Help! Can't overclock via CPU Ratio (multiplier) with K7T266 Pro (MS-6380)?

I have a Athlon 1.2 GHz (266 MHz FSB) that I'm trying to overclock via the clock multiplier on my K7T266 Pro (MS-6380) mobo.
Right now the CPU ratio is set to Auto in the Hardware Monitor in the BIOS, but I know that it's using a clock multiplier of 9 (9 x 133 Mhz = 1197 Mhz, which is about 1.2 Ghz)
The only way that I can overclock this CPU is by increasing the FSB above 133 MHz.  That works, but I'd like to avoid that as the USB no longer works when the FSB is past 138 MHz (i.e. I can't OC higher than 1242 MHz through the FSB)
If I set the clock multiplier above 9 (ex: 9.5, 10, etc.) nothing happens.  I reboot and my CPU is still at 1.2 GHz.  Its as if I can't OC by increasing the CPU ratio.  I'd like to set it to 10 and run at 1.33 GHz but I can't.  Why is that?
If I lower my CPU ratio below 9, then the computer freezes up totally at bootup and I have to clear the CMOS to get it working again.
THANKS!

Hi,
You need to unloack the CPU, search google for closing L1 Bridges, then you can set it to anything you want

  • X79A-GD65 (8D) - Get stuck at 12x cpu ratio multiplier or 1200MHz

Hi all.  Just wanted to see if anyone else observed this with the new X79 chipset motherboard and the 3930K or 3960X sandy bridge-e cpu.
When trying to overclock the motherboard in any way
    1) CPU Ratio set to any number
    2) Per Core Maximum ratio / multiplier
    3) OC Genie II
and then trying a CPU stress utility such as Prime95
The CPU gets locked at 1200Mhz, or 12 x 100Mhz and never goes higher than that.  At the same time, the temperature sensors believe the CPU is locked at 91 degrees celsius.  So I believe on this bios version of 1.2 on the MS-7760 motherboard (X79A-GD65), it thinks 91 degrees is too hot, and never goes above 1200MHz.  I've also tried OC Genie and manual overclocking at bios version 1.1, and I cannot go over 1200Mhz.
Only at stock speeds (no overclocking), with the 3930K, at full CPU load tests with Prime95, it does go to 3500Mhz, or 35 x 100, correctly.
Right now I cannot overclock at all, whether with OC Genie, or manual cpu ratio multipliers.
Tweaktown and HWBot and several other websites have observed this.  I'm running the latest 1.2 bios, and still get stuck at 12x.
    http://hwbot.org/forum/showthread.php?s=51e18bdfe400391d0955716a5c66343d&p=138647#post138647
    http://www.tweaktown.com/reviews/4423/msi_x79a_gd65_intel_x79_motherboard_review/index5.html

Scratch that.  It was happy yesterday, but first boot of the morning today and back to stuck at 12x/91C.  Will changing other voltages remedy this?  I read something on a review website suggesting this was a problem with the actual 3930K/3960X chips, and not necessarily a motherboard issue.
If I raise my cpu base clock from 100 to 125 and use a 36 multiplier, the machine forces the memory to run at 2,000 MHz, which according to the SPD shown in bios should be OK, but I couldn't get it to boot like that.  Is there anything I can change to allow the machine to work in that configuration?
Edit:  Just read yet another OC review (this time on HardwareSecrets) and found the following:
"The “correct” way of overclocking Intel CPUs with Turbo Boost technology is to change the clock multiplier that each core will use when the Turbo Boost technology kicks in."
I just tried changing the core ratio limit for all six cores to 45, setting the cpu ratio to auto, and leaving the core voltage at 1.375V, and it seems to work again.  Boots into Win7, coretemp displays correct temperatures, and when I load the cpu using prime95, it hits 4.5GHz.  I will try setting core voltage to auto also so that the cpu doesn't stay at 1.375V at idle when not necessary.  I'd still like to OC the memory in theory - not sure how much boost I'd get by running the memory above 1600 MHz.  I'll be using this PC for some computational fluid dynamics, so every bit of speed I can eek out of it will be put to use.
Edit 2:  Auto core voltage works, vcore drops to 0.840V at idle, and idle temps drop back down closer to room temperature (using an Antec Sonata Elite case with a Corsair H80 water cooler, so slightly less airflow than ideal but I have the case fans optimized for now by relocating the system blower fan to a drive bay and adding a 120mm fan in the lower drive bays pulling air out of the side of the case).

Can i use my mini Mbox 2 with logic pro 9 on iMac os x lion?

    Hi there,
Did you find out anything more in regard to this?
I have been using Pro Tools 8 with the MBox 2 connected to my iMac operating Leopard. It worked a treat for nearly four years.
However the hardrive has just been replaced on the iMac which now has Snowleopard.  I don't want to have to update to Lion and then fork out £500 for Pro Tools 10.
I would be content to get Logic Pro 9 if I can attach the MBox 2 to it.
    Your advice would be appreciated

  • !!!!!I CAN'T OVERCLOCK MY CPU. BIOS DOESN'T RECOGNIZE MY AMD ATHLON XP-MOBILE

    My configuration is this:
    Mainboard: MSI K7N2-DELTA2-FSR

PLEASE HELP ME OR CAN YOU TELL ME HOW CAN I RESOLVE THIS PROBLEM???
    THANKS A LOT. BYE

Please furnish us some more info concerning the memory you are using and power output of the 3.3v - 5v -12v rails of your power supply along with the name of its manufacturer.
Some mobile cpus start up with a lower multiplier and then go to the bios to use the preset settings in the bios.  If the cpu can't start with the bios settings, it remains at its start up values.  Your mobile may not be able to run at a multiplier of 11.5 with a 200fsb.  Drop its fsb back to 166 (stock fsb 133) and see if you can run it at its rated multiplier of 14.  That will equal 2324mhz.
Overclocking is finding a balance between the fsb and the multiplier that allows you to get the most stable speed out of the cpu.
You also have not mentioned what vcore voltage that you are using or the temps.
The memory that I'm using are : V-Data 512x2 MB DDR CL 2,5
    The power supply is 400watt chassis, 3,3V, 12V, 5V.
I tell you that with the mainboard ASUS I did't have this problem with the multiplier because I put 11.5 x 200Fsb.

  • Help, can't overclock after bios update!

On the stock k9n2 750a bios version, my AMD 5400 OC’ed to a stable 3.08ghz without any hassle by simply setting the FSB to 220mhz .  Recently, I flashed to the AMI 7374 v3.5 bios and couldn’t even post after bumping the FSB to 202mhz  (it’s fine @200mhz).  So, I reverted the bios back to AMI 7374 v3.1 and for some reason it now can’t post either after saving a FSB above 200mhz .  As far as I can remember, I’m using the same settings as I used when I got the stable 220mhz FSB.
Anyone know what the bios update did to kill my overclocking or got some ideas/advice on how to get back to the stable 220mhz FSB? Thanks.

What does ME version show under BIOS currently? When you check the ratio under OS, do you put your system under loading? And did you re-install driver from website after updating BIOS?
    http://www.msi.com/support/mb/Z68AGD65_G3.html#support_download
ME version 8.1.2.1318. Even if I put the system at 100% load in Windows, the processor never moves past 3.4 GHz. I've checked this in multiple programs (CPUZ, RealTemp, TMonitor, etc.) And yes, I reinstalled the drivers that were listed under the BIOS update.
Quote from: TZBC on 29-January-15, 14:17:52
Go to OC section and change to advanced mode, change your CPU Ratio Mode from Dynamic to Fixed mode.
And go to windows checking the ratio have changed or not.
EDIT: sorry, I forgot this motherboard doesn't have this settings, try Disabled or Enable "Adjust CPU Ratio in OS"
I've tried changing that setting (Adjust CPU Ratio in OS) but it doesn't seem to have any effect.
However, I just noticed that I didn't have the newest version of CPUZ. I updated it and now it shows more detailed information for the multiplier: x34 (16-44)
So it is detecting that I have set it to 44 in Windows after all. But it seems to be indicating that it's using a dynamic CPU ratio of 16-44 - which I don't want, I want it fixed at 44 - but as you say, there's no option for dynamic/fixed on my motherboard. However, on the old v23.7 BIOS, if I set it to 44 it stayed at 44 always.
Even if it's using a dynamic ratio for some reason, it's not doing that right either because it's still never moving past 3.4 GHz (nor is it ever dropping below 3.4 GHz).

Try with mem settings auto and only adjust Vdimm to vendorspecs.
Did you try BIOS V1.1 from MSI : http://global.msi.com.tw/index.php?func=downloaddetail&type=bios&maincat_no=1&prod_no=1373
This did solve some memory issues.
If so try, if you can, QVL memory and see if problem persists.
Hope this helps  , good luck and keep us posted
Also be sure that your on manual and not linked, this will give problems too, when fsb divider gets higher then memory divider.
Furthermore, by using non qvl mem, the NB and fsb vtt are very depending on eachother.
I had the same with my board  , the only difference with yours is the cirque pipe cooling and an extra chip for yorkfield support  , but it is do-able

  • Can't overclock via software - Neo Platinum 7030

    Hi people!
I'm new in this forum. Very nice forum, btw, there are tons of information but I don't seem to find anyone else having the same issue I've got.
I can't find any software to overclock/change frequency of my memory ! CoreCenter, in my humble opinion, just sucks, and doesn't allow any tweaking of RAM. There is a dedicated version of ClockGen for the MS-6702, one for general nForce3 boards, but they do not work with my MS-7030: the "clock" tab is grayed out.
I read somewhere one should set FSB/AGP in the BIOS to 201/67 (donno why) , I did, still doesn't work.
I'd like to use this kind of software since my system runs smoothly at 200 FSB/200 RAM  and at 240FSB/166RAM as well. With ClockGen (I guess) I could jump from one setting to another (normal use -> gaming, for instance) without having to reboot and manually change all those BIOS entries.
I'm not sure one could do that with ClockGen but... is it possible anyway?
    Thanks in advance!
EDIT: Ops... I'm sorry,  I  posted this in the wrong section! This has got to be moved to "Overclockers&Modding" section, isn it?

Do a floppy drive flash with the correct switches.  Go back to the last bios that worked properly or try Pinochio's bios which a lot of people like.  Liveupdate will mess up your bios.  So can winflash if you do not use it correctly.

After you have read about it, do this using the correct flash utilty file name and the correct  bios file name
"DOS floppy flash shall be performed with :
    awfl833d.exe w7030nms.180 /py /sn /wb /cc /cd /cp /f /e
(Replace biosfilename with appropriate version for Neo1/neo2 etc , switches remain the same )
    After flash is complete :
TURN OFF PSU (don't restart) wait 15 seconds
Turn on again , press the power button .
Enter BIOS and load optimized defaults (NO OTHER CHANGES) , save + exit
Boot the system again with the floppy in the drive to let the DMI pool build and update itself .
    Good luck.

  • Can't connect via Finder but works with everything else

The Time Capsule is working fine with Time Machine and Airport.  However when I try to connect via Finder, it just says 'Connecting...' and never changes.  When I hit 'Connect As...', nothing happens.  I have rebooted the TC and deleted all passwords from the keychain but that didnt help.  Latest OSX updates and firmware update installed.

I powered down and was relieved to hear the fan jolt and the drive spin so that looks good.
Wireless is currently the only method I've been using to connect to the TC with my macbook because as of right now I dont have a USB->ethernet adapter but I will pick one up later today to see if that changes anything.  The cable modem is connected via ethernet though and that seems to be working fine.
The LED is solid green when the modem is plugged in and flashing orange when it is not.
Here is the log after a power cycle, at first I did not have the cable modem plugged in and attempted to access via Finder with no luck. Then shortly after, I plugged in the cable modem and tried Finder again. Its interesting that attempting to access the drive via Finder does not create any activity in the log.
I will try to cool down overnight and hope I can get at the data.  At this point, my main goal is to retrieve the files.  And then get a new local backup solution asap.  I am currently doing a full online backup to Crashplan but with 500GBs, its going to be weeks before it finishes uploading.

  • Can't overclock past 1333.33 FSB with P7N SLI Platinum [FIXED]

I was told it was an FSB hole but it doesn't seem like one anymore. I tried two different amounts, 1440 and 1500 FSB and changes the voltages accordingly (obviously). I can boot up to the operating system and everything but when I open up CPU-Z and other programs my FSB is at 1333.33. The BIOS doesn't tell me this however. Why isn't it working?

polishedcar are you overclocking in bios ?
where are you getting stuck at with your fsb ?
what are your voltages at for your current overclock ?
Yes, I'm overclocking in BIOS. Not quite sure what you mean by your second part, but basically I can up to 1333.33 FSB and then after that if I boot up it still reads as 1333.33 FSB, but the BIOS says the correct FSB that I overclocked to. I reverted back to 1333.33 FSB (3GHz with Q6600) for now so I don't have the voltages for the higher overclocks, 3GHz runs fine and stable though.
    I don't think it's software and I'm 90% sure EIST is disabled.
EDIT: I seemed to have fixed it! I disabled "Spread Spectrum" and it worked! As a test, I tried 1350 FSB and CPU-Z reads it correctly.
