Help - brush size stuck at 1px

I'm using Photoshop CS5 with a Wacom cintiq,
and the brush size is stuck at 1 px, it won't change size no matter what -
even if the brush size is set to 1000 px, the brush will paint a scraggly thin line..
I don't know what to do- anyone has any ideas how to fix this error?
I've changed brushes/ opacity/ flow/ pen pressure/ restarted photoshop/ restarted computer/ shut down, etc. It doesn't change
It works just fine in the mixer brush tool, but not the regular brush tool..
halp...

Solved: in the windows tab, brush options, "dual brush" needed to be de-selected...

  • [Help]Brush lagging when i chose big size, PS CS 6

    Hi eveyone
This is my first thread, sorry for my bad language.
I had a problem in brush tool, when i increase size brush tool become 31px - 2500 px it will become lagging, but in 30px - 1px not lagging
It just brush tool and another tool there is no lag like that.
I choose  another color still having lag, and the another tool no having like that.
    Layout size is A4 (27,8 x 21)
    Anyone can help this problem?
    Thanks

Some brush type tools require a lot of repetitive sequential processing as the brush tip pixels increase in number the latency can seem like for ever. For example smudge brush size, burn, dodge, blur. sharpen. Some filters like liquify will use your video card's GPU and their response may be nearly instant.  Some Brushes require the use of a GPU like the mixer brushes. Disable OpenGL and mixer  brushes are not an option. Mixing Paint reguire a lot of repetitive processing a which needs to be done in a sequence can not be done in parallel for the output and input depends the previous iteration and on the stroke's path, pressure and paint on canvas and on the brush. Even using a GPU a large mixer brush will lag some.

  • Brush size no longer showing up on cursor

Hi everyone. I use my brushes a lot, but I've just lost all ability to see, on screen, in real time, the outline of my brush; all I get is a cross, no matter how big or small my brush is. The same goes for my clone stamp tool, as well as my dodge and burn tools. PS is essentially useless to me like this because I cannot see the edge of where I am painting until afterward, when I see the effect. I cannot seem to fix it in preferences, and I have no idea how this happened. Can someone PLEASE help????? Thanks, Jeff

Thanks for the prompt reply. The problem is resolved, for now, anyway. It appears to have been something to do with my cursor preferences, just as we suspected. The curious thing is that I didn't knowingly make any adjustments to my cursor preferences until AFTER this problem appeared. After it appeared, I checked my preferences, and they looked correct. Nonetheless, out of desperation, I tried to change my cursor preferences anyway, but nothing I did seemed to have any effect. After I posted the question, I shut down PS, re-entered PS and noticed that my cursors had changed. They were still wrong, but at least they had changed. I set my preferences back to the correct setting, and the problem went away.
When I paint, I adjust brush sizes and opacity and toggle between foreground and background using keystrokes, instead of the mouse, so is it possible that I mistakenly changed my cursor preferences without even knowing it???? I didn't even think about or look at caps-lock. What would that do?
Anyway, it's sorted for now, which is a huge relief, but I do wish I knew what caused it in the first place, so that I could be sure that it won't happen again. Thanks again.

  • CHANGE BRUSH SIZE WITH CTRL and alt KEYS

    Hello everyone,
i'm on the road with my new macbook and i have a problem with setting up my wacom pen.
At home i use a iMac with CS5 and to change the brush size i press the alt and the ctrl key and move the pen to left/tight up/down to chang size and hardnes of the brush. I find this very handy!
On my new Macbook i have CC and i don't have the option to use this easy key combination, i was loking around and did some google, but i could not find the place to get the same settings on my macbook.
Is there anyone who can help me?
    Thank you very much.

When you press and hold Option/Alt  + Control  and Left mouse click and drag nothing happens?
(the button on your pen is set to left click?)
The Option/Alt key should always be the second key to the left of the spacebar
The Control key should always be the third key to the left of the spacebar

  • Why is Liquify Brush Size so Out of Proportion?

When I choose the Liquify option from the Filter menu, the Liquify tool opens and I have access to the custom set of Liquify tools. Unlike almost any other tool where you select a brush size, the Liquify tool requires you to modify the position of a slider rather than selecting the brush size dynamically by right-clicking.
The problem is that the brush size selector control goes from 0 to 15,000px diameter. In order to make effective use of a 15,000 pixel liquify push tool, you'd have to have a really large image. Perhaps there is a case where someone at some time used a 15,000 px diameter nudge brush in the Liquify tool, but in my nearly 20 years of using Photoshop, I have never come across the need for a brush that large.
Regardless, because the selector uses a linear scale, it is really difficult to select a small brush size (say less than 100px) without manually incrementing the slider.
I would really like to see Adobe standardize the tool size/preset selector so that it is always available via the context menu (or equivalent) and that an option exists to enable relative slider values or percentage slider values in incremental selectors like brush size. Percentages could be setup where 100% was the largest side of the current image and then brush sizes could be selected via percentage of your image (of course converting to pixels, but the scale would be percentage-based). Even an exponential scale that favored the smaller values would be helpful. Or perhaps, movable caps that would allow you to set your own Max and Min values....that would rock.
Are there are any plugins that solve this problem? Anybody have any advice on how I might be able to select more appropriately scaled brushes in the Liquify tool when I am working with images where a 15,000 pixel brush head is unreasonable.
Any input would be greatl appreciated.

    R_Kelly, thanks for the reply.
The problem isn't that there aren't enough ways to change the size fo the cursor, it's the relative scale of the cursor. I have two 37" Dell Ultra monitors on my desktop and to use the Alt-Right click method of resizing the brush (even on a 7500 pixel wide document at 300 dpi), I have to drag from one side of my dual monitor setup across 60 inches (whatever the horizontal width of a 37" monitor x2) about 50 times to get the brush to a size that I can actually see the outline of it.
Then, once I can see the outline of the Nudge Tool (in the Liquify tools), if I drag about 3 pixels, the visible outline of the brush wildly jumps from full-screen to tiny. It's because the scale of the brush size selector is a mess. 95% of the sizes in the selector are bigger than the piece that I am working on. Does that make sense? Why would you be able to select a tool size bigger than your document? Furthermore why would you want 95% of the available tool sizes to be unusable? It doesn't make any sense at all.
Thanks for the short reminder on brush size manipulation in general. I was surprised to see it work in the Liquify tool--though it didn't solve the issue.
    Best wishes,
    Jase

  • Detecting The Current Brush Size

    Hi all,
Is there anyway in javascript to detect the pixel size of the current brush? I want to use that value as a variable in a script.
    Thanks for any help.

    >
    > Is there anyway in javascript to detect the pixel size of the current brush?
It's fairly easy to set the current brush size via scripting listener code, but
reading the current value does not appear to be as simple.
If I had to do it, I would create a new (temporary) brush preset, save the
preset to disk, delete the temporary in-memory preset, then pick apart the saved
brush file to extract the brush size.
The last part is the only part that gets a bit tedious. The others can all be
taken care of via SL code. Or, even easier, the PresetsManager script in xtools.

  • How do you increase the Brush Size past 50 on the Stroke Effect?

    Hey Everyone,
I created a photo in Photoshop and I imported it to AE, and I've been trying to create a Spray Paint effect by using the Stroke effect and Reveal Original Image to look look like as if I'm spray painting the the picture on the wall. All is going well until I get to the brush size, and it only goes up to 50. Does anyone know how to increase it past 50? 50 is to small, it won't cover what I want it to cover for the stoke. I can't seem to figure out a way to get it higher than 50, and I don't know any other way to create the effect I'm trying to go for. Anyone know how to either get past this or know a different way to get make it look like I'm spray painting the picture on the wall? Any help at all would be great.
    Thanks in advance!
    -Raven

The After Effects CC (12.2) update increases the maximum size of the brush for the Write-on effect and Stroke effect to 200 pixels (from the previous maximum of 50 pixels).

  • Brush size in Flash?

I often need to zoom in on my cartoons so that I can make my details more precise. However, my brush size DOES NOT change proportionally to my canvas, and this makes my lines appear uneven and unprofessional. Yes, I understand how to change brush size, but I don't know how to keep it from changing the size when I zoom.

On the toolbar above the Fl logo click the two arrows to
widen out the toolbar and it will show two brush settings at the
bottom, the right one is the brush shape and left the size.
    Hope it helped.

Hello, who can help me? Since I have Photoshop installed CC works there the possibility to change the brush size by pressing the ctrl + alt key especially in the Liquify filter anymore. Anyone know the problem? The same problem I have with the zoom function. In PS 6 I was able to press the alt + space key and while moving the mouse in the image in or out back. also that no longer works?
I look forward to your feedback.

You are the greatest R_Kelly!  Now it works – THANK YOU!
But it´s still a mystery to me because the Graphic Processro was always activated.

then, when I copied your settings and made a restart, suddenly it works. ?

  • Brush size won't change with bracket keys?

Hey - I'm having an issue with Photoshop CC that I haven't encountered with previous versions of Photoshop (I've searched for solutions first - no luck). My shortcut keys for Brush size '[ & ]' stop working after choosing a different brush (even the default brushes). I can still use the Alt+mouse shortcut, but I'm old school and like using the brackets. I tried re-establishing my shortcuts in Preferences, but that did nothing. Suffice to say I'm quite frustrated as this has impacted the workflow I'm used to.
Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated - thanks in advance.

Thanks! It never occurred to me that caps lock would have any effect on brush cursors.

  • Eraser tool in Photoshop CS4 acts as if it is transparent when on brush or pencil mode. Block acts like its not transparent at all but there are no options for opacity, flow or brush size. Whats wrong and how to I make the brush and pencil eraser erase co

Eraser tool in Photoshop CS4 acts as if it is transparent when on brush or pencil mode. Block acts like its not transparent at all but there are no options for opacity, flow or brush size. Whats wrong and how to I make the brush and pencil eraser erase completely without having to go over it multiple times?
It started randomly about two weeks ago and I thought it was a glitch that would just go away. But now I am getting sick of using only the block eraser on one size. Help?

The easiest thing to start with is to reset the Eraser Tool.
Right click on the Eraser icon in the tool options bar and then click on Reset Tool.

  • What happened to viewing my brush size in latest Photoshop CC 2014 update

I am attempting to have Photoshop CC 2014 show me the brush size again for tools like Dodge, Burn, Paint, Clone, Healing and etc.  I did the October update and now all I have is a bold crosshair and no brush size shown.  I can change the size but not seeing the brush size on the screen.

This is not a photography question.  It is an application specific question,  Please post in the Photoshop forum.

  • Can't view brush size

I was practicing using the Elements 10 Spot Healing Brush, and it was working fine.  I closed out of Photoshop so I could go view some more tutorials.  When I opened it again, I was unable to see the physical size of my brush......in Spot Healing or in Clone.  It registered as a number in the upper bar, but I could not see the brush size as before.  I had been using the brackets to raise and lower the size before I lost the ability to view the physical size.
    Will certainly appreciate some help.

Do you have the Caps Lock on?

  • CS4 + CS5 Brush CURSOR outline disappear when increase the brush size

    Hi
In Photoshop CS4 and CS5, the outline of the brush cursor starts to disappear when you increase the brush size.
It's OK under 65px in diameter and it's start to disappear over 66px. In 438px the outline is a single dot and over 439px the cursor outline is completely gone!
I read that it's caused by the old drivers for the video card. I'm using GeForce 8800GT and I updated the driver with the latest version form the nVidia web site. The problem is still here!
    HELP?

I'm seeing a bit of a pattern of multiple people reporting problems with nVidia 8800 cards.  I'm thinking nVidia isn't testing new drivers against this particular model very intensively.  See my comments on video cards and drivers in this thread:
