Help -can't reboot after restore

My son needed to run some Microsoft CAD software on his iMac.  So we successfully partitioned the hard drive, installed boot camp, and got the microsoft partition working.  We then restored the mac partition from his time capsule back up. Restore appeared to be ok but then the system wouldn't reboot - just hung on grey screen and spinning wheel.
I've tried using the install disk (snow leopard) to clear the mac side of the drive and recover again with a slightly earlier back up - same result.
I've use the instal disk to do disk repair - nothing found - then did a permission repair - lots of changes.  Then did disk repair again - nothing found. then rebooted holding the alt key to give me the choice between the two partitions.  Again on mac side hung on grey screen and spinning wheel. Microsoft side booting fine.
I've disconnected everything and am using a wired keyboard as I read some stuff that suggested this in case a device was causing an issue.
Anybody got any ideas?

Normally it should work within 5 mins .
Try this steps
01.Remove all other devices from computer (Network cable , printer, card reader) , leave only the power cable , usb keyboard and mouse
02. restart your mac and asap and when  its restart press this 4 keys from the keyboard
keys : apple(cmd) +Option (alt)+P + R.
03. your mac shoud restart in this point ,, DONT relese the keys. so this should happen again and your mac should restart 4 times continuesly. after your imac restart after  4th time you can relese the keys.
04. Then try to press the " shift" key and see if its loading the OS from safeboot
Hope that helps

My iPhone 4 can not reboot after upgrading to iOS 6; keeps trying and cannot shut off either.

I FINALLY got it to work on BOTH iPhone 4 and iPpad 3.  Here is what I had to do:
Had to DELETE all e-mail accounts including icloud.
Did a hard reset (hold down button on top right corner and round button on bottom center)
Then once it came back on, the iPhone had ALL of the accounts still on it and it was receivng e-mail.
The iPad receive e-mail until I did the steps above 5 times.  Plus, I had to add back all of the e-mail accounts vs. on the iPhone 4 they were there when my phone came on.
Now I am receiving e-mail on both devices normally.
No clue why this happened, but Apple needs to find a fix ASAP.

  • Profile manager can't enroll after restore from time machine

I am using mac mini server as ipad manaagement server ,the server cashed and can't load the OSX,then i use time machine to restore the backup ,after that i try to enroll new ipad to server but it can't.
also i can't push the setting through the server to ipad
    anyone can help me?

There could be a few reasons for this.
First what version of OS X do you have installed?
What version of OS X is the Time Machine Backup file from?
Did Reinstalling OS X from Recovery install the same version you had before reinstalling?
If you have not changed OS X versions then:
It sounds like there may be a bad file in the backup that is causing the computer to not startup after restoring it. This is especailly true if the computer boots just fine after a fresh installation of OS X, but without the Migrated Data being restored.
If that is the case, then the solution is not a quick one. You have to hunt down the bad file.
Moving Files Manually (Not in Migration Assistant)
Manually access your Time Machine backup folder from within Finder (you should see the backup drive in a Finder Window or on your Desktop). Once open, manually move data from the User folder (documents, music, movies, photos etc.) into their respective folders on the Mac. Reboot after each folder you move to see which folder contains the corrupted file then delete the affected folder/file after reinstalling OS X from Recovery.
If none of the files cause the computer to hang at startup after moving all your User data, then the issue is from within the System or Library folders.
NOTE: DO NOT manually move Applications, System, or System Library files over to the Mac. You can cause major issues with the current installation by doing so. It is safer to just reinstall all the Apps from wherever you got them so they can recreate their support files and such themselves.
    2- Using Migration Assistant
Basically, if you have discovered the affected file. You can just simply delete it from the backup folder.
Reinstall OS X after you have done that, and use Migration Assistant to automatically migrate the data over minus the affected file/folder.
Its a pain in the rear, but it will at least let you salvage most of your data.
Let me know what happens riorec!

  • HT201328 Why my phone can't activate after restore? Even att confirm my iphone is qualify to unlock. Pls help anyone. Thx!

    I

    KiltedTim,
Are you saying that if my iPhone is currently jailbroken and unlocked via Cydia and I just got it "unlocked" permanently by AT&T it would not be possible to upgrade to the latest iOS and use non-AT&T SIM card?
Basically, I just go my iPhone unlocked by ATT and it is troublesome all the times to go through the UltraSn0w process to unlock the phone after jailbreaking it.
Can I just now go ahead and restore my iPhone to the latest iOS and not worry about jailbreaking it/unlocking it since now AT&T has unlocked it permanently and use it with any other GSM network?
Please advise... and thank you for your help in advance

  • Can't activate after restore. Know for a fact it wasn't jailbroken. Help?

I backed up my phone, deleted all the content and reset it. Now I'm unable to activate it. I've been trying for several hours so I don't think it's because the server is down.  From what I've read this happens when a phone is jailbroken.  I'm the only owner of this phone and I know it's never been jailbroken. Is there anything else that could cause this? How can I fix this?

I kept getting the "Your iPhone could not be activated because the activation server is temporarily unavailable" message.  I tried activating over my WiFi at home and with iTunes on two separate computers. None of it worked, so I went to AT&T. I tried activating it over the WiFi at AT&T and we tried it with a different SIM card.  I've tried restoring it using iTunes. None of it has worked.

  • Can't Unlock after Restore

My Nano is stuck in the locked position. So far, I have:
    1. Tried Reset(Select+Menu) many times
    2. Toggled Hold back and forth hundreds of times
    3. Restored the software and device using iTunes seven times (this works as it should, but iPod will not unlock)
After doing Restore, the iPod screen asks to select the language (as in a normal restore), but I can't....the iPod does not respond to any button pushing! The closed-lock icon remains in the upper left corner of the screen. Shortly after the apparently successful Restore, the screen dims and the iPod becomes unresponsive.
The battery is indicated as fully charged.

Hi Corvoid, and Welcome to Discussions!
Try searching these discussions using the Search box in the upper-right hand corner. I have seen this issue posted before, and I believe some people have found a solution.
If you can't find a solution that works for you, I would suggest sending the iPod back to Apple. All iPods come with one year of complimentary warranty with your new iPod, if the 5Rs don't work for you. Go to http://www.apple.com/support/ipod
On the right side, there is a column titles "Repair and Status." See the link called "Request Repair Online." This will take you to a step-by-step warranty request.
Once your request is processed, Apple will send you an empty box to send your iPod in, with prepaid shipping. Once Apple receives your broken iPod, they will send a new one out. Please be sure you understand the terms and conditions of the repair process.
Keep in mind that it is estimated that Apple has sold over 15 million iPods this Christmas season. If only 1% are defective, that is still hundreds of thousands of iPods that have problems. This is just due to manufacturing and materials - nothing is perfect.
In my experience, Apple's warranty return program is one of the best around. I have had an iPod returned to me within a week, and once it was in less than 24 hours. Keep in mind, however, that your times may vary, and that they may be extra busy during the Christmas season.
If you have a retail Apple store nearby, I would go there first. They may have replacements on hand.
    Good luck,
    Kyle-

  • Can't sync after restore

IPod screen required a restore. After doing that, I am unable to get all of my music/videos back on the Ipod. A "full sync" only put some of the stuff back. I tried manually dragging and dropping my music but it would only add 60 songs back on the Ipod. I cannot drag and drop any playlists. When I try, the Ipod won't "highlight" when I drag the playlists to it and nothing syncs.
Won't get into my absolute disgust with the lack of any docs about this on the support site. Seems like they feel if the five Rs don't do the trick it is your problem.

More fun: I called Apple support. First the guy tells me I need to update my usb driver. Then he says never mind, that is for Windows.
But he suggested it could be a problem with the latest update of Itunes, which probably needs a faster usb port. He suggested finding an older version of Itunes and installing it.
    A) They ought to give you a warning that the update might cause a problem with an older Mac.
    B) The update was worthless to me anyhow, since it was basically to allow rented video and they don't support that for 5th Gen anyhow
    C) I downloaded ITunes 7.5 and installed it, only to find it would not work because it says my library was created with a newer version of Itunes (can't even create a new library, it simply won't start past that message)
Oh, but they did tell me I could pay $29 for more help with the problem that apparently they created.
I wish I could stomach the thought of a Zune because right now I am major P#$%ed off.

I have an iPhone 4s. The software started acting a little buggy so I opted to do a system restore. After I did, I can't activate my phone. I don't have service with a carrier and use the phone primarily on wifi, and I need to get it working ASAP.

It's because you were on the iOS 6 beta, which just expired. You'll need to get the final 6.0 release from the developer iOS portal here and install it manually.

  • Booting using single user to run appljack - can't reboot after

I have a newbie question and hopefully someone can answer it.
I am a long time windows user and recent Mac convert but I am having problems understanding Mac's commands in single user mode.
I logged into single user mode to run applejack and now everytime the computer starts it goes directly back to single user mode. According to the applejack documentation on the web it should reboot and start in normal mode after running but this is not happening! everytime it finishes and reboots it goes back into single user mode.
How can I stop this from happening?
    Thanks!

Restart your machine with the Option, Command, P, and R keys held down; if a setting in your firmware is causing your computer to boot into Single User mode, doing this will clear it. If this doesn't work, post back with the complete text of the messages that appear when you enter Single User mode.

  • New Hard-drive - won't reboot after restored with TM

First, I guess I should ask just how you did the restore. Did you start up from your Install disc and use the +Restore System From Backup+ option in the Utilities menu, per #14 in [Time Machine - Frequently Asked Questions|http://web.me.com/pondini/Time_Machine/FAQ.html] (or use the link in *User Tips* at the top of this forum)? If not, do that.
    |
Otherwise, you want #E8 in [Time Machine - Troubleshooting|http://web.me.com/pondini/Time_Machine/Troubleshooting.html]. Here's the direct link: http://web.me.com/pondini/Time_Machine/E8.html Here's the gist of it:
Why did you get a new drive? If the old one failed, it's possible it corrupted your system as it was beginning to fail, and those changes got backed-up, so were brought back when you restored.
In that case, you might want to do the restore over, but select an earlier backup, from before the troubles started. Just be sure to use your +Snow Leopard+ install disc.
If you used a Leopard Install disc to restore a +Snow Leopard+ backup, that won't work. You may want to just do it over with the +Snow Leopard+ disc, or your best bet may be to just install OSX from your Snow Leopard Install disc, then download and install the 10.6.6 "combo" update from the link there.

  • Can't reboot after reinstall [solved]

Hello everybody! this is my first post on the forum, so first of all thanks to all the devs for their work and to all the people here for their answers ( and please forgive my errors when i write in english!).
This is my problem: on my laptop I have WinXP on sda1 and arch on sda2, with grub installed on sda2; i modified boot.ini and I have dual boot with windows bootloader. With this configuration everything was fine, since my first "Noodle" installation.
Few days ago i decided to do some order in my laptop, so i reinstalled arch with Voodoo's cd, with the same configuration as above; i rebooted and everything was ok.Then i update all the system with pacman -Syu; upgrading went smooth with no errors (as usual in arch!), including kernel 2.6.22, but when i rebooted and chose arch from windows bootloader menu i obtain only a black screen with the word "GRUB" in the upper left corner and a sound of error from the hardware. I tried to boot from arch installation cd (arch root=/dev/sda2) and everything went well.
I search more infos and tried some workarounds, and at the end it seems that now grub can't boot from a non-bootable partition like my sda2 (bootable flag is on sda1 with windows); changing bootable flag solve the problem. So, what is changed? is a grub problem or arch booting system change? i'd prefer to boot with windows bootloader on sda1 and windows as default (because I'm not the only one using this laptop), is there a solution or i must use grub for boot also winXP? I apologize for the length of the post, and thanks in advance!

    Well, i'm at work now (last day before holiday!) and i don't have my laptop here, i'll post boot.ini this evening;
my windows sda1 partition is ntfs, and yes I used the dd command to create a copy of boot record of sda2 :
    dd if=/dev/sda2 of=bootsect.lnx bs=512 count=1
copied bootsect.lnx under windows C:  and modified boot.ini adding this entry (I don't remember the exact line i added)
    But I think that the "windows part" of the configuration is ok, because windows bootloader gives me the correct options and boot windows correctly;
the problem appears when i choose arch i windows'menu and the control of booting process pass to grub, which hangs with the black screen i described above.
Most of all i'd like to know what is changed with "don't panic" release, because everything was fine and boots correctly with "noodle","gimmick", "voodoo" and "duke".
As I say above, if i change bootable flag with fdisk and put it on sda2 grub starts to work again and show me the correct options "arch" and "arch-fallback", but in this way I'll have to uncomment windows entry in grub menu.lst and boot windows from grub; it's a solution but it's not exactly what I want.
    Thanks you all for replies!
