HELP? Cannot Update From iOS 5.0 to 6.0

I have an iPhone 4S with an issue here that is super strange.  Last fall I downloaded the iOS 6.0 ipsw file update through iTunes and saved it to my desktop.  I am just now trying to update my iPhone which is still running iOS 5.0, and I keep getting this error message "This device isn't eligible for the requested build".
Currently I am running iTunes 11.0.2 (but not sure if that makes a difference).  Also I have Googled this error and tried all of that "host" file editing but it didn't help, so I just set the file back to the way it was.
Anyone with tips to remedy this would be greatly appreciated.  Please note I have never done any jailbreaking and I really hope I don't have to start.
Thanks!

Can you get a Wi-Fi connection on your iPhone?
I got an Internet connection on my phone, went to SETTINGS --> GENERAL --> SOFTWARE UPDATE and updated my Software wirelessly (no iTunes involved).
When I connected my phone to my Computer again and iTunes popped up, it showed that my iPhone software was up to date. Then I could restore to an old back-up.

  • Cannot Update From iOS Beta 1 to Beta 2?

Well I've got the iOS Beta 1 Software on my iPod Touch 4th Generation and I know it's the first Beta. It's great but when I go to software update, it says it's up to date on iOS 6.0 without offering me an update to Beta 2. I am positive it's the first Beta. Is there any other way of checking which Beta I have just to be sure or another way i can update without restoring? In General Settings under about I get this for the version: 6.0 (10A5316k)
I'm pretty sure that is Beta 1. So how come I cannot update?!?
    Thank You for any help.

Pls. use the confidential iOS 6 beta forums, thanks.

  • HT4623 Cannot update from iOS 6.1.3 to iOS 7...says that I cannot verify because I am not connected to the internet when I am clearly connected to the internet. I've tried from home and school.  Now what?

I am trying to update an iPad 2 to iOS 7.  It hasn't updated since iOS 6.1.3.  When I try to update it, I get a msg box that tells me I cannot verify because I am not connected to the internet.  This is not true because I AM connected to the internet here at school.  I've tried at home and it does the same thing.  What to do now?

Try this  - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.)

    1) You asked "Does she need to reconnect to that itunes/computer and if so what do we need to do to remove this folder of pics from her ipod?" Yes, you have to connect the iPod to that computer and go to the Photos pane for the iPod in iTunes and uncheck sync photos and the click on synce/apply. In the future do not check sync photos.
iOS and iPod: Syncing photos using iTunes
    2)
Create a NEW account for using these instructions. Make sure you follow the instructions. Many do not and if you do not you will not get the None option. You must use an email address that you have not used with Apple before.
Creating an iTunes Store, App Store, iBookstore, and Mac App Store account without a credit card
Then on the iPod go to
    - Settings>Messages>Send and receive and sign out your ID and sign into hers. Make sure that only her ID email address is listed.
    - Settings>FaceTime sign out of your ID and sign into hers. Make sure that under You can be reached at only her ID email address is listed
    - Settings>iCloud and sign out and sign in with hers
Contnue to use the commpn ID/account for Settings>iTunes and App stores.

    1. Restart the computer in safe mode. Certain caches maintained by the system will be rebuilt.
Safe mode is much slower to start up than normal. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
When the login screen appears, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and test. There's no need to log in while in safe mode.
Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a software RAID, you can’t start in safe mode. In that case, go to Step 2.
If there's no change after taking this step, continue.
    2. Back up all data before proceeding.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    /var/folders
Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select
Services ▹ Reveal in Finder (or just Reveal)
from the contextual menu.* A folder should open with an item named "folders" selected. Move the selected item to the Trash. You may be prompted for your administrator login password. Restart the computer and empty the Trash.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination  command-C. In the Finder, select
              Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar and paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V. You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.

  • HT4623 I cannot update to iOS 8, please help!

I cannot update to iOS 8 because i get the not enough storage error, even though i have 4.6GB free, according to usage. What can i do? Except using itunes because i'm on holiday and i do not have acces to a computer.

    StylishedTomato wrote:
I see, but how large is this update? Aren't 4GB enough? This is pretty weird
It seems to have ranged from about 4.6 to (in my case on a 5S) 5.6 gigs. As with any software download, the amount of space required to download and install the update directly on the phone is much larger than the amount the software actually takes up.

  • I am using iphone 4s ios6.1.2 ...my iphone has become too slow once i have updated from ios 5.1.1..can anyone help me to make my iphone perform batter

i am using iphone 4s ios6.1.2 ...my iphone has become too slow once i have updated from ios 5.1.1..can anyone help me to make my iphone perform batter

    Standard troubleshooting...
Try a reset by pressing the home and sleep buttons until you see the Apple logo, ignoring the slider. Takes about 5-15 secs of button holding and you won't lose any data or settings.
Remove all apps from Recently Used list...
    - From any Home Screen, double tap the home button to bring up the Recents List
    - Tap and hold any icon in this list until they wiggle
    - Press the red  to delete apps from this list.
    - Press the home button twice when done.
If still a problem restore with your backup.
If still a problem restore as new, i.e. without your backup. See how it runs with nothing synced to it.
If still a problem, it's likely a hardware issue.

From the article that your statement was posted from:
    Check for hardware issues
Try to restore your iOS device two more times while connected with a cable, computer, and network you know are good. Also, confirm your security software and settings are allowing communication between your device and update servers. If you still see the alert when you update or restore, contact Apple support.

  • Update from IOS 4.2.1 to 4.3.5

How do i update an iPhone 4 with IOS 4.2.1 to 4.3.5?  Every time i connect it to iTunes (Windows 7 laptop), 2-3mins before finishing to 2 hour download, the screen will freeze and a window will pop out saying "cannot download software, timed out".  I tried this on 5 occasions but always got the same response.
Can anyone help me find the solution to this?  Appreciate your help. Thanks.

  • Cannot update to iOS 7.0.4.  Don't have a computer.

I am attempting to update from iOS 5.1.1 to iOS 7.04.4 via settings.  I can see that the update is available and I get as far as accepting terms and conditions, seeing the upload beginning to start, but then it fails.  Error message unable to update.  The battery charge is 100% and I have 5GB storage available.
I don't have access to a PC or a Mac so am unable to attempt other suggested methods.
    Please help.

If you have an iPad 1, the max iOS is 5.1.1. For newer iPads, the current iOS is 7.0.4. The Settings>General>Software Update only appears if you have iOS 5.0 or higher currently installed.

If you are currently running an iOS lower than 5.0, connect the iPad to the computer, open iTunes. Then select the iPad under the Devices heading on the left, click on the Summary tab and then click on Check for Update.
Tip - If connected to your computer, you may need to disable your firewall and antivirus software temporarily.  Then download and install the iOS update. Be sure and backup your iPad before the iOS update. After you update an iPad (except iPad 1) to iOS 6.x, the next update can be installed via wifi (i.e., not connected to your computer).
Tip 2 - If you're updating via wifi, place your iPad close to your router to preclude getting a corrupted download.
How to Upgrade to iOS 7
The iOS 7.0 update requires around 2.5 GB of storage space, so if your iPad is almost full, you may need to clear up some space. You can check your available space in Settings -> General -> Usage.
There are two ways to upgrade to iOS 7: You can use your Wi-Fi connection, or you can connect your iPad to your PC and update through iTunes. We'll go over each method.
    To upgrade using Wi-Fi:
Note: If your iPad's battery is under 50%, you will want to plug it into your charger while performing the update.
    Go into the iPad's Settings.
Locate and tap "General" from the menu on the left.
The second option from the top is "Software Update". Tap this to move into the update settings.
Tap "Download and Install". This will start the upgrade, which will take several minutes and will reboot your iPad during the process. If the Download and Install button is grayed out, trying clearing up some space. The space required by the update is mostly temporary, so you should gain most of it back after iOS 7 is installed.
Once the update is installed, you may have to run through the initial steps of setting up your iPad again. This is to account for new features and settings.
    To upgrade using iTunes:
First, connect your iPad to your PC or Mac using the cable provided when you purchased your device. This will allow iTunes to communicate with your iPad.
You will also need the latest version of iTunes. Don't worry, you will be prompted to download the latest version when you launch iTunes. Once it installs, you may be asked to setup iCloud by logging into your iTunes account. If you have a Mac, you may be prompted on whether or not you want to enable the Find my Mac feature.
Now you are ready to begin the process:
If you upgraded iTunes earlier, go ahead and launch it. (For many, it will launch automatically when you plug in your iPad.)
Once iTunes is launched, it should automatically detect that a new version of the operating system exists and prompt you to upgrade to it. Choose Cancel. Before updating, you will want to manually sync your iPad to make sure everything is up to date.
After canceling the dialog box, iTunes should automatically sync with your iPad.
If iTunes doesn't automatically sync, you can manually do it by selecting your iPad within iTunes, clicking on the File menu and choosing Sync iPad from the list.
After your iPad has been synced to iTunes, select your iPad within iTunes. You can find it on the left side menu under Devices.
From the iPad screen, click on the Update button.
After verifying that you want to update your iPad, the process will begin. It takes a few minutes to update the operating system during which time your iPad may reboot a few times.
After updating, you may be asked a few questions when your device finally boots back up. This is to account for new settings and features.
