Help! Cannot remove or update Reader 9.3 in Windows 7

Hi,
I am running Windows 7 with Firefox 3.6 and OpenOffice 3.2 on a Lenovo laptop with 200 GB hard disk, most of which is free. I had Reader 9.3 installed, and it was running fine. I kept getting notifications from Adobe that I should perform an update. So I attempted to do so. The update crashed and returned Error 1402. So I tried to uninstall with the Windows uninstaller. The uninstaller crashed and returned Error 1402. So now I can neither fix Reader 9.3 nor get rid of it. And I cannot use it. Can anyone tell me how to get the installer/uninstaller to work, or how to force a manual uninstall?
Thanks!

By the way, I do have administrator rights.
When I mentioned "sweating blood" I was referring to "seizing ownership" of the subkeys, as detailed here: http://social.answers.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/w7repair/thread/71cdd66a-75ce-4e79-bace-8 9637e0dacae
Sometimes I had to go up a level or two before I could influence the subkeys. And sometimes I had to add a new key. In a few instances I had to name the key "command" or "win32" or whatever Adobe was looking for. In other instances I added a "new key" and then the subkeys that belong to the key in question appeared out of nowhere. In cases like these, I deleted my "new key" and proceeded to adjust the permissions on the subkeys. Since I was always going back to the same header keys, after a while I started adjusting the permissions on all the subkeys of the headers I was using: for example. if the header was HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Adobe, I would adjust the permissions on all the subkeys. After each registry adjustment, I tried to install the program. I found that I was constantly being sent back to the same registry "headers", so I started to adjust the permissions on all the subkeys of these headers. I believe that this shortened the process.

I CANNOT REMOVE NOR UPDATE MY 7.0.8 VERSION OF ACROBAT READER. I'VE TRIED MANY FIXES TO REMEDY MY PROBLEM, WITH NO LUCK. THE ERROR MESSAGE I GET PROMPTS ME TO "CHECK WITH THE APPLICATION VENDOR TO INSURE THIS IS A VALID WINDOWS INSTALLED PATCH". PLEASE HELP ME REMOVE THIS NON-FUNCTIONING, OUTDATED VERSION WITHOUT DAMAGING OTHER PROCESSES.

Hi..I went ahead and ran the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility. I used it to remove "Adobe Reader 7.0.8." After doing this, I checked in "Add/Remove Programs" in the Control Panel to make sure that AR 7.0.8 was gone, and it thankfully was. Then I deleted the WICU, ran CCleaner's registry cleaner, rebooted, and tried to install Adobe Reader 9.0. When I tried this, I got the following error message (this occurred during the time when the installer was "writing system registry values"):

Verify that you have sufficient access to that key, or contact your support personnel.*****
What should I do now? Do I need to do something about the "permissions" for this key?

  • Java VM Please help, Cannot remove and cannot Reinstall.

hello, I hope somebody can help me out here, I'm at my wits end. First of all I have xp pro file system NTFS, I have AOL DSL Broad band. I have attempted to get my Java Download DAYS ago and something went terribly wrong.
After the download I noticed that my java VM was not working so I attempted to remove it.
The program uninstalled but not totally. In My add remove software it says this: JAVA 2 RUNTIME ENVIROMENT, SE v1.4.1_01 size 88kb.
It has the regular change/remove but when pushed it uninstalls Then asks this: DO YOU WANT TO COMPLETELY REMOVE THE SELECTED APPLICATION AND ALL OF IT'S COMPONENTS? AND INSTEAD OF ASKING YES OR NOW IT HAS ON THE BUTTONS "OK" AND "CANCEL tHEN IF YOU SELECT OK IT ACTS AS IF IT IS UNINSTALLING BUT THEN IT STAYS RIGHT WHERE IS WAS.
With this being this way the download program will still do the download, But then states that there is already one in there, Then prompts to Would you like to uninstal this? ad then uninstals it but the same results happen, no working copy is installed.
If I try this: START RUN COMMAND Then type in jview te computer says "view is not recognised as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file."
If i go to the java cup in control panel, open it it reads " The system cannot find the registry key specified.: Hkey_local_machiene\software\javasoft\javaplugin\1.4.1_01"
From what I have described, cansomebody please help me to get a working a copy of java VM in my system? Please. My whole Buisness centers around placeing items for sale on Ebay and I cannot do this with out the VM. I really need help fast.
I can be emailed or imed, imeverlast is also my aol name. Please hurry if you know that answer to this problem. Thanks a Million! ;)

  • Please Help - Cannot remove previous owners number from imessage/facetime.

I have just bought a used iphone 4  after losing my last week. Was weird because I was receiving text messages which were for the previous owner when there was no sim card put in. Googled this and found out it was something to do with imessage. Anyway, new sim card came today, done a complete restore though itunes and put in new sim card, but whenever I try to set up imessage/facetime, I can add my own apple account but the previous owners number is showing and is ticked even though its grayed out. Cannot remove it at all. Have tried turning off wifi, signing in and out of imessage and facetime, and another restore but just cannot remove this previous data. Please help as am pulling my hair out now!

Thanks so much for your suggestion, was starting to think along them line - tried the sim card in another phone, works fine but it turns out the replacement sim I received today was sent out with the wrong number. Phoned t-mobile, apparently my sim card has been sent to someone else and I have received theirs..... I have been promised a replacement sim by the morning, fingers crossed everything is resolved by then! Thanks so much for your help.

  • Cannot remove an update request in Mac App Store

A friend used my macbook pro to purchase an app. I no longer wanted that app and deleted it.  However, the Mac App Store keeps asking me to update the app and when I click on 'update' it asks for my friend's App Store ID.  I would like to remove this update request so I can get back to using update all.
Anyone know which file on my Mac holds these requests?

Any ideas on what that file is called?
Yes, it's called a pirated app. Most of the times that folks see an update for Angry Birds and an Apple ID of someone else, it means that they have a pirated app. Angry Birds is not on their Mac, but someone has cracked an app that is sold in the Mac App Store (MAS) with the MAS-receipt from the free Angry Birds app.
This is the method that I came up with last year when pirated apps first started showing up after the advent of the MAS.
    Finding a pirated app -
When a stranger's Apple ID appears on your Mac in conjunction with an update for an app that you have never installed, you have a pirated app on your Mac. This pirated app has been cracked with the MAS receipt from the Angry Birds app acquired by the person whose Apple ID you see.
You may not have realized that it was a pirated app when you installed it. You may have believed that it was a trail version or a "free" version.
All MAS apps have a MAS receipt in their app bundle. Check any app acquired from the MAS. Right click on the app's icon in your Apps folder and choose Show package contents. In the Contents folder is a _MASReceipt folder and in that folder is the coded MAS receipt. It has the Apple ID of the MAS account that bought/acquired the app from the MAS. It is that receipt that the MAS uses to alert you that an app has an update. There would not be a notice of an update with someone else's Apple ID showing in the MAS on your Mac, if there was not an app with a receipt from this person's account somewhere on your Mac.
    Download the free app FindAnyFile (FAF);
    http://apps.tempel.org/FindAnyFile/
This app is easier to use and seems to be more powerful than Spotlight. Open FAF and in the box type _MASReceipt and press Find. It should come up with a list of every app on the Mac with a MAS receipt. Compare the apps with receipts in FAF's list with your purchased apps list in the Mac App Store. The odd app out should be the pirated app.

  • Help, cannot download software updates after HD erased!

    Hello community,
Back story: I'm an ISM major, so I'm typically pretty good with computers. I've also played with some torrents and I understand the risks that come with them but I'm someone who does my research before downloading. Well, I have Leopard (running 10.6.3 currently) and obviously, I kept up to date all the way up to 10.6.8. However, I wanted to get Lion so I downloaded a copied version of the "App Store" version of OS X Lion. This is where the issue begins. I started downloading then in the middle of the download it says cannot continue, hard drive has an issue or has failed (something of that nature).
Issue: So, I erased my HD completely. It was the only option, especially since I lost my original Macbook Pro discs (2008 version Macbook). I erased it, even the Apple guy on the phone agreed that if I did this I should be good to go. Well, I'm not. I'm trying to get back to 10.6.8 so I can start recooping all my lost stuff but when it goes to download the combo update it always stops midway through saying "cannot connect to server" or "update may be corrupt," etc. I don't understand the issue...this may as well be a brand new computer again, no? I'm very computer savvy but this is just boggling my mind. I've searched hundreds of topics and nothing works. For the longest time I was getting "invalid checksum." SO, I erased my HD again, don't get that anymore, and now I'm back to the "update corrupt" issue.
Someone please help me, I'll be checking this every couple minutes all night. I couldn't get a Genius appointment until Thursday so I'm trying to just fix this myself.
PS: Everything works fine, I can download everything as usual, etc. I literally just cannot get any Apple stuff. I've even tried downloading it from the page to avoid the "Software Update App" and it still screws up.
    Thanks!

    I have Leopard (running 10.6.3
Leopard is 10.5.x, 10.6.x is Snow Leopard.
I wanted to get Lion so I downloaded a copied version of the "App Store" version of OS X Lion
Wouldn't work even if it downloaded succesfully, Lion & up are internally keyed to UUIDs, Apple IDs, & more.
    Try the 10.6.8 Update directly...

  • Help - cannot remove CD or boot or get back to OS X!!!

I'm on an early 2008 Mac Pro.
I inserted a 32 bit XP SP2 CD when boot camp told me to, and it starts up with
Waiting for 3ware controller to initialize…
    and hangs.
I've tried turning my RAID on (which I had no intention of using with Boot Camp), but that had no effect.
I tried holding down the left mouse.
I tried "Restart the computer while holding down Command-Option-O-F"
    I tried the keyboard eject.
    Nothing works.

    Dear all,
I have an intel core duo IMAC 20" (purchase around 2 years ago) and I now decided to install win xp using bootcamp through Leopard. I managed to install windows on a 32 GB partition and now I can only log on to windows and there are no drivers installed for the majority of the hardware. I must say that for some reason, I also did not get the chance to create any windows drivers disk. In addition to that, there is no way that I can switch back to Leopard from Windows. While booting there is no possibility to select any other OS apart from windows xp and I even tried to use the command line through windows in order to type the c:\progra~1\Bootca~1\bootcamp.exe -StartupDisk "Mac OS"
Shutdown /r /t 0 command but it does not work since there is no Bootca~1 directory in Program files. I should also mention that in Control Panel I do not have any BOOTCAMP icon...
Is there something I can do about it or have I lost everything?
    Thank you in advance

  • Help, cannot download itunes 7.5 to my XP windows, please help me

Hi, just purchased a new ipod shuffle gen 2 on the weekend. Have tried numerous times to download i tunes 7.5 but it keeps coming up with error message, itunes75setup.exe is not a valid win32 application. And it just wont go any further. This is very frustrating as i cant even play my new ipod. does anybody know how to help me??

Try downloading a copy of the installer to a different PC (preferably one in which an iTunes 7.5 install has already gone through successfully).
burn the iTunes75Setup.exe (installer) file to a CD-R (or copy it to an external harddrive, and carry the CD or ExHD back to your PC. Copy the iTunes75Setup.exe to your desktop (don't try to run the install from the exHD or CD), and then try starting the install by doubleclicking the iTunes75Setup.exe on the desktop.
Does that go through any better?

  • Cannot Remove Drop Shadows for Icon Labels on Windows 8.1 Desktop

I have a new Dell Laptop with Windows 8.1 and a touch screen.  The Icon labels on the Desktop have black shadows on white text. I have searched for answers and have tried the following, none of which worked.  Is there anything else I can try?
Removed the checkmark by "Use drop shadows for icon labels on the desktop" under System Properties, Advanced, Performance Options, Visual Effects tab, clicked on Apply, rebooted.  Verfied that the ListViewShadow DWORD value in HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced
    is set to 0 (zero).
Made sure that the "Show my desktop background on Start" on the Taskbar and Navigation properties Navigation tab is unchecked.

    Hi,
Have you restarted the computer before checking the results?
Also, I suggest you configure this registry key since HKEY_CURRENT_USER is just a mapped one of current user:
    HKU\S-1-5-21-************\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced\ListviewShadow
Note: Find your user GUID under HKU.

  • Cannot remove older version of Apple Update to reinstall Itunes, tried control panel, no help, what do I do

Message: "Cannot remove older version of Apple Update" when trying to reinstall Itunes. Tried using add remove programs in control panel, no help. Tried installing new quicktime, same message -- what do I do to get Itunes working again on my computer, using Windows xp

I'm glad I put a smile on your face Stuff like this can drive me nuts.
As I went to bed last night, I thought the same thing as you, to try a system restore. Otherwise, to answer the rest of your question, in XP, the location of the Update is in your Program Files/Apple Software Update.
To find the hidden files that may be stopping you from disabling the updater, and doing a clean install, go to:
My Computer, and on the Menu bar, click Tools/Folder Options/View/Show Hidden Files and Folders/click Apply/OK then double click on your main drive (C:)  then Documents and Settings/your user name/Application Data/ and delete the Apple computer folder with it iTunes and Preferences.
Also in that previous views Local Settings/Application Data/Apple (Update Software)and also Apple Computer/iTunes.
Go back to Documents and Settings (again from C: drive mode) click on All Users/Application Data/Apple and if you open up Installer Cache, you will also see that it has an Apple Updater in it (unless it was uninstalled on the original uninstall). Also from that Application Data window, you will see Apple Computer Folder which has previous iTunes info that needs to be deleted. Some of these folders may be gone, but at least you can check to see, to make sure.
Here is a link from another post, to confirm or help clear up any of my paths/solutions.
When you've done all that, restart your PC, and I would run CCleaner  (the free version links are just below the Buy and Download button) just to clean things up, and try your re-install.
    Hope I didn't overwhelm you.

  • Remove an update for Adobe Reader

    Hi everyone,
I have searched around and couldn't find an answer regarding this... I would like to remove update 11.0.10 for Adobe Reader. I need to do this in order to test some of our in-house applications.
I would like to remove the update only, not the whole Adobe Reader application since we might have to push a solution to thousands of people.
I tried multiple MSIEXEC.EXE commands to uninstall the patch but always get an error stating that this patch cannot be uninstalled. is it true? Am I forced to uninstall the whole product?
    Thanks for your help

I should say so, yes. I don't think Adobe Reader does the necessary thing of keeping copies of all modules at all versions so you can roll back selectively.
You could probably slipstream patches into the original 11.0 installer to make a single install, using normal Windows Installer techniques.

  • PLEASE HELP !!! updated 7.?.? to 8.1.1 now cannot slide to unlock/screen unresponsive

updated my 5s from 7.*.* to 8.1.1  It worked fine for a couple days, then one day I woke up & went to open my phone & the touchscreen does not respond at all. First I tried using 2 separate chargers & even went & bought a brand new Apple charger. that didn't work. So then I erased then reinstalled itunes on my computer. Still no luck. I then put it into "restore mode", did a complete uninstall & restore. Still no change... I am completely pulling my hair out !!! I am past my warranty date & Apple has been no help... But my 5s is in mint condition, not a single nick or scratch. I have had every iphone since day one & have never had so many issues as I have now. So if anyone could offer any advice, it would be greatly appreciated. Again any help would be SO greatly appreciated.
    <Personal Information Edited By Host>

Marylanda....perhaps you need to reread the original problem.  The problem has nothing to do with rearranging apps within a collection.  The problem is that when plugged into iTunes (to sync) and trying to remove apps under that format, the "remove" button is no longer available to click.  It's "grayed" out.  You still have the ability to Install apps that way but not "remove" them.
I had a friend suggest that I turn off Restrictions on my phone, thinking that might be causing the problem.  However, even after doing that, I still cannot "remove" apps while plugged in to iTunes.
Someone really needs to help with this situation, since it appears to be happening to more and more people.
