"internal error 2356. data1.cab"
hmm anyone know how to fix this problem?
please help...
thanks

hi horsebag!
drat. if we're getting a strange error like that from a CD or online install, often doing a "local" install helps.
the error is not well documented (i'm not sure i've seen one before on an itunes install). but we've had success with these rarer sorts of errors in the past by using the general installation advice from this document:
Troubleshooting iTunes, iPod Software, and QuickTime installation on Windows
... augmented by the InstallShield Tips and Pointers:
InstallShield Consumer Central Frequently Asked Questions: Tips and Pointers
an error message mentioning a .cab file can be Windows-Installer-related, so let's also try method 1 from this document:
How to resolve Common "Windows Installer" Problems
keep us posted. (there's a few other things which have worked for other cab-related error messages that we can try if we get no joy with these.)

  • HELP Can't install itunes 9 on Windows 7  64-Bit

I've just bought an iPod Touch and can't install itunes on my notebook. (Which means I can't use my iPod)
I've downloaded itunes for 64bit, but each time I double-click it, a window opens and say "The windows installer service could not be accessed. This can occur if you are running windows in safe mode, or if the windows installer is not correctly installed. Contact your support personnel for assistance."
and it says the itunes installer encountered an error before itunes completely installed.
I went to Asus service center, but they said that itunes is not compatible with the new Windows 7 and I should bring it to Apple iBox instead.
I've gone to 2 iBox and they don't understand the problem at all, and they didn't find any way to help me.
This is so disappointing. I can't even find an email address to contact Apple directly.
Help is so much appreciated. Thanks..

iTunes 9.0.x is certainly compatible with Win7 64 bit since I use that exact setup on 3 different PCs. Two suggestions for your installation problems:
1)Download a new copy of the 64 bit installer from Apple then, instead of just running the itunes installer right click on it and try 'run as adminstrator'. In my experience that clears up a world of problems with program installation in Win7 and Vista. This is necessary even if you're already logged in as an administrator.
    2) Try the previous version of iTunes (9.0.3). You can get a copy at http://www.oldapps.com/itunes.php?old_itunes=54 again right click on the file and "run as administrator"
    Good luck, hope this helps.

  • Help - Can't install iTunes - Error during install

Am able to install QuickTime, but get to "Install Wizard" and it stops midway and gives me the error message "A later version of iTunes is already on this machine. Installation cannot continue."
I have erased my old iTunes off my machine - but am confused why this update would claim a LATER version of iTunes is on the machine and freezes the installation??!
Pls help - just got my iPod up and running again (after months of it being frozen on permanent lock and having to go back to factory settings several times - trying several fixes) - but can't do anything without iTunes and my music library to load on my iPod.
Thanks in advance - for any/all advice. I'm at my wits end.

    hi Laura!
Am able to install QuickTime, but get to "Install Wizard" and it stops midway and gives me the error message "A later version of iTunes is already on this machine. Installation cannot continue."
hmmm. are you installing a true standalone copy of the installer? the size of a standalone for 7.0.3 should be less than 20 MB. how large is your installer?
    here's a link to a true standalone:
    http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/standalone.html

  • I can not install itunes on my computer. It tells me I need to update safari, and I have. Help please

I can not install itunes on my computer.  It tells me I need to update safari, and I have already done that. Please help.

It tells me I need to update safari, and I have already done that.
That's an unusual message to be getting on a Windows system. (Typically it's a Mac itunes installation message.)
I'd like to have a closer look at that error message please, tamara.
Try another iTunes install. While the error message box is open, hold down the Alt key and hit the PrtSc key. Paste the screenshot into an image file (using a program like Paint), and save the file.
Start a reply here and click the wee camera icon at the top of the reply window. Click "Choose file", browse to the image file, select the file and click "Open". Now click "Insert file" to insert the screenshot into the reply.

  • Can't install itunes 7, HELP!!

I go to the page to download itunes 7. I click to download it, and it takes me to the page that says thank you for downloading itunes 7. but it doesn't download, no instructions pop up, no nothing. I searched my computer, it's not on there. I deleted the old version, still doesn't download. HELP!!!!!!!

OK, if you have successfully saved the iTunes installer on your PC (you shouldn't run it over the internet) then you should take a look at this Apple help on trouble installing Itunes:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93976
Ask again if that doesn't help. An exact desctiption of what happens with any error messages helps.

I pulled my brains out trying to figure this bug out and I may have a solution for you.
All of it installed fine in my desktop, but a friend's laptop got the error you mentioned on quicktime, itunes, flash, officeXP and about anything else I tried to load for him.
If you look in: C:\documents and settings\<username>\Local Settings\Temp there will be an iTunes install log...open it in Notepad and see if it isn't exiting with a 1619 error while running msiexec.exe
If this is the case, this fix should work for you.
Seems some configurations of XP (and possibly Vista) aren't allowing full administrator rights to the account you set up when you installed XP (even though User Editor says you do have those rights.)
I read 2 MS articles and turned off simple file sharing, then gave ownership of the entire C: drive to the administrator. Logged the admin account off, logged his "admin" account in, and then gave rights to his personal directory to his account (c:\docs and settings\<username>)
Once I did that, every install that had previously errored out performed flawlessly.
    The MS articles in question:
    http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=316309 (1619 error)
    and
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=308419 (how to set special permissions)
    Hope this helps!

  • Can't install itunes 10.4 on Windows 7 home premium

I am not highly technical, so please bear with me:
After repeatedly being unable to update itunes 10.2, I thought I should just uninstall it and install itunes 10.4. Wow, what a mistake. After many hours I now can't run my MS Office programs AND I can't load or run itunes.
Originally, while trying to update itunes, I kept getting the message "errors occurred while installing the updates. If the problem persists, choose tools > download only and try installing manually." This confused me as I could not find "tools."
After some reading online, I decided what I should do is download the Windows Installer clean up tool. Apparently this was the BIG mistake. I selected Apple items to remove with msicuu.exe, only to find that now my MS Office 2010 programs no longer run ("Microsoft Office not installed for this user"), and I still can't install itunes.
I tried installing itunes 10.2 and got a message that I must install a 32-bit version of itunes.
I used the cleanup tool once again and tried to install itunes 10.4, and got the message: could not open key: UNKNOWN\components\DA42BC89BF25F5BD0AF18C3B9B1A1EE8\6A262021B4A79884EA585F5E86D 86338. Verify that you have sufficient access to that key or contact your support personnel.
Now when I try to run MS Office software, getting message "Preparing to install", then, Configuring Microsoft Office Professional Plus, then something about the program not being installed for this user (I'm the only user).
I realize that this board probably can't help me with MS Office software, but can you help me with itunes?

SOA Suite works perfectly on my windows7 pc.

    Hey Debbiered1,
Follow the steps in this link to resolve the issue:
iTunes 11.1.4 for Windows: Unable to install or open
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS5376
When you uninstall, the items you uninstall and the order in which you do so are particularly important:
Use the Control Panel to uninstall iTunes and related software components in the following order and then restart your computer:
    iTunes
    Apple Software Update
    Apple Mobile Device Support
    Bonjour
Apple Application Support (iTunes 9 or later)
Important: Uninstalling these components in a different order, or only uninstalling some of these components may have unintended affects.
Let us know if following that article and uninstalling those components in that order helped the situation.
    Welcome to Apple Support Communities!
    Take care,

  • I can't install iTunes error: "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Software/Classes/pcast"

Hi i can't install. iTunes first i want to update and i take this error *"Could not open key :HKEYLOCALMACHINE/Software/Classes/pcast* Verify that you have sufficient access to that key or contact your support personel" and i delete pcast files after that iTunes not opened.I unistalled itunes and i tried to install again. And i take this error again. Please help me !

I found this solution on the Apple Support Forums. Adding the SYSTEM account is what worked for me:
+Let's check your permissions on the key.+
+In your "Start Search" box, type run and click on the Run that comes up. In your run, type regedit and hit enter.+
    +In regedit:+
    +Expand HKEYLOCALMACHINE+
    +Expand SOFTWARE+
    +Expand CLASSES+
+Right-click on pcast and select "Permissions".+
+Select your user account name. Do you have full control of the key? If so, also select SYSTEM. Does the SYSTEM account have full control of the key?+

  • I can't install itunes for windows get error message 5

i can't install itunes for windows get error message 5

I've been having the same issues for the past year and a half. I've spent 6-8months trying to figure it out. Went to various Itunes stores with pictures on my Iphone per each step so I could relay all information that I'd come across and the personnel were less than helpful, after conversations that would sometimes last an hour between myself, employees and managers they always came back to "simply uninstall then reinstall" when I told them for the thousanth time that I've done that multiple times and my errors are happening while trying to reinstall it they act stumped and say "well then I'm not sure, I'll give you a call if I figure it out" and disappear. I've been very disatisfied at the lack of support from Apple and if Android to piece together a reletively reliable phone I'd switch to them in a heartbeat. I'll follow this question incase someone can answer this, but I don't have much faith.
BTW, wifey has Windows 7 running on the laptop and my phone syncs just fine to that and no trouble with itunes, just mine (desktop).

  • Can't install iTunes 10 due to Bonjour

I need help finding and deleting Bonjour from my desktop. I uninstalled iTunes 9. When I try to reinstall iTunes 10 I get an error message that says "The older version of Bonjour cannot be removed. Contact your technical support group". I have searched for Bonjour throughout my computer and deleted it every place I could including the REGEDIT. When I try to remove Bonjour from the list of programs through the Control Panel I get an error message that says "The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is not available". I can no longer use my iPod Touch because I can't install iTunes on my computer. This makes me very sad.

When I try to remove Bonjour from the list of programs through the Control Panel I get an error message that says "The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is not available".
These sorts of msi-related troubles have gotten more complicated to deal with ever since Microsoft pulled the Windows Installer CleanUp utility from their Download Center on June 25. First we have to find a copy of the utility.
Let's try Googling. (Best not to use Bing, I think.) Look for a working download site for at least version 3.0 of the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. After downloading the utility installer file (msicuu2.exe), scan the file for malware, just in case. (I use the free version of Malwarebytes AntiMalware to do single-file scans for that.)
If the file is clean, to install the utility, doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file you've downloaded.
Now run the utility ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up"). In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any BonJour entries and click "Remove".
Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try installing iTunes again. Does the install go through properly this time?
(If you do find a clean download site for the correct version of CleanUp, please don't tell me where it is. Without wishing to sound paranoid (although I grant it does sound paranoid), there is a non-zero chance that posting links to download locations for the utility here at Discussions leads to that download location being shut down.)

  • Got new iPhone but can't install iTunes

I purchased a new iPhone 4 yesterday and thought it would be easy to set up but for some reason I can't install iTunes on my laptop. I can down load the iTunes setup.exe but when it comes to install it, it gets about half way through and it comes up with the error 'Could not access network location %APPDATA%/'. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to overcome this problem. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks, Fifi.

it gets about half way through and it comes up with the error 'Could not access network location %APPDATA%/'.
With that particular variety of 1606 (it's a 1606 error message even though the 1606 error message number isn't returned by the iTunes installer), the following Microsoft document is worth a try:

    Hello Gesturinn,
Thanks for the question, and welcome to Apple Support Communities.
The following article outlines troubleshooting issues when attempting to install iTunes. In your circumstance, it may be as simple as choosing "Save As..." (and ultimately choose a location) instead of "Run".
