Help cascading linksys voip router to linksys voip router

Hello, I'm trying to connect a Linksys RT31P2 to my existing Linksys WRTP54G to be able to be able to use the VOIP phone connections on both units.
I have set the ip address of the first router WRTP54G to 192.168.15.2 which is connected to the cable modem. The second router is set to 192.168.15.1.
I have connected the routers ethernet to ethernet. The second router appears to work as a switch, I have connected a printer and can see it, but the phone port
doesn't work. Then I plugged the ethernet cable from the first modem into the WAN port of the second router. When I plug the phone in, it connects to vonage and I get a message that my phone is plugged into the wrong port. When I did the original configuration, LAN to LAN, I followed the instructions on this site, but when it told me too change the Advance Routing from "Advance routing" to "Router", my screen did not show me that option.
I'm not sure which way they should be hooked up or configured to make this work , can anybody help? I've spent a couple days searching forums and the web and can't find anything about making the VOIP work on both routers.
Thanks

Okay, I got it. First off, you need to order the additional line you'd like to connect. As my wife pointed out at lunch, you need something to connect to. The rest wasn't too hard, set the routers to two different addresses, disable DHCP on the second router, then connect one of the ethernet ports to the WAN / internet port of the second router. Works fine. Couldn't get the phone lines to work using the LAN to LAN set up.

I'm looking for some help connecting linksys IP Cameras to my home network to monitor my property when I'm travelling.  I used to do this with linksys WAPS, but since I've discarded all my old linksys networking and standardized on airport, I can't get these things working.  I know that I have to identify my camera through the DHCP table and set up port forwarding and there is the problem.
My network consists of 4  base stations set up in a roaming network - same network name and passwords.  I need to do it this way so I don't have to switch network when I move from one side of the house to the other, go to the cabana, or my shop in the barn.  The network works pretty well since I went to a roaming set up.  Good performance, yata, yata, yata.
However, the roaming network requires the AEBS's to be set up in bridge mode, rather than sharing an ip address.  When the AEBS is set to  bridge mode, you don't see a DCHP table or have the ability to identify your IP Cam through the AEBS - and hence, no port forwarding.
I am able to identify and set up my Linksys IP Cam by locating the ip address on my FIOS router, even though, it's plugged into an AEBS.  I set it up, see the video, remove the ethernet cable from the IP Cam, restart - and I can't get to it from an AEBS.  In researching this, it appears, I should be setting up the AEBS to "share an IP Address", going to the DHCP table and identifying the camera's IP address and setting up port forwarding.  However, you don't see any of the DHCP or port forwarding options in Airport Network Utility when configuring in bridge mode.
I'm hoping I'm missing something here and that the solution isn't to set it up at the FIOS router level, but I'm beginning to think that's my only hope.  What concerns me there is that I should be able to see the IP cam on the network without port forwarding since I'm not coming from outside, and I can't even do this unless it's connected hard wire.
I'd appreciate any insight into this that anyone might have.  I've hit the wall with what I know.
    Thanks.

In a roaming network, your "main" router is the device that would require port mapping/forwarding to be configured in order to access the IP camera from the Internet. This router is also the one that would be provide the private IP address for the camera which you will want to be a static one.
So as you described your network, the IP cameras should be getting an IP address or you assigned it a static one and this is the address that you would enter in the Private IP address (or equivalent depending on the router used) field when setting up port mapping.
If you are not able to access this camera from the local network, then this should be troubleshot first.

That router cannot be used with ADSL, only Infinity, provided you have an Openreach modem.

  • Need Help with Linksys router broadband-b

I have a Linksys wireless-B broadband router for some reason it just went crazy on me. My wireless card is a wireless - G . Now when i had Verizon DSL  i  got this router and a USB  wireless adaptor from verizon. I had the usb adaptor on my wife computer and the router and modem  on my notebook for six months we had there dsl service until we moved  to a nother city. Once we  had all of our service's transfered  to the new home  we could not get verizon DSL there.
So for a nother six months we had to use  dial up and being that we run a home business dial up was just not up to the task. Well we got rid of dish network  just to get cable T.V. just to get the cable broadband service. That's when i got a wireless card for my notebook anyway  for six months the network was working  just fine with the router and my wireless card.
Until  Sept  this year just a few weeks ago the router started going crazy. Before my note book was config for windows to connect  linksys was connecting  and i would see all conection in the site survey,  and my own network  also. Until a few weeks a go  my network would not show .
So i call linksys the have me download   some up dated firmware that would not install on my notebook or my wife computer after being on the phone for hours with linksys they come to tell me that  the router is ok and working alright after all the test   and steps they took me through with the router. Linksys tells me that there is something wrong with my PCM slot  on my notebook or either  my linksys wireless card. Ok  First of all i can pick up signal  on other networks  and go on line like the Hilton  Hotel  when i go in there parking lot, Second  i can pick up othr networks and get on line that are not secured  sometimes  so this tells me that there is Nothing wrong with my PCMI slot or the wireless card.
Now i took my router across the street to a friend house and guess what he gets a signal  off the router with his notebook  but i can not and when we plug the router in the AC outlet  the internet light was flashing like crazy and my wireless card was not even in my notebook so that tells me that someone close was pulling signal off my router  but i cant.
Can someone please explain this to me  i want to get another router wireless - G this time but if there is something that can be done to get this one working like it should that would really help.
The Notebook has been checked out and config  and that works well when i hook the either net plug in from the modem  the  router was config as well but i just can't get a connected to the router when i use the wireless card.

Yes press and hold the reset button in back for 30 seconds and release.  Wait 10 seconds and power cycle the router.  Now connect to 192.168.1.1 username blank, password 'admin'.  Now try.

Please help. i just got my macbook pro yesterday and i went through all the steps to set up my internet throught a wireless routher and it says there is no ip address and the dot thing is yellow. i typed in the WEP in and everything but it still is not working

What linksys model? Updated firmware? have you tried connecting via ethernet? Generally set up the router passwords, security, etc., when connected via ethernet else you get disconnected and airport can't access it.

  • Cascade Linksys BEFW11S4 wireless router to a Linksys EZSX16W switch....

I tried to cascade a wireless BEFW11S4 router to a EZSX16W switch but I can't get it to work. When I first connect it goes online for about 1 minute then after that nothing. I loose my internet wan connection. I connected the uplink on my router to the number 1 port on the switch. My modem connection is on the wan port on the router. Plugged everything in and it goes for about 1 minute then I loose connection. Anyone have any ideas on how I can get this working....THANKS

No you don't need to change any settings on your router. The First thing which you can check when you connect the Modem to the Linksys Router and then your Computers without using the Switch are you able to go Online and check if you are getting Disconnected or not.
Modem - Router - Computer ..... and check the Internet Connection.
If your Computers are able to go online, Then you need to connect the Ethernet cable from the LAN Port 1 of the Linksys Router to the LAN Port No.1 on the Switch, Then connect your Computer to the LAN Port 2 of the Switch.  Once you are done with these connections.. Then you need Unplug the Power from Switch, Router and Modem.. Wait for 30seconds and then first plug the power to the Modem... Wait till all the lights are Solid then plug the power to the Linksys Router and then to your Switch.
Now check if you are Online from the Computer connected to the Switch.

    Hi,
I need help configuring my home network, I have created a diagram using gliffy.com to help view my current setup.
Currently all wired and wireless computers connect to the internet successfully, that's with default settings. The only thing I have changed is the SSID and Wireless password.

  • Help for basic VOIP function on 2821

    Hi,
I'm new to VOIP. Sorry for this simple question.
We have two Cisco 2821 routers, two 7960G IP phones.
Each 2821 router has PVDM2-8 DSP module, HWIC-4ESW 4 port swtiching card, IOS 12.4(22)T3.
No any Call Manager software is loaded.
Can anyone point me to a sample configuration/how-to so I can make phone call from Router A to Router B?
    Something as below:
    Phone A  <---->  Router A  <----  internal IP network  ---->  Router B  <------>  Phone B
Please note we don't have Call Manager software and we don't need fancy phone call features.
    Thank you very much!
    -Andrew

You need two analog phones.  The VOIP phones you have 7960G will not work.  They are dumm terminals.  They need something to tell them what to do.  A call agent (CUCM, CCM,) or any other call agent that can control cisco VOIP phones eg asterics.
When you do get 2 analog phones configure voip and pots dial peers
    example
Configure this on both routers with the IP pointing to each other
    dial-peer voice 10 voip
destination-pattern 5678 --No the analog will send to the other sides fxs port to ring the analog phone
session target ipv4:10.10.10.1 ------ ip address of the other router.
    dial-peer voice 11 pots
destination-pattern 234 --- the number that will ring the phone plugged here.
port 1/0 -------fxs port where your analog phone is plugged.
    Dial away.

  • Help Please :) LInksys WRVS4400N 802.1X port authentication setup

    HI all,
I am trying to configure 802.1X port authentication on my Linksys WRVS4400N. I created a test lab in order to do this, currently I am using
    1x Linksys WRVS4400N
1x Microsoft Server 2003 with IAS and Active Directory services
1x Dell Laptop (Used for testing Radius Athentication)
I Created 4 VLAN(s) to test with this LAB
    VLAN 1 Managament. Addr Range 192.168.1.0 /24. GW 192.168.1.254
    VLAN 10 Servers. Addr Range 172.16.1.0 /24. GW 172.16.1.254
    VLAN 20 IT. Addr Range 172.16.2.0 /24. GW 172.16.2.254
    VLAN 30 Design. Addr Range 172.16.3.0 /24. GW 172.16.3.254
This is how I assigned my VLAN(s) to my ports. This is found on the VLAN & Port Assignment Screen
Port 1 -> Mode: General -> Frame Type: All -> PVID 1 (Port 1 is used for VLAN 1: Management)
Port 2 -> Mode: General -> Frame Type: All -> PVID 10 (Port 2 is used for VLAN 20: Servers)
Port 3 -> Mode: Access -> Frame Type: All (Port 3 is used for RADIUS. DHCP enabled)
Port 4 -> Mode: Access -> Frame Type: All (Port 4 is used for RADIUS. DHCP enabled)
    VLAN 1: Default
    Port 1: Untagged, Port 2: Tagged, Port(s): 3, 4 & Wireless: Excluded
    VLAN 10: Servers
    Port(s): 1, 3, 4 & Wireless: Excluded. Port 2: Untagged
    VLAN 20: IT
    Port(s): 1, 2: Excluded, Port(s): 3,4 & Wireless: Untagged
    VLAN 30: Design
    Port(s): 1, 2: Excluded, Port(s): 3,4 & Wireless: Untagged
This is how my Radius is setup
    Mode: Enabled
RADIUS IP: 172.16.1.1 (IP of the WIN2K3 Server)
    UDP Port: 1812
    Secret: Password1
    Port(s) 1 & 2: Force Authorized
    Port(s) 3 & 4: Force UnAuthorized
On the Server this is what I have configured
    1. Created a domain: GLAB. Created two groups: IT LAN, Design LAN, then assigned users to those groups. IE: User1 belongs to IT LAN
    2. Created a IAS Remote Access Policy and named it IT LAN. The profile settings are listed below
    Tunnel-Medium-Type: 802
    Tunnel-PVT-Group-ID: 20
    Tunnel-Type: Virtual LAN
My goal is to test RADIUS authentication on ports 3 and 4 on the Linksys WRV . I tested everything else I made sure the VLAN's were working ok so what I did was took a Dell Laptop and joined it to my domain. I pluged the Dell Laptop into port 4 to test Radius Authentication. When I tried to log in as User1 it didn't work.
I am new to setting up 802.1X, I wanted to know if I missed a setting or I misconfigured something. I even ran wireshark on my Windows 2003 machine to see if any RADIUS data is coming from my router (172.16.1.254) and I didn't see anything
If anybody can help me out that would be great!
    Cheers
    Graham

    1. I don't think the WRVS4400N supports RADIUS assigned VLANs. I can't find anything in the manual suggesting it would. I would say you can only use the RADIUS server for authentication on a port but the VLAN must be configured before.
    2. You don't write what is exactly connected to each port on the WRVS. For instance, it is unclear whether the MS Server is connected directly to port 2 or whether it connects to another switch to which you have connected other servers as well.
    3. The VLAN configuration looks very odd to me. If I see it correctly you have:
    Port 1: General mode, PVID 1, 1U
    Port 2: General mode, PVID 10, 1T, 10U
    Port 3: Access mode, PVID ???, 20U, 30U
    Port 4: Access mode, PVID ???, 20U, 30U
I wonder why you are even able to set this up...
    a. Port 1 should be set to Access mode with PVID 1 and 1U. With access mode the port is member of a single VLAN and all traffic is untagged. That is exactly what you have set up, but with General mode.
    b. Port 2 must be connected to a server (or a managed switch). The NIC in the server must be configured for 802.1q tagged frames. On the server NIC you must configure VLAN 1 as tagged VLAN and VLAN 10 as default/native/untagged VLAN. Only then the server is able to communicate on VLAN 1 and VLAN 10.
    c. Port 3&4 are in access mode. In access mode the port can only be member of a single VLAN. What you post suggests that they are member of two VLANs. That should not even be possible to configure. If it is possible, that it is definitively incorrect. You must decide to which VLAN these ports belong to.
    4. To use RADIUS authentication on a port you must set it to "Auto". "Force UnAuthorized" sets it unauthorized, i.a.W. you disable the port completely. To traffic will go through. See the manual: "Force Unauthorized—Controlled port state is set to Force-Unauthorized (discard traffic). All connections are blocked."
    5. Did you verify that your RADIUS server is actually using port 1812? 1645 is also commonly used for radius authentication. Check the configuration on the RADIUS server or check with "netstat -a" to see if 1812 is used.
    6. Also check, whether the RADIUS traffic is sent on the management VLAN 1. The WRVS uses VLAN 1 as management VLAN and it might well be that it expects the RADIUS server to be in the management VLAN. Use the server IP address in VLAN 1 as RADIUS server IP address to check that.
    7. Did you check with wireshark the traffic on the 802.1x client machine? Does it send something out? Does it receive anything?

  • Need some help with linksys WRT54GS

Hi, I'm new to networking and am having troble connecting to the net when I add the WRT54GS. I have followed this procedure, from Linksys, but -no luck. No help from Cust. support line and no included manual.
Here's what they had me try:
Rique (22312): Please follow these instructions in configuring the router for a Cable
    connection:
    - Press the rest button of the router for 30 seconds.
    - Connect the modem to the 'Internet" port on the router.
    - Connect the computer to port no. 4 on the router.
    - restart the computer.
Then access the setup page of the router:
    1. Launch Internet Explorer.
    2. Erase everything in the address bar.
    3. Type '192.168.1.1' on the address bar, then click 'enter'.
    4. A box will appear, prompting you to enter 'username and password'.
Just leave the 'username' blank and on the 'password', type
    'admin', Then click 'enter'.
5.It should display the setup page of the router.
Under the 'setup' tab, for the 'Internet connection type', select
'Automatic Configuration or Obtain an IP automatically'.
Then change the Lan IP of the router from 192.168.1.1 to 192.168.2.1. Then after that, click on 'save settings'.
    Then do a power cycle:
    POWER CYCLE:
    1. Turn off all computers ( wired and wireless)
    2. Turn off the router (just unplugged the power chord at the back)
    3. Turn off the modem
    - Wait for one minute, then:
    4. Turn on the modem ( wait until the LED lights on the modem becomes stable)
    5. Turn on the router (wait until the power light becomes solid)
    6. Turn on the computer.
    7. Try if you can go online.[
    This hasn't worked. Any help?

I'm currently online with a DSL modem connected to Ethernet and set up for PPPoE. This connects fine until I add the linksys to the mix. Are there addional changes that I must make?
connect your dsl modem to the internet/wan port of the linksys box.
connect your mac to one of the four network ports on the linksys box.
    Goto your system preferences-->network>location-->new location
give your new location a name of your choosing such as 'Home Network' click ok
    Then click 'Apply Now'
    now goto http://192.168.1.1
login in with admin and admin
then on main setup page select PPPoE from the drop down menu and then scroll down the page and enter your isp username and password. Then save the settings.
That should do it. Once this is setup you no longer use the PPPoE client on your mac to engage the connection the router does that for you.

  • Nooblet needs help with Linksys WRT160Nv2 wired setup please

    Hello,
I have set up my Linksys WRT160N and when I check the router status in the web based setup page, Status tab, there are numerical values for Internet IP address.
So, I believe the router is connecting to the internet via my netgear modem without any issues.
The problem I am encountering is that my browsers (I have tried Explorer and Firefox) are not accessing the internet.
I have attempted to access the internet with firewall off, but still no success.
Can someone give me some advice as to what settings within Windows XP or otherwise, that I need to alter to correct this issue.
    Thank you in advance,

    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Thanks for the help guys.
I seems to have fixed it.  I uninstalled the Intel Pro Wireless software and rebooted.
Then I installed a driver 3 version old.
This did half the job, under Network connections when I 'configure' the network card, it is now showing a MAC address, before the uninstall and reboot, the MAC was all 0's using configure, but ipconfig/all was showing the right MAC address.
But, now the wireless was constantly acquiring an address, then connected, then went straight into acquiring an address again. then would not connect after a few attempts.  Before the uninstall, it showed as connected, but I wasn't able to use the connection to access the router, internet etc.
Now, to fix the constant acquiring an address, I updated the driver to the latest driver along with the Intel Pro Wireless software and now here I am happily using my wireless  connection without any hassles.
    Again, thanks for the help.

    Any ideas?

I think you could get around this by changing the subnet mask to 255.255.254.0, (maybe 255.255.0.0), but not sure if it would open Security problems for you.
With the subnet mask set to 255.255.255.0, you can only see other computers in the range where only the last number is different... if it was set to 0.0.0.0.0, then theoretically you could connect to any Computer in the world, havent tried it though!:-)
Other ways exist of one router handing out all the IPs, but that's for later.

  • Cascading Linksys Routers

    Howdy YouALL,
My first forum ever and post. I got this idea since getting the new Linksys WRT1900AC router.  I try to stay up with all the new stuff.  Now I have all this old stuff laying around; that being a EA6500AC, E3200N and a WRT54G routers. I also have this Linksys WUMC710 media connector thats being laying here in a box for a year or so.  Now my idea is hooking the old routers to the media connector and place them at one end of my house and then send a signal to the WRT1900 (now my main router) which is at the other end of my house.  That would be about 60 ft. and 2 walls.   I get my internet by whats called Line-of-site.  It is suspose to be some kind of Motorola radio signal.  Its not much, about 3-5 mb download and 1 mb up.  It's a strong signal though and the best I can get other than dial up, since I live out here in the boondocks, oops, hope thats not a bad word.
Well, to all you folks out there, does my idea have any merits ?  Can it be done ?  If so, any ideas on where to start ?  You see, I live alone with my little tail waggers and I like to watch a movie now and then,  usually Netflix or Amazon.  Seems like lately I am getting more spin on that little circle. I have the Linksys PLWK400 powerline extender kit laying in a box but can't get it set up.  The setup disc says I need Windows 7 with SP1.  Well, I have Windows 8.1 so it won't run the disc. Can't find a fix nowheres.
Well, thats enough talking for me for one day.  YouALL have a nice day !

If you plan to use the WiFi on the additonal APs, you an use the same SSID names and PWs on each radio, however channels need to be dfferent and SSID names should dffer per 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz.
