Help! Can't use computer after 10.10.1 update

i updated my computer to Yosemite 10.10.1, right after it started i knew there was something wrong: the screen was completely black and the beachball kept spinning. After about 45 minutes of this I decided to turn it off and back on. When it turned back on my background image was there, but the finder wouldn't start and I got a message saying "atos needs to take control of another process for debugging to continue. Type your password to allow this." I had the option of cancelling or continuing. Since this message appeared every time I restarted, this is what happened after clicking on each option: "continue": I get a window with the FonExplorer X Pro icon that says "Bug Discovered, uncaught system exception: signal 4 (or 11). Would you like to submit a bug report or restart FontExplorer X Pro immediately?" Nothing happened when I hit any of the options (continue, restart or submit report), still finder was non-responsive, I could not relaunch it, and none of my desktop files were on my desktop (it's empty). When I hit "cancel" on that first window, I get another window saying "Developer Tools Access needs to take control...." Same as with first window. No matter which option I choose, I get the FontExplorer "Bug Discovered" window and have absolutely no way of using my computer.
I really need someone to help me out with this. How can I uninstall FontExplorer if I can't get into my computer? Finder is always non-responsive.
Any feedback is more than welcome. This is urgent, I'm a graphic designer and have no lack of work right now, fortunately, but this is a huge setback I can't afford.

Nevermind. Started the computer in safe mode and uninstalled FontExplorer. Seems to be working fine now.

Stop Skype from running on your computer. Quit or use Windows task manager to kill any Skype.exe processes.
Go to Windows Start and in the Search box type %appdata%\skype and press Enter. Find now a folder with the name of your Skype account. Open this folder. You will find there a file named config.xml. You may see only config but with XML Document in the Type column. Delete this file. Restart Skype.

Thinkpad E440 can't use wireless after 2.07 BIOS Update

Hi all, I need some help. I just bought a new thinkpad edge e440-Q01 last sturday. After I installed Win 7 ultimate 64 Bit, all the driver, everything work fine, i can connect to the internet, start working etc.
Then I update the BIOS, first it was 1.61 version then I upated my BIOS using BIOS utility for win 7 (downloaded from http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/default.page). After that i can't connect to the interter via wireless LAN. It was said that I need to turn on the "hardware radio switch", both intel wireless utility and thinkvantage connection utility says i need to switch the wireless on, but, i can't find the hardware switch for wireless on thinkpad edge e440.
I try to push F8 button, as there is a symbol of wireless LAN, but nothing happens.
Then when I open the device manager, there is lenovo connect 1.0 device and i can't find it's driver, so it remain as unknown device.
I try to reinstall the windows, but now i don't have bluetooth to.
Other driver such as GT740, Ethernet, chipset, usb, etc are working just fine.
Anyone can help?

just for addition, lenovo bios update utility have 2 option task. to update bios and model number. ican update the bios but not the model number.

Aperture is Apples version of Lightroom. This has nothing to do with Adobe. Ask on a Apple forum. You won't find many people here using this program.

When you say reset, do you mean a reboot by holding both the power and home buttons until the apple logo appears, ignoring the red slider if it appears?

Shouldn't be a problem, it does it in the background without you even knowing. Might slow things down a bit with that much data, though, so you could leave it overnight.

I did everything I normally do before an upgrade.
Fix premissons, etc etc etc..
Ran the combo updater & rebooted....
Checking my HDD & noticed I lost
my "jtmadman" folder in my User folder.
Any ideas???

A new user name showed up on my computer after a windows 8 update. A name I do not know or recognize. After the update, the screen showed 2 users, myself and the name "John". it wasn't there yesterday, & I am the only user. I also bought the laptop new so it can't be a previous user. Can anyone tell me how to remove "John" from my computer. I am going to do a system restore & see if that works. In the meantime, if anyone has ever had this happen, what did you do?

So sorry to hear about the trouble with Wi-Fi! Let's get that working the way it should. Could you provide us some more details regarding where this breakdown occurs? Are you having trouble with turning Wi-Fi on or connecting to your Wi-Fi? Are other devices connecting to your Wi-Fi without issue?

Can't Restart Computer After Software Update Download.

I have a PowerBook G4 which I had upgraded back in December to Leopard. After downloading software updates a couple of days ago, I tried to restart my computer and all I got was the Apple logo and the spinning gear. I brought my computer into the local Apple Store and the tech tried to archive and install from an external drive and the computer said there wasn't enough memory to install Leopard though the tech said I had enough RAM installed but that the computer wasn't reading the memory available correctly and that I needed a new memory board at a cost of $350.
I had a similar thing happen in December 2007 after I downloaded software updates. I brought my computer into the Apple Store. It seemed there was a "kernal panic." Everytime the tech deleted something it kept coming back "to life" and taking up too much "space" though this was different than not having enough RAM (I'm not terrifically computer saavy). I left the computer there for them to look at and a few days later due to whatever they did it was working again.
When dealing with the current problem a few days ago the tech said it was purely coincidental that the computer stopped working immediately after I downloaded software updates on two different occasions, but I found that very difficult to believe. I put in the installation disc that came with the computer and was able to get through the first steps of installing Tiger without actually beginning to install it, and I saw that the hard drive only had 49mb free and the tech said I needed 51mb to install Leopard. I called an Apple Care tech on the phone and asked if I could reinstall Tiger so that I could at least access the internet and retrieve my emails until I could get the Leopard issue resolved. He said doing so would delete Leopard and all of the documents I had done on it.
I mentioned I used to have my computer set up so I could access both OS9 and OSX on my computer and asked if that was now possible with Tiger and Leopard. He said I would need to go into the Apple Store and have them hook up my computer via firewire to another computer and boot up in target mode so that I could possibly delete some of the files taking up the memory and have enough room to install Leopard, or failing that could at least partition the hard drive and install Tiger until I could get the Leopard issue resolved.
I tried the safe boot someone suggested in a previous thread on this topic, but the computer would not boot up. Does anyone have any other ideas to solve this problem without taking the computer into the Apple Store? And how can I prevent this from happening during software updates in the future? I did not have the option with this last software update to choose only one download at a time. Software Update just started downloading what seemed to be one large update.

I'm having similar problem after upgrade on my imac. Hangs with white screen after logging out. Have to press/hold pwr button to shut off, then press to turn on.
I have a LaCie porsche ext hard drive attached by usb. Should I unplug this and try reinstalling mavericks? I didn't remove ext hd during the upgrade, was I supposed too?

Because of the xorg pkg. upgrades, I first thought X problems with my nvidia card but I found if I don't use slim, I can startx from console with no problem. I found if I changed to a different tty, killed x, etc. I could login and startx but the session would only last a couple of minutes and x would die. Seemed to do this even if I stopped slim with /etc/rc.d/slim stop but I was messing around with so many things that I can't be sure I actually stopped slim. As long as I didn't start it, everything seems to be fine.
The slim log isn't much help--it just mentions unable to connect to xserver, so for slim, it seems the upgrade to xorg-utils or xorg-server-utils is a problem.
Personally, I prefer to use no login manager anyway but this is on the main home computer and the wife likes to see a nice login screen (she doesn't like changes to the computer setup much).

I'm experiencing the same problem: since I updated my system with 'pacman -Syu' slim no longer works on my laptop. More precisely, in place of the usual login screen of slim I get a black screen without prompt, but I still can use Ctrl-Alt-F1 to login in on tty. I tried to start slim from rc.conf or from inittab, no difference.
This problem does not seem to be related to Xorg and my (trident) video driver, as I believed first: replacing slim by lxdm without changing anything else solved the problem completely. Nevertheless I was very fond of the simplicity of slim and I would prefer to use it again if possible, but I have absolutely no idea of what is going on.
