Help! Can't connect to internet or reset clock after Java update.

Software update just installed the update Java SE 6 to 1.6.0_20 on my Mac Mini with Snow Leopard 10.6.3. After the restart I got a warning: "Your computer's clock is set to a date before Jan. 1, 2008. This may cause some applications to behave erratically." NO Kidding!
Immediately after that warning window appears another one comes up saying "None of your preferred networks is available" and it shows the listing of all the internet network names in my area. If I select mine (which is listed AND is available because I'm using it with my other computer right now) I can't click on the "join" button because it's "grayed out".
If I go to "Network Diagnostics" and attempt to connect through there it rejects my WPA password. WHY IS IT THAT I HAVE TO GO THROUGH SETTING THIS UP ALL OVER AGAIN ANYWAY???
Also I cannot put in the correct Date and Time in system preferences because it's all grayed out.
Do I need to uninstall? How? I greatly appreciate your help!!

"Zapping the PRAM" was something I used to do on my old power mac before OSX. Maybe that's not related to your PRAM battery statement, tho. This is a new Mac Mini, less than a year old. I'm guessing that the problem is with this JAVA update is NOT compatible with Snow Leopard 10.6.3, but that was never mentioned in info/details of the update. My Mac was running great online and off before I let the Software Updater install.

  • Can't connect to Netflix: Sudden HDCP error after software update

I have been unable to connect to Netflix after I updated the apple tv software. I have tried the suggested remedies: unplug/replug HDMI cables; swap out HDMI cables; turn apple tv and tv on and off; reset; among others...Worked fine with my TV until the update. What the deuce? Can anyone help?

I am using the same Sharp Aquos LCD TV set and same ATV With the same apple HDMI cable that I have been using for years with sleek functionality and great enjoyment ....
There are two factors though - to consider -
    1) the remote has been somewhat sluggish lately
    2) The day before all of this happened I had removed the HDMI CABLE From my TV in order to put the Hdmi adaptor that connects through the mini DVI ( I think that is how it is called ) to my 2008 White MacBook. I wanted to watch a French Region DVD.
To my surprise , it did not work , but I thought that maybe the cable has suffered damage and I haven't used it for a long time.
I wonder if the connection in my TV is at fault. that can be checked tonight on another TV.
If that does not work I'll change the battery in the remote
And if none of this works , I'll buy another ATV.
Any success will be posted. but I have a nagging feeling now that my TV might be the cause of all this trouble.

  • I can't connect to MySQL getting Error #2002 after I updated php

I'm on a mac and I updated my version of PHP and installed the GD library.
The problem is that I needed up date my connection to the database or something to that affect so I ran this command line:
    sudo mkdir /var/mysql
    sudo ln -s /private/tmp/mysql.sock /var/mysql/mysql.sock
And it worked... but then I restarted my computer and now I can't connect and I'm getting the error I had of...
#2002 - The server is not responding (or the local MySQL server's socket is not correctly configured)
So I tried the above two lines of code and it said those files/directory exist.
    I went into /etc/php.ini file to change this mysql.default_socket = /var/mysql/mysql.sock
So what do I need to do here to change this permanently?

Reinstall OS X without erasing the drive
    1. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
    2. Reinstall Snow Leopard
If the drive is OK then quit DU and return to the installer.  Proceed with reinstalling OS X.  Note that the Snow Leopard installer will not erase your drive or disturb your files.  After installing a fresh copy of OS X the installer will move your Home folder, third-party applications, support items, and network preferences into the newly installed system.
Download and install Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1.

  • The wi-fi button on my iPad 2 is not functioning.  I have tried resetting the network, worked for 5 minutes. Am not able to connect to internet to reset to factory.  What else can I do?

The wi-fi button on my iPad 2 is not functioning.  I have tried resetting the network, worked for 5 minutes. Am not able to connect to internet to reset to factory.  What else can I do?

Try this  - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.) No data/files will be erased. http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1430
    Some things to try first:
    1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
    2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
    3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at
    http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
    4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
    5.  Renew IP Address: (especially if you are drooping internet connection)
        •    Launch Settings app
        •    Tap on Wi-Fi
        •    Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list
        •    In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

Note - When troubleshooting wifi connection problems, don't hold your iPad by hand. There have been a few reports that holding the iPad by hand, seems to attenuate the wifi signal.
Some Wi-Fi losses may stem from a problematic interaction between Wi-Fi and cellular data connections. Numerous users have found that turning off Cellular Data in Settings gets their Wi-Fi working again.
You may have many apps open which can possibly cause the slowdown and possibly the loss of wifi. In iOS 4-6 double tap your Home button & at the bottom of the screen you will see the icons of all open apps. Close those you are not using by pressing on an icon until all icons wiggle - then tap the minus sign. For iOS 7 users, there’s an easy way to see which apps are open in order to close them. By double-tapping the home button on your iPhone or iPad, the new multitasking feature in iOS 7 shows full page previews of all your open apps. Simply scroll horizontally to see all your apps, and close the apps with a simple flick towards the top of the screen.

  • Just got new ipad2 and can't connect to internet...recognizes wifi network but won't connect

just got a new ipad2...recognizes wifi network at home, but can't connect to internet...help???

I just had a similar problem.  Both the ipad 1 and ipad 2 in my household quit connecting to the network even though it seemed to recognize it.  if you think it is recognizing your network, just not connecting, check to see if bluetooth is turned on.  i had to turn bluetooth off and then manually enter the DNS number.
My solution also came after I re-started my network and reset all the settings on the ipad2.  The DNS number then showed along with IP submet Mask and router.  I used that dns number to enter into ipad1 after turning bluetooth off on it.
Totally unscientific fix that may have been more coincidental than correct but you might try it.  BTW--no idea how bluetooth even got turned on to begin with.

  • IPhone 5 and 5c can't connect to Internet every 1 or 2 days with iOS 8.0.2

After having upgraded my iPhone 5 and my wife's iPhone 5c to iOS 8.0.2, they both can't connect to Internet every 1 or 2 days.
They can't connect via wifi neither via 3G.
If I restart the devices they start to connect again.
I tried to reset the network settings and also to restore the devices from scratch via iTunes like the Apple support suggested me,  but the issue still persists.
I'm very frustrated also because I bought to my wife an iPhone telling her she wouldn't have had all the issues she used to have on a previous Samsung smartphone...
Anyone has having the same issue?

After the update, try resetting your cellular network settings on the phone. Make sure the airplane setting is correct and try shutting it on and off to see if that works.
    See if that helps.
    Good Luck!

  • WRT54G can''t connect to internet or 192.168.1.1

My router used to work. I updated the firmware to 4.21. xx and after that I can't connect to internet.
When I connect directly to modem, I can go to the internet . I power recycled etc but when I connect to the router, it says limited connectivity.  It shows autoconfigurtion ip:169.254.251.135
I don't know why this is so.
I don't have the setup cd disk but I read the users' guide and it seems that I really don;t  need the cd. But no matter what I do , I can't get to 192.168.1.1 .
Do I need a setup cd and where I can download?
    Any help is appreciated.
    Thanks ,

Do the 30/30/30 Hard Reset and then check the IP address on that computer. For the reset steps do the following:
The following procedure will clear out the NVRAM and set Router back to default values:
With the unit powered on, press and hold the reset button on back of unit for 30 seconds
Without releasing the reset button, unplug the unit and hold reset for another 30 seconds
Plug the unit back in STILL holding the reset button a final 30 seconds....
If still you are getting same IP address then try to reduce the LAN card speed. Here is the step:
START--> right-click My Network Places and click Properties
right-click on the device and click properties
    Click on the CONFIGURE button
Select the ADVANCED tab and the settings you can alter are listed on the left.

  • Can't connect to internet on my old g4 flat screen, network + airport ok

I installed an airport card on the g4 (dome) and connected to our wireless network, which gets a signal, (though the status is "not available"). I can't connect to internet (server not recognized), and every time I check the internet assistant app, the setting has been changed back to modem. The router is in the basement: my iMac is on the first floor and works fine, the g4 is on the second floor. Is that too far away? Do I need to update the g4? Two minis also work fine, one on first floor and one in basement. Any help appreciated.

Which iMac G4 do you have? Some iMac G4s are 802.11b while the later ones were 802.11b/g.
If your wireless network is configured for "802.11g only", the older 802.11b iMac G4 won't be able to connect.
If your wireless network is configured for "802.11n only", the iMac G4 won't be able to connect since it isn't compatible with that.

I have a PPPOE ISP account. Before upgrade to Lepoard, just fine. Now I can only connect to internet using cable via my router moderm. I cannot connect my wireless router.
The wireless router will appear to be connected but it said self assigned IP. If I hardcode an IP eg. 192.168.11.2 to it. The Airport status will become connected but still cannot dial into my PPPOE account. An message no PPPOE service will appear. But if I plug in the LAN cable, everything work fine. Why this happen? My wireless router work fine with my Window XP and my Mac (before upgrade to Lepoard) What configuration should I change? I am an idot to networking. I have download all patch and has tried boot to safe mode etc.
    Anyone can help?

By power downs do you mean Sleep?
One thing that might work is to set the IP to Static in Network>Configure IPv4>DHCP with Manual Address.

  • Can't connect to internet via MacBook Pro to Airport Extreme

I can't connect to internet via MacBook Pro to Airport Extreme. I reset AE and modem (power down and back up again). Some computers on my home network will connect fine and others won't. The ones that won't don't populate the DNS server or the Search Domains. AE shows up on all the machines. I have one computer also connect to AE via ethernet and it has the same symptoms. Why do some Macs connect and others don't. Even when I get them to connect when I shutdown or put in sleep mode over night I lose the internet connection and have to start all over. Very frustrating.

Regrettably no replies. I have struggled with this for days with no success and I have given up on the Airport Extreme. I have found several other Forum posts with very similar problems and no one seems to have a solution to this. It seems other wireless routers work better than the Apple product. I was able to get my old Linksys wireless router reset and it is set up and working well. The Linksys router does populate the DNS servers and domains where as the AE does not. Apple engineers should look into this. If I am mistaken and there is a fix for this someone please let me know, otherwise my AE will probably appear on Ebay very soon.
