Help!! can't get my airport express to connect to my network

I have set up my airport express to connect to my network so I can play itunes with it but it says that the Airport has been set up but cannot connect To my network. I've tried it on both my computer and my wife's computer and we have the same problem. I have been able to connect in the past with my Airport express that I had for this one but for some reason I can't seem to connect it using this airport express. Any help would be much appreciated.

When joining a non-Apple WEP encrypted wireless network with an AirPort, you must use one of two different styles for password entry depending on whether the network is protected with an ASCII or HEX key.
ASCII password
If using a password that is plain ASCII text, use the double quotation mark (") before and after the password. These are case-sensitive, and they are at least five characters long for 40-bit encrypted networks or at least 13 characters long for 128-bit encrypted networks.
Hexadecimal password
If using a password that uses only the hexadecimal range of characters, add a dollar sign ($) before the password. These passwords are at least 10 characters long for 40-bit encrypted networks or at least 26 characters long for 128-bit encrypted networks.

  • Can,t get the airport express to see my wireless network

like I said in the subject. I have Verizon Fios. and I have to use there router which is WEP. I have run the airport utility but still no Luck. Can anyone help?

Copied this from another post hope it helps?
Unfortunately, most non-AirPort routers are not compatible with Apple's implementation of Wireless Distribution System (WDS)...so it very unlikely that your Verizon wireless router can be extended wirelessly with the AirPort Express Base Station (AX).

  • HT3728 How can I get my airport express to show on my network ?

I did a hard reset on my airport express and now all it does is flash amber. I have thw airport utility open but it only shows my airport extreme.

I don't know what you mean by "hard reset."
I'm a great believer in the KISS principle.
Configuration is simple if you start from a factory default condition.  Then connect the Airport to AC power and finally to the Internet modem (or modem/router).  Open Airport Utility on your Mac or other computer and accept all of the recommendations.  After confirming that it works, insert your desired administrative and WiFi passwords.
Do not expect the Airport to respond instantly to the configuration commands.  BE PATIENT!

  • I ca not get my airport express to connect to hotel network, I ca not get my airport express to connect to hotel network

It has worked in the past. No luck today. I tried resting back tonfactory settings. Anyone have any tricks

You'll have your best chance if you configure the Express in Bridge Mode.
    AirPort Utility - Manual Setup
    Click the Internet icon
Connection Sharing = Off (Bridge Mode)
Close the browser on your Mac
Connect the Express to the Ethernet port and wait 40-45 seconds for a green light
Open your browser and the hotel's log on / agreement page will open
Hotels are getting smarter about guests connecting their own routers and some of the newer networks will simply not allow a router to connect to the network.

  • I can't get my Airport Express model A1084 to connect to my Actiontec M1424WR modem/router.  Help?

I can't get my Airport Express model A1084 to connect to my modem/router model Actiontec M1424WR. The Airport utility on my IMAC says it doesn't find any base stations.  Thelight on the Airport Express blinks amber only.   Any suggestions?

The  8+ year old Express that you have will require a 5.x version of AirPort Utility to administer the product.
Might you have an older Mac running Leopard (10.5.x), Snow Leopard (10.6.x) or a PC with AirPort Utility installed on the computer?

  • How can I get the Airport Express to handle all the PPPoE stuff?

Hi, I’m visiting my family in China, and now trying to help my dad, with his Airport Express and how to set up a PPPoE connection.
We have currently set up the Airport Express in bridge mode (not distributing IP adresses and selecting DHCP under the Internet tab in admin utility). The Airport settings on our two computers is set up to connect using PPPoE using the given login name and password. (ps! we can not see the Base station in Airport Admin Utility when using these settings, we would have to select a new location from the Apple menu to see it and make condigurations.)
What we want is to do, is to have the Airport Express connect to the ISP using a PPPoE connection and not through the computer.
I know there is a 'Connect using PPPoE' option in Airport admin util, letting me input account name and password. If I select this setting instead of DHCP, enable distribution of IP addresses and configure my Airport card to NOT connect using PPPoE, I will see my base station in the Airport admin util with the IP address of 10.0.1.1 (or similar) and my computer will have x.x.x.2. Next to the Airport icon in the menubar, a scrolling message will say 'Looking for PPPoE host' without anything happen. I am sure my account name and password is correct as they've both worked when using this computer to connect to PPPoE (like now)
How can I get the Airport Express to handle all the PPPoE stuff without using bridge mode?
Ps! Both me and my dad have iPhones whom we can’t seem to get to connect unless its been distributed an IP address cause there's as fars as I know, no options of inputing a PPPoE user name and password.

Any solutions to this? I'm in China also, in Beijing, trying to get my Airport Express to work with an ADSL modem.
Direct ethernet cable connection to my Macbook works fine.
When I configure the Airport Express with the ID and password that seems to be fine also – Airport Express shows a green light.
But I cannot figure out the settings to connect wirelessly from my Macbook to the Airport Express. I get a constantly scolling message: "Looking for PPPoEhost..."
    thanks

  • I just changed the channel on my Airport Extreme and now can't get the Airport Express to recognize the network.  What do?

I changed the channel on Airport Extreme to get away from interference.  Now I can't get my airport express to recognize the network.  What do I do?

I would suggest that you perform a "hard" reset on the AirPort Express Base Station (AX), and then, using the AirPort Utility, reconfigure it "join" or "extend" the AirPort Extreme as appropriate for your networking requirements.

  • Can I use the Airport Express to connect to a Linksys Wireless Network and then use the Ethernet port on the Airport for a wired connection to a device for internet access?  Would I be able to then also use that Ethernet pt to a Ntwk Hub for more wired c

Thanks for the help.  Looked but not clear on what I am trying to do as being possible.  Can I use an Airport Express to connect wireless to a Linksys Wireless Router, such that I can then use the Ethernet ports on the Airport to either connected to a PC wired, or even use a hub off the Airport Express to allow multiple wired connections to it?
I am not looking to have the Airport Express extend my wireless network, just connect to it and provide me wired connections in a different location from where my Linksys Route is located.  Would prefer to replace Linksys with all Apple, but just not possible financially yet.  Thanks for the help.

If the AirPort Express Base Station (AX) is an 802.11n model, then yes, you can reconfigure it as a wireless Ethernet bridge. In this configuration, the AX would join the wireless network provided by the Linksys router and its Ethernet port would be enabled for either a single wired device or for an Ethernet hub or switch for multiple devices.

  • My new smart TV recognizes my network, & asks, "Please enter you WEP keys (10 or 26 hex digits)" but my netwotk uses a password of 6 characters. How can I get my smart TV to connect to my network?

I have a current iMac with the latest OS update.
My new smart TV recognizes my network, & asks, “Please enter your WEP keys (10 or 26 hex digits).  My  Airport Express, an early model, only requires a password of less than 10 characters.
When I open “airport utility,”on my iMac it tells me this version doesn’t support my base station & says go to “Airport Service & Support.”  That’s what got me here.
My earlier MacBook runs OS 10.6.8. Its version of  Airport Utility works. Its Airport ID has 17 characters, & uses the same password to access the internet, but it also has a “wireless password” of 26 characters, but only shows me the dots. i haven’t the foggiest notion  what the characters are, if I put them in there years ago when i did the original configuration, or if they got there otherwise..
I’m afraid of changing those settings for fear that I’l mess up the whole thing.
How can I get my smart TV to connect to my network, ?

  • I can't get my Airport express to work in client mode with my speedtouch base station?

Im trying to add my Airport Express to my exisiting wireless network - which runs from a speedtouch base station. I only want to use the AP to use air tunes but i cant seem to get it running in client mode. The interface on the Airport Utility seems different to that described in the online help here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1731
Everytimes i try to add it to an exisint network the AP dissapears on its restart. Any ideas if what im trying to do is possible. I've tried creating the network initially with the ethenet cable connected - which works, but then when its detatched although the AP status light stays green it disapears from from the network and i cant stream.
thanks for any help and advice.

In order for the AirPort Express to join another wireless network as a "client", three conditions must be met in the setup of the Express. It must be provided with......
    1) The name of the wireless network that is to be joined
    2) The exact type of wireless security settings that the wireless router is using
    3) The wireless network password
Most users have no trouble with 1) and 3), but few know the exact type of wireless security settings that their wireless network is using. So, they accept a default setting on the Express, which does not match up with their network.
Bottom line....unless you know the exact type of wireless security settings that your wireless router is using...the Express will never join the network. The setup ends with an error message and you have to start all over again with another try....which will fail as well, etc.
If you know the exact type of security settings that the Speedtouch router is using.....we can provide you with a step by step setup guide.
If you do not know this, or are unsure....you will need to get into the setup menus for the Speedtouch router to locate the wireless settings. Or, if the wireless router was provided by your ISP, they may be able you with this information.
Post back with that info and we will proceed.

  • I changed the password on my WiFi network and can't get my Airport Express to join the network

AT$tT recently replaced my DSL modem with a modem/router. I was able to reset my Airport Express gen1 to join the network. Then I changed my network password  and cannot get it to reconfigure to join the network with a new password. Suggestions?

Next time you want to change the network password.......change it on the Express first....and then on your main router. Then, as soon as you restart the main router, the Express already has the settings that it needs to join the network and it will join with no problems.
Now, you must reset the Express back to factory default settings and then set it up again. To do that......
Power off the Express for a minute
Hold in the reset button first, and keep holding it in for an additional 10 seconds while you simultaneously plug the Express back in to power
Release the reset button after the 10 second hold, and allow a full minute for the Express to restart to a slow, blinking amber light status
The Express has now been reset and you can reconfigure it to join your "new" network now.

  • Can't Get The Airport Express Working

OK, So I have researched the forums and tried many different options. My issue is a follows. I have an Airport express G version. It came from a friend and worked fine. When I got it I did a factory reset to clear it all out. I Put the paper clip on the reset, plugged it in and waited for the 4 green flashes. I then plugged it into my laptop through ethernet. All I get is the flashing amber light. I tried to power everything down and then wait 15 minutes per item on the reboots. Still only a flashing amber light.
As a note when I hook it up to my router through ethernet it is steady green.
In all cases I cannot get it to show on the Airpot Utility. Everytime I hit rescan I get nothing found.
    Please help!!

actually, to do a +factory restore+, you should unplug the AX, stick in the paperclip while you plug it back in and keep the reset button depressed until the AX flashes amber rapidly (5-10 seconds)
I then plugged it into my laptop through ethernet.
you need to connect the AX to your router with an ethernet cable
As a note when I hook it up to my router through ethernet it is steady green.
that's what you want. If you connect the airPort express to your router with an ethernet cable, the airport express can be configured to create an extension of your main network if you use the same name, wireless mode, security and password as the main network.

  • Can't Get new Airport Express 802.11g to stop blinking on initial setup

Hoping someone here might be able to give me some guidance on this.
A few weeks ago I purchashed an Airport Express with Airtunes g (new, but marked down) - I tried and successfully connected it one afternoon to remote speakers from my Intel Mac Mini 2.0. I didn't have the time then to complete the install, and I was having difficulty with the printer (Epson 530) so I thought I wouuld work on it more later when I had time.
This time when I went to plug in the Airport it won't stop blinking. Furthermore, when I attempt to connect, the Mac will show the network, but then it will "disappear" about 10 seconds later, and the reappear 30 seconds after again on scan. I followed what I thought were the reset instructions, but when I use Airport utility it will either not show my base station, or if it does, and I click to connect, after a period of time I receive an error message that it was unable to connect and to close out the window and try again. One time earlier this evening I was able to "set up" a network, but when it went to the final setup, something screwed up and it lost connection to the base station. Ever since then the Mac either doesn't see the Base station, or it will see it for a few seconds and then disappear. Also it's never stopped blinking (from what I can tell - I have the unit plugged in another room from the Mac when setting it up).
I want to use the Airport Express for Airtunes and to share a printer wirelessly but NOT to connect to the internet via ethernet (don't have high speed at this location) - and also to access my iTunes files from my netbook in the other room - additionally, I'd like to be able to use my ipod touch as a wireless remote to iTunes. If and when high speed becomes possible I'll use it for that also, but for now, I only want it set up for a network between my computers for iTunes.
Anyone have any ideas? Other than to smash this box against the wall? They make it look so easy on the commercial.....
    Respectfully submitted
    Len

Hello and thank you for replying. I was attempting to set up the airport express in the another room from the Mac Mini (the printer and other computers are in the back office) - and it wouldn't recognize. So I reset the express, then plugged it in directly underneath the mac, and I was able to set up a wireless system that way. I then went and plugged it back in to the back, and having it locate the signal from up front was a bit dodgy at first (I think there is a lot of metal in the wall the signal is going through - additionally the Mac mini is underneath the counter up front)
But I was finally able to get it to work by putting the airport express on an extention cord, and repositoining it about halfway up the wall on a makeshift shelf. Now my iPod touch "sees" the wireless network, so I'm able to control iTunes from the back room. Additionally, my windows netbook (Acer aspire One) sees my itunes library, although that only wo Wr ks some of the time. Not quite sure why it performs sometimes and not others.
I haven't tried connecting the printer yet, as I need to get an extention USB in order to do so.
It's my hope that eventually we will get a high speeed connection here at my workplace and I'll be able to take full advantage of the express.
Again, thanks for your suggestions - it is still blinking amber, but everything else seems to be working that I have attempted.

  • Can't get G5, Airport Express, G4 Powerbook to network

I've got an Asante ethernet router connecting my G5, cable modem and Airport Express/PowerBook. Both computers see the Airport Express and access the modem. I turned off "Distribute IP addresses" in the Airport Admin utility. And, yes, sharing is turned on.
I had no problem getting the two computers to see each other hardwired through the router. I cannot, though, get the two computers to see each other via wireless. What am I missing? All I want to do is unteather my PowerBook from the network and I can find no info about this type of hook up.
    Jeff
PS - there is no info about a hook up like this in any manual or tech page

Just be be clear, you have an ethernet cable connected from the Asante router to the AX ethernet port, correct?

  • Can't get Airport Express to connect to my network

I have a netgear wireless router, and the when I plug in the aiport express, it just blinks yellow. When I run the Airport express assistant, it gives me a warning that windows is not managing my wireless network. This is very frustrating!! What can I do?

I'm sorry you are having problems. When I cabled directly to the Express from my computer and ran the assistant it worked perfectly. After disconnecting the calbe, it connected wirelessly to my existing network. I am running an Aiport Extreme for my base station, I don't know if that makes a difference. When you run the assistant do you select "Join existing network"? There is a great post on here somewhere with other instructions on setting up the Express a different way. Sorry I can't be more helpful.
