Help - cannot edit a pdf containing bridge hands

I have spent over a week trying to edit the text from a pdf containing bridge hands, similar to what you see when you look at a newspaper bridge column. I downloaded the trial version of Acrobat XI last week, intending to purchase it if I can get it to work, but I cannot. I have attached a jpg of page one. Can anyone help?

Does that PDF contain actual text, or is it a scanned image?
If you are unsure, share the actual PDF itself: http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1070933
If the document is a scanned image, you will need to perform text recognition (OCR) on it before you can edit the text.

What are you actually trying to do? Don't forget that Acrobat is not really an editor, but provides some tools to allow minor edits. If the file has security set, you may no be able to do anything.

  • Cannot edit my PDF

I just bought a yearly membership for $24 to be able to convert my pdf to word.  that didnt work. Is there a way to be able to edit the pdf file? Can

    Hi marina kalen,
Please give us a few more details about what the problem is. Have you been unable to convert the files? Or to edit the files once you've converted them to Word?
If you've been able to convert, try triple-clicking in the text block that you want to edit in Word.
If that doesn't solve the problem, let us know and please provide some more detail about the problem.
    Best,
    Sara

  • Cannot edit 'print pdf to folder' menu in Lion

With Lion when printing I am no longer able to edit the drop down PDF menu that resides in the left lower corner of the Print window. This is the menu that contains items such as "Save PDF to Web Receipts Folder". I can go through the process to edit the menu as far as selecting a new folder to save PDF's to but the selection is not retained in the dropdown menu. In the past this feature facilitated paperless sorting and filing of documents.
    Has anyone experienced this?
    Does anyone have a fix?

  • Cannot edit background pdf in designer

Hello, I am attempting to add some lines of text to some pdfs with forms created in earlier versions of livecycle designer. I am opening the form in designer ES3, but it was created in 8.
I cannot modify the text of the actual PDF in the background. It will allow me to select it in preview mode, but not in design view. Please advise.
edit: In addition, I have another PC with Acrobat X and the LiveCycle that comes packaged that is able to perform these edits.
edit 2: Many options are greyed out. When I hover over them this is the message: "this type of object cannot be used in forms with pdf artwork".

    Umm,
I don't see how you could do this with Designer.
A background artwork is a rendered PDF created by Designer's import filter when you build new a form from an existing PDF file.
Except the tag structure Designer itself does not have any tools to edit PDF's, it creates XML based forms (XPD) which it can be saved as PDF files.
You may have to edit the orginally PDF file, you used once to create your form.

  • Cannot edit embedded PDF file

    Hello,
I have created a form that is fillable by Reader users (using the "Extend Features..." function in the Advanced menu).  I have attached a file (another fillable PDF) using the "Attach file as a comment" function, but when opened in Reader, the embedded file is not able to be saved/filled in/digitally signed/etc.  Is there a way to accomplish this (or maybe another way to accomplish)?  I need the file to stay attached and filled out while embedded to avoid the need for a senior leader from having to save and reattach.  Thanks for any help available.

Thanks...do you know if there is something else I can do in place of this?  Thanks for an assist.

  • Signed into my account but cannot edit existing PDF.

Opened a PDF and clicked on "Edit PDF." It says "Get started now!" I click on that and it tries to sell me a one year subscription for $14.99 a month. Gee...seems like I'm already paying $19.99 for the same thing. There's a big vote of confidence for Adobe. Can't edit a file even though I'm logged into the account that I'm paying 30% more for. Anyone else have this problem

    Hey jdatbs077,
You might have signed in to your account using Adobe Reader after subscribing to Adobe online service.
In order to edit PDFs, you might need to purchase subscription for Adobe Acrobat Pro DC to access its features and functionalities like editing, commenting, etc.
Why don't you try downloading a 30-day free trial version for Acrobat Pro DC and see how it goes:

  • Editing a pdf file

I cannot edit a pdf file, although I can select the text I want to replace.  Instead I get text on top of the pdf text. The pdf file was originally an image, but I used "recognize text" before trying to edit the text.

You should see a blue bounding box around the text before you edit it when using the Edit Document Text command -- do you see this? If you chose the Clearscan option during OCR, you'll need to change the font first prior to editing the text.

  • How i can edit a pdf file

  • I cannot edit text in a PDF created from scanning

I am using Adobe XI, and I have created a PDF by scanning a document.
When I do click on a paragraph to edit text, all the page appears selected, it seems to be an image. At that moment a message pops up saying: this page has not editable text or digitalized content. The editing tools are disabled, so I cannot edit text.
If I do export a page to Excel or Word, I can edit text there, although there are some kind of data that is not converted properly (even when I have executed OCR).
I have edited preferences, but I am not sure if I did it correctly.
    Thanks

I am using Acrobat XI Pro on PC.
Of course, I have done all the steps you mention,  but I wanted someone to confirm me if these setting values are correct in order to obtain the best results. I repeat the paragraph of my previous discussion that I want to clarify, just in case some of you can help me, mainly about optimization
I digitalized the document from the scanner. This scanner is installed in the net, so I personalized the settings in Acrobat and I chose memory mode instead of native mode.
    Mode color: black on white
    Resolution: 600 ppp
As you say in your mail, I understand I should choose ClearScan OCR not searchable just at this moment.
Well, and what about the options of optimization?, JBIG2 (without lost)?, 4 CCITT?
And filters?, I have: activated, low, activated, medium
Are these values congruous or compatible?
    Thank you

I have re-installed Adobe Reader on to my Windows 7 PC. When I open a PDF I was getting an error message containing  . . . .Acrord32.exe
I now cannot open any PDF's and Adobe seems unresponsive. I have tried to follow a step by step guide on how to fix this but Adobe won't stay open long enough for me to complete the steps. When I open Adobe it stays open for a matter of seconds then minimises to the task bar and when I click on it again I can't do anything with it and have to close it via task manager
    Please help!?

Disabling Protected Mode should fix the problem.  But since you cannot even open Adobe Reader by itself, you need to do it via the Windows registry.  If you tell me your installed Reader version, I can give you a registry script to do that.
