Help - Can I Convert/import a PDF back into an InDesign doc?

Long story short: This is a document I originally created and the original was lost. The client now wants to make changes and re print. I would like avoid having to build the entire doc from scratch. I have the original Hi-res PDF that I retrieved from the printer.
Question:
1) Is there any way to convert/import this doc back into an editable Indesign Document?
Steve

Sorry Kids- was just having a bad day! To Kath: you are absolutely right -didn't even think about it, & checked it in MS Word with that word in wrong usage, just flew through! To Jongware: Sorry Bud, but plenty of help out there to solve that issue! To Scott: great link, had fun reading that one! Just got my second & third AAS degrees from local community college (Print & Graphic Design(updated to digital) at 53. And I was appalled at how many of our HS grads are not only receiving their diplomas but getting into college and cannot read at all! So I guess there will be much need for good proofreaders for the immediate future at least, Damn, must still be having that Bad Day relapse!! Have a great day all & sorry again for anyone I might have insulted, not my intention, if I were perfect, I wouldn't need to be here now would I? Les G

  • Can you convert a 3D object back into a 2D layer?

    I am drawing out a map of a world and need to design the poles while the layer is in a 3D sphere to prevent distortion. In CS5, I would turn the layer into a 3D.sphere, draw on it to map out the land masses, then turn it back into a 2D layer and refine. However, I can't seem to do this on CS6. Is there a way for me to do that?
    Thank you.

    double click on the sub layer of the 3d layer in the layer panel.  This should open the diffuse layer that you're working on.

  • Problem importing translated .inx back into original indesign CS4

    I have translated an INX export from CS4 in Trados 8, and now it is not possible to import the target INX in CS4 again. I have done this many times before and it never presented a problem like this, the target INX files always opened ok in CS4 again. When I try to import there is no error message, the import stops and stalls after a while when trying to import a link file, it never gets any further and I have to kill the indesign service. I have tried to redo the indesign completely copying text and images into a blank indesign file, retranslate the new inx, and the only difference is that it stops at a different link when trying to import. Please help, I'm desperate, thanks.
    Br/Jesper

    You might be out of luck. Trados writes directly into the INX, and if there's a tag that is not being closed correctly by Trados, InDesign can't read the INX. If your TMs are updated (sounds like they are) you can break the original INDD into parts, export those to INX separately, process those through Trados, and then try to reopen the INX files to see where the problem was, if it's a unique element on a particular page that Trados is breaking.
    (I've not used the latest Trados, and I'm not too terribly familiar with any version of Trados to be honest, as I'm an SDLX guy from way, way back. You might have better luck with a Trados community as opposed to an InDesign community - have you already tried?)

  • Script for Place PDF file into a InDesign file

    Hi everyone, i need to import a PDF file into a InDesign document and in order to do this i used scripts found over  the net (e.g. Zanelli's script ecc.) but i tried this solution:
    function(){
        app.scriptPreferences.userInteractionLevel = UserInteractionLevels.interactWithAll;
        var myDocument, myPage;
        if(app.documents.length != 0){
            myDocument = app.activeDocument;
        else{
            alert("No document opened");
            exit();
         if (app.selection[0] == undefined) {
            alert("Select box");
            exit();
         } else {
                var myPDFFile = File.openDialog("Select PDF:");
                if((myPDFFile != "")&&(myPDFFile != null)){
                    myDocument.viewPreferences.rulerOrigin = RulerOrigin.PAGE_ORIGIN;
                    myDocument.viewPreferences.horizontalMeasurementUnits = MeasurementUnits.MILLIMETERS;
                    myDocument.viewPreferences.verticalMeasurementUnits = MeasurementUnits.MILLIMETERS;
                    var myData = new Array;
                    myData[0] = app.selection[0].parentPage;
                    myData[1] = app.selection[0].geometricBounds;
                    myData[2] = app.selection[0];
                    myPlacePDF(myDocument, myData, myPDFFile);
        //FUNCTIONS
        function myPlacePDF(myDocument, myData, myPDFFile){
            var myPDFPage;
            var myPage = myData[0];
            var myGeometricBounds = myData[1].toString().split(",");
            app.pdfPlacePreferences.pdfCrop = PDFCrop.cropMedia;
            var myCounter = 1;
            var myBreak = false;
            while(myBreak == false){
                if(myCounter > 1){
                    myPage = myDocument.pages.add(LocationOptions.after, myPage);
                 app.pdfPlacePreferences.pageNumber = myCounter;
                 myRectangle = myPage.rectangles.add(undefined, undefined, undefined, {geometricBounds:[myGeometricBounds[0],myGeometricBounds[1],myGeometricBounds[2],myGeometricBounds[3]]});
                 myRectangle.clearFrameFittingOptions();
                 myRectangle.frameFittingOptions.fittingOnEmptyFrame = EmptyFrameFittingOptions.PROPORTIONALLY;
                 myRectangle.frameFittingOptions.autoFit = true;
                 myRectangle.frameFittingOptions.fittingAlignment = AnchorPoint.CENTER_ANCHOR;
                 myPDFPage = myRectangle.place(File(myPDFFile), false)[0];
                 if(myCounter == 1){
                    var myFirstPage = myPDFPage.pdfAttributes.pageNumber;
                else{
                    if(myPDFPage.pdfAttributes.pageNumber == myFirstPage){
                        myPage.remove();
                        myBreak = true;
                myCounter = myCounter + 1;
             myData[2].remove();
    what i would is, before the script place every single page of PDF file in the document, determine if the same page of the Pdf file is vertical or horizontal, to make the right section for the page.
    Is it possible?
    Thank you

  • Importing data file back into blank PDF - some data fields don't populate

    I have created a writable PDF in Adobe LiveCycle 8. Once the form is completed the person filling out the form submits by email. The email is successfully received and the data file is complete (opening it in a browser verifies this). However, when I use try to import the data back into the PDF file (by opening Adobe Pro | blank form | managage form data | import data - only some of the fields are populated. I need this data to repopulate the form so I can print it and I also need to export it to Excel for other purposes. What am I doing wrong?

    Check the binding on the fields that don't populate and see that it is set to something other than None.

    Dear Sir,
    I have forgotten my password of itunes, i have taken backup of contacts but is unable to restore . pls help i have my important data in back up.

    Thanks

    Encrypted backup?
    Read here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS5162
    If the backup you're trying to restore from is encrypted, you will not be able to use that backup if you can't remember the encrypted backup passcode.
    If on a Mac, & you elected to save the passcode to your Keychain, you can recover the passcode from your Keychain. Otherwise, your backup data is unrecoverable.
    While you can continue to sync/backup, if you can't remember it & want to remove it, you'll have to delete your existing backups, & restore your phone as a new device.
    You delete your existing backups here: iTunes>Preferences>Devices.

    How can I import a pdf file into a spreadsheet so that it will open with a click?

    You can link to a webpage or an email in Numbers-- that's it.
    The best way I found to do this is to enable websharing on your machine (see this article if you are running 10.8: http://lowendmac.com/crews/12lc/web-sharing-mountain-lion.html)
    You can then place your pdf files in the folder /Users/<your user name>/Sites/<somefolder>
    Then link to this using the url  "<your machine name>.local/~<your user name>/<somefolder>/<pdf Name>
    My machines name is "Proton" (you can get this from the System Preferences > Sharing pane)
    My user name is "wayne"
    so I stored a pdf file (DM00027543.pdf) in the folder "/User/wayne/Sites/PDFTest"
    and stored the URL "http://proton.local/~wayne/PDFTest/DM00027543.pdf" in the "URL" field of the Hyperlink inspector

  • Importing one Pdf document into another.

    I am trying to import one Pdf-document into another using a Reference XObject. I am looking at thePDF- specification, and I thought I was doing things the right way, but its not working. The PDF-specification doesen't have an example of how to do this, only an explanation.
    Below is the PDF-file I am testing with (if anyone can be bothered looking at it   ). The file embeds another pdf-file, and is supposed to show a part of the embedded file at a certain position.
    Again, if anyone can be bothered looking at my PDF and see if they can see what I am doing wrong here I would appreciate it.
    (There is nothing wrong with the embedded file itself...)

    PDF is a binary format. The most important piece in a PDF file is the cross
    reference table. It contains byte offsets to the different objects in a
    file. If you insert just one space (which in a true ASCII file will not
    change much), you are making all byte offsets after the insertion point
    invalid. They now all point to something different than the start of an
    object.
    Because there is no standard about how line endings are encoded in text
    files, every time may add (or subtract) a byte - depending on what computer
    system and what editor you use to convert your PDF to fake-ASCII, and then
    again what I use to try to convert it back to PDF. If you are using a
    Windows system and I'm using a Mac, the cross reference table gets
    corrupted. And that's even before the web server does it's magic and
    potentially adds data.
    If you want somebody to look at your file.
    Have you looked at the post I linked to? The settings in Acrobat are
    important. You need to enable Reference XObjects, AND you have to declare
    the directory where your target file is stored as trusted.
    From what I can see in your PDF code, you are doing a whole bunch of cm
    operations. You may want to consolidate all those into one operation. I
    have not done a detailed analysis, but you could potentially shift your
    data off the page. Keep it simple and see if that makes a difference.

  • How to import a PDF form into FormsCentral

    Hi,
    Please help me in How to  import a PDF form into FormsCentral.
    Thanks,
    Techvedic

    Hi Techvedic,
    Import of form in Formscentral depends on how it was created. If you used LiveCycle designer to create the original form then it cannot be imported. However, if the form is created in Acrobat then you can import it by clicking on Import PDF form under Create New form heading.
    Note: In the imported form you may edit the position of the submit button, but other design edits to the imported form will need to be made in the tool used to create that form.
    Hope that helps, let me know if you have any other question.
