Help! Can I recover my Lightroom edits after renaming source folders and re-syncing?

My source files were a mess, so I went in and roughly organized them, creating folders and grouping them by type. I figured I could just re-link the offline files back in LR.
In Lightroom, I right-clicked on my root photo folder and chose "Syncronize Folder" - what I didn't realize is that it seems to have deleted what I had and reimported it again. So my problem is that all my Lightroom edits on these files are now gone. All I have are raw, untouched pics.
I backup regularly. Is there a way to restore my edits? All the underlying filenames are the same.

If you have your backups then you still have all your edits included in the xmp files. Now all you have to do is to match the actual files with their edits (xmp files).
I`m afraid you`ll have to do it manually because since you radically changed your structure by creating folders and subfolders using the Mac OS instead of doing it from within Ligthroom (you know you can do that from Lightroo, don`t you?).
For example, let`s say you have a file named "_MG_8111.CR2" which looks like it`s untouched now. If you can find its own xmp file named "_MG_8111.xmp" in your backup, just copy it to the same folder with "_MG_8111.CR2".
If you open Lightroom and syncronize the folder again your edits will be visible again. I would suggest to try it first with one or two images and when you`re positive everything is OK continue with all the other ones.

Hi Josh
If you rename files or folders using Finder, then Lightroom will no nothing about it and you will have broken the original links in the database. Always rename, move etc, within Lightroom.
Is the original folder still showing up, with missing files? If so you could try to get the files back to their original state on the hard drive and then re-connect the missing files - the thumbnails will have the missing file icon. If you have deleted the original folder; then your only hope is to use a previous catalog backup to turn the clock back.

How can Automator or Applescript rotate 500,000 images in folders and subfolders.

I have very specific question.
I've got 500,000 images that sit in 98 subfolders. Some of the subfolders contain 25,000 images.
Now my question: is there any script/automator workflow that I can use?
I was trying to create a workflow:
1. Ask for Finder Items
2. Get Folder Contents (tick repeat for each subfolder found)
3. Rotate images
It works OK, but only for these folders where there is less than 4,096 files:
I normally receive following error message:
'Rotate images failed - 1 error
too many arguments (12019) -- limit is 4096'
Is there any way to increase this limit or create completely different apple script?
I really hope that someone will help me with this one.

well, there are a couple of possibilities here:
system events is quitting (it will do that on its own after a few minutes of inactivity) and he script is getting confused when it has to restart
the file 00353391301.JPG is not a valid image file (corrupt data, or an unsupported file format with the wrong extension, or the wrong type of file entirely, or something like that).
so, covering the bases, try this revision:

This makes three changes - it tells Image Events not to quit itself during script execution, it expands the error handling block to cover all the Image Events functions (this will report more detail and not interrupt further processing), and as a convenience labels any problematic file orange in the finder so it's easier to find.
Also, I should point out that adayzdone and ludwip are presenting orthogonal approaches (one that finds files using the unix 'find' utility rather than mdfind, and one that's entirely unix-based using the underlying sips utility). Treat each approach as its own thing; don't get confused and try to implement parts of each of them. People on this forum sometimes forget how confusing help can be when helpers are working off of different models and fail to thoroughly contextualize their posts.

How can I Recover an iMovie project after the program shuts down unexpectedly?

I was working on an iMovie when the program shut down unexpectedly. I had worked on this project many times before and it always showed up in my project library. After the shutdown, however, I tried to open up the project and it is no longer in the project library. I can find it in the finder but when I click on it, it will open iMovie but the project is not listed. It has to be in there somewhere! How can I recover it? Please hlep!

The recent update to iMovie '11 (to version 9.0.9) may have fixed this, but it's impracticable to test, given the random nature of the problem.
The best solution is to always have Time Machine running when editing in iMovie. Also, with larger projects, it's a good idea to duplicate the project from time to time. To duplicate, while in Project Library view (where all your projects are listed), select File > Duplicate Project. Project files are relatively small, as they mainly reference the associated Event (or Events), as well as keeping track of your edits, titles, transitions, music and so forth.

Restore depends on a source of data from which to restore. BB provides plenty of FREE methods to backup your data and thereby protect that priceless resource. If you did not avail yourself of that, then you have migrated from the latter to the former in this old saying...there are 2 kinds of computing device users -- those who have lost data, and those who will. Backups, like insurance, are neither a reactive nor an optional activity.

Help - I transferred my entire 23,000 photo library from iPhoto 06 on a G4/Tiger to a 2009 Mac Pro running the current version of iPhoto. I used firewire with the G4 in target disk mode and manually transferred the files over. Seem to have transferred most of the photos well (though I need to investigate a number of photos in a new "Recovered" folder).
Now, on launching iPhoto 06 on the G4 I am told I somehow made changes to the photo library using the newer version of iPhoto. Am I screwed (b/c the latest version of iPhoto requires Leopard, which won't run on my ancient G4)? How can I recover the ability to use iPhoto 2006 on the G4?

How did you do this? the porper way is to drag the iPhoto library as a single entity from the G4 to the MBP then launch iPhoto on the MBP

Did you? if you dragged the library to the pictures folder of the new computer and launched iPhoto then you did not change your original library

That depends on what happened - nothing you described would have modified your original library - is there more to tell?
You can try rebuilding the iPhoto 6 library using iPhoto library manager - http://www.fatcatsoftware.com/iplm/ - it will create a totally new library so if it does not work you lose nothing

index.dat is not one of the files used by Firefox, that is for Internet Explorer. You may need to contact Facebook to get access to your account again.
Once history and cookies are deleted in Firefox they can not be recovered.

My laptop was running perfectly well till yesterday. today when i opened my laptop there was a HP update required massage window I pressed O.K as always. After a while when update was completed it has put a funny wall paper on my lap top, and worse, my internet browser has been removed. I changed my browser back to Mozilla Firefox, but now I lost all my bookmarks and its toolbar.
I also lost all my user I.Ds and password linked to these I.Ds. Now how can I recover this information? I did ran system recovery couple of time from last months dates but I still unable to get the setting of my orignal browser.

You want to restore your files after a refresh.
Once you have run a refresh on your PC everything that was not preinstalled on the system is deleted.
The only way to get the information back on your PC is to have a backup of everything on an external drive.

Music Files Deleted After Hard Disk Failure and First Sync After Hard Disk

I recently had a hard disk failure and lost all of the data on my hard drive. I replaced the hard drive and reinstalled all of the software including iTunes. I am running Windows XP Home. The first time I plugged my iPod Nano into my computer after the hard drive replacement it synced to iTunes and since iTunes had no music files it deleted all of the music files on my Nano. How do I get them back and why on earth would iTunes do such a stupid thing??? My Nano contained many songs that I bought from iTunes and I want to get them back. I have found some third party software that will undelete the deleted files but it costs $69. I don't feel that I should have to pay to correct a defective feature in iTunes. Does Apple have an undelete utility? Can I redownload the songs that I purchased from iTunes?

When you connected did you get a message that your iPod was linked to another library, and then press Erase and Sync? When an iPod is set to update automatically and you connect to a computer with an empty iTunes and accept the message above it will erase the originals completely (as you have discovered). Also as you've seen, none of the recovery programs are particularly cheap so you have to decide if in your particular circumstances it's worth it to get your songs back. It may be if you have a lot of purchased tracks which you will have to pay to download again. If they came primarily from your CDs then it's most likely not as you can re-rip them.

You need to restore your iPad from your most recent backup in iTunes to get back your settings and app data. If you can't find a backup, your data may be lost. If you'll tell us what OS your computer is running, we can tell you where to look for the backup files.
Your music, videos, apps and books from the iTunes Store should be in iTunes and can be synched back, but if not for some reason, you can download them again:
