Help !! - Cant install OS - Newb, please be gentle...

Hey all, I've just bought my first Mac - a nice shiny grey G4..(ok its not new.. but it'll do for the moment :-))
anyway, unpacked it, plugged it in, slipped in my new OSX CD (10.4 Tiger) and tried to install the OS (The machine shipped with a 10GB "cleaned" HDD)
I'm unsure about any of the conditions of the internals - at this stage I canot even troubleshoot them ....
BUT, I usually get as far as the install section of the CD menu, but if i go to change the HDD options (ie, mark it for deletion) it freezes ....
if I let it continue without changing the HDD parameters it usually gets to the "preparing for installation" section then freezes...
If i do a custom istall, it usually freezes after deselecting the printers and languages ....
any pointers ?
I can replace the HDD (but need to know the reccomended Jumper settings... nothing I do seems to work)
I WILL Zap the PRAM on the next try
am having some extra PC100/133 RAM delivered in the next few days . . .

The RAM that you need should be as follows:
PC133 CL3 3-2-2/PC100 CL2 2-2-2 168 Pin SDRAM DIMM

Note that PC133 RAM is backwards compatible.
I believe the ECC is "error correcting" for PC machines.
With regard to the hard drives- the Seagate iV ata drives should be okay- Are they formatted, and how? If not formatted, before running set up on the install disk, go to the menu bar, pull options, and select Disk Utility. Disk utility will start up and you should find and be able to format (HFS+/Journaled).
Also, are you connecting them (Seagates) over the 10 gb drive,(as a slave) or, in replacement of (as a master)?

Make sure the end ribbon connector is plugged to the master drive, middle is for slave (second drive).
How are the jumpers set? Check this:

One more note- Please do things one at a time. First get drive recognition, second get OS installed, then try replacing RAM, etc. Don't want problems masked by other problems.

Heya! Basically when installing the software for Microphoto it stops saying that as my device hasn't been tested for use with windows it cant install for fear of corrupting my laptop! Can anyone help me overcome this because i installed it aagges ago and it let me have the option of continuing the installating, but i had 2 uninstall it and upon reinstalling it it does not give me the option to continue. It just cancels the installation. Can someone please help me as this is driving me nuts!! Y is it that technology is continuosly mucking up grrrrr!

Are you runnning Win XP SP2? If so, this is a standard warning about unsigned drivers, but it should still give you the option to "continue anyway" to complete the installation.
Also, make sure you have Windows Media Player 0, as this is needed for Windows XP (drivers) to recognize your MicroPhoto.

Your OS is adequate, but you would benefit from upgrading to 10.3.9, which is the highest your machine natively supports. Any 10.3 will do, as you can update from there through Apple for free. However, you will need the OS install on CDs, as you don't have a DVD-ROM.
2. This is the real problem. Everytime i wna install something it wont work.For example, i downloaded flashplayer installation so i can install it. When it finished dowloading to my desktop i clicked on it to install it. When i did so, a window poped up and said that there is no default application specified to open this document. And then on the botom it says choose application. And i dont know wat application im supposed to choose to instal flashplayer. This hapapens to everything i want to install like limewire and shockwave. I cant install anything! So plz help me solve this problem.
Make sure you are downloading Mac programs (i.e.) no .exe files. Make sure the programs support your OS. As pointed out, you may be lacking the installer, which should be located in your Utilities folder.

thermocouple temperature measurements from two Keithley 2001 Multimeters
and a DC voltage from HP 34420A nano Volt/Micro Ohm Meter. All three are
instruments are IEEE interfaced to a Windows 98 machine running Labview
(version 5.0 I think.) I have a couple of weeks to get the job done.
The problem is that I have never used Labview. I am an experienced C,
Fortran, BASIC programmer but this graphical system is completely new.
My situation is complicated because I am told the experienced person who
was originally going to set this up left under bad circumstances and
took many of the manuals. I would greatly appreciate any and all help I
can get.

Please help cant install iTunes 7.7

i was using the previous version and just started off an update when prompted for iTunes 7.7, but the update then failed (sadly it didnt really give any info about the failure). I have tried downlaoding and installing manualy but still no joy the installation just fails and says i need to reinstall iTunes.
However....i cant uninstall it :o I have tried uninstalling through add>remove programs but it just gets so far then seems to roll back and iTunes is still there.
I tried doing a repair with the itunes 64 setup but that didnt seem to work either.
I have since uninstalled quick time and tried to uninstall iTunes but still stuck in the same situation of it refusing to uninstall.
Please help guys 'ANY' thoughts apreciated

Okay. Let's try uninstalling the existing version by other means.
Download and install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility:
Description of the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility
Now launch Windows Installer CleanUp ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up"), find any iTunes entries in the list of programs in CleanUp, select those entries, and click “remove”.
Next, we'll manually remove any leftover iTunes program files:
(1) Open Local Disk (C:) in Computer or whichever disk programs are installed on.
(2) Open the Program Files folder.
(3) Right-click the iTunes folder and select Delete and choose Yes when asked to confirm the deletion.
Now restart the PC and try another install. Does it go through properly this time?

i download 9i and got it to install disk 1 when it tells me to switch two disk 2 i browse to where i have it and i have tried every option and it will not execute please help me i cant burn to disk no burner on laptop please i know there has to be a way

put each unzip download in Disk1, Disk2 and Disk3 respectively in the hard disk and you will see that the installation is going go until the end without any problem if you start the process with setup.exe which is going to be located in Disk1.

CANT INSTALL ITUNES 9. please help!

i keep trying to install the new iTunes and i am unable to no matter what i do.
ive downloaded the file 3 different times trying to see if itll change but doesnt. ive done some troubleshooting from apples help.
i keep getting the error message when trying to install:
"There is a plobrem with this WIndows Installer package. A program reguired for this install to complete could not be run. Contact your support personal or package vendor."

This message often relates to a problem with Apple software update. So try this first:
Go to Add remove programs and find Apple Software update. Try repairing it.
Select Change>>repair.
If that works, try installing iTunes.
Otherwise try uninstalling any instance you find of Apple Software update. That probably will not work if repair didn't.
Next try an installer cleanup.
Download and install Microsoft Installer cleanup utility, there are instructions on the page as well as the download. Note that what you download is the installer not the program – you have to run it to install the program.

Remove any instance you find of Apple software update with the cleanup utility.
Download a fresh copy of the iTunes installer and save it on your desktop.

Help Me Install Flashplayer Update Please

I'm hoping someone can help me. I am trying to download Adobe Flash Player 14 version onto my Windows 7 Laptop. I had Version 13. I have clicked to download it and have run and saved and run. I have also clicked to allow my computer to run it but all I seem to get each time is a grey box titled Adobe Flash Player Installer. There is no words or progress bar inside the box it is empty. I know from downloading Flash player before that this should not be the case. I cannot find the problem and don't understand the it's not allowing me to download. I need help. Why is this not working. Thank you.

Download the drivers, unpack them to a folder using the self-extractor that comes up.
Now right click on the Ethernet adapter in Device Manager, click onto Update Driver.
Now direct that to the folder that matches your OS. ie if you have XP then direct it to that WinXP folder that was extracted earlier

Installing help, cant install Adobe Reader/Acrobat Error 2402

Ive been using Adobe Reader for awhile now as many of you have however when i wasnt able to install the latest 1.104 update i wondered why.
Kept getting Error message 2402 Out of Memory.
So i tried deleting older versions of Reader as with much success was able to remove it from Control Panel with Microsoft FixIt, then with CCleaner program was able to remove from my Registery.
After a fresh reboot i went back to Adobe.com i tried installing ReaderX on both the latest versions of Firefox (main web browser) and Internet Explorer both not being able to finish the install due to Error 2402. I also tried a free trial of AcrobatX, same outcome as expected. I enjoy being able to view PDF files for both home use and college and without Reader it makes that difficult.
I also tried installing Version 9.5, same result
Any help is more than appriecated, im not too techie but i will try to provide any additional info i can

Help for an Apple newbie please???

Hi all, I have just acquired my first Apple computer which is an older PowerPC G3 running OS X 10.1.2
I would like to know how I go about upgrading the OS to a later version please? For example can I simply purchase a copy of OS X 10.3 or 4 and install it or do I need to go through the intermediate versions (10.2 to 10.3 etc)?
Does anyone know if these later OS are even compatible with the PowerPC G3?
Sorry for the basic questions, but as I say I am a complete novice with Apple computers and your guidance would be greatly appreciated.

you have to buy the retail full install disks, regardless whether you upgrade to 10.3. or 10.4. Please also post the exact model of G3 you have. Not all G3s are compatible with 10.3 and only a few can run 10.4. You might want to check out the system requirements:
Requirements for Mac OS X 10.3
Requirements for Mac OS X 10.4
Be aware that you cannot upgrade directly from 10.1.x to 10.4! You either have to upgrade to 10.2 or 10.3 first or you perform an Erase&Install.
Most likely you will need a firmware upgrade prior to the upgrade: Firmware Upgrades

Help for a Bluetooth Newbie please!

I have just got a Nokia 6230i (which looks like i may have alot of problems with according to your forums!).
I am trying to connect up to my PC. I have a very basic question which is, how do i know if my computer has bluetooth on it? it is Windows XP.
When i installed the PC Suite disc i got with the phone it said it said my available connections were bluetooth, serial cable and USB, which i took to meaning i had bluetooth on my computer! Am i completely wrong?
I am completely new to all this bluetooth stuff sorry. i have made my phone visible (if this is the same as 'unhiding' it.) and urned it on, but when i try to connect through the PC Suite software, it say it cannot be connected.

Yes, the other phrase is "dongle", typically what is sold are small Bluetooth adapters (dongles) that can be attached to the USB port in your PC.
There are certainly many options available. If you go to a store I would try to make sure form the sales person that the dongle supports Microsoft Windows XP Bluetooth.
Microsoft has Bluetooth sw in Windows in Windows XP, but the Service Pack needs to be 2. YOu can check you system setup easily by:
Right click on the "phone icon" in your Windows Tray (area in bottom right in your screen) Select "about PC Suite" from the list and click. Windows opens, select "system info" and you can see what Windows version you have.
If you have something like this visible:
Operating system:
Microsoft Windows XP
Build 2600
Service Pack 2
Bluetooth stack:
Microsoft Bluetooth stack
Version 5.1.2600.2180
Then it will be relatively easy to take Bluetooth into use in your PC.
Just attach the dongle to USB port and let Windows guide you through the Bluetooth dongle driver install process.
Then you will have the possibility to connect your phone and Nokia PC Suite over Bluetooth.
