshiba's Memory Tester utility was run on each one, and all 3 laptop's fell into the range of laptops needing repair under Toshiba's Memory exchange program.
While being repaired by Toshiba, 2 of the laptops had their RTC battery replaced (the other's battery was replaced by a Toshiba authorized repair shop). Within 2 days of their return, all laptops still got a checksum error on boot up. Each laptop is running the newest BIOS, the same software, and I have gone through Toshiba's posted checksum error troubleshooting list.
Anyone else out there suffering from this? I have another Notebook on the way just in case.
[Edited by: admin on 03-May-05 15:24]Hi,
I found a FAQ at the Toshiba Knowledge Base about checksum errors! Perhaps it helps you a little!

HP Model #A6000n Bios Checksum Error after Bios Update!!
I performed the Bios update posted on Hp's website...After the re-boot, all I get is this error, "BIOS Checksum Error," and then the black screen looks for a bootable disk on floppy (this computer has none), then, it looks for a bootable disk on the CD drive. Now, I have talked to HP support and they say I need to order the recovery disks. Can someone send me a bootable file that I could burn to CD for this model machine and get it up and running?? I have an older machine here that would allow me to make a bootable CD but, I have no idea where to locate some kind of BIOS update and or, bootable file to flash the BIOS. I am so mad that HP has wanted me to purchase this CD recovery program just to get back into Windows Vista. But, I am not sure what to do since the BIOS update must have been corrupt when I flashed the ASUS motherboard. This computer is my Aunts and she failed to make back up restore disks and now I am lost as to getting this thing up and running...Please help!!
Thanks!
This question was solved.
View Solution.Like I said, if you have a floppy it is easy, especially since the computer doing the floppy is XP.OK, here we go.
1) place floppy disk in drive
2) open My Computer and right click on the floppy drive
3) pick format from the menu that pops up
4) put a check mark in the box next to the "Create an MS-DOS startup disk"
5) click "Start"
6) when completed copy the awdflash.exe to the floppy
7) right click on the BIOS file from HP
8) move the mouse cursor to 7-zip and then click on "open archive"
9) double click on the folder icon in the new window
10) right click on the ROM file - in this case 513.rom
11) pick "copy to" from the menu and browse to the floppy
12) when that is complete, the floppy should be ready to work
13) Move the floppy and ribbon cable to the Vista computer. It does not need to be mounted but make sure it is not touching anything metal ( a stake of books will do fine) and connect the ribbon cable and power to the Vista computer's motherboard and power supply (of course this is done with both of the computers off and unplugged)
Now ready to go on the Vista computer. When the power button is pressed on the computer, there will be an HP splash screen come up. From that screen press the "Enter BIOS" or "Boot setup" key as indicated. Forgot to ask if this screen comes up in previous posts. If this screen does not show then this is going to be much harder.
When in the BIOS, look for boot order and then set it to boot from the floppy first. Save choices to exit.
14) Reboot - should end up with a flashing cursor in the top right corner
15) type AWDFLASH 513.rom /py/sn/cc then hit Enter
16) when and if it completes power down and remove the floppy drive from the computer
That should do it. If it does not work or there are problems come back with an explanation of what did happen.
Of course, doing all this at your own risk. I am just trying to help.

CMOS Checksum Error on MSI 785GM-E51
Hi, I have 2 years old MSI 785GM-E51. Approximately 2 - 3 months ago, my PC just go hang without any reasons, even the mouse / keyboard won't respond to anything.
After I reset, sometimes it's fine, but sometimes it's hang again, the interval is random. Sometimes it even hang when in the POST or when i enter BIOS setting.
After several restart, it's sometimes gives me CMOS Checksum Error, so I decided to reset the CMOS using jumper method. After that my PC just works normal.
Until a week ago, my pc start to hang randomly again, the symptom is similar but this time sometimes it's not hang, but the PC just restart immediately with black / white / blue random pattern
displayed momentarily on the screen. And it always display CMOS Checksum Error. I already tried reinstalling Windows, and updating BIOS via flash disk from Live Update 5, no use.
I already tried to plug out my VGA and using the onboard one, still crash / hang randomly. I also test Memtest overnight with passing 11 pass without error.
Is it my motherboard already dead? or it's my PSU? CPU?
Here is my complete specs:
AMD Phenom II X4 955BE
MSI 785GM-E51
DDR3 Dual Channel 4GB RAM (corsair, forgot the model)
Radeon 5770
WDC 1TB
WDC 1.5TB
Amacrox Free Style 650W
Thanks in advance.Quote
Yesterday i desperate enough and change some BIOS settings, and
surprisingly, the CPU is much cooler!
Try entering bios, hitting f6 for optimized defaults then save and exit. See if problem persists.
Quote
As far as I remember, no, the crash / hang time i remembered is when POST / boot / startup / browsing / install app / playing games / copy file.
And one more thing, when it hangs, it really hangs, not just the windows, sometimes it even not respond to reset button, so i have to power it off. But sometimes it respond
to reset button, but with quite a long delay, it could half a minute i think.
Have you tried re-seating the cpu, memory and all of the power connectors etc?
What are the amp ratings on the 12v rail of the PSU? I found this on thier website but dont have time to dig furthur: Quote
4-Channel 12V Rails Design
Although the VGA you list only needs 24a on a 12v rail.

what's cpuid / ram timings / spd? where i can look at it?
http://www.cpuid.com/
When the program opens, take a screen shot of the tab that describe how your ram is running, It will show the current timings, speed, single or dual channel. Also take a ss of the spd tab, which will show the jdec standards that apply to that ram and the xmp profile. Then post the SS's to imageshack or the link and link them. -
According to William Stanek, in his Windows Server 2012 R2 Inside Out: Configuration, Storage & Essentials book, this is apparently possible: (pg. 615 - here it is on Google Books: https://books.google.ca/books?id=0IyfBAAAQBAJ&pg=PT819&lpg=PT819&dq=read+operation )
Integrity can be enabled when the system is not running on Storage Spaces. When
integrity is enabled and ReFS detects a checksum mismatch, ReFS logs an event and
fails the read operation by default. If you don’t want the read operation to fail, you
can configure ReFS to continue with the read operation. A related event will be logged
regardless.
So then how do I configure it to do that???
(And just to make it super-clear, I'm NOT using Storage Spaces, so there is no redundancy via mirroring/parity, and I'm not expecting any file repair - just detection of corruption. It's just a basic volume formatted with ReFS and
with integrity streams enabled, via format E: /fs:ReFS /i:enabled
For those who want more details, here's the situation:
I try to perform a read operation on a file with corrupted data (purposely done for testing using a low-level disk editor), I get a the following error message:
And an event ID 133 from ReFSv1 gets logged in the System log:
Clicking "Try Again" just brings up the same message, and clicking "Skip" skips the operation entirely.
This is indeed the correct default behaviour.
What I want instead is for the read operation to be allowed to complete, with corrupt data and all, and ONLY for the event to be logged. And according to William Stanek, this is supposed to be configurable somewhere - and after hours of searching, I haven't
been able to find anything.Hi Tommy,
>>How can I configure ReFS to NOT fail read operations when a checksum error is detected
We can use PowerShell command Set-FileIntegrity to configure this. The specific parameter for controlling this behavior is
-Enforce <Boolean>which indicates whether to enable blocking access to a file if integrity streams do not match the data.
Regarding this point, the following article can be referred to as reference.

R61 R&R won't start after "unmountable boot volume" error
Hello all,
New user, first post - after problem, of course.
I have an R61 Thinkpad with Windows XP on it. (SP2 or SP3, not sure). Has worked flawlessly for years, then the other day I got the dreaded "unmountable boot volume" error and it would not start.
No problem - I re-start, hit the ThinkVantage button, then hit F11 to use the R&R hidden on a separate partition of the hard drive........I get the black screen with the big progress bar, ok, then a blue screen......then nothing. Hangs up and sits there. I have repeated this about 5 times now.
No problem! - I was smart enough to make an R&R CD set a while ago! Put the primary R&R disk in the CD drive, start the machine, ThinkPad button, F12 this time to choose boot from CD.....much CD activity ensues and I once again get the black screen with the big progress bar. It takes much longer, and I get teh blue screen - BUT - then it goes one extra step to display the "ThinkVantage Rescue & Recovery 4" screen with the life preserver image.
Excellent, I thing - except it then hangs there. Just sits there. No disk activity. No keys will do anything.
I can find no threads here or on any other forum with this particular issue.
Am I fubar? Or is there something else I can do?
Thanks a bunch.
Solved!
Go to Solution.Hi jim, welcome to the forums,
Is the hard drive recognised in BIOS, was there an entry in the boot list against HDD0?
Regardless of it being shown in BIOS / boot list or not, the first thing I would do is to reseat the hard drive and see if that helps, maybe over time it's lost contact to the mainboard socket. If you don't know how to do this you can find out at the R61 movies site.
The next thing I would do is run a hard drive diagnosis check from a bootable cd, these can be downloaded from all HDD manufacturer's websites e.g. Hitachi's Drive Fitness Test. It may be that the drive has simply gone bad after all those years of work.
Let us know how you get on
