Help cannot send messages since latest update

That anti virus? is it Nortons security suite? I think that is what comcast give their xfinity customers but I am not sure what everyone else gets.
Assuming is is the Norton's product go into the firewall component and explicitly allow Thunderbird unrestricted access to the internet. Norton's product have a long history of blocking new releases of mail programs because the version number changed.
Go onto the SMTP setting you have in the image and make sure each has a description entered.
Now check in the account settings by clicking the account name in the list so you select the item about Server settings for each account and make sure the selected SMTP server is what you think it is. Now there is a description that will show in the list.

    Sorry to duplicate, but the reply I got to my first question didn't help, and there didn't seem to be any follow up. So I am trying to be more specific. I can receive but not send emails. I have read the page of suggested Mozilla solutions (Cannot send messages), tried them all, to no avail. I have contacted Network Solutions. Everything checks out their end. Disabling my anti-virus software does not help. I can send messages from a cell phone. As an experiment, I downloaded Opera, and tried it. I can send messages from Opera. But I don't want to use Opera. I want to use Thunderbird. The exact error message I get when trying to send is... "The message could not be sent using SMTP server XXXXX for an unknown reason. Please verify that your SMTP server settings are correct and try again, or contact your network administrator." I'd be very grateful for help with this.

  • Thunderbird can no longer send messages since latest upgrade

    Sending a new message, or replying to old messages is not possible: Thunderbird hangs forever, and cannot be closed (not even with Windows 8.1 Task manager. There is no Thunderbird Error log written. In Safe Mode the same happens. A forced windows reboot is the only way to stop this. Anti-virus does not check outgoing mail. Using pop and yahoo, and also gmail/IMAP; the yahoo and gmail accounts (web mail) are fine.
    please suggest a solution as without Thunderbird I am helpless (there are 20 years worth of messages in the subfolders!)
    UPDATE: I reinstalled Version 30 and now the problem is gone and I can send normally. Anyone has any ideas what is going on? Why can''t I send mail using the latest version of Thunderbird?
    I am requesting a reply, please. Thunderbird is no longer workable. The problem came back and sending a message takes 5+ minutes. I've disabled add-ins (safe mode), and antivirus doesn't check outgoing messages. There are no error logs written; TB just hangs and does nothing, and then fails to send.

    Ever sice the latest update I've been receiving at least 3 duplicates of every text that gets sent to me. Anyone else experiencing this or have any ideas on how to make it stop?

    It's actually been going on since well before the update. I have friends with other phones who have the same thing happen to them. One actually has a 'pre-smartphone' phone and they get multiples all the time. The problem is with some setting within Verizons network, which apparently they don't feel is that big of a deal. Only thing I've heard is to contact Verizon and tell them and they supposedly do someting to correct it for that user, but that's about it

    I can receive messages and can send them directly from Network Solutions just unable to send now from Thunderbird. Was working fine until the newest version installed. Haven't changed any settings...

    This is a terrible customer experience for Apple users. I have been dealing with this same issue since April 2012; all used to work just fine and then suddenly -- "Cannot send message" error appears.

  • Cannot send messages after crash, the solutions offered didn't work.

    On Tuesday (april 7) there was an update to 31.6. On Thursday there was a crash. Since then cannot send messages. The solutions offered didn't work.
    I'm getting the message that the SMTP-server doesn't support the selected authentication.
    I tried the solution mentioned. But nothing helps. I configured the outgoing server on the different types and deleted the password as mentioned. After that I did the configuration with the different types of configuration again. No solution.
    There is not a web-mail possibility. So I'm stuck now.
    There is no problem with the incoming messages, they are coming in. Should this password be deleted also?

    Check with your email provider about the correct server settings, and compare that with your account settings.
    There is no point guessing or trying arbitrary combinations of settings.

    i use mail 2.1.
    i have a .mac account and have three other email accounts attached to my mail account.
    lately, i cannot send any email.
    the switchiing ports fix hasn't helped either.
    this is the error message:
    CANNOT SEND MESSAGE USING THE SERVER (null)

    From address does not match authentication.

    I was having a similar problem (don't feel like typing all the details)
    I was about to to delete my com.apple.mail.plist, when finally it hit me.
    I ran ethereal (again, I'm sorry, but learning how to use ethereal is a topic unto itself). Following the TCP stream (ie. looking at the smtp messages being sent back and forth) I came across two problems. For some reason my port number was set to 567 or something like that, when it's supposed to be 25, as I had originally set it to.
    Once I corrected the port number I started receiving an error message from the smtp server. It said the return email address could not be authenticated. (using xyz.com as an example) The correct return email address was supposed to be [email protected], but for some reason it was changed to john@xyz in the account settings.
    Anyway, to get to the point, another thing to check is that your return address has been set correctly, and if all else fails, make sure you have X11 installed and use fink to install and run ethereal. This will let you know if you are actually connecting to the server, and will show you any error messages.
    PS. I think this problem started occurring with the last update made to mail. I believe it somehow corrupted my settings. This would explain how my port number could have been changed to the default port number of .mac mail.

  • Cannot send messages with attachments

    I recently got a new 13" MacBook Pro with Snow Leopard. I setup Mail to work with our OWA Exchange Server and it works fine except for one major bug. I cannot send ANY messages that have attachments. Here's what I've tried so far to resolve the issue:
    Tried a smaller attachment - no change
    Tried a larger attachment - no change
    Tried composing a new message - no change
    Tried replying to a message - no change
    Tried forwarding a message - no change
    Tried different types of attachments (Word docs, pdfs, jpgs, etc) - no change
    Updated to the OS to 10.6.1 - no change
    What else can I try?

    Right, forgot that part. It goes away for one second (as if the message has been sent), then comes back with this error:
    Cannot send message using the server +(my smtp server settings)+. The Exchange 2007 connection to server +(our exchange server's ip address)+ failed. Select a different outgoing mail server from the list below or click Try Later to leave the message in your Outbox until it can be sent.
    Below that, I get a list of SMTP servers, but since I only use one account with Mail, its just the Exchange entry. There are three button across the bottom: Edit Message, Try Layer, and Try With Selected Server.
    If I select my Exchange server and click Try With Selected Server, it comes right back with this same error.
    If I click Try Later, it puts in the Outbox, but never sends it. I left a message in there for a day once and it eventually gave me this error again for that message.
    If I click Edit Message, and remove the attachment, I'm able to send the message.
    My guess is that Mail isn't encoding the attachments correctly, which means I'll have to wait for Apple to fix the bug.
