Help - cant get back to desktop

I booted my powerbook using command+s. How do I return it to the normal desktop?? Every time it turn it on it just loads up a page that looks like terminal -black with white text.
the message it displays is
etc/master.passwd: No such file or directory
-sh-2.05b#
Other than that there was no issue. I was following instruction in case you lost your SU cd's and cant remember your password. it was telling me to mount a different drive...maybe thats where the trouble is? any help would be great

Try this:
Shut down computer.
Hit Power button and immediately after chime hold down Option key.
If your OS X volume shows up select and click straight arrow.

You have Jailbroken your device. Apple does not support Jailbreaking and as such having done so has voided your warranty and forfeited any support from Apple and by extension these forums. We are not allowed to discuss Jailbroken devices in any way by the Terms of Service of the forum.
You will have to find help elsewhere. Ask the person that installed Cydia to restore the phone.

Windows on Intel Macs
There are presently several alternatives for running Windows on Intel Macs.
1. Install the Apple Boot Camp software. Purchase Windows XP w/Service Pak2, Vista, or Windows 7. Follow instructions in the Boot Camp documentation on installation of Boot Camp, creating Driver CD, and installing Windows. Boot Camp enables you to boot the computer into OS X or Windows.
2. Parallels Desktop for Mac and Windows XP, Vista Business, Vista Ultimate, or Windows 7. Parallels is software virtualization that enables running Windows concurrently with OS X.
3. VM Fusionand Windows XP, Vista Business, Vista Ultimate, or Windows 7. VM Fusion is software virtualization that enables running Windows concurrently with OS X.
4. CrossOver which enables running many Windows applications without having to install Windows. The Windows applications can run concurrently with OS X.
5. VirtualBox is a new Open Source freeware virtual machine such as VM Fusion and Parallels that was developed by Solaris. It is not as fully developed for the Mac as Parallels and VM Fusion.
Note that Parallels and VM Fusion can also run other operating systems such as Linux, Unix, OS/2, Solaris, etc. There are performance differences between dual-boot systems and virtualization. The latter tend to be a little slower (not much) and do not provide the video performance of the dual-boot system. See MacTech.com's Virtualization Benchmarking for comparisons of Boot Camp, Parallels, and VM Fusion. Boot Camp is only available with Leopard or Snow Leopard. Except for Crossover and a couple of similar alternatives like DarWine you must have a valid installer disc for Windows.
You must also have an internal optical drive for installing Windows. Windows cannot be installed from an external optical drive.

Welcome to the Apple community.
A number of people have reported similar issues recently, many appear to have found a discrepancy of some kind in their account settings and making changes to these settings or simply resetting them has resolved the matter.
Check your account details are correct, check that you are using the correct details for Location, Region and Time Zone. You may want to change these settings and then change them back to see if that helps.
You might also try logging out of and then back into your iTunes account (Settings > iTunes Store > Apple ID’s > Sign Out) and restarting your router. (Some have reported that after doing this, they need to check for rentals even though it may report that there aren’t any, after which rentals once again appear in the ‘movies’ feature)
Rentals should appear under their own heading in the ‘Movies’ feature, you might also check at Settings > iTunes Store > Check For Rentals.

Hi, I quitted Safari and press and hold the Home and Sleep buttons silmutaneously unti the Ipad turn off and on with the logo Apple appears but it has hanged on and fixed to the point. I do it again hold the Home and Sleep buttons silmutaneously and the Ipad turn off and on again with the Apple logo but it still is hanged on the same point. I have do it a few more time, it still hanged to the same point for few hours with no change (like picture):
I think my Ipad is fault now. I guess I must connect it to the computer with itune, or something. So my case is this: at the moment everytime I hold the Home and Sleep buttons the Ipad always off and reappear with the Apple logo and be hanged on (like the pic), and I need restoring my Ipad Safari bookmarks... so I guess I need using Itune or something to get back the Ipad then using Icloud or blah. Place the iOS device in Recovery Mode and then connect to your computer and restore via iTunes. The iPod will be erased.

If you restore from iCloud backup the apps will be automatically downloaded. If you restore from iTunes backup the apps and music have to be in the iTunes library since synced media like apps and music are not included in the backup of the iOS device that iTunes makes.

your going to have to put the ipod into recovery mode and restore the device. Unfortunatly you will lose all the info on the device after the restore but if you have a backup for the device in itunes you will be able to get all the info back if no backup is on itunes all info will be lost you can find the backups on in itunes under the edit>
preferences>devices and check for the backup
to put the ipod into recovery mode disconnect the ipod from the computer
power down the ipod
press and hold the home button than plug the device in and the itunes should give a message that states
itunes has detected an ipod in recovery mode and must first be restored before it can be used
than click the restore option in the summary page and issue resolved

HELP cant get it to get music, frusterated into te

ok, i got it for christmas, and i was realy looking forward to getting it going cause i have an mpc port in my car and i dri've alot, well...you get the drift, either way, i cant get it to work, i tried calling the customer support, but forgot they were closed, and now im stuck, and confused. there was no manual or n e thing on how to work the desktop items (media explorer and organizer, and i never got this toolbar thing they siad would be there) but anyway, i finaly got all of it figured out, got my musick on to thoes programs fine, and then transfered them to wat was supposed to be my zen...i took my zen, and went to go dri've, and realized..there was not music on it, so i pluged it back in, and now it wont prompt the transfer, and so i checked through the computer to see what was actualy on my zen, and it says my songs are on it and its in a playlist, but THEYRE NOT im so confused, dont know how to work the organizer, or explorer, and all i want is my music...can anyone help?

Right it seems we are not alone, i ran a search in the forum - this particular problem with MacPros appears to have been around since February 2008 but none of the posts got a reply so I guess the issue is lying dormant. I'm going to call AppleCare tonight and report it and if they don't have a solution I will be requesting a refund until it's sorted out. After my £4k G5 Quad died for hardware faults just 15 months down the line I'm particularly wary of quality control and don't want to burned twice at this price.

Cant get back to OSX

I tried to run ubuntu from a disk to try it out (no install). Now I cant boot into OSX anymore, even when i hold down the option key, Windows 7 automatically starts. How do i get back into OSX?

Have you tried booting into the "Repair partition" and Repair Disk?
Just to make it clear your using the option key start-up option the right way, make sure you press and HOLD the Option key as soon as the start up tone comes on, keep holding it until you get the boot screen.
Every computer model has their peculiarities from model year to model year so it can be helpful to put it in your profile for reference. (The year it was made or the Model Identifier in the About this Mac/More info... menu.)

Help cant get i photo to stop running

hi im typing on lab top while my mac 24 inch is going besserk beside me,earlier i was trying to get some pictures off digital scan card onto my computer,(+note the pictures were erased and reinstalled on the card as my wife erased them accidently and a guy on cruise ship re found them via his computer)..anyway them seemed to be there loading on my computer taking some time my daughter said just shift it into i photo ....theres where we are for 4 hours now slideshow of pictures from my computer keeps playing ....not ones on card and i cant get out or turn computer off or anything HELP....

I'm not entirely sure I fully understand your issue, but just hold down the power button until the iMac powers down. Then reboot. Let us know if iPhoto behaves when it comes back up.
