Oh dear ... I am just learning Bridge and into the Keywords area. I have been adding some Keywords into my photos and occasionally rotating a photo. All was going well, then suddenly the Date Created started changing to today's date ... what am i doing wrong?????
I'm in Win Vista everything current with the updates and using CS4.
Thanks,
Sherry

Sherry - Both links still work for me, but I copied post #7 on second link about lightroom for you. Hope this works for you.

In Bridge, "Date Created" is the date the Photograph was taken: i.e the date recorded by your camera and stored within the file. "Date File Created" is the date when you created the file on disc, that is the date/time when you downloaded the picture from your camera.
In Lightroom, you can change "Date Created" by using Metadata->Edit Capture Time. The metadata panel shows this as "Date Time Digitized" and "Date Time Original".
(take a look at Exif specification, http://www.exif.org/specifications.html.
On page 30, it explains DateTimeDigitized and DateTimeCaptured; both are usually the same for a digital camera, maybe not if it is really slow!).
So, Bridge's sort by "Date Created" is that recorded by Camera, whereas "Date File Modified" is the date your file on disc was modified.
A pity, though, that different Adobe programs would not use the same terminology.

  • Exporting or relocating masters changes the created date on the new image/file/s ?

When I export or relocate masters onto hard drive (internal or external) it changes the created date? I have tried every option possible with no resolve. Can anyone help? eg. img98007.jpg (arranged by date in aperture and is 12/05/2001) when saved/created on the hard drive the created date will be 27/06/2008????

    I'm afraid you've lost me.
You started off (it seemed) by asking why the image EXIF date in Aperture was different then the image file date in the Finder.
The best I can say is that when an image is captured in a camera you get one date. When that image is made into a computer file the file will have another date.
I want to consolidate/sync all my files over the last decade from iphoto libraries etc. The only way to do this is to import them into aperture then export them to the finder with the correct shot dates so I can sync all images.
If it changes the created date etc. it will be impossible to do so??
What do you mean by this? I can understand the consolidate, you want to move all your images from all sources into Aperture, not a problem, but what is the sync part referring to? And why do you feel you need to export them from Aperture once you have imported them?
And again the created date of a file is the date the file is created it has nothing to do with the image creation date.
Sorry I can't be of more help,
    regards

  • Why can't I change the Created Date on a file using Terminal?

I bought a used Contour helmet camera to take pictures of the kids while they're skiing, and I cannot access the camera itself to change the clock in it (USB port is broken).
I get videos from it just fine, but every time I remove the battery the date/time on the camera resets to January 2008, so my skiing videos end up someplace completely different from what I expect in iMovie.
I thought I could change the Created Date with Touch in Terminal, but it only handles the Modified Date.  I know I can purchase File Date Changer 5 from the App Store to do this, but I'd like to know why I can't do it in Terminal.
Anybody know?  Or know of a different way that I COULD do it in Terminal?

Don't know about Terminal, but, because you are using 10.9.x and iMovie, try the iMovie method:

  • How to change the created date for a file?

I searched and found someone had asked this question last month, and an answer given was to try the site:
    http://danilo.ariadoss.com/howto-change-date-modified-date-created-mac/
which I had previously found. However, when I follow the instructions I get a message stating "-bash: -t: command not found"
I have gone through this numerous times, always with the same result. Is it possible that the direction given are not valid for Snow Leopard?
    Thanks for any help.

First, thanks to both of you for helping - I hadn't realized that the 'touch' was part of the command itself. However, when I type in:
    touch -t 0904131115/Users/RobertFately/Desktop/suttonallen/suttonallen.jpg
to test the procedure (there is a jpeg file I made today named suttonallen inside a directory of the same name) I get this error message:
touch: out of range or illegal time specification: [[CC]YY]MMDDhhmm[.SS]
This happens if I use the full year (2009) or just the last two digits (09) as seen above. My thinking is that I am attempting to redate the "create date" to April 13th of this year with an arbitrary time of 11:15AM.

  • How can change the created date on a photo?

    Hi
I have imported photos that were originally taken in summer 2002 (and where dated as such), now they have been imported to iPhoto, the created and modified dated have changed to the date I imported them (14th Sept 06), therefore they are now sitting in the wrong years folders.
How can I move this pictures back to the correct folder i.e 2002/ I have tried amended the date in 'get info' however the date can't be changed.
    thanks
mini mac   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

I haven't tried moving photos among the 'years' folders, but you can alter a photo's date in the 'info' box that pops up at the lower left when you click on the "i" button down there. You can also change the date of an existing folder by the same means -- that will change the sort-order of the library.

  • AppleScript: Use EXIF to change "created date"

Here's the deal. I have a bunch of photos that I have imported and exported out of iPhoto which changed their "created date" in the Finder. However, their "capture date" is still the same in the EXIF data. I would like a quick AppleScript application that will update all of the "created dates" to match the "capture date".
I have found all of the AppleScript pieces, I just don't know any AppleScript to put them together.
For example, I found this piece of code that will change a file's "created date", so I know it can be done in AppleScript:
    on open files_
    display dialog "enter the new creation date in format YYYYMMDDhhmm ex: 200112251730:" default answer "" buttons {"Cancel", "Continue"}
    copy the result as list to {the newcreationdate, the button_pressed}
    repeat with file_ in files_
    tell application "Finder"
set file_ to POSIX path of file_
    do shell script "touch -t " & newcreationdate & " " & quoted form of file_
    end tell
    end repeat
    end open
I also have iMagine Photo installed, which can read EXIF data into AppleScript. (Here is their first help page, which is I am sure all you will need.)
I can tell AppleScript to read the EXIF data, and I can tell AppleScript to change a file's "creation date", I just don't know how to translate the information from one to the other. Can anyone help? Thanks a bunch!
    Matthew

You may have better luck if you post directly to the Applescript forum. I know just enough Applescript to be dangerous, so when I really want to get something right, I go to the forum and have always gotten wonderful help there:

  • What events change the Created field in, finder, get info

On my laptop, in finder, in the get info screen there are 2 fields the Created Date and Modified Date fields.
I was looking at these fields for an app that I use on my iPhone, it was listed in finder, so I clicked the get info option.
The created date and modified date were 10/16 both the same.
I have not used this app in a long time, my question is this.
What event changes the created field?  If the app was downloaded on the Iphone will the created field get updated in finder?
or if it was an update on itunes, would that change the created date in finder?
Does the created date mean that the app was downloaded and installed on that date?

Thank you so much.  That works just fine.  However, I also just discovered something.  Evidently, at least some of the fields in list view are editable.  By adding Grouping to the columns shown and clicking on the empty field, I was actually able to type whatever I needed into the field.
I have not yet tried it with other fields, but will do so to see if it works for all fields in the list view.

  • Change PDF Creation Date

I've got a folder full of old PDF files at work. They are all labeled DD-MM-YY to signify the date they were made but the pdf's were originally in Word format and when they were all converted to PDF's, they all took that day as their created date. I'm looking for a way to change the created date on these hundreds of PDF's to match the date in the file name. Is there an easy way to do this?

I figured I could write a script to do this but I'm not very good at scripting and I have no programming knowledge so I'm not sure how I would go about doing that.

  • Help in changing from iphoto to Bridge CS5

I am a mac user with an imac and a macbook pro and have added PS CS5.  My OS is 10.6.8 on my laptop.  How do I set or switch from iphoto to Bridge CS5 to store/catalog my photos?  Any help or tutorial would be appreciated.

How do I set or switch from iphoto to Bridge CS5 to store/catalog my photos?
There is a significant difference between Bridge and iPhoto. Bridge is a file browser and reflects the contents of the folders you point it to. iPhoto uses a central library to store the images in By default this library is hidden and only shows as a Package.
You first have to decide to use either iPhoto or Bridge as main application to manage your photo's, it is very hard to mix the 2 applications.
If you want Bridge for this you should create a new folder or folder structure where you can place the files in. For instance in your pictures folder but it can be located anywhere in your user account.
Then go to the pictures folder on your Mac (best use column mode for Finder windows) and choose the iPhoto Library file. When you use right mouse click menu on the library icon it shows an option called 'show package content'
This opens a new window and reveals the content of the library.
Now search for the folder called masters (or originals as I believe they called it in earlier versions) in list.
If you open this folder there will be a folder for each year you have add photo's to iPhoto.
In here are the original sized pictures nested.
Best way is just grab the year folders and be sure to copy them (instead of move, otherwise your originals will also be removed from iPhoto) to the new created folders where you want to point Bridge to.
After done point Bridge to a year folder and in the menu view choose 'show items from subfolders'. This will reveal all pictures in this year folder and starts caching them.
After caching is done you can choose to leave them in date folders as the have been created by iPhoto or start batch renaming and let Bridge get the shot date from Exif, etc etc. Organize, rename and add metadata keywords to the files the way you like.
If you use Photodownloader to import the new shot files you can point that to the wanted folder to be placed in.
    To many options to explain.
Be sure to have a Back Up and you can test what ever you like

  • HELP! "Image Date" = "Created Date" + 12 hrs Why?

Over Christmas and New Year's Eve, I took a number of images with a Kodak C663 digital camera. I am quite pleased with the camera, however, when I import the images, some of the images have Image Dates 12 hours later than the creation date.
    i.e.
Image Date: 12/31/2006 12:15:50 AM MST (CA)
Created Date: 12/30/2006 12:15:50 PM MST (CA)
The error in the Image date does not occur on all images, and the date on the camera was not change during that period. Quite perplexing.
Is there a way to correct the actual Image Date so that I can have the correct information in Aperture. I understand Timeature will change the date in Aperture Database, but I do not want that. I want to correct the actual data in the image file.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
    TIA
    * BTW - I can easily correct the image date in iPhoto, and the change does seem to carry over when I import the iPhoto Rolls to Aperture. So, as a workaround, if the image date is know to be wrong, importing into iPhoto and then into Aperture, may be a kludgy way to correct an images date.

As mentioned, previously, I am going with the iPhoto re-dating ability to resolve problems with Creation date. It seems to be the most reliable as I can address each photo's time shift.

  • Is it possible to change an item's create date manually?

When we upload some documents to PORTAL Content Area, Items' create Date is automatically set to sysdate. But our customer wants to preserve documents real creation date (in other system). Can we change this field manually after uploading documents or is there any other way to somehow give documents other date property? Many thanks...

The online help is a good place to start. Search the help for "custom attribute" or "custom item type". I also strongly recommend that you upgrade to Portal 3.0.9. There have been many bug fixes and enhancements between 3.0.6 and 3.0.9, and you'll need to be at 3.0.9 to upgrade to Release 2, when the R2 upgrade scripts are available.
