Trying to set up to print with MacBook Pro, OSX 10.5.8, Canon MX870 series printer, and NEW AirPort Extreme. I get the message that "an error occurred while reading the confirguration (-6753)" At wit's end... tried using ethernet cable connection- MacBook Pro to Airport Extreme... same message. That was the suggestion from the Express Lane tech. That perhaps our WiFi at our physical location was interferring. Have tried ethernet cable to Airport... same. Also tried USB cable... same message. Used same MacBook Pro and Canon printer a year ago, but with an older Airport Extreme, and it worked perfectly... wirelessly. HELP please, please
Also am having problems with my roomates HP Laptop... It connects for only a few seconds/minutes then has an issue... Really shady??? Any Ideas? He is Running Windows XP

Just spoke with Cisco about the router. They said the router is compatible with the E1500. They suggested that I contact Apple to see if their default IP address was that same as the router (192.168.1.1). They told me I would have to change it if that was the case. How would I do that?

MacMail has stopped noting when I have read an email. For example, I had 17 unread messages, so I read them. Despite me having read them AND deleted them, the inbox still has 17 new messages displayed. Can anyone help resolve the incorrect display?
Lord K. Thank you. Yes I am within the 90 time period, however I travel Intertionally and I can not receive not make a call to Apple. I was just at the Genius Bar in Chicago and they said, don't worry about it. It just floats out there, however, I can not recover my messages on a flash drive. I need to go back to my old computer which I don't have with me. My messages were in folders for a lawsuit. It is going to take an incredible amount of work for me to, you have no Idea. We are talking thousands of pages! I the defendent will have them during discovery so I am not so worried. However, I can not bring them to him on a Flashdrive when I meet with him without an extraordinary amount of presssure on my part. THis is not just some little email issue. This is suing EXPEDIA and Tripadviosr.com

I did not sync my iphone3 music to my computer. Thought I did it properly but did not. New at this stuff. Now my IT person installed and configured my new iphone4 and my music is on old phone. Anyway to get it to new phone. Help.:)
Set up your new phone as if it were the old one. Settings, mail, mobile me, same email same password that you used on old phone. You can still sync the old phone to iTunes library. You may have to click on picture of phone on the left & click on back up iPhone. You'll see songs, contacts & calendar downloading in apple slot at the top. When done connect new phone. Authorize computer put in apple ID when that screen comes up & that should allow both phones to share the library. If you use the same ID the same information will be on both phones.

i have read all of the numerous and similar issues on this subject. and i still cannot connect my new airport extreme. my old airport express works fine still. help. and why are there so many issues with connecting this stuff? i thought this stuff was supposed to be getting easier, not harder... thanks.
Sorry, but I have no idea on what you have read and tried so far so please forgive me for any redundancy.
Is your AirPort Extreme the only router in your current network configuration? Which exact model is it? If there are other routers being used, please provide their make(s) & model(s). Also the make & model of your Internet modem.
What is your goal with the Extreme? Is it to replace the "old" AirPort Express? Will you still be using the Express for any reason(s)? -
I would appreciate your help on how to configure a gmail in a way it ask for the password everytime I connect?. In the only way I can configure it I have to include the pw when configuring the account and after that it do not ask for pw so everyone that shares my iPad can oppen my mail with no pw required.
ThankThe iPad is designed to be a single user device, and there is currently no way to password protect the Mail app - even removing the account password from Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars will just prevent new mail being downloaded, it won't hide those that have already been downloaded. There is this work-around for the app : https://discussions.apple.com/message/13127632#13127632 . Also there might be third-party email apps that feature password protecting.

Can't enable the ethernet socket on my Airport Express; Help!!
Am I correct in assuming that I can plug a non-wireless enabled laptop into my Airport Express Ethernet port and access my home wi-fi network?
I have a new(ish) Airport Extreme which is plugged into my Siemens Gigaet SE587 router. At the moment I use my old Airport Express to play stream iTunes into another room. We've just bought a disturbingly large TV which is internet enabled and was hoping to plug it into the Airport Express. Before doing this I disabled the AirPort on my laptop and plugged an ethernet cable into the Express expecting it to pick up the internet. It didn't!
I've spent the last few hours playing with the Airport Utility and reading posts on this forum; one suggested selecting an "enable ethernet" box in Airport Utility but I have no such option.
Can anyone help??

You need the 802.11n version of the AirPort Express to do what you want. Look on the side of your device for the Model No in the faint print. You'll need Model No A 1264 to do what you want. It sounds like you have A 1088. -
Upgraded to 5.2.1 AirPort utility, now can't read AEBS config
I have a new AEBS with gigabit ethernet ports. It came with software version 5.2 on CD. Just installed the suggested 5.2.1 AirPort utility upgrade now cannot open configuration of AEBS. The software sees the AEBS and can see the name and IP address (initial screen) but if I click either "Manual setup" or "Continue" it just sits there with "Reading base station...etc"
Anyone struck this problem? Bit annoying with first software update.SOLUTION TO TRY
As I mentioned I did a network packet sniff and found IPv6 traffic going between Mac and AEBS. I had one machine (MacPro) which had 5.2.1 update installed and one (MacBook) which didn't. The MacBook 'handshaked' sucessfully via IPv6 with AEBS, the MacPro did not.
Based on that analysis I turned off IPv6 protocol on the MacPro and was immediately able to communicate with and read config from AEBS.
To try yourself to see if it solves problem:
1) Using account with administrator privileges open System Preferences, or use user account to open and authenticate after with administrator account.
2) Open System Preferences | Network
3) Choose either wired (Built-in Ethernet) or wireless (Airport) network connection and click "Configure"
4) Choose TCP/IP tab then click button "Configure IPv6..."
5) Set drop down list "Configure IPv6:" to "Off"
6) Click "Apply Now"
7) Retry to connect and load AEBS config - should work.
IPv6 is not needed for most machines, it is not required for Internet access.
Please note this is a workaround, I believe a bug was introduced in the 5.2.1 AirPort Utility update.

Can I use an old Airport Express to extend the range of a new Airport Express?
Hi all. I have an old Airport Express 802.11g (First Gen?) that is starting to fade. Still works, but not what it used to be. So I am going to buy a new Airport Express. I'm not interested in the Airport Extreme.
Question: If I use the new Airport Express as my main wireless router, can I plug my old Airport Express into another room as an extender? In other words, with the old Express and the new Express talk to each other or will a new Express only allow extension with another new Express?
Thanks!Sorry, but the old AirPort Express 802.11 b/g does not have a setting to "Extend a wireless network", so it cannot be used as a extender with the newer AirPort Express if you plan to connect wirelessly.
If you plan to connect the older Express using a permanent wired Ethernet cable connection, then it could be configured to provide additional wireless signal coverage in that manner. -
HELP NEEDED!! I bought a brand new mac air 11 inch a month ago, and for three days now I can't switch it on.when I do, i can hear the machine is on, but nothing else happens. (yes it is charged). please help.

Today an Apple tech helped me 60 min ago. Although my wife and I have diff apple ID's, our music was mixing and syncin back and forth. The tech told me to create new comp user account for wife which I did. I wiped out everything on her ipod and signed in under her ID. When I tried to put it back I got a message that I couldn't download her purchased music for 90 days because there was another apple ID associated with my computer. Not sure wether that means mine or hers. What I am sure of is that I'm dead if I can't get her music back. Please help. Thanks, Craig
I can understand how that would be frustrating. If you created a brand new Apple ID for her, your Apple ID should not have been affected any more than anyone else's. They are as separate from one another as your Apple ID is from mine.
Since you just bought your MacBook Air, you can certainly contact AppleCare for this, and I encourage you to do so. They will straighten it out.
Until then, if you want to troubleshoot this on your own, sign in to your Apple ID here:

Click the blue "Manage your Apple ID" button. If it says it no longer exists or gives you other hassles, it's probably not worth your effort to pursue. Have Apple fix it.

My old laptop crashed, and took my iTunes account with it. I got a new laptop, and want to sync my iTouch to iTunes. It gives me an error message stating that I can't sync to multiple iTunes accounts, but I can't access my old one!
How can I get my new iTunes account to allow me to Sync my iTouch? The only option it gives me is to "transfer purchases" from my iTouch to iTunes, but that is only about 25% of my iTunes library-most of it is CDs I have uploaded. How can I Sync without losing all my music from my iTouch???
Also, I have lectures and photos, etc. on my iTouch that I don't want to lose.
I've tried a few of the iPod copy programs-the free ones and the ones you have to pay for, but I can't find one that will work for ALL my content on an iTouch.
Right now, I can't get anything from my iTouch to iTunes, and I can't update my iTouch with my new iTunes purchases, so I'm stuck! Help!Also-I tried to use my backup hard drive, but I wasn't able to drag/transfer/send/move any of my muic files onto my iTouch when the iTouch was connected to my computer. There is no such thing as a "sub-account." Also, you probably mean iTunes library, when you say "account." Your "account" in iTunes is your Apple ID, which is what you use to sign in to the iTunes Store to make purchases. iPods are associated with an iTunes library, not with an Apple ID (iTunes Store account). You'll need to clarify...
So, this is what I think you are saying. You previously shared an iTunes library on a computer with your friend. Your old iPod was synced to that iTunes library.
You got an iPhone, and at that time, you set up your own iTunes library. Is that on a different computer? How does the iPhone affect your question about the iPod?
You got a new iPod. What is your "old iTunes"? Is that the iTunes library you shared with your friend? -

I decided to change my apple id on my iphone 5 to have a seperate account from the other people in my family. I changed all of the settings to the new id and I can't sync new apps or music to my phone and apps on my phone will not sync to my computer. Please help!!!
If you didn't already do so, authorize your computer for the new ID by opening iTunes and going to Store>Authorize This Computer. Then sync your phone with iTunes.
