Help!! Cant stay connected with Vista.

I have had Verizon DSL for a few years and never a problem. Just recently bought a new computer with Visa ( was using XP ) and my ethernet connection goes in and out. I have a Westell 327w modem. Called the Verizon help and couldnt get anything resolved. I even thought at first it was the ethernet card in the computer but exchanged it and same thing.. All the lights on the front of the modem are on (internet, dsl, wireless, etc.) except the ethernet which flashes on and off when I cant connect. Sometimes it will stay on for the whole day and sometimes off and on all day long. Have to shut off and unplug numerous times to stay connected. Have even hooked old computer back up and it works fine. Is there a patch to download for Vista? A friend said he heard of compatibility problems with Vista and DSL. Can anyone help?

#1 Use ipconfig /all on Vista. See the details at http://www.ncsu.edu/resnet/windows/ipconfig/vista.php
#2 The Default Gateway that you found with ipconfig /all go to with your web browser.
#3 You will be asked for the user name and password. Please enter in the current user name and password for the router.
b) The Default Password is in the manual/user's guide.
I am not sure, but I think the Default user name and password "admin" and "password" respectively.
#4 After logging in to it, press the print screen button on your keyboard.
Go to MS Paint. Go to Start -> All Programs -> Accessories -> Paint.
Since I do not have Vista - source of info, http://windowshelp.microsoft.com/Windows/en-US/help/f5feb1df-8dd7-4ab0-9f65-3c1c89a329ab1033.mspx
Press the CTRL and V keys at the same time.
Save the file as a JPG/JPEG (use "save as file type" as need be).
Then upload it. Use "Add Attachments" (just above "View discussion in a popup") or use http://tinypic.com/

  • HELP!!! CAN'T STAY CONNECT WITH 54GS

I recently did a clean install and installed my wireless router again.   I can't stay connected using this.  I can very rarely get online for a minute or two.  I have spent many hours on the phone with Linksys and they can't seem to figure it out.   I had no connection problems before the clean install.  Are we missing something?  When I connected this computer to the main router I had no trouble staying online.  I hope someone can help me with this.

Are you facing problem on wired as well as wireless connection??
Check the configuration once again .... if required upgrade .... download the latest firmware from linksys website .... ...after upgrade reset & reconfigure the router ...

    Hi,
Do you mean that you can connect to the Windows Vista PC in your office from other PCs? What error message do you receive when you connect to Windows Vista from your Mac?
Regarding the credentials, if your Windows Vista is a domain computer, you can use this format:
domain name\user name as the User Name. If it is just a workgroup computer, you can use this format:
Computer name of your Windows Vista\user name.
Credentials: The user name and password to be used for the remote PC you are connecting to. If no credentials are displayed, the log on screen will be displayed after clicking the remote
desktop. The user name can be entered in the following formats: user_name, domain\user_name, and

  • J6450 dropping wireless connection with Vista

    OMG!
I purchased an HP touchsmart desktop with Vista and an HPJ6450 All in one printer hoping that having all HP would solve a lot of compatibility issues.
Well that stupid printer seemed to have a mind of it's own as to when it was connected. REALLY ANNOYING!
I scoured the net looking for the answer and apparently I was not the only one to have the issue.
I think I found the answer and I'm all but 100% sure this is it.
    Vista power settings!
    Yes!
Vista apparently defaults wireless adaptors to use as little power as possible so it shuts them off whenever possible...like when you enter standby...or don't use it for awhile etc.
To prove it, I knew if I shut Vista down I would lose my connection
So I chose the "Low power setting", shut down and restarted, checked my connection and it was GOOD.
I tried it a couple times, switching it back and forth and that was it!!!
    So here's what to do:
Start menu > Control panel > Power options > Recommended settings > Change plan settings > Change advanced power settings >  Wireless adaptor settings > Power setting mode > Setting > Select "Low power saving".
Update: 24 hrs later still no connection issues. Comes out of standby with immediate connection, on reboot or restart it appears to be the last thing to connect so it might take a minute or two.
Bonus tip: I think this also stopped the stupid "Host processor error" from popping up, because I haven't seen it since I did this.

    Hi mvoltage
Do you have any appliances with motors or other mobil telephone devices setup near the iMac?
Both motor flux fields and Cordless Phone Base Stations can and will interfere with the operation of the iMac's wifi and airport signals.

  • Dual band router that ipad will stay connected with

Is there a dual band router that ipad3 will stay connected to

My son-in-law uses a Netgear model WNDR3700-100NAS Dual Band Router. I just bought one but it hasn't arrived yet. This router is compatible with the iPad: 802.11a/b/g/n, supports 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz, supports WPA2 encryption.
I have ATT UVerse, but the UVerse router range is quite low. I bought a wifi repeater, which increases the range somewhat. The output from the UVerse will be plugged in to the Netgear router.

  • Why won't my wifi stay connected with lion

I recently installed lion on my imac.  Why won't my wifi stay connected after I shut it down

This has been well discussed on another thread here: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3191630?start=2055&tstart=0
(There appear to be no moderators on these forums to make sure that new threads with the same topic don't get linked to a parent !?)
Anyway... The issues appear for many to be related to a specific Airport card type & firmware version.
I've had constant disconnect problems with my Mini since upgrading to Lion.
    My Airport card specs are:
Card Type:                              AirPort Extreme  (0x168C, 0x86)
      Firmware Version:                    Atheros 5424: 2.1.14.9
Connecting to my Time Capsule distributing on:
              PHY Mode:          802.11a
The Atheros firmware version appears to be the issue depending on certain wifi network conditions.
After some playing about today I think I've managed to force my Mini to connect on a better frequency, without having to roll back the firmware to the Snow Leopard version or mess with the Mini Airport card settings (via Terminal) by changing some settings in my router (Time Capsule).
These are the changes I made:
Airport Utility > Wireless > Wireless Options
    Set Radio Mode to 802.11 a/n - b/g instead of 802.11 a/n - b/g/n (Automatic)
Set 2.4 GHz Channel to 13 instead of Automatic
Set 5GHz Channel to 48 instead of Automatic
    My Mini now connects on:
    PHY Mode:          802.11g
    Signal / Noise:          -64 dBm / -96 dBm
    Transmit Rate:          54
    instead of previously
    PHY Mode:          802.11a
    Signal / Noise: -73 dBm / -96 dBm
    Transmit Rate: 36
This appears now to be stable (no drops in the last 4 hours). It's a low transmit rate still, but better than before.
The iMac is still connecting on
    PHY Mode:          802.11n
    Signal / Noise:          -69 dBm / -88 dBm
    Transmit Rate:          216
and all is right with the world (hopefully for the long term)

  • Ichat not staying connected with OS Lion

Hello, this week I updated my MacBook Pro to OS Lion (finally!) but now my ichat will not stay connected. It had been suggested in another chat discussion to force quit imagent within the Activity Monitor. I have done this multiple times with no luck. IChat still only stays connected for a max of 5 min! Any other suggestions? Thanks!
    Melissa

    Hi,
I would test some other situations ton see if you can "prove" it is somewhat linked to Mail or at least something the OS is doing regularly.
I would try different time settings in Mail
I would try iChat without Mail being Open.
The first may highlight it is the Check that Mail does that "upsets" the Internet.
The second may exclude the Mail App and highlight that it is something the OS is doing separate from that.
If you manage to exclude Mail as the cause then look in System Preferences > Date and Time and check if it is using a Time Server ?  (in the Date and Time Tab/Button).
Does this fit with the Time Zone you are in ?
If they appear to be OK check the Date and Time settings in your Modem or router.

  • Help - cannot stay connected: BT dun with Verizon Centro and Macbook Pro Leopard (Broadband access customer too)

Previously a Treo 770p user who enjoyed laptop freedom using Verizon's Broadband connect - never a problem.  Now ready to throw the Centro out the window, as no amount of restarting, taking battery out, scripting changes etc. etc. etc. etc. works - everything I have tried disconnects me within seconds.  Verizon of course does not support the Centro BT DUN with the Mac.  But everything worked fine wiuth the Treo - why not the Centro?  I am about ready to cancel my broadband access, or go back to the Treo - ugh.  Not even the USB cable works with the Centro/MACbook Pro - then again it did not work with the Treo either, but the BTDUN did!
    Ideas?  Fixes?
    Thanks.
    Post relates to: Centro (Verizon)

and now, when i tried to check again my network preference below the airport tab is showing a message that
"my airport does not have an IP address and cannot connect to the internet!"
then after seconds it will goes back to the first message that
"airport has the self assigned IP address etc....."
i don't know whats going on now!
airport tab is not showing green color anyway! i'ts always in yellow!
i tried turning it on and off but nothing happen! HEEELLLLPP!!!!

  • IPod Touch connection with Vista

My iPod touch is not recognized by Windows Vista. On the same computer the iPod video works well. I have the newest version of iTunes 4.7, which should have the driver included, but Vista keeps looking for the driver.
    Any suggestions?

Just wanted to add one more solution to using iTouch with 32 bit version of Windows Vista as I spent the last 72 hours trying to get my daughter's iTouch to work with a new Dell Inspiron (w/ Vista Home). I tried disabling/uninstalling and reinstalling from the Device Manager as noted in previous posts in this thread. Was almost ready to throw in the towel when I did one last search for alternate solutions and found the following instructions to reinstall the drivers, but to instead of having the system look to the c:\Windows\inf or c:\windows\system 32 folders for the drivers, the path is changed to c:\program files\common files\Apple\Apple Mobile Support\Drivers, which is apparently where Vista installs the drivers to. Once I changed the path the driver properly reflected the iTouch as a USB device, and not a digital camera. Hope this helps anyone else who is having the same issue.
    Try these steps:
    1. Log in using an ADMINISTRATIVE account
    2. Verify you have the following files usbaapl.cat, usbaapl.inf & usbaapl.sys in the following directory "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\Drivers"
    3. Single left click on START
    4. Single left click on RUN
    5. Type in " devmgmt.msc " then hit Enter (Don't type in the quotes)
    6. Look for Imaging in the Device Manager window, and click on plus sign (In Vista you may not see the "Imaging" option. Look under "Portable Devices" as an alternative)
    7. Now you should see " Apple iPod " as a device underneath Imaging (or Portable Devices)
    8. Right click on " Apple iPod " then single left click on Properties
    9. Single left click on the " Driver " tab
    10. Single left click on " Update driver "
    11. Select " Install from a list or specific location "
    12. Single left click on " Include this location in the search "
    13. Paste " C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\Drivers " (Don't type in the quotes) into the box below " Include this location in the
    search "
    14. Single left click next and keep clicking through until " Apple iPod USB Driver " is detected.
    15. Start up iTunes, and see if you iPod is detected again.
For anyone trying to copy over their music from the iTouch to a new PC running Vista, I used TouchCopy (http://www.wideanglesoftware.com/). Once I got the iTouch to be seen by iTunes you close iTunes, install TouchCopy and then start the program, it will then look for your iTouch and once you connect it it's a snap to copy the music to your iTunes library.
Hope this helps anyone with sames Vista/iTouch issues. Good Luck!

    Hi,
I'm not a security specialist but here is how I had it set up at home:
Essentially a NAT and a rule forwarding the port are needed. In this particular case I had an Oracle server running and a person requested remote access. So, for example, the source address was his external IP and the destination was the Oracle's external IP. For the NAT the source was the internal IP of the Oracle server and the interface was Outside.
Hope this points you in the right direction.

  • Help me stay connected

Please, I need help. I have been using the WRT54GS version 4 for the past year and a half. Suddenly it won't work anymore. I have done the set up numereous times and keep getting the same results. I do get a wireless connection, but the connection does not stay. I mean if you litereally watch the wireless connection ion at the bottom of the screen, you can see the wireless connect and then after a few seconds not connect. It continues to do this no matter how many times I try to reset it up. Please help. I don't understand why it has been working for so long and not anymore.

Maybe there was an auto update that changed the driver for your wireless card. Try to roll it back and see if it makes a difference.
In device manager, double click your card, select driver and revert to old driver.
Dont know the exact steps, on a vista pc now,  but that should get you close.
