Help! Cannot set up Airport extreme on Netgear FS105.

Hey guys, i just got my Airport extreme. I was trying to connect it to my Netgear FS 105 modem, but keep getting this message saying that there is no DNS server. The light is amber and flashing. I tried reset button multiple times and restarted the modem as well. Didnt help at all.

I cannot answer the question without knowing how you get internet..
You should plug the Airport directly into the modem.. and put it in router mode, if it is a pure modem.. or bridge mode if it is a router.
If you plug into a switch, what is the switch plugged into.. ??
It maybe that the switch is faulty or cable is faulty.. so go back to the very simplest network configuration and work outward.. when it fails, that is the faulty or mismatched or wrongly setup device.

  • Best way to set up AirPort Extreme with NetGear CG3100D-2

    Hi All,
I Just purchased a Airport Extreme and what to use it on my current cable broadband network. But i have a few issues with doing this, due to my exsisting setup.
Here is my current set up.
NetGear CG3100D-2 which i have 2 Port forwards set up on this router (i have 2 CCTV DVR's connected via ethernet to this router, so i can remotley view DVR's).
    2 Apple TV's  ( 1 connected via ethernet and 1 wifi)
    Multiple wifi devices.
Here is what i would like to achieve on my Network.
I want to be able to remotley access my 2 CCTV DVR's and also be able to access my AEBS-USB External HDD Remotely.
I have tried so many ways of connecting AEBS but havent be able to achieve what i want from my network..
I have spent hours trying to do this so any help or information would be much appreciated.
If the solution is difficult to set up could i get some step by step direction on how to achive this if possible..
    cheers.
oh and i have access to airport utility 5.6 and i am obviously running Mac (apple household)

My gut feel is that the bottleneck is the link from your home to your ISP.  Airport will not address that issue.
I'm not familiar with AT7T U-verse.  Is that DSL or cable.  If it's DSL, be aware of the following...  The nominal data rate is 700Kbps.  Optional (extra cost) versions are available at 3Mbps and 5Mbps.  In all cases, these nomal rates are valid only if you live in a tent on the phone company's central office.  Physical distance from the C.O. will reduce the actual rates.
Nominal cable rates range from around 3Mbps to as high as 30Mbps, depending on how much you're paying for the service.  Unlike DSL, these nominal data rates do not change with distance from the provider.  However, also unlike DSL, the cable data rates will change when neighbors are using the system as the facility is shared.  (With DSL, you have your own physical wire pair to the C.O.)

  • Airport Extreme and Netgear DGN2200 Modem Router - Help

    Hi everyone,
I’m from Italy, sorry for my English. I hope I will explain my problem  well enough.
In some weeks  I gonna buy my first iMac (after years and years on Win-PCs). For Christmas my family gave me an Airport Extreme for present. This is the first Apple product that  comes  into my house (..not really an happy entrance until now).
I’m just getting mad about setting this Airport Extreme. I would want to use it as a wireless extender ;  I tried almost all possible setups searching for days on the web , but nothing. It doesn’t work.  The Apple assistance is always busy in the hours I can be at home and the Extreme still remains a well-done-elegant white brick on the desk..
    Situation:
    -     I’m working on a Windows PC now (Windows 7)
    -     I use a Netgear Modem wireless Router DGN2200 plugged via Ethernet cable to the PC
    -     I downloaded Airport utility for windows 5.6.1
    -     The  Airport Extreme is new (5th generation)
    My wish:
    -     Using the Airport Extreme in another room of my house connected wirelessly to my existing Netgear router,  as an extender of the network
    Problems that  I found:
    -     Wirelessly the base is not found by Airport utility
    -     To find the base I have to plug an Ethernet cable from the Netgear Router to a port on the Airport base, but not the first WAN port,  I have to use one of the others.
    -     When I find the base  I try setting-up it with the Bridge Mode, but then it gives errors 6753 or 10057.
    -     I tried to change settings on the Netgear  Router  or  reset them, but nothing ..
    and so on many tries.
If someone of you had  the same Netgear Modem Router (DGN2200)  and use an Airport Extreme base like an extender in bridge mode, please tell me what configuration, in the Router Modem and on the Airport base,  works fine.
Thank you very much in advance.
    Best regards.

I can only create a  “New Wireless Network” (no bridge mode) connected to Netgear Modem Router by Ethernet cable ,  in this way I would have 2 networks, one from the Netgear and another  from the Airport, but the source of wireless will be in the same room (because they will be connected together by cable).
I already provided the instructions for this in my post above. Here they are again:
Configure the AirPort to "create a wireless network" using the same wireless network name, same wireless security and same wireless password as the Netgear network....and...configure the AirPort Extreme in Bridge Mode to work correctly on the network.
If you do this, then the AirPort and Netgear devices will work together to act like one "big" network. That is because you have two routers producing the same network.
If  I bought 2 Powerline extenders, one connected close to the Netgear Router and the other one connected to power line in the other room,
could I connect  by cable the Airport Extreme to the second extender
If you cannot connect an Ethernet cable from the Netgear to the AirPort Extreme, then you might be able to use a pair of Ethernet powerline adapters to send the signal over the AC wiring in your home.
I have not found powerline products to be reliable in general when I have used them, so make sure that you understand the store's return policies in advance if you decide to try them.

  • How to set up Airport Extreme with Charter ARRIS Modem TM902A for the first time for WIRELESS.

How to set up Airport Extreme with Charter ARRIS Modem TM902A for the first time for WIRELESS.
When Charter Tech goes to your site, have them connect the modem up, but do not connect the modem to your iMAC or MacBook Pro.  What you want to do is connect the Airport Extreme to the iMac or MacBook Pro first with the Ethernet Cable. You have to do this to configure via Airport Utility to set up the Base Station Name & Base Station Password.
You will then create/configure a Wireless Network, create your Wireless Password that will be entered on each of your Devices, example, Apple Tv, your iPhone, etc., you want to allow access to your Wireless Network you are creating.
Wireless Security will be -> WPA/WPA2 personal or just WPA2
Enter the Wireless Password you want
Verify the Wireless Password (enter it again)
After it is created you will see it on the Airport Utility window with the name you created for it and to the left, will be a Dot (circle that will be yellow).
Next you then want to unplug the power to the Airport Extreme, and then take the end of the Ethernet cable you unplugged from the iMac or Lap top MacBook Pro and connect it to the back of the Modem.
Next unplug the power cord from the modem and wait about 5 minutes, then plug the power back into the Arris Modem and wait until all lights come back on the modem wait
about 5 minutes, then plug the power cord back to the Airport Extreme and you will see it the light blinking yellow.  Wait about 5 to 10 minutes, during this time Restart you IMAC or MacBook Pro, and once it is back up click on the Airport Utility and you should see on the Airport Utility screen.
For INTERNET to the left the light should be green and you should see the Airport Extreme also appear and the light to the left on the screen should also be green.  If they are, you then should be able to click on the Wireless Symbol on top of bar of the screen and click to select the Wireless Network Name you created.
If you Do Not See the light (Icon) next to INTERNET turn Green, or if you see the Internet Light Green, but the Light (Icon) next to the Airport Extreme is yellow, unplug the power again to the modem and unplug the power again to the Airport extreme and wait about 15 minutes or up to 30 minutes. Then plug the power cord back to the modem wait till all the lights light up then, plug the power cord back into the Airport Extreme and Restart your iMAC or MacBook Pro.
The Airport Extreme light should change from yellow to green. Open up the Airport Utility to see what the indicators are showing they should both be green.  Again select Wireless network you created under the Wireless Icon on the top right of the screen. Open Safari and see if you are able to Route to a web page or the apple site should appear.
WHAT TO DO IF YOUR AIRPORT EXTREME WAS PREVIOUSLY SET UP FOR USE WITH ANOTHER CARRIERS ROUTER OR MODEM.
NOTE:  If you already had your Airport Extreme connected for example, I previously had ATT Uverse and the Airport Extreme was connected to the Wireless Router Model 3801HGV, I disabled the Uverse Wireless and used the Airport Extreme for the Wireless signal in bridge mode, as the Airport extreme Signal is much stronger than the Uverse router, and I was able to obtain a Wireless signal with the Airport Extreme way much better with no signal loss which was very very frustrating with the Uverse router.
Anyhow if you had it hooked up like this, now that you will be using it with the Charter ARRIS Modem TM902A, you will need to reset the Airport Extreme to clear out the old data it has in memory, with the previous set up otherwise it will not work. Trust me I spent 6 hours trying to make it work reading all Apple Support Community questions and answers relating to this type issue/problem others have been having trying to get their set up working. I tried all the tips, and I finally decided just to see if by chance I would be able to connect with someone with Charter Tech support who might be familiar with Apple to be able to assist me and by luck I did.  He told me why it was not working and was all due the previous configuration with the ATT Uverse router was still in memory with the Airport Extreme. Finally it was 10:30 PM when I decided to call Charter Tech Support and I had been working on this since 3:00 pm pacific. I did not call them earlier as all the post I read said they never received any good help from Charter. After calling them I finished up by 11:00 PM and was able to finally connect Apple Tv, iMac, iPhones and Macbook Pro. We love our Apple Product and Happy all is connected with the new
Internet Provider Charter. I must say the speed is way way much better than it ever was with AT&T Uverse.
THIS IS WHAT YOU WILL NEED TO DO:
First you will need to unplug the Airport Extreme, then by taking the tip of a pen or paper clip end you need to push the reset button on the back of the Airport Extreme and hold it
down and at the same time plug the power cord back into the Airport Extreme count to 5 or 10 then release the reset button. Then once he light in front of the Airport Extreme stops blinking you need to plug the Ethernet cable from the Airport Extreme to your iMAC or Macbook Pro, and restart which ever one you have, then open the Airport Utility once it is back up.  If you see airport extreme pop up with the old network name or it shows and yellow triangle click on the Airport Extreme ICON it will not let you configure it but will ask if you want to get rid of it or remove and just do it.  Then Again restart your iMAC or MacBook Pro, open up Airport Utility again, and on the top left you should see under “Other Airport Base Stations” the MAC ID for the Airport Extreme.

I just got a Charter Modem. Model TM822. While I was moving, my Airport Extreme was still at my old place.
I have a Linksys WRT320N I used for the initial Charter setup.
I can get my Airport to work here, but the Internet light on the Modem flashes Yellow.
Hasn't caused any issues so far but one thing I did notice.
On the Linksys there were 3 DNS servers listed.
The Airport Extreme only lists 2 and i don't see where I could add another, only change whats already there.
I tried everything above, but light on modem still flashes yellow.
I have the technicians cell phone. Told me "that shouldn't be" and gave the same advice listed above.
I'll break down and call Charter one day, see if it's on their end. NSA tracking may need a reset LMAO.

  • How to set up Airport Extreme for 11ac and 11n?

I have just purchased the new Airport Extreme (August 2014) because Apple's website states
    Simultaneous dual-band support.
AirPort Extreme features simultaneous dual-band 802.11ac Wi‑Fi. That means it transmits at both the 2.4GHz and 5GHz frequencies at the same time. So no matter which band your wireless devices use, they’ll automatically connect to the best available band for the fastest possible performance.
I have number of Macs in my home from a new MacBook Pro with Mavericks to a Macbook Air with Snow Leopard (due to required software) and iPads.
So after setting up the new Extreme my new MacBook only accesses 11n as does my older Macs. I checked by holding down the option key while clicking the WiFi icon at the top of my Mac. Well, not so automatic then as I was expecting 11ac and 3 times faster access (as stated by Apple).
I then looked for some documentation for setting up but cannot find anything.
    Hence my question here.
How to set up Airport Extreme for 11ac and 11n simultaneously?
At present the new Extreme is no better than my previous 2 year old one.
    Thank you.
    Michael

How to set up Airport Extreme for 11ac and 11n simultaneously?
Assuming that it is operating correctly, 802.11ac and 802.11b/g/n are broadcast simultaneously by default.
That is advertising. The real information is usually found in the small and hard to read footnotes:
Based on theoretical peak speeds. Actual speeds will be lower.
AirPort Extreme is based on an IEEE 802.11ac draft specification. Performance based on comparison with Apple’s 802.11n products. Comparison assumes AirPort Extreme network with 802.11ac-enabled computer. Speed and range will be less if an 802.11a/b/g product joins the network. Accessing the wireless network requires a Wi‑Fi-enabled device. Actual speed will vary based on range, connection rate, site conditions, size of network, and other factors. Range will vary with site conditions.
Since the 802.11ac signal is being broadcast only using the 5 GHz band, some users report that they have had better results by using the option to assign a different name to the 5 GHz band, and then pointing their Mac to that specific signal or network. You may want to try that option.
But first as a test, please locate the MacBook Pro about 10-15 feet or 3-4 meters from the AirPort Extreme with clear line-of-sight between the two devices. Restart both the AirPort Extreme and the Macbook Pro and then check to see if the Mac is connected to an 802.11ac signal.
If not, please power off your other wireless devices...computers, mobile devices, etc. temporarily, and try the same test again.
    Please report on your results.

I recently transferred my internet service to another state.I have not yet moved my imac, just my pc laptop. I cannot get my airport extreme wireless router to work. The green light stays lit when everything is connected but I can't connect to the internet. Any suggestions?

I would recommend that you do the following as a minimum:
Power-down the modem, AirPort base station, and computer(s).
Power-up the modem; wait at least 10-15 minutes to allow it adequate time to initialize.
Power-up the AirPort base station; wait at least 5-10 minutes. Note: The AirPort's status light may continue to flash amber after it has intialized. That is because, there may be some additional configuration items necessary, like setting up wireless security, before the overall setup is completed to get a green status.
    Power-up your computer(s).
If the above steps do not solve the problem, start over with step 1 above, but then perform the next steps between steps 1 & 2. above.
Disconnect the AirPort base station from the Internet broadband modem.
While all of the devices are powered-down, perform a "factory default" reset on the base station. This will get it back to its "out-of-the-box" configuration and make setting it up much easier, especially if you use the "Assist me" process within the AirPort Utility. (ref: Resetting an AirPort Base Station or Time Capsule)
After the base station resets, go ahead and power it back down.
Reconnect the AirPort base station to the Internet broadband modem. For the Extreme and Time Capsule, be sure to connect the cable to the base station's WAN (circle-of-dots) port.
Continue with step 2 in the first set of steps.
In this basic configuration, the AirPort base station will broadcast an unsecured wireless network with a Network Name (SSID) of Apple Network NNNNNN. Network clients, connected to the base station either by wire or wireless, should now be able to access the Internet through the ISP's modem. Once Internet connectivity has been verified, you can use the AirPort Utility to configure the base station for wireless security and any other desired options. Please post back your results.

Does this article apply to OS X Lion and Airport Utility 6.0?
Reason: Airport Utility cannot find my Airport Extreme (4th generation) wirelessly on my Time Capsule configured network even although the firmware in both units is up to date.

I thought you were trying to Extend the network with an Express as the article mentions you pointed to...
You can't find the Airport Extreme then...
I woudl suggest doing a Factory reset....
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3728
Then you should be able to set it up just as you did when it was new....
Factory default reset (using reset button)
If the AirPort Base Station or Time Capsule isn't accessible from AirPort Utility, the Factory Default reset can be accomplished by using the reset button.
Unplug the AirPort Base Station or Time Capsule from power.
Press and hold the reset button with a pen or pencil, then plug the AirPort Base Station or Time Capsule back in while continuing to hold the button until you see the light (LED) flash rapidly. This should happen after a few seconds.
Release the button. This will factory default reset the AirPort Base Station or Time Capsule.

  • I cannot get my Airport Extreme to talk to my cable modem

I cannot get my Airport Extreme to talk to my cable modem.  Cable modem is a Cisco, new, Charter cable company.  New wires throughout.  Connected to internet currently hardwired to cable modem.  So I have internet service to the modem.

The modem needs an extended power down period in order to reset, as it is "remembering" your computer and thus will not associate with the AirPort Extreme.

  • I-book cannot find the Airport Extreme

I have an i-book, G-3, 14" screen. I just had the logic board replaced through the Apple store because the video card died. Prior to this, I had no problem logging onto the Internet via the Airport Card and my Airport Extreme.
After the repair, I took the i-book home to find that it cannot find the Airport Extreme signal, even when the i-book is one foot away from the Airport Extreme.
I played with the Airport settings for an hour and at one point, got a very weak signal showing on the tool bar. I've tried removing/reinstalling the Airport card and antenna with no results. I've even tried resetting the Airport Extreme by depressing the reset button for 10-seconds, but get no flashing red centerlight as the instructions say I should for a hard reset.
Could this problem have something to do with the new logic board? If so, what's the fix?

Hi, and <IMG src="http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c55/rondaleroi/welcome.gif" to Apple Discussions.
Does adjusting the angle of the display make a difference in the signal strength?
Sometimes the AirPort antenna can get pinched in the hinge, or even broken.
I had an AirPort card that just all of a sudden quit working. I had to buy a new one. Do you know someone you could swap with to make sure it isn't the card itself? (My husband swapped his and my cards--that's how we diagnosed the bad card here.)

cannot install a AirPort Extreme software to my Macintosh i try with a different method way to get into however i download update with this and install attempt , cannot install with it on macintosh HD because it red icon with so how i able to fix it? any1 with bright idea?

Are you just trying to connect your MacBook Pro via wireless? Go to the AirPort menu, select the name of the wireless network that you want to join.
why you think i need a AirPort Extreme Base to enable connect it?
Because you asked about installing the AirPort software. The software for the MacBook's wireless capability is built into OS X.

  • Set the Airport Extreme to not broadcast the SSID

Set the Airport Extreme to not broadcast the SSID

"Hiding" the SSID will do nothing to protect you from hackers.....and anyone else who wants to see your network, since there a numerous free utilities on the Internet that will reveal your network in seconds.
On the other hand, it might keep a few honest neighbors from seeing the name of your wireless network.
iOS devices often have trouble connecting to a "hidden" network, so you may need to display the network if your iPhone, iPad, etc have trouble connecting to the network.
    Your call on this.
Assuming that you have Lion, Mountain Lion or Mavericks on your MacBook Pro.....
Open Macintosh HD > Applications > Utilities > AirPort Utility
Click on the AirPort Extreme icon, then click Edit in the smaller window
Click the Wireless tab at the top of the next window
Click Wireless Options at the bottom of the window
Enter a check mark in the box next to Create Hidden Network
Click Save, then click Update and allow a full minute for the AirPort Extreme to restart
