OK I have an MSI 865PE neo-2 mobo it works fine with an P4 2.00GHz
but as soon as I instaled a 2.66 GHz 800FSB w/HT It wont do anything fans work and all but hangs with four red led the cpu was tested in another computer and works fine . what the @$#% is the problem ? can anyone help?
    power sup specs,...450W , +3.3v   22.0A  +5V 36.0A +12V    18.0A
mem.,   two sticks of  256(512) in slots 1-3
This is realy frusterating MSI needs to do a better job with troubleshooting guide' :wall:s!

My MSI Neo2-FISR 865 board was working fine out of the box. Then a couple of days later I'm browsing online and my screen goes blank. A reboot results in a loud siren/klaxon type sound where the mobo keeps beeping and beeping (never heard a beep code like it before!)
I check all my connections, worried that the problem is my graphics card (ATI all-in-wonder 9700 pro) and still no luck.
I find these forums and read about the d-bracket and how the four LED's will light up and help you figure out your problem. I install it and find all four are lit RED, meaning there's a problem with my cpu.
I test my cpu in another system and it works JUST FINE! I test the cpu from that system on my MSI board, and it doesn't work. I try swapping my Corsair XMS on the MSI for Geil from my other system, no help.
After testing my components from the MSI system on my other system, there is nothing wrong with them. I can only conclude that since others have had the MSI board report a false problem with their CPU or whatnot, that there is something definetly wrong in the design of this board. After only a couple of days it dies on me! :(
I'm RMA'ing it back to newegg.com and getting an Intel 865PERL instead, at least Intel boards are known for their rock-solid stability. It's too bad, I really wanted to like this board. :(
Oh yeah, and clearing the CMOS didn't solve squat!

I do not know about Disk Warrior but if you have a compatible OSX on an external HDD you certainly can boot the MBP.  Use startup manager:

  • I need help in booting the microsoft operating system

i need help in booting the microsoft operating system from startup.

Which version of OS X are you running? All you need to do is to purchase a retail copy of whichever flavor of Windows you like (I prefer Windows 7 Professional to Win 8.1) and use Boot Camp to install same. Then you'll be able to boot into either Mac OS or Windows by holding down the option key.
    Boot Camp -> http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1461.
    Good luck,

  • Cant boot HELP

cant boot after i ran out of battery during update later when i recharged it i left macbook on for 12hours without moving off the boot screen (the grey apple with the circle loading thing) i tried repairing it with mac install disk but nothing. not sure what operating system i got it end of 2010

You will need to do the following:
    Drive Preparation
    1.  Boot from your OS X Installer Disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button.  When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
    2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Note the SMART status of the drive in DU's status area.  If it does not say "Verified" then the drive is failing or has failed and will need replacing.  SMART info will not be reported  on external drives. Otherwise, click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
    3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID (for Intel Macs) or APM (for PPC Macs) then click on the OK button. Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
    4. Select the volume you just created (this is the sub-entry under the drive entry) from the left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
    5. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, check the button for Zero Data and click on OK to return to the Erase window.
    6. Click on the Erase button. The format process can take up to several hours depending upon the drive size.
Steps 4-6 are optional but should be used on a drive that has never been formatted before, if the format type is not Mac OS Extended, if the partition scheme has been changed, or if a different operating system (not OS X) has been installed on the drive.
When formatting has completed quit DU and return to the installer.  Complete the OS X installation.
BTW, your profile says Mac Pro, but you have a MacBook Pro, so you should change it to reflect what you are using.

  • Hp pavilion hpe h8-1070uk - cant boot past post screen - help!!!!!!

    Hello,
    Please help me HP!
I have a hp pavilion hpe h8-1070uk and recently upgraded the boot disk to a SSD and also installed Windows 8 64 pro. The system ran very well indeed.
After a few months of problem free usage, windows update said that Windows 8.1 was ready to install and all I need do is reboot to install it.
I selected to postpone the install for 4 hours and continued worrking away - I then went to bed and when I came back to the computer 6 or 7 hours later - the Win 8.1 install process was 52% completed but had hung...
On power cycling the system, the PC halts at the post delay screen and if I press Escape as the system boots, the screen shows 'start up menu' on the lower right of the screen (the post delay text remains unchanged) and the systems just hangs...
The lights and fan are on
The keyboard num lock key is on
No disk activity is shown (HD led, etc)
There are no errors displayed on screen or beeping sounds made
I have removed all usb devices and the HD (SSD) to see if this would at least allow the machine to boot and show a missing disk\OS message - this had no effect although the post screen does show a keyboard error - on replugging the keyboard (but not the SSD HD) the system still halts at the post screen with no error shown.
If you can please advise what I can do to resolve this problem - I really need to use the computer and can not see how it could have become damaged - Please, please help!!!

SUCCESS - at least for me (after already shopping on Amazon and Ebay for replacement motherboard).
After reading MANY posts about this in various forums, a common theme was removing hardware.  I tried that, and as OP had done, at one point I removed everything including cables from MB to front panel USB ports.
What worked was plugging in the old HDD I had cloned from a couple days ago.  Yes, this fixed a booting problem at the POST phase.  And I was able duplicate the works/doesn't work circumstances repeatedly after that.
If you haven't solved your problem (it's been a month), I would try a different HDD or putting a bootable DVD or attaching a bootable USB drive (of anything).  SOMETHING bootable for a confused boot loader to find (I suspect the boot loader on your HDD got corrupted when Win8.1 didn't install completely).
My setup was a Compaq Vision CQ2723w with Win7 and an EFI boot system.  Part of the boot loader resides in NVRAM (presumably on the MB).  Things worked fine until I got done setting everything up (including booting from F9 boot menu very often) and removed the thumb drive with a bootable Win7 Install on it and rebooted.  Based on what I saw later (bcdedit /enum firmware), there are many duplicate boot manager and USB HARD DISK entries.  There is even an entry from the Acronis loader used during disk cloning ... and neither disk was plugged in at the time.  Hence my belief that boot loader stuff is stored on the MB.  (Microsoft Tech blog talked about the firmware version, but didn't mention physical location).
    Long story getting longer ...
    I suspect
    (1) BIOS searches for bootable devices.  How else can it present a newly installed boot source (and it lists HDDs by model number) in the boot menu.
    (2) the thumb drive was causing "it's" boot manager settings to be first choice in the MB firmware.  When I could get into BIOS, I would put the EFI entry for USB HARD DISK after other EFI entries in the boot order.  Whenever I booted Win7 Install from the thumb drive, it would be back on top.
    (3) when I booted without the thumb drive installed, the overall boot process was "confused" or partially corrupt somewhere (like on the 250 GB Seagate HDD).  I would see 6 entries for "Windows Boot Manager" in the F9 boot menu.
    (4) When I put in the old 500 GB Seagate HDD, F9 Boot Menu and F10 Setup worked again.  Boot Manager would come back with "no system found" and I had to manually select the 500 GB Seagate from the F9 boot menu.  Once that happened, the default choice of Boot Manager in the startup menu worked again.  Did the HDD load "it's" boot manager settings at the top of the MB firmware????
At the end, with a "working" system, I replaced the HDD with a cloned SSD (the goal at the beginning of this journey), kept the bootable thumb drive in my pocket, booted from the SDD (listed in the F9 boot menu), and repeatedly booted.  A quick peek at the boot menu showed one of the Boot Manager(s) to be the default choice.
I still have multiple Boot Managers listed in the F9 Boot Menu.  "bcdedit /enum firmware" still shows a display order with four duplicates for <bootmgr> and six of the GUID associated with USB HARD DRIVE.  BUT THE SYSTEM BOOTS!!!!
Now, I just have make sure bootable USB drives do not come within 10 feet (and I'm hanging on to the original 500 MB Seagate that "fixes" the problem when its connected.
Hope this helps you or someone/somewhere/sometime to solve their problem or get one step closer to understanding how all this booting crap really works (or doesn't).

  • W500 cant boot blank screen. help.!

After setting, the bios default graphics card to discrete. My w500 cant boot up.. No display at all and only left 2 light, charging led and the.one beside the battery both stable.. Anybody know the work around or are there any ways to reset the bios? I tried blind hitting f1, then f9 enter and f10. Nothing happen...

there is no detailed step by step. You have to reflow the ATI GPU. For methods of reflowing, i think you can look on YouTube. You would need to remove the motherboard to do this.
    http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3031/3017167411_f761dac4d6_o.jpg
this is the location of the ATI GPU without the heatsink.
Since my T500 and W500 were stolen, i dont have any machines to take a picture of the approximate heatsink location.

  • Help!  configure boot system

How to install the solaris x86 to my hard disk which windows 2k and 2003 has already exist in,and then configure boot system to startup every operate system by my choice.

Here you can find all the information you need:
    http://multiboot.solaris-x86.org/
From my point of view, I would recommend to keep the Windows installations and data on the existing hard disk and to take a second hard disk for Solaris installation. Solaris 8 (and 9?) partitioning on the Windows hard disk may result in inaccessibility of the Windows partitions.
With a second hard disk for the Solaris installation, you can install Solaris there independently from the existing Windows installations. If you use Windows NT boot.ini for choosing your operating systems, then you can integrate the choose of Solaris into the boot.ini as well. This can be done easily with the BootPart tool at http://ourworld.compuserve.com/homepages/gvollant/bootpart.htm This tool is also referenced in the document mentioned above.
In any case it is strongly recommended to make backups of your operating systems and data before begin of the Solaris installation.

Last night i added 2GB of ram to my 2006 first macbook, booted osx10.4 and it worked, ned i booted the mac holding down ALT to get to the boot menue so i could boot from CD so i could install 10.6.3 from a retail disk. (I don't know if it helps but i used a external usb cd drive and the once in the mac is broken).
It got about 10% through in the installation then it failed but i passed the part were i had to format my HDD. So obviously i couldent boot the old osx any more but when i next booted it up, if i held C to boot from cd it crashed and if i held alt to acsess the boot menue i would get a black mouse cursor i could move then a blanc screens so ic could do nothing with it. i f it helps since i have a retail osx disk, would t help if i booted of usb (btw, when i presses nothign and tried to boot it showed a grey logo with a question mark in it and it cant find a boot partition) what is the best way to fix this as i cant boot!
    plz help

Boot your Mac while holding down the Alt/Option-key until the Boot Selection screen is shown.
Choose your OSX to boot from.
Once in OSX go to System Preferences - Startup Volume and set your OSX to be the default.
Use Disk Utility in OSX to verify disk and repair permission.

  • Boot System Failed

Recently my computer has crashed, Once the laptop reset there was a message saying,
"Boot system has failed - Insert Boot Disk and press any button"
The problem is I do not know were to find a Boot disk to fix the problem, If anyone knows how to help it will be a massive help.
    Thanks

yes. I tried that before any thing. System did not respond. Then I switchedoff the system. Then rebooted holding "option" button. That led the system to internet recovery. After a while recovery process stopped and exclamation mark in a triangle appeared with a caption apple.com/support, 6003F.

  • What do i need to do to share TB and Lightning files between W7 and Ubuntu 14.04 on a dual boot system?

I recently installed Ubuntu 14.04 alongside W7. Since I'm not comfortable dropping Windows completely yet, I want my W7 Thunderbird and my Ubuntu TB to have access to the same data file holding current messages, so I don't have to get out of one to use TB on the other. I rely on Lightning and also want my reminders to be consistent from either OS. I have a separate NTFS data partition which, I understand, can be used to house the profile directory (though I've not seen that as a solution for Lightning).
In trying to set it up, I've run into questions that I can't find a good answer for -- want sources that address the problem and are recent. I'm pretty patient, and I can stumble through a lot of things (like learningn about partitions). But I'm not a programmer, and this start-stop-sort-through-dozens-of-old-incomplete-and-irrelevant-answers process is frustrating. (Nor do I lift the hood and tune my own car engine.) I also recognize that some things I want to do aren't necessarily common, so they're not at the top of anyone's "tell the world how to do this" list.
    1. My profiles directory has 6 *.default files. I assume the current one is the most recent. Do I need the older ones? How did I get them, since I've never knowingly created a new one? I'm the only user of my machine and thus the only user for TB.
    2. I saw the following before setting up the dual boot system, so it's likely not related -- but if someone who knows TB well can comment I'll appreciate it: when I view All folders, I see 58(!) folders with names nstmp-##. The contents overlap with normally-named folders, but the sets of messages are not identical. Do these indicate a problem and/or should I change something? Does this have to do with compacting or archiving, neither of which I do? Never saw the need, and never saw an article saying that they're important. I just want to use mail and reminders. And BTW I've been using TB/Lightning for years and am Very happy with them, so I want to keep using them.
    3. Is there a way to set up Lightning to hit the same data file(s) on my data partition? Or somewhere? Where are Lightning's files? I remember one source mentioned linking to "storage.sdb", but (1) I can't find the reference again, and (2) links to some of my files don't always work. Broken links aren't Mozilla's problem, but someone might know how to geet around the problem for the sake of Lightning. Also, storage.sdb and calendar* directories exist inside my *.default profile directory -- so why would I need to link anything? Are these not where calendar data is stored? If not, where?
I'd rather understand the reasons behind recommended procedures ("do A because Y is how Lightning/TB works" -- vs "do A, then B, then C...and it will/should(!) work."). But if you can point me to a clear procedure that will get me where I want to go, that will be enough.
Last, the following two URLs looked like they would help but don't -- so you don't need to point me to them again:
http://kb.mozillazine.org/Sharing_a_profile_between_Windows_and_Linux -- this is only 2 years old but:
    (1) it only says that "settings" specify file locations, without saying which settings. Stumbling around, I found "Local directories" under Server Settings. For more detail the page refers to an article that's 10 years old. Neither source says which subdirectory under *.default should be the target. The older one references ".../mail", but when I enter that value in Local Directories under Ubuntu, nothing shows up. When I went down one more level to "/Local Folders", the folders appear and the new-message counts seem(!) ok. But I also got a couple "folder missing...will adjust filters" messages. I never got those under Windows. So am I good to go, or am I missing messages?
    (2) The above page only says that Lightning is a "potential problem", with no suggestion of a solution or link to a discussion. Searching results in many hits, but I haven't found anything helpful.
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1624973 -- this looked promising, but the comments are dated 2009-2010, deal with ubuntu 10 and XP, and don't seem to address my problem -- unless I'm not savvy enough to recognize it, which is entirely possible.
    Thanks for any insights.

Lightning is a problem for you because it hooks into Thunderbird at a low level and you need a version compiled for the platform Thunderbird is running on. So you can't do the preferred solution, which is to put your whole profile in a shared folder and have both instances of Thunderbird reference the same profile. (Ditto for Enigmail). Lightning may become an integral part of Thunderbird in an upcoming release, at which point this limitation due to Lightning should disappear.
And if you can't use a shared profile, you can't set your Lightning, or your Address Book, to share a common set of files. Put another way, the linkage from Thunderbird to its address book files and calendar data is hard-coded, and not exposed where we can adjust it. :-(
The halfway house is to place your mail stores in a shared place, and use the Local Directory setting in each account's settings to connect to it. They don't need to be in the profile; what's more important in your case is that they are in a folder accessible to both operating systems.
Look in your profile; everything under Mail and ImapMail needs to be moved out to a shared folder. Note the entries in Thunderbird under Local Directory before you do this, and reconstruct those pathnames in Thunderbird, but adjusted to suit their new locations.
(You can see here that you need to make many adjustments, one per account, in each instance of Thunderbird, so it's a high-maintenance solution and this is why we don't recommend it when the alternative, moving the whole profile, is possible.)
I share address books and calendars between Thunderbirds on various computers (and my phone and tablet) by syncing to something in the cloud; Google Contacts and Google Calendar are my choices, using gContactSync and CalDav.
Having made the break myself some years ago, I'd recommend you break away from Windows. ;-)

  • I have a macbook and it is a dual boot system, I would like to be able to see the mac side of the system on a larger monitor.  I can hook to a hdmi cable and see the pc side, but not the mac side, any suggestions?

I have a macbook that I bought second hand.  The mac has a dual boot system with bootcamp on one side and snow leopard on the other.  I would like to be able to hook to a larger hdmi monitor so that in both systems I could see better since on the leopard side the computer has PS4.  I have purchased the dvi to HDMI accessory and purchased the HDMI to DVI cable, and can see fine on the bootcamp side, but nothing on the leopard side.  Could somebody help me with configuring things so that it will see both side?
Also on a minor note, I need to purchase a new battery for this item and don't know which one to purchase.  Any help would be greatly appreciated, especially with the display/monitor issue.
    Thanks Sue
ps sorry but the operating system is OS X

When you try to use the Mac side on your external monitor do you get a blank screen or do you see the aurora background?
It would help to know which one of the 9 different models of MacBook you have. To see which model you have go to the Apple in the upper left corner and select About This Mac, then click on More Info. When System Profiler comes up check the Model Identifier and post it back here.

  • Dual Core Center working in Vista but not XP on a dual boot system?

    Hi All.
    My system specs are:
Dual Boot Windows XP Pro SP2 and Windows Vista Ultimate
Temps for CPU in Vista averaging at 43 - 45 degrees in XP averaging at 38 to 42 degrees.  It never seems to go much higher than 53 on Load.
    Thermaltake Soprano tower
    MSI K9N Diamond Motherboard
    Hiper 580watt Modular PSU
    4GB OCZ Gold 6400
    AMD X2 6000+
    2 X 300gb diamond maxtor 10 HDD
    MSI Geforce 7800gt
    DVD Rom
    LG Dual Layer DVDRW+/-
I am running a dual boot system with Windows XP Pro SP2 on one partition and Windows Vista Ultimate on the other.  Both operating systems seem to be operating properly except for an odd situation with Dual Core Center.  In Windows XP Dual Core Center only indicates the Mainboard properties - No VGA, whereas on Windows Vista Ultimate Dual Core Center indicates both VGA & Motherboard properties.  I have installed MSI Nvidia drivers for the Graphics card & also tried straight Nvidia drivers for the card but it has made no difference VGA will not show up in XP.  Yet on installing Dual Core Center on the Vista partition VGA showed up immediately.  Can anyone help.
If anyone can come up with an answer to this it would be a real help.
    Many Thanks in advance.

have you try to update/install the dual core driver from amd?
