HELP! Brand New Zen Stone Plus WON'T TURN

Just received the product today, downloaded and installed the latest software. Charged the unit for 3 hours and successfully loaded mp3 onto the player. Following every direction and clicked the "safely remove hardware" option. All ready to go... press the on/off button... NOTHING HAPPENED! No screen! LED light did not turn on! NOTHING!
So went to Creative site and follow the "fix it myself" direction, reset the player did not work, formatting the player did not work. There is no firmware download available for Zen Stone Plus (only Zen Stone), so I could not try that option.
I am starting to think there is a defect in my player. Do you guys have any suggestion on what I should do? Does any know how to contact Creative's US customer support (email address and/or phone numbers)? And please don't refer me to the 3 dollars to 30 mins support because I already spent money expecting to buy a non-defecti've product.
I tried looking for the customer support number before posting this message. I did not know Creative have such a poor customer support system! I clicked the "email support" on its site and it directed me to some "fix the player yourself" page (I also tried those solution but did not help), and does not lead to any customer support number! HORRIBLE!Message Edited by misellu on 07-3-20070:6 PM
****** UPDATE*********
Thanks for everyone's suggestions.
Since I didn't want to spend more time to fuzz over a defecti've product, I returned my Zen Stone Plus to Amazon (I did this because I know sending it to Creative would take much longer time before I receive a replacement). Amazon sent me a new one in about 3 days at no charge (and free return shipping). The new one works fine now and does everything its suppose to do (so far...).
Just like I wrote it when I posted the problem, I tried different time intervals and it still wouldn't turn on. I couldn't have lock the unit because it requires power on to turn on the lock (which I was unable to turn on the unit).
The lesson I learn here is think about the product's customer support and where I am buying from before purchasing anything online. I would definitely think twice before buying Creative's products again.

mine wont turn on after almost two weeks since i bought my player. i went to the store where i bought my player, asked them to replace my player right there and then (because i firmly believed that it was a factory defect) but to no avail. so i let the creative support checked my player and voila! my player was infected with WORM VIRUS!!! they fixed my player, deleted the virus and was all set after 2weeks. i scanned my computer, found A LOT OF WORM VIRUS, deleted them before connecting my player to this computer. after transferring files to my player & disconnecting it from this pc, it wont turn on again!! and i havent used it for at least 0mins since i got it back! darn!! i'm gonna return it again to the storea and ask for creative support's help again. does anybody know if there is an anti-virus available for zen products?

Hi,I recieved a new zen stone plus for christmas and it told me to charge it for at least 3 hours.Well...it's been 2 days and I can't get it to respond or turn on. It responds when i plug it into the usb and it says it's charging, but the light never blinks. It just keeps charging. When i hit menu, it does nothing at all.Any ideas?

One might want to read this thread..... right here..... http://forums.creative.com/creativelabs/board/message?board.id=dap&thread.id=2477
You know, the one that is stickied.....
    More specifically, this part.......
    "Battery - Lithium-Ion Polymer
#. Battery won't charge "out of the box" new player.
    A. First, read above "Getting Started"
    B. Next, try a different USB mini cable.
    C. Next, there is a battery manufactuer's failure rate < %, in which the Lithium-Ion Polymer battery refuses to charge.
Creative, ships the Zen MP3 players with no charge so there is very small probability that? you could have one.
I call it the "Deep Six Discharge Battery" Call / Contact Creative.
#2. Battery won't charge properly after using the player for some time.
    A. When you plug in your player into the USB port via mini USB patch cable, the connection resets the player to the "docked screen" with the battery level gas guage , in the right hand corner.
Sometimes this action does not reset the player properly but there is no indication to you that the player is charging.
Just disconnect/connect the USB cable again.
    B. Sometimes, the Zen player gets confused and you have to do a Recovery Mode "paper clip reset" which forces the player into a "special menu screen" to clean-up the player and to reset the player which allows showing the "docked screen" while charging the unit. See Zen User's Guide for explicit instruction und FAQ.
    C. Since the Zens came out late in 2007, the maximum of 300-500 charge/discharge should not apply YET? but users beware, as with any other Lithium-Ion Polymer battery it will not charge fully "like new"? because of a " fixed shelf life" (2-3 yrs)?OR too many charge/discharge cycles. A battery replacement is in order."
There is a reason why that thread is a sticky guys. You're supposed to read it.

  • Help! My Zen Stone Plus 4GB working problems!

My Zen Stone Plus 4GB worked fine a few minutes ago, but if I now turn it on, it'll freeze to Zen Stone Plus 4GB logo. I can't go to menu, use buttons or turn it off a normal way! Just if I press reset button, then it'll turn off. But it's same froze thing everytime I turn it on!
Second bad thing is, that my computer doesn't recognize the player anymore. It just turns it on, but it'll stay in the same logo.
I tried Creavite's support things, no help at all.
And Recovery Tool and Firmware didn't work, because they don't recognize it.
    Please, help

kindly format your player in windows xp and scan it with avast antivirus software....... update the firmware after formatting...

  • New zen v plus won't play!!! he

HI, just spent the day downloading music from napster and my hard dri've to my new creative zen v plus mp3 player. (used to have the muvo and I loved it) and after 3 hours of hard work I unplugged the mp3 from my computer and the green down toggle doesn't seem to take me down on ANY of the menus. Not only that, but it says it is playing, but I can't hear anything and there is no evidence of any files on there. (not that I can check due to not being able to go down to select artists, albums, etc. (in music library menu)? When I look on the explorer on my computer when it (the zen) is plugged in via USB, it shows all my music on the player!!! what is going on? very frustrated as was a birthday present. (by the way, I followed all procedure including the full charge before doing anything with the mp3)

I've been away from this thread for a while because my new 8GB Zen V Plus simply stopped working. Nothing brought it back to life including reset with a paper clip. One moment it was working...the next it was dead. Fortunately I was within the 30 days of Comp-U-Plus' return policy and they exchanged it. I received the replacement today and guess what.... It has the same problem: It won't update the firmware. It just says the player isn't plugged in even though the repair program finds it just fine. This happens on two different computers. I contacted Creative support as suggested above and they gave me the same links to the same KB articles this forum gives. At this point I'm sure it's not the player and it's the firmware update software. It's time for Creative's engineers to contact people in this forum and figure out what the problem is to correct it. This isn't an isolated problem. Dale

  • Brand new Zen V plus headac

on my replacement unit from the store, I now seem to have a dead Zen V Plus.
    I've tried resetting, a no-go.
the pc is OK, it got my first unit working,of the 3 units I bought.
I feel the Zen V plus is a product that has ruined my Christmas gift giving this season. I will have to dump the unopened unit to at least recoup a small portion of my investment, as the retail store is not going to help me any further, I was lucky to get them to replace my first defecti've unit after the 7 days expired...
Is there any support for a group.complaint here ?

I am assuming you are in the U.K. Retail law states that if a product is faulty you may return it to the retailer for repair, replacement, or?refund at the retailer's discretion. The law states that?the retailer is?allowed?a reasonable?chance to repair the unit and if the fault still exists you are entitled to a full refund (less postage if any). There is no time limit on this! Any time limit imposed by the retailer is ILLEGAL. They are required by law to sell you a product fit for the purpose for which it was sold - if this is not the case then they are in breach of this law. The warranty covers defects in manufacture for the period of the warranty. The retailer may legally require you to deal direct with Creative with regard to repairs under the warranty, but the retailer is the one you need to hassle for a refund for the defecti've product. The law also states that if the unit is faulty from new, you are entitled to have the unit replaced. This has to be done 'within a reasonable time-frame'; this usally means within a couple of weeks. If you have already had a replacement unit and that is faulty also, then you are perfectly entitled to demand a full refund from the retailer - WITHOUT QUESTION. They may decide to replace the unit again; this decision is not theirs, it's your's. You decide if you want to have the unit replaced at this stage or have your money back. If you have bought the item mail-order then you can return it for a full refund within 7 days even if you just don't like?the colour - faulty items are excluded from the time limit. Check out the full statement of law online for full details; it does take a bit of wading through though. Hope this hel

  • NEW Zen Stone Plus does not work

It looked like it started to charge, but then it just died and Windows does not detect the dri've. I have tried hooking it up to another computer but no go!
I've tried all the troubleshooting on the page and nothing seems to work, it's just completely dead even though it's brand new. I wasn't even able to upload songs to it.
any tips? or should I just send the player back? The problem is that I am in Iceland and bought it in Toronto, Canada so I would like to try everything before sending it.
    thanks in advance!

I used these instructions and got all the way to reloading the firmwear. Then it said to restart the comp and I did and after that nothing! What am I doing wrong?
    Hi everyone
There is a Recovery Mode for the flash-memory players although it is different from the Rescue Mode for the HDD players - that is used for carrying out maintenance operations on the player but Recovery Mode for the flash-memory players is just a different way of connecting your player to your PC when it won't normally connect, for example, when the firmware has become corrupted and the player won't start and isn't recognised by the PC. It is in fact a way of communicationg directly with the STMP3500 chipset that these players use without needing any additional firmware.
Creative themselves called it Recovery Mode - it was first seen when Creative posted the instructions for a previous firmware upgrade that could not be run when connected normally. For the N200 it was in the instructions to upgrade to version .5.0.
Here's a line from the instructions for the latest N200 firmware upgrade, v.20.04:
When prompted to set your player in Recovery mode, disconnect your player from your computer.
    Here are the instructions:
. Download and install the Mass Storage Drivers from the website.
    2. Press and hold the Play button while connecting your player to the PC. If you have a one-piece player then remove the battery first.
    3. Keep pressing Play until the New Hardware Wizard starts - this will only happen the first time you put your player into Recovery Mode.
    4. Complete the New Hardware Wizard.
To check that you are in Recovery Mode open Device Manager (right-click My Computer and choose Properties, then the Hardware tab and Device Manager) and look for a Player Recovery Device entry.
When in Recovery Mode you can reload the firmware.

  • Brand New Zen V Plus is Fro

My player is less than a week old. The Now Playing screen is constantly displayed. None of the buttons work, even the on-off button. An audio book is at 0:32:07 with -0:22:48 left. This happened as I was fast forwarding to find the place I had left off. For some reason, yesterday as I tried to resume playing the book, it refused to start. After turning the player off and on, it did start to play again at the beginning of the book. In fast forwarding to find my place, just now, it suddenly froze.

Here is a follow up on my post. I just allowed the Zen V Plus to run out of power, so the display finally turned off. Then I connected it to my computer and the Zen began to recharge. After it was recharged, it seemed to be working. The only thing wrong was that it seems to have lost my book license so I had to resynch it. That worked and I again tried to fast forward and find the spot in the book where I had left off. That also worked and I hope my problems are over.
Was my problem an indication that there may be further ones down the road?

Hi Again, This is my/our first message to this forum after doing a long search and reading. I added to the bottom of another tread of the same title hoping to receive a response and keep that tread ali've and growing with knowledge. same thing happened to me but with the ZEN MICRO!!! How do i fix it's!?!?!?! I think i am pressing the right reset button, but nothing happens. Does this mean my battery ran out? How can i tell if my battery runs out?
To my knowlege the is no reset button on a micro - what button are you pushing?Do you get a blue glow around the edges of the player when it's plugged in?
Yeah i get the blue glow when it is plugged. The thing i was pushing was this really tiny hole to the right of the usb. O wait is that a microphone i didnt see the picture earlier. Anyways, its just that no matter how hard i push the "turn" on button to the left, it won't turn on.

  • Creative Zen Nano Plus won't turn on!!!!Please h

For some reason, my 256MB Creative Zen Nano Plus that I've only had for three months has suddenly failed to turn on. I have changed the battery several times so I know it isnt that, but when?I press the power button, the 'creative' logo comes up for about 2 seconds with the blue backlight before switching itself off. When I plug my player in my creative media organiser on my computer through the USB though, it connects absolutely fine and I can upload my media files, its just literally turning it on that is such a problem. I can't explain why its doing this, the only thing I'm thinking of is that it was in my handbag for about 6 weeks without being touched so I'm not sure if something in my bag could've damaged it's But I'm worried because I'm not sure if my player is under warranty as?I don't have the warranty sticker on the back of, only a number and a bar code? Can anyone possibly help as I've been everywhere to try and get it fixed but no one knows whats wrong!?Thank you?Laura.

Can you still connect your player to your PC? If so then you can reload the firmware. Go to the Support, Downloads page for the Nano Plus and download the firmware from there. Make sure you click on the Show Details link as that explains how to carry out the reload.

  • Brand new iMac 21.5" won't turn on - straight out the box

I just picked up my new iMac today and unpacked it etc, but it won't turn on. The wireless keyboard and mouse are supposed to be paired with it and ready to go, but the on switch on the keyboard won't turn the screen on (as far as I can tell there is no on switch on the iMac itself). The green light on the keyboard keeps blinking but doesn't connect to the iMac to turn it on. I've tried a different power cable in the iMac but that makes no difference. Does anyone know of a solution, or will it have to go back to the shop ( ) ?

The power switch is locate in the back on the lower left side as you look from the front. Did you connect the power cord and plug in the computer? There is no power button on the keyboard.
Read the iMac (21.5-inch and 27-inch, Late 2012) - Quick Start Guide.
Download the user manual: iMac (21.5-inch, Late 2011) - User Guide.

  • Please help - Brand new 8831 conf phone won't boot

Not sure how to troubleshoot these new phones, but when I power the phone via wall power (power cube) or 48v POE, the phone LEDs stay on for a second or two then go out, and then the phone does nothing.  No display or additional blinking lights - nothing.  At first I thought it was a bad power cube, so I tested on a working POE, and nothing.  I'm wondering if this was shipped DOA or what.  Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

    Hi,
Try the suggestions as per the following post including a factory reset, if it still fails it will need a RMA.
