Help! Can't Burn CD's

I'm having a weird thing happen when I put a blank CD in my PowerBook G4. Instead of being able to drag and drop files to burn. First it asks if I would like to open Disk Utilities, then after selecting that and selecting the CD the "Burn" option is grayed out. It shows that the Write Capacity is Read Only and the Total Capacity is O Bytes, which is not correct. It is at this point I'm stuck. I've talked to a few friends about this and they are dumbfounded as to what exactly is happening. I thought this is supposed to be easy. I was really looking forward to using this feature of the computer, I have an external burner on another maching but this was supposed to be a breeze.
Any ideas???

Burn MP3 CD problem, need help can't burn most songs

I have copied many of my music CD's into my computer and imported them into itunes. Works great on my ipod. However my car has a MP3 CD player. So I have been trying to burn MP3 CD's for the car. Followed the instructions in itunes. But here is the catch. Only about 10% of my music actually burns to the disk out my my selecetd play list. The disk is mostly empty. I realize that itunes purchased music can't be burned, but most of my old CD can't be burned either. Soemthing is wrong. Wrong format? I just load a music CD and click the import CD button. Realy easy to import. But can't burn it in MP3. Appreciate any help.

The files are most likely imported as AAC (iTunes default).
When you select to burn an MP3 CD, iTunes will only burn those files that are already in MP3 format. It will not convert them as it burns.
You need convert them first to MP3, create a playlist with these MP3 files and burn it.

Help- Can't burn backups

I cannot get iTunes to back up my library to discs. I have an iMac and am using 10.3.9 and version 7.1.1 of iTunes. Here is what is happening:
I open iTunes and got to File- Back up to disc
I select back up entire library.
My CD/DVD tray pops open and it says to insert media.
I put in a DVD and close it. At the top of the window it says "Checking Media"
Then, the tray opens- the window still says checking media. I tried putting in another DVD and just got the same thing.
The instructions for doing this said that if more than one DVD was needed a dialog box would open up. That never happened. I know I need more than one DVD. I have almost 20 gig of music!
Can anyone help? Has anyone else experienced this?

PS- I did go into preferences and change the burning pref to data instead of audio.

Jenn, I've had a similar problem and couldn't find a fix. It then started to happen that I couldn't burn any DVD's on my Superdrive whether from iTunes or Toast.
I eventually found out that the Superdrive will only support DVD writing up to 4x and I had bought 16x discs. As 4x are becoming increasingly difficult to find I ended up buying an external writer and all is fine.
If your problem ends up being the same as mine I think the only fix would be a firmware upgrade for the drive by Apple, but this seems unlikely to happen. There are a few people having problems with CD/DVD writing on certain machines so it may well be worth checking out that forum also.

Help - can't burn DL DVD+R discs

I just purchased a spindle of Memorex Dual Layer DVD+R discs to backup some of my project folders that are too large for single layer DVDs.However, I am getting the following error message at the start of every time I try to burn a disc.
"The disc can’t be burned because because communication between the computer and the disc drive failed (error code 0x80020022)."
I've been reading that others are also having a problem with burning DL-DVDs. Is this a drive problem or a media problem?
After the first 2 tries, I checked the "About this Mac" and saw that under "Disc Burning" it said I have a MATSHITA DVD-R UJ-868 drive and that for both CD write and DVD write it says -R -RW. Does that mean it doesn't support +R discs or DL discs.
I went back to the tech spec page for the MacBook Pro that I have (I bought it 3-1/2 months ago, so it's still new and should have the same specs listed, and there it states the specs as "Maximum write: 8x DVD-R, DVD+R; 4x DVD-R DL (double layer), DVD+R DL (double layer), DVD-RW, DVD+RW; 24x CD-R; 10x CD-RW"
So what is the issue here, and is there a fix for this?

Your drive, as the specs say, should be able to burn +R discs.
As Bram has suggested , when only -R discs appear under system profiler this can usually be rectified by simply resetting the PRAM, and sometimes simply by restarting normally, though on rare occasions some level of OS re-installation can also be required.
Those Memorex discs are a bit of a worry , too, though. Generally you are better off sticking with Verbatim, Maxell or TDK with Apple drives. Memorex have a somewhat unfortunate reputation for compatibility problems, I'm afraid, though it depends which actual third party manufacturer has supplied them with your particular batch to some extent.
But you will need to sort out the "-R only" problem first regardless. Once you have done this you may find that your particular batch of Memorex are fine. I'd be very wary about buying them for your Mac in future , though.

Help! i upgraded my itunes to 7.0.2 and I can't burn my mp3's?????

I am having the same problem like many other posts as to burning mp3's on the latest version of itunes.
my itunes was working fine till i downloaded the latest version and i tried to burn some songs that i even downloaded from itunes. i am having 2 major problems:
(1) when i try to burn a playlist that i purchased from itunes it starts off like it's going to intitalize the burn then a warning pops up stating that 'none of the files can be burned to mp3 cd' then i click on the arrow to see the reason why i can't burn and it states 'itunes store files cannot be burned to an mp3 cd'. this has never happened before i have downloaded music from itunes before and never had this problem.
(2)the second problem i am having is the songs that my itunes will allow me to burn ( mostly transfered from my personal cd's and other downloads) burn in the usual manner but the don't play on my cd player....at all. i am using the correct cd's and my stereo is playing other burned cd's fine. the stereo is not old and i don't have any problem burning other files to cd. i tried everything...i even bought new blank cd's and i'm still having the problem. what is it? and how can i fix it.
please help if anyone has any advice!!!!

No version of iTunes has ever allowed you to burn songs from the iTunes Store to MP3 CD.
I think you need to change your burning setting in Preferences > Advanced > Burning to Audio CD.

I can not burn CD's with my Itunes anymore. It tells me I am missing CD burner and to re download ITunes. I have done that and it stills does not work. Every time I try, Disc Recorder not found keeps coming up! Please someone help me!!!

Also when I open itunes it gives me a warning and says "The registry settings used by the itunes drivers for importingand burning cd's and dvds are missing. Please reinstall itunes."
With that one let's first try a reboot and repair.
Reboot the PC (very important), and the do a *repair install* of iTunes.
Go to your "Add or Remove Programs" control panel, select iTunes, click "Change" and then click "Repair".
Does iTunes launch without the error message now?
If no luck there, try checking for a device filter conflict in your registry:

I Can't Burn a CD any more! and a lower speed does nothing - HELP!

I have been burning CDs on this machine (imac 10.3.9) the same way for years and years. (7)
Up till last month.
This is what I get when I burn a playlist.
"itunes can not burn this cd because your burn speed is too fast for you cd burner or media. Choose a lower speed in the burning pane then try burning again."
I've tried that - even though that seems silly considering I've had no problems at my current settings until now. The lowest burn speed (1) gives me the same error.
I'm hating life and my mac right now, something I though I'd never say.
Anyone?

If you don't have Nero, check out http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=9229334#9229334. I think some people have found a way to get just the Burn Rights program.
If that doesn't work, some people seem to have luck with editing the registry or messing with filters or gear drivers. Check out this discussion starting with Tytus (he came up with the Nero fix) on March 22:

Can't burn iPhoto slideshow to a DVD. Can you help?

I have made a slide show from photos in iPhoto. It works fine and I have published it to my "me gallery". I now want to make a DVD of this slideshow. I have tried to use an old version of Toast and I get an error message after the slideshow has been formated and "supposedly" burned. I've tried to burn it from the iTunes application and that doesn't work either. Can anyone help?

The only way to get a slideshow into iDVD with the transitions, music, etc. that you see in iPhoto is to use the "Create" button in iPhoto to create the slideshow:

Then create the slideshow in the slideshow mode and use the Export button at the bottom to export the slideshow at a QT movie.

Since iDVD resized media down to 640 x 480 choose the size closest to that, but larger. Then open iDVD, select your theme and drag the movie into the menu being sure to avoid any drop zones.
Once you have the project as you want it save it as a disk image via the File ➙ Save as Disk Image menu option. This will separate the encoding process from the burn process.
To check the encoding mount the disk image and launch DVD Player and play it. If it plays OK with DVD Player the encoding was good and you can then burn to disk with Disk Utility at the slowest speed available to assure the best burn quality. Always use top quality media: Verbatium, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R are the most recommended in these forums.

Fixed. /Users/x/Library/Application Support/SIMBL/Plugins/AirKeysInputManager.bundle got corrupted by a badly installed safari extension. Deleting this, then reinstalling adobe air did the trick. I wasn't thorough enough on my first try, it was tricky to find everything associated. I had to look for files in the console log then search for them. Spotlight was missing some deep files, EasyFind worked better for me.

CAN'T BURN after paying and downloading! HELP!

i paid for my downloads and they show up in my library, but when i drag them into a playlist folder and try to burn a cd, it says it can't burn....error.

I'd start with the following document, with one modification. At step 12 after typing GEARAspiWDM press the Enter/Return key once prior to clicking OK. (Pressing Return adds a carriage return in the field and is important.)

Help!!!! How can i burn my song to cd?

I can't burn my songs to a cd. First off, there is no option to burn showing on itunes. all i see is search option, view, the controls and speaker volume. I need help reel fast 'cause i'm using the song for a gig tomorrow.

put the song(s) you want on the cd in a certain playlist first. buttom right corner of your scrren(when your in the playlist) you should see a burn disc button. hope this helps

Could you post your diagnostics for us please?
In iTunes, go "Help > Run Diagnostics". Uncheck the boxes other than DVD/CD tests, as per the following screenshot:
... and click "Next".
When you get through to the final screen:
... click the "Copy to Clipboard" button and paste the diagnostics into a reply here.
