Help - can't migrate data via firewire to new MB

I'm migrating from a PowerBook running Tiger to a new MB with Leopard (10.5.2). I tried using Migration Assistant but I kept getting errors about a problem with the network even though I was using FireWire.
I figured it's probably better doing it manually by FireWire anyway, so I used FireWire target mode. But when trying to copy over my documents, it's stopping at a certain point, different each time. And it won't let me cancel, the Finder freezes up, and I have to force shut down. I've tried a couple times, one time it did give me an error for a particular file, but that seemed to copy over in the first attempt.
I suppose I'll have to try to call Apple, but anyone have any advice? I already gave the MB a fresh reinstall of Leopard.

Backed-up how? If you have a Time Machine backup, or a "bootable clone," just plug it in to your new Mac and migrate from it. See [Setting up a new Mac from an old one or its backups|http://web.me.com/pondini/AppleTips/Setup.html] (or use the link in *User Tips* at the top of the +Snow Leopard > Installation and Setup+ forum).

  • Problem Migrating Data Via Firewire

I am trying to transfer data from G4 desktop to a Intel iMac. The G4 desktop has 2 internal drives and has 10.4.10 installed. When I boot up the G5 iMac for the initial setup, I choose the option to migrate my information from another Mac. I follow all the steps connecting the systems with a firewire cable and reboot the older Mac while holding down the T key. The older Mac reboots and shows the Target Disk Mode icon, but the G5 iMac still is unable to see it and cannot get past the 'waiting for your old mac to restart stage'.
I did disconnect the second drive thinking that there may be a conflict that there was two drives on the G4 desktop, but this did not solve the problem.
Any suggestions on a fix would be appreciated.

Make sure that the remaining Hard drive is at the front of the ATA cable. And also check that the cable is good and that firewire ports on the G4 are active. If not shut own the machine, disconnect the cable, let it cool down, do a PRAM Reset on startup, then go to Applications/Utilities/Disk Utility and Repair Permissions on the startup volume.

  • Problems migrating data via LSMW using the IDoc method

    Hello everybody,
I got a very strange problem migrating data via the LSMW. I tried to map legacy data using the IDoc mapping method. I'm using the message type 'CRMXIF_PARTNER_SAVE_M ' and the basic IDoc type 'CRMXIF_PARTNER_SAVE_M01'.
I can read the import data and convert it to IDoc structure as well as generate the IDoc. When I start processing the IDoc afterwards I get always the same error messages which I don't understand...
    The errors are:
    1) Error status 'A ' calling validation service (Status 51)
    2) Validation error occurred: Module CRM_BUPA_MAIN_VAL , BDoc type BUPA_MAIN (Status 51)
    3) Error_Time Dependency_Addresses CHECK_TABLE_MISSING (Status 51)
    4) Internal error when calling operation module BUA_CHECK_ADDRESS_VALIDITY_ALL : Check table missing (Status 51)
    5) Address moves ignored in the case of time-independent systems (Status 51)
    6) Partner data processed with key PartnerGUID 4BF67ADE9B9923BEE10000000A3500DB (Status 51)
    7) Partner (4BF67ADE9B9923BEE10000000A3500DB ): the following errors occurred (Status 51)
I tried to import the following data:
    external ID
    Name1
    Name2
    Address data
    Telephone data
    Fax data
    Website data
Can anybody tell me where those errors come from and how I can fix them. Would be great if somebody could help me!
    Thank you and best regards,
    Markus

so apparently my issue with this was setting the time zone in the Address to the time zone of the user doing the conversion. You can find the time zone in SU01.
Also you can create a BP in the WebUI then check t-code SMW01 and it will help you on passing the values to CRMXIF_PARTNER_SAVE

How can I migrate data from an old MBA to a new one without having access to the screen of the old one? The screen of the old MBA is damaged !

If your "older" MBA has a Thunderbolt port then it isn't that old. See Target Disk Mode about how it's used. Note that without a monitor you won't be able to tell from the screen when it has fully started, and if it succeeded in starting in TDM. If it did, then the hard drive should appear on the Desktop of your new computer. You can then access it to transfer your files. You can even use Migration Assistant or any backup utility to transfer data. Just don't try to transfer system files.

I'm assuming it's trying to tell me I have an older iTunes Library, but don't know that.  Geez, maybe people over 60 shouldn't have iPhones, iTunes just bafles me.

Help can not update my CS5 on the new PC

I don't know whether you are running Windows or Mac OS, so I will link you to the  Product updates page.
Look under Photoshop, choose your OS and look under CS5 for the 12.0.4 Multilingual Update (MUL).  You simply download and install.
Adobe Camera Raw 6.7 is the latest and you download and install that.
Under Product updates look for Bridge and apply all updates.
CS5 is quite old and the updater doesn't work as it should so you have do the updates manually.

  • Can I migrate multiple reports to a newer version at the same time?

If I have an older version of Crystal Reports can I migrate them all to a newer version at the same time?  Is there some documentation that will provide instructions?  I dont' want to have to upgrade them one at a time.
    Thanks - Mike

There is no utility that will do that for you. Not from SAP. Perhaps some 3rd party (google Ken Hamady), etc. Or, you could create an application in VS .NET or java to do it though.
But depending on what you are migrating from and what you are migrating to, you may not need to do any updating at all...

  • Can i migrate data from old 2008 macbook to new macbook pro retina? if so, how?

if anyone can help me this, i'd be grateful. have had a frustrating few hours trying to answer this question. just bought a macbook pro, retina, running mavericks. i can't figure out if there's any way to get my data off my old computer, onto the new. i can't upgrade to snow leopard because my computer won't run it. whenever i have tried connecting the two computers via ethernet, the new computer won't recognize the old (though i think the old recognizes the new). i don't have a time machine backup, because my computer is so old and full, that it became corrupted. (which is why i got a new one). does anyone have any answers or suggestions on how i could do this? thanks. --nancy

If the migration assistant doesn't work and you have no backup then you will have to take another path that involves a little more manual work. Anyway in your situation a fresh start seems like a good idea. So set up your new Mac with the same username and afterwards copy your user folder from the old to the new either using your ethernet connection or an external USB drive. This will also bring your user's Library folder along and retain most of your settings at least as far as they are applicable in Mavericks.

  • How can I migrate data from SQL Server 6,5 to Oracle 8?

  • Can I migrate data from "old" user account to new user after clean install?

I've just done a clean install of Snow Leopard on a MacBook Pro (I erased system drive before install). I've upgraded SL to 10.6.2 using a generic administrator account. And I have an exact bootable clone of my old data (SuperDuper backup on external drive).
I don't care about migrating all my old software; I'll reinstall it. But I would like to migrate system preferences, mail accounts, iCal calendars, and keychains etc. And some silly part of me wants to REname my username. (Also: I can't use Setup Assistant or Migration Assistant because some part of the old image has Microsoft Entourage hooks in Mail and MobileMe that I want to get rid of.)
So here's my question: if I create a new account with the NEW user name I want to start using, can I STILL then copy over my old data? I don't know which of the below stuff has my old user name embedded in the data. Here's the list:
    Your data in ~/Documents
~/Library/Application Support/AddressBook (copy the whole folder)
    ~/Library/Calendars (copy the whole folder)
Also in ~/Library/Application Support (copy whatever else you need)
~ /Library/Keychains (copy the whole folder)
    ~/Library/Mail (copy the whole folder)
~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.mail.plist *This is a very important file which contains all email account settings and general mail preferences.

~/Library/Application Support/iMovie (copy the whole folder)

what exactly do you mean by that? you can use Migration Assistant to migrate your user only (no applications). that should most likely suffice and i don't think Entourage will be a problem. you'll have to delete various entourage folders in your documents folder afterward if you don't plan on using it anymore.

yes, as bdmarsha said, your user name is not mentioned anywhere in your home directory.

  • HT1151 Can't Transmit Audio Via Firewire to Adobe Connect

At my job we use Adobe Connect to broadcast our meetings live over the internet. We connect a Panasonic HXV 200 with a shotgun mic to a Macbook Pro via Firewire. However, we can't get the audio signal transmitted to the computer. There is no option in Adobe Connect to select the HVX 200 as the microphone for the presenter. Does anyone know why this would be? The only options for Mics are "Built-in line input," "Built-in Digital Input" and "Blackmagic Audio." Sometimes we can get audio from the laptop's on board mic but it's not of very high quality. We've tried connecting the camera's headphone jack to the laptop's line-in port via an auxiliary cable. This works but it's not the best solution because the audio should be coming in over Firewire.

Generally we use a Macbook Pro, but I'm currently on a Mac Pro tower with OS X 10.7.5 and I'm having the exact same issue.

Use the Setup Assistant during your initial setup of the new computer. You will need to connect your old computer to the new computer to do this. You can do this using a current Time Machine backup of the old computer if you can connect the backup drive to the new computer. See Target Disk Mode and About Windows Migration Assistant.
