HELP! can't upgrade to snow leopard 10.6.3 to upgrade to LION (so i don't loose my mobile me account- Cause i need the iCloud) since my computer doesn't have intel processor. is there anyway to remedy this without having to purchase a new computer?
I just purchased $29.99 upgrade disk for Snow Leopard 10.6.3 and ten minutes later recieved an email from apple offering a free upgrade. I have been getting these warnings to upgrade to get to the CLOUD because my email account was going to be lost. Now my computer will not upgrade due to it not having an intel processor. This is ridiculous!! Does anyone know what I can do. This may end my relationship with Apple!!!!
I have a iMac G5.
Hello, don't worry, you CAN set up Mail in iCloud at the very least.
Do not delete the old account yet. sign up for an iCloud account if you haven't.
I understand .mac mail will still come through. Do not delete the old account yet.
You cannot use .mac or MobileMe as type of Account, you have to choose IMAP when setting up, otherwise Mail is hard coded to change imap.mail.me.com to mail.me.com & smtp.mail.me.com to smtp.me.com, no matter what you try to enter.
iCloud Mail setup, do not choose .mac or MobileMe as type, but choose IMAP...
On second step where it asks "Description", it has to be a unique name, but you can still use your email address.
IMAP (Incoming Mail Server) information:
• Server name: imap.mail.me.com
• SSL Required: Yes
• Port: 993
• Username: [email protected] (use your @me.com address from your iCloud account)
• Password: Your iCloud password
SMTP (outgoing mail server) information:
• Server name: smtp.mail.me.com
• SSL Required: Yes
• Port: 587
• SMTP Authentication Required: Yes
• Username: [email protected] (use your @me.com address from your iCloud account)
• Password: Your iCloud password
This may end my relationship with Apple!!!!
Everybody is out for the bottom lines these days, careful what you get locked into, especially with Apple moving towards more locked in everything.

I currently have OSX 10.4.11 and need to upgrade my software. I do not have Time Machine yet. My processor is an intel Core 2 duo. Do I have to upgrade to snow leopard 10.6.8 before upgrading to Mavericks?
Assuming your computer has the minimum system requirements yes, upgrade to 10.6.8 and then open the Mac App Store and upgrade to Mavericks. You can only get SL 10.6.x from Apple's online store, it is $20. Prior to upgrading to 10.6.x get an external HD and use a utility such as Carbon Copy Cloner or SuperDuper and make a bootable clone of your system to safeguard all of your valuable data. In the event you have a problem the backup will be invaluable!!!!!
Considering your computer is at best a 2007 iMac I would STRONGLY recommend upgrading your RAM to 6GB, the maximum a 2007 machine can accommodate. You can buy this from either Crucial or OWC (www.macsales.com).
Another option is due to the age of your computer is considering buying a newer machine. -

I've had a fault with the hard drive on my laptop, it's been replaced and now my iphone and ipod can not sync unpurchased items with itunes. Is there anyway of sorting this without uploading all of my CD's again?
If your CDs are on your iPod/iPhone, they can be recovered from there, see this post:

I recently ran an updatedafter being prompted multiple times. Now I find there are a number of songs that I cannot sync to my iPhone. Some are songs purchased from iTunes. Is there anyway to remedy this? I'd really prefer not to have to repurchase music.
Why would you repurchase songs simply because they will not sync? Sorry, that's beyond illogical, it's simply not smart.
What happens when trying to sync these songs?
Any errors? -
I have many thousands of songs in my itunes library. Unfortunately, most are now pointing toward .jpgs instead of the m4a files in my itunes library. Is there anyway to fix this without reimporting all the files into itunes from scratch?
OMG...I'm glad to know I'm not the only one. Since my computer is a goner, I don't have any other way to access all that music.

Since the update to iOS 5 I've been unable to access the Restrictions section in Settings. I didn't forget since it was the same as my unlock passcode and that works. Is there anyway to reset that without a complete restore?
Hi,
Thanks! I forgot to add, I have debonded and rebonded the bluetooth in car and phone and have carried out 3 restores on the phone in my ITunes. All to no avail. I have also jsut spent £40 on a lead from Ford that has made no difference too! I went to them today to request a software upgrade on my car as I though perhaps the lack of connectivity in the car was down to the car being behind the iOS5 software but was informed there was no need for an upgrade and this problem is purely an apple problem! Is there any way around the downgrade? Or are apple gong to resolve this problem at all?? -
My laptop has crashed and I'm in between getting a new one but need to update my iOS on my iPad, is there anyway of doing this without a laptop or computer?
If you can't update via wifi, you can use a friend's computer, or an Apple store will do it for you.
If you have an iPad 1, the max iOS is 5.1.1. For newer iPads, the current iOS is 6.1. The Settings>General>Software Update only appears if you have iOS 5.0 or higher currently installed.

iOS: How to update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

If you are currently running an iOS lower than 5.0, connect the iPad to the computer, open iTunes. Then select the iPad under the Devices heading on the left, click on the Summary tab and then click on Check for Update.
Tip - If connected to your computer, you may need to disable your firewall and anitvirus software temporarily. Then download and install the iOS update. Be sure and backup your iPad before the iOS update. After you update an iPad (except iPad 1) to iOS 6.x, the next update can be installed via wifi (i.e., not connected to your computer).
Cheers, Tom

I just test drove a Lexus ES with the Entune system, and it not only didn't play the music I expected, it caused the iPod to become totally unresponsive, even my computer doesn't recognize it? Is there a fix for this?
This problem sort of solved itself. The iPod kept running until the battery went dead, and when I plugged it in to power this morning, it behaved normallyh.

I am trying to install (upgrade to) Mavericks from Snow Leopard (10.6.8). However, the current version of Mavericks is 10.9.1. I'm being told that I can't do this upgrade without 10.9. Any ideas as to where I can find the straight 10.9 (pre-patch) version of Mavericks?
The version on the App Store for Mavericks is 10.9.1 and it's the full installer.
The only time you would need 10.9 is if you were installing the delta download of 10.9.1 from Apple's Software Update Support page.
So, just go to the App Store and you will be able to download/install Mavericks 10.9.1 without the need of 10.9. -
I have an iMac mid yr 2009 with snow leopard. I checked and my howdoi.swf 8.o r22 is power pc and my HP sofware updater is also power pc. How can I update these appls to be compat with Lion, as I am not computer savvy. or should I wait awhile to install Lion?

You may want to hold off upgrading to Lion for a bit and check with the HP site to see if they will update their HP software for Lion compatbility. -
I saved a document created on mountain lion on my flash drive. I cannot open the falsh drive on my other computer which is snow leopard. I was able to go back and forth until I installed snow leopard. Is this normal?
How is the flash drive formatted?
And, which application and which format did you use/save the document in? -
I uninstalled all other personas besides the default and the one I want and it still goes back to the old persona unless I keep firefox on default. \The desired persona is a sports one and it keeps defaulting to a surfing one.
Hi. The two user tips both describe a sequence of steps that should get your library from the point where it threatens to wipe data from your device to where it is syncing normally, while recovering as much information as possible. It may still be necessary to wipe and reload the device but this should only take place once all the data that can be recovered has been recovered.
Doing step 1 of 8 and then complaining things aren't the way you want them to be yet strikes me as premature...
Since you appear to have all your media content, and we are discussing an iPod classic, not an iOS device, the main worries are already taken care of. What's left is ratings, playcounts, playlist membership and checked status. Since your device holds only part of your library at best you could only recover the missing data for the content that is on the device using third party tools.
Recreating the previous checked/unchecked status of every track in your library from where you are now may not be that easy. Syncing with selected playlists has many advantages, one of which would have been that you would have a named playlist that could have been retrieved by 3rd party software if you had used this method.
You haven't explained what caused your problem in the first place, but if you have a Previous iTunes Libraries folder holding old copies of your iTunes database (generated with each iTunes update) then it would be possible to restore the most recent of these and then update the library with any changes in your media folder.
BTW Apple doesn't offer free support for this kind of issue with iTunes.

Whenever I start up, my macbook goes to one of my neighbors wifi's which is painfully slow. Also, this is for my business and I don't want to be surfing thru other peoples routers... How do I get it to just connect on my network? (10.6.8 is my operating system)
When you go into System Preferences, and click on Network, highlight wifi on the left, and click advanced. Does this show your network/router that you want to automatically connect to? If yes, click cancel, then see if "ask to join new networks" is checked. That will cause your system to join your defined network first, and will then ask, if it's not available, if you want to join another network.

Sleep indicator light not working after upgrading to Snow Leopard
Hello all, I recently upgraded to Snow Leopard on my mid-2007 Macbook Pro (Macbook Pro 3,1, 2.4Ghz Core 2 Duo, 4GB RAM) and after the upgrade the sleep light no longer comes on when I shut the lid or when the display is powered off.
Not a huge deal, but might be an issue if I can't remember if I shut the computer down or put it to sleep last—I did not do a clean install, but would anyone happen to know something I could try before resorting to that?
Thanks, your help is much appreciated!Have you tried Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)?
