Help! Cannot see ABS in Airport Utility

This has gone on a while. I now want to add a Airport Express however neither of these show up in the Airport Admin Utility. I have restarted and reset the ABS with no luck. Am I missing something. It should just show up. My signal is strong and the connection to the internet is fine. What's up? Here is what I have:
PB 1ghz
Airport Extreme
Airport Express
Speed Stream 5360 dsl modem
OSX 10.4.3 was happening with earlier versions
Airport Software 4.2
Thanks in Advance Norm

Make sure on your Mac that in System Preferences->Network->Show ethernet built in->TCP/IP tab that the only selection is to "configure using DHCP". Then turn off the Mac's Airport card (Airport menu), plug the ethernet cable from the Mac into the AEBS ethernet LAN port, and see whether that works any better.
Sometimes it helps to just try using another Mac or a PC - and see whether it has any better luck. That would rule out the possibility that you just have (for lack of better words) a "messed up Mac".
If that fails, I suggest you try a hard reset and reconfiguration per the article Starting from scratch

  • Cannot see Timecapsule in Airport Utility on Windows XP

    Just purchased a 2T TC and can connect MBP and Macbook air ok.
    I also have a Lenovo laptop with Windows XP that uses TC for internet access that works ok. When I run Airport Utility (v5.5.3) on Windows XP it cannot see the TC. I have Bonjour Printer Services installed as well
    Main reason I want to connect to TC is to access a Canon MP800 MFP printer connected to the TC via USB.
    Appreciate any help or suggestions ( and I know I should upgrade to Windows 7 or Mac OSx however that is not an option at the moment :-).

    Hi I dont think it is a ethernet/wireless issue - wireless on XP laptop works in other networks and in fact can connect to TC router - I am just not seeing the TC when I use Airport on the Windows XP machine.
    Taking a different approach - I have been able to set up a local pinter on the XP laptop using an IP port that points to the USB printer connected to the TC and this works.
    I am still intrigued as to why Airport on XP cannot see the TC however the workaround is fine
    Thanks for the ideas LaPastenague - much appreciated

  • I have just purchased and installed a new Airport extreme base station but now the Airport Utility cannot see my old Airport Express. Are their compatibility issues and do I need to purchase a new Express?

    I have just purchased and installed a new Airport extreme base station but now the Airport Utility cannot see my old Airport Express. Are their compatibility issues and do I need to purchase a new Express?

    When you can, take a look at the old AirPort Express and locate the model number in the faint print on the side of the device.
    If you see A1084 or A1088, this is an older Express version that is no longer supported by the current version of AirPort Utility that you are using with the new AirPort Extreme.
    If that is the case, your Express is at least 6 years old...probably older...so it is about time to treat yourself to a new version with much faster speeds and more features.

  • Airport Extreme works fine but I can't see it in Airport Utility

    Have seen numerous posts on this issue but no solutions!
    I have a MB Pro running 10.4.11, Airport Extreme and Airport Utility 5.2.1. The Airport Extreme works perfectly, with no connection issues, but I cannot see it anymore in Airport Utility. I have another Airport Express hooked up to my stereo (for airtunes only), and can see this in Airport Utility, but not the Extreme. The Extreme used to appear here, but no more. Otherwise works fine. Just need to be able to reconfigure it.
    Anyone know what the fix is????

    I have this same issue. Internet works, I can connect to it, but i doesn't show in the Airport Utility. Also, it doesn't let me connect to other computers or my AirDIsk. I am using 10.5. Unplug and plugin style reset fixes it...for a while. Any ideas anyone?

  • ITunes can't connect to my new Airport Express even when light is green and see it with Airport utility. Please help!

    Hi,
    I'm using iTunes with my iMac and like listen the my music collection in my Hi-Fi which is 20 m far from the Mac. Because of the distance in my flat and other obstacles I'm using a power line. I installed the Airport Express through the Utility and no problems: Airport light is green and configured. iTunes air see it but it can't connect to it.
    I made several resets, plugged and unplugged the power and no change, but Airport light is always green, see it in iTunes and the Utility.
    This is driving my crazy!
    Any ideas ?
    Thanks

    Hi Jim,
    Thanks for reacting to my question.
    Yes, I did reboot the router, unplugged and replugged the Airport Express with ro result .... iTunes cannot connect to the Airport Express. I'm using power line to carry Ethernet because between my Mac and AE there are about 20 meters, but problems started since I updated AE version to version 3 ...
    It is also non sense because the Utility sees it and then suddenly disappears ! but light remians green ...
    I think there might be something wrong with the new firmware versions ...

  • Cannot install update to Airport Utility

    I've been having printing problems via Airport since updating to OS X 10.4.10. You can see my post about that under another thread: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=5183604
    I decided to download and install the "AirPort Base Station Update 2007-002 for Mac," which was released 8-13-2007. It contains Airport Utility 5.2.1 updater. When attempting to install, I got an error message saying that I cannot install it because it requires Airport Utility 5.0 to be present.
    So...I went to my Utilities folder and discovered that my version of Airport Admin Utility is 4.2.3! My Airport Setup Assistant is also 4.2.3. It says they were created in July of 2006.
    I am running OS X 10.4.10, on an iMac that originally shipped in April 2007 with OS X 10.4.8. I would assume that it should have included Airport Admin Utility 5.0 when shipped or from an update.
    I have searched the Apple website looking for a copy of Airport Admin Utility 5.0 to download and install so that I can update it to 5.2.1. No luck. I have no idea why I have an old version of these utilities that makes them non-update-able and I cannot seem to find the version I need in order to update it.
    Any suggestions? Is there another download?
    Thanks in advance for your help.
    Toria

    Thanks, Duane.
    I have the round Airport Extreme 802.11 b/g model.
    I am now a bit confused because Apple's info on the update says it is for "the AirPort Extreme Base Station with 802.11n, _AirPort Extreme Base Station_ and AirPort Express Base Station."
    My round one is the one underlined above, so I thought the update was for my model when reading about it on Apple's website at:
    http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/apple/application_updates/airportbasestati onupdate2007002formac.html

  • My MacBook Pro 2.33GHz cannot see the New Airport Extreme

    Just bought the new Airport Extreme(Wireless N). Power it up, cannot see the new wireless network under the Airport signal icon. The Machine have no problem using my older Netgear wireless router(G) and the new Linksys Wire router(N). Just connot see the new Apple Airport Extreme.
    My the other two iMac(G5 and Intel) 20" can see all three wireless network and connet to them without any problem.
    My only question is has Apple implement any "regional code" on the hardware. My MacBook Pro is from US and the new Airport Extreme was bought in New Zealand.
    Any suggestion? BTW a clean install of the System didn't help. Found out after 2-3 hours of installation of System and all my Application back.

    To use the Airport Utility you must select your network under that Airport icon but you can't. So what to try? Of course you may need to reset your router. If still not visually seen under Airport then go to system preferences/network/status and choose Airport. Look for the preferred drop down menu. If network is seeen then select it and hit apply. Then select under Airport icon then use the Airport Utility. If not seen in preferred then type in your network exact name or use the + button. The above will work you just need to keep trying.

  • Need help with port mapping on Airport Utility 6.1

    Ive been trying to port map on my TC with Airport Utility 6.1 and failing miserably. Port still closed. Can anyone advise where Im going wrong? Am trying to set up my home camera to be viewed outside.
    I managed to key in the ports etc under Network and Port Settings. But nothing works. I'm tearing my hair out.
    Any suggestions to try would be helpful.
    Thanks

    Use the 5.6 utility.. it is much easier and I think works better.. although you cannot load 5.6 directly into 10.8 the version for Lion actually works fine.
    Download 5.6.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1482
    Download unpkg
    http://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/16357/unpkg
    Open the AU 5.6 dmg and drag the pkg over the open unpkg.. it will create the directory on the desktop. You can either run it from there or drag the utility to your utilties directory.
    Take screen shots of each step. Post them here.
    That way we can tell you where it has gone wrong.
    What port exactly does the camera need open?
    How are you connecting remotely?
    ie do you have a fixed public IP?? If not how are you getting IP?
    Is the TC the only router in the network.. it is irrelevant unless the TC is the one and only router.

  • Time Capsule cannot be Discovered by AirPort Utility

    Hello Everyone, Plugged in my just purchased Time Capsule (powered up). Next, installed the Time Capsule software on my iMac. And last, double-clicked on the installed AirPort Utility program. It responds "discovering Apple wireless devices" and result is a message "AirPort Utility was unable to find any Apple wireless devices..." Time Capsule is in the meantime blinking orange. If anyone has an idea of what I'm doing wrong, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

    You might want to try first unplugging the power cord from the dsl/cable modem. Then unplug the power cord from the TC. Wait a minute. Then first plug in the modem's power cord then second the TC's cord. See if that works.
    Next you could try resetting the TC. Unplug the power cord. Use a paper clip to push on the reset button on the TC and at the same time connecting the TC power cord. When you see the TC's light blinking orange for a few seconds you can stop pressing the reset button with the clip.

  • Airport express cannot be found in Airport Utility

    I went and changed my network on my Mac.I thought I was just changing the name but realized I created a whole new network.   Now my airport express (which is used to stream all of my music from a receiver to my speakers in each room) is not recognized in Airport Utility. I have done a hard reset, factory reset, unplugged modem, base station (airport extreme) and express and it still wont appear.  Please help!.  I have tried plugging it in right next to my computer but still amber flashing light. I don't have a LAN wire to take out of another device and try it thru the computer.

    You son't want to set a static IP address on the Express, it will get that from the DHCP server up stream.
    If you now have the Express setup with the correct network name and password to match the rest of your network, best thing to do is shut every device down...doesn't matter the order.  Then power each up, and now the order DOES matter.  Start with the modem and give it time to stabilize, a minute or two, then the next piece in line, an Extreme or Time Capsul if that is what you are using, then the Express, then the computer.  These have to go in order so they get there IP addresses straight and you don't have conflicts.

  • My solution to not seeing devices in Airport Utility & iTunes

    Since I let Airport Utility upgrade to version 5.4.1 I have had all sorts of problems seeing devices on my wireless network. From the PC desktop where the upgrade took place, iTunes could not see remote speakers on an AExp and Airport Utility could not see either my AExt or my AExp. I tried eveything I could think of; resetting devices, reloading older versions of software, turning off the firewalls, etc.. I talked with a very knowledgeable Apple tech-supt person for a long time.
    The overall configurations is deskyop PC w/ Vista; HP laptop w/ Vista; older IBM laptop w/ XP; Airport Extreme on 5 Ghz; Airport Express on 2.4 Ghz bridged to AExt. All PC were running NORTON 360.
    The solution at least for me:
    1) Upgraded iTunes to version 8.1 because I ordered a new 4 GByte Shuffle. Not here yet, it actually shipped directly from China via FEDEX currently in Memphis.
    2) Then I noticed if I turned off NORTON 360 firewall I could see remote speakers in iTunes.
    3) Tried Airport Utility, with firewall off, I could see AExt & AExp. This despite with iTunes ver 8.0 I had tried the same thing without success. Yes I know I did, I worked for over 40 years in computer field, so when trying to diagnose / solve a problm I keep very detailed notes.
    4) Then started researching NORTON 360 and discovered a very new release version 3 had come out in last week or so. It got very good reviews in terms of new features and speed enhancements on the internet.
    5) The price was right, free if you have an active subscription for NORTON 360. I downloaded it and installed it. All issues immediately went away. Please read I am now a happy camper. Installed it on the other two laptops same result. They claim it will install in less than 1` minute. Not quite, but pretty fast. It also speeds many things up, like itunes loads in a reasonable time. It actually seems to be Apple aware.
    6) This site reviews 360 version 3 and points you to how to download. http://thetechangel.com/blogberry/2009/03/norton-360-version-3-out-now-plus-good -news-for-existing-users/
    7) Life is good! I have no affliation with Norton, just have used their products for a long time.
    Try it, I hope it wqorks for you.

    After a factory default reset, the AirPort will broadcast an unsecured wireless network with a Network Name of something like: Apple Network NNNNNN
    Can your computer "see" this network? If so, be sure that you connect to it first before attempting to access it with the AirPort Utility.
    If your computer can connect to this network, but it is still unable to access it with the AirPort Utility, try temporarily connecting the computer to the Extreme using an Ethernet cable.

  • HELP: Cannot See Child Node Values.

    I'm trying to print out child node values from following code, I can print child node name but cannot see child node values. Can somebody help me t o figure out this problem
    FOR childelement in 0..lengthchild-1
    LOOP
    IF childelement = 0 THEN
    kounter := kounter + 1; END IF;
    chnode := xmldom.item(childnodelist,childelement);
    v_childnode := xmldom.getNodeName(chNode);
    dbms_output.put_line('Child Node Name : '| |v_childnode);
    IF (v_childnode) is not null THEN
    chnodevalue := xmldom.getNodeValue(chnode);
    dbms_output.put_line('Child Value Is :'| |chnodevalue);
    ELSE
    dbms_output.put_line('Child Value Is NULL');
    chnodevalue:= null;
    END IF;
    End Loop;

    if you don't see any of the key values..
    and you know exactly what you are doing..
    you can create the registry keys and values.
    But make sure you know exactly what you are doing; adding and changing registry keys, might end up with a corrupt operating system.
    Please try the settings on a virtual environment, before applying to the production.
    If anything mess up with changing the registry you got your back covered, but if you're brave enough do it on the production server without doing the test on a VM.
    Every second counts..make use of it. Disclaimer: This posting is provided AS IS with no warranties or guarantees and confers no rights.

  • New Airport Extreme cannot be found by Airport Utility

    Previous to purchasing this new Airport Extreme(DualBand "N") I had the older model Airport Extreme. I also have two Airport Express devices. Previously, all 3 were detected immediately by Airport Utility and NEVER dropped off.
    Last week I replaced my Airport Extreme with a new one so that I could use the dual band feature and the guest access.
    Since then I cannot get Airport Utility to discover/find the new Airport Extreme. I can ONLY access it by using the Airport Utility > Configure Other... option.
    I've tried removing all devices except Airport Extreme.
    I've tried Airport Utility by wirelessly connecting to Airport Extreme.
    I've tried Airport Utility by hard wiring to Airport Extreme.
    I've tried factory default settings
    I've tried factory reset
    I've tried setting values manually
    I've tried setting values automatically
    I've tried older Airport Extreme firmware versions
    I've tried older Airport Utility software versions
    I've tried running Airport Utility from laptop
    I've tried running Airport Utility from desktop
    I've tried running Airport Utility from remote desktop
    I've tried waiting
    What is the problem with this device/software ????? I should add that at this moment the Airport Extreme firmware and Airport Utility are both fully updated.
    Thanks,

  • My computer cannot see my new airport express (Blinking Yellow)

    OK, Ive been sitting here for an hour and this thing keeps blinking yellow..lol
    I reset it twice but it will not appear in the airport setup utility.I am trying to extend my network from my Airport extreme in the basement.
    Im sitting 2 feet away from it on my macbook pro
    what gives?
    Message was edited by: Thomas Colontonio

    I hope you are sitting 2 feet away from the Airport Extreme with the Airport Express plugged in near it along with your MacBook.
    If not, you should do this all in the same room to begin with..
    Next, it sounds like you need to reset the new Express.
    Unplug it, push a clip into the reset button and while holding the reset button in, plug the Express back in and keep holding the clip in for at least 10 seconds.
    Now, wait a minute or two and see if the Express shows back up in the Airport Utility window.
    If it does, set it up again the way you want.

  • I cannot find the 'WPA passphrase' to connect my printer via wireless and cannot find it in Airport utility (MAC says it cannot find any open airports)

    MAC OS X 10.6.3 - desktop Mac
    I browsed similar questions and saw that someone recommended going to the Airport Utility and then selecting manual set up or something- anyways, it could not find any airports. I have brought my printer from my house as my BF's has died - this is the first time it's asked for a WPA passphrase. We tried a very long series of capital letters and numbers as well as the password for the internet and both times the printer said "invalid passphrase"..... ......

    Airport Utility is for administration of genuine Apple Base Stations. If you have a different Brand, Airport Utility can do nothing for you.
    I think they're using ethernet.
    To connect a Printer via Ethernet, no password is needed.
    We already tried the password for the internet and that did not work...
    If a password is required to connect to the Internet, then WiFi is likley being used, and that WiFi password is the one needed for the Printer connect wirelessly as well.
    What make&model Printer? Is it indeed a Wireless Printer? Most connect via USB, but that would force it to use a specific computer to assist in printing.
