Help broken screen on new ipad

Am very upset with apple. One week old ipad fell and the screen broke. Apple store wants $300 to replace it. If I have 30 days to buy the applecare why am I not covered for 30 days? In addition my friend had hers replaced for $150 at the same store. Is there anything else I can do to fix the screen?

Well, it is expensive to repair because it is an expensive device to make in the first place.  Also, Apple actually does not do any in-house repairs to any iOS devices.  They exchange them for a factory refurbished unit, then ship the broken one off to the OEM for full factory refurbishment (same deal as most every mobile device seller - from Nook to Kindle to Samsung).  so the fee is a flat fee for any and all damage qualifying for an out of warranty exchange - for that fee the OEM refurbishes the unit, regardless of what it actually costs to do so (so they must loose out on some, but presumably come out even or at least a bit ahead in the long run).
And the insurance deal is precisely the way it is, to encourage those who want it in the first place, to walk out of the store with it in effect.  If you do not buy it with the device, you actually have to bring the device into an Apple store during the 30 day period to have it inspected for pre-existing damage before they will allow you to add AppleCare+.
Sorry it broke, but stuff happens, which is the reason for the existance of insurance in the first place.

I have just dropped my brand new iPad when the smart cover slipped.  Any ideas on cost to replace screen as it has shattered. Thanks in advance.

    Flat rate $299.
Actually, they won't replace the screen, they'll replace it.  The following is a C&P from the link that I gave you.
"If you own an iPad that is ineligible for warranty service but is eligible for Out-of-Warranty (OOW) Service, Apple will replace your iPad with an iPad that is new or equivalent to new in both performance and reliability for the Out-of-Warranty Service fee listed below."

  • How can I do mirroring of a screen from new iPad to hdtv using apple tv and still work on something else in my ipad

How can I do mirroring of a screen from new iPad to hdtv using apple tv and still work on something else in my ipad

You don't. Mirroring is duplicating your ipad screen on another projector - so you can't have another app going on your iPad without it also showing up on the projected image. Some apps are designed so that you see a different image in the iPad than the mirrored out display, but even then you're within the app itself.

  • My touch screen for new ipad broke down what can ido ?

my touch screen for new ipad broke down and i live in Saudi Arabia , what can i do ?

Does it not work at all ? Have you tried a reset to see if that fixes it ? Press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.

  • Help please with my new ipad 4 Retna.

Please help find a solution to my problem with my new ipad 4 Retna. The keyboard seems to have a mind of its own and keeps jumping up and down on the screen without any assistance from me.
I did have the screen replaced and I am not sure whether that is the reason or whether it is a known software problem as I had only had it for one day before the screen got broken.
It seems to settle down for a while. The longest it has been normal without a problem is 3 weeks and now it is doing the same thing again.
    Please anyone can you help.???

    The Basic Troubleshooting Steps are:
Restart... Reset... Restore from Backup...  Restore as New...

    Backing up, Updating and Restoring

If you try all these steps and you still have issues... Then a Visit to an Apple Store or AASP (Authorized Apple Service Provider) is the Next Step...

    Out-of-Warranty Service
If you own an iPad that is ineligible for warranty service but is eligible for Out-of-Warranty (OOW) Service, Apple will replace (Apple doesn't repair) your iPad with an iPad that is new or equivalent to new in both performance and reliability for the Out-of-Warranty Service fee listed below. (The replacement will most likely be a refurbished iPad in a brown box, however, it has a new screen, back and battery.)

    iPad mini
    $219
    iPad 3rd, 4th, Air

A $6.95 shipping fee will be added if service is arranged through Apple and requires shipping. All fees are in US dollars and are subject to local tax.

  • Can I calibrate the screen of new ipad

i just got an new ipad last week but i found out that the screen is greenish.(everything looks like there is a green layer on it)
i went to the apple store and borrow my friends new ipad to make sure it is really greenish.
there is no protective film on my ipad.
    so my question is,
    1) can i calibrate the screen color?
    2) if i bring my ipad to apple store, i do they check?
ps. you can not really see the greenish if you don't compare with other new ipads. but when you compare it, it's really obvious.

You can't calibrate the screen. Yes you can have the iPad checked at an Apple Store. If there is an obvious problem with the screen, your iPad will be replaced.
Have you tried rebooting the iPad?
Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.

  • I tried to fix my broken screen on my ipad 4 but now I've broken the retaining clip that holds the LCD ribbon in place nothing happens when switched on can apple store represent this even with the digitizer not stuck down yet ? cheers

I tried to replace the screen on my ipad 4 but now I have broken the retaining clip that holds the LCD ribbon in place. Do you if apple store would repair this even though I have not stuck the screen back on

Any warranty you had would have been voided by you trying to repair the iPad yourself but Apple will repair/replace your device for a fee:
    https://www.apple.com/support/ipad/repair/other/
    In your case $299
Set up an appointment with a Genius Bar and they'll go over your options.

  • Removeable Anti-Glare screen for new iPad?

To clarify, I am looking for something that is meant to be taken off and on. For those infrequent ocassions when I'm outside or in a very high light environment and want to read.  I do not want something that applies like a screen protector. I already have a clear screen protector.  What I have in mind would be a snapon plastic overlay that can be removed and stored in a briefcase.  I've seen some that stick on the border, but they have to be washed before reuse, whereas I'd rather go outside, pull the anti-glare overlay out of my briefcase or backpack, use a spritz of screen cleaner and a cloth, and snap it on.
I realize a rigid plastic overlay would affect touch responsiveness significantly, but as long as I could turn a page in iBooks, I'd be alright.  Basically, I'm trying to make my Kindle obsolete.
Does such a thing exist on the market?

Have you looked at the Moshi Screen Protector?
Its removable, can be washed, no-bubbles, and it doesn't have any glare at all. Its got a matte-finish.
I love the concept of this screen protector, but I found the screen to be a bit fuzzy. Definently worth trying out though.

  • The broken screen of my iPad, which AppleCare thinks is OK

In the last weeks, many times I were seeing some kind of color banding on the screen of my iPad 2, but I was unable to understand from were it comes from and how to reproduce it...
Then, last week, it happened that I closed Safari and opened Twitter... and I realized that next to my name I were able to see the address filed of Safari!
It took many minutes to go away, and it was visible also from other apps.
After successfully replicate the problem, next day I filled the repair request under warranty, and I even put the links of a couple of photos that showed the problem...
    Shipped it to Apple...
    Guess what?
Since the incompetent guy who test it was unable to replicate it, they sended me back this junk.
These are the photos that I had linked in the service request.
Before you ask I have put a grey wallpaper only to make a clear photo, of course I don't use it with it; but this overlays are visible also if I put a photo as wallpaper.
Here the links to the full size photos (only without EXIF):

Trust me that is really a pleasure the read the email that says that they ship back the original unit because it fully satisfy Apple specifications.
    For your pleasure (italian language):
I nostri tecnici hanno eseguito controlli diagnostici completi su IPAD 2 3G e non sono riusciti a riprodurre i sintomi indicati al momento della richiesta della riparazione. A seguito dei controlli effettuati possiamo confermare che il prodotto soddisfa le specifiche di Apple in materia di prestazioni, usabilità e funzionalità.
    So now:
    - I'm stuck with an iPad with a junk screen, which I simply refuse to use.
    - Apple says this screen it's ok.
    - Someone in Holland (AppleCare Service center for all Europe) is happy because it only took 2 days to close a service request from a (stupid) customer which takes photos of an inexistent problem.
    - The previous repair request (A57285105) is closed without any possibility to take contact and reply.
    - I can't (as today) open another repair request (and this time probably I will enclose in the package a CD with a video)
    - AppleCare phone support refuse to speak with me.
    - If none in Apple admits this shameful error and takes action for a quick fix, I will not get back a (really) working iPad 2 before Christmas.
    ... and so on.
    Really a shame.
It's also really a shame to remember that once upon a time this company was ruled by a guy who said "We don't ship junk".

There are some 3rd party repair places that will cost less, however, your Apple warranty will be voided.
You can take you iPad to an Apple Store & they will provide a replacement iPad. The cost will be about 1/2 the cost of a new iPad if out-of-warranty.
I've been in the same situation but luckily the Customer Service in Japan where we bought it is really nice (great!) they replaced the ipad with new one without paying any charge.
